The Lord encourages us to depend on him daily. Just as he provided manna from heaven each day to the Israelites in the desert (Ex. 16), so too will he provide for us exactly what we need for the day and the hour we are living. May the Lord give us all fresh eyes to appreciate the richness of these legendary verses and its timeless application in our lives today. Recite The Lord's Prayer taking a moment to pause after each individual stanza. Allow yourself time to meditate on the separate components. Can you recognize the richness of these phrases? Your kingdom come.Your will be doneOn earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts,As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation,But deliver us from the evil one.For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matt. 6:9-13 (NKJV) Have you ever found yourself struggling to pray? We are told communing with God is the key to having a relationship with our Heavenly Father. Yet, at times, this concept of entreaty can trigger confusion or even doubt as it can appear as an intangible, one-sided conversation. Or, the recitation of memorized prayers can feel monotonous or even robotic – something we “force” ourselves to do. While many of us may wrestle with this spiritual discipline, the Lord continues to remind us, through the Word of God, of its immeasurable value and patiently prompts us through the Holy Spirit to draw closer to him through this conversation we call prayer. Prayer truly is how we communicate and grow in relationship with the Lord. In our human relationships, intimacy of any kind can only be established through proximity and shared hearts through conversation. It is the same with God. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, he taught them one of the most memorized passages in history, The Lord's Prayer. Many of us may have recited it since our youth, but have we ever really meditated on the meaning behind the words we pronounce? Sadly, this prayer has become so common, so renowned, that without intentional focus on the words recited, we miss the richness embedded in the simplicity. First, the verses of this supplication came directly from the mouth of Jesus. He, who was the forerunner of our faith; who demonstrated not only how to pray, but exemplified the Father through his very life. If Jesus and the Father are one (John 14:11), then what we say when offer this petition is from the Father himself. Additionally, there is a generational legacy in The Lord's Prayer. Believers across the entire world have been reciting this same poetic expression for over 2,000 years! When we appeal to our Heavenly Father with this specific supplication, we are not only joining with the heart of the Lord, we are unifying with millions and millions of other saints; those who have gone before us, and fellow pilgrims journeying towards Heaven, our eternal home, even now. Finally, this lyrical language addresses every component of our spiritual relationship with the Creator of the universe. First, it acknowledges the deity and omnipotence of God and ascribes the worship due his name. It also acknowledges submission to his will and kingdom, in our lives and upon the earth. A promise of divine provision for every need is offered to all who call upon his promises. As we continue on, we are allowed the opportunity to receive forgiveness for our misgivings and extend that same mercy towards others who have harmed us. Then, we recognize our need for his supernatural protection against our own sinful temptations as well as the ploys of the enemy seeking to beguile and overcome us. Finally, as we began, we end – in worship to the Alpha and Omega, he “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” (Rev. 1:8, ESV). My greater understanding and appreciation of this timeless entreaty, has impacted me so much that I literally offer up The Lord's Prayer every morning before I begin my day. Though these verses have a sense of formality, as stated earlier, prayer, in its most basic sense, is just a conversation. We are simply communicating with our Heavenly Father – thanking him for all he has done and laying before him our requests. Intersecting Faith & Life: Recite The Lord's Prayer taking a moment to pause after each individual stanza. Allow yourself time to meditate on the separate components. Can you recognize the richness of these phrases? When combined together, can you see how this single prayer offers us everything we need to walk through whatever the day brings? Prayerfully consider adding The Lord's Prayer into your daily quiet time with the Lord. In JOHN 5:31-35 we will begin to see the first three of 5 witnesses to the Fact that Jesus is God. The Disciple John will speak of Jesus' witness, the Father's witness, and also John the Baptist's witness. Even though Jesus does not need to prove He is God, He is accommodating us (mankind) because we are so unbelieving and hardhearted. He wants to give us every chance of knowing the truth so we can believe and be saved. He also does it so that there will be no excuses when we stand before Him if we have not believed and are being sent to hell. God says in 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. John 5:31 "If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. 32 "There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. 33 "You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 "Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. 35 "He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. In this section of scripture we will begin to see the first three of 5 witnesses to the Fact that Jesus is God. (NKJV) Have you trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If not, do it today. The word Witness is used 136 times in NT; John uses 77 times, verses 31-39 used 11 times Witness of Jesus 31 "If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. The Old Testament law required two or three witnesses (see Deuteronomy 17:6; 19:15) for a man to be found guilty of an offense. Jesus has much more testimony than this, but it doesn't matter since the Jewish authorities are determined not to accept it De 17:6 "Whoever is deserving of death shall be put to death on the testimony of two or three witnesses; he shall not be put to death on the testimony of one witness. De 19:15 "One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established. There is a marginal note in the NASB, which informs the reader that “true” should be understood as “admissible as legal evidence.” ‘If my testimony concerning myself,' says he, ‘is suspected by you according to the ordinary custom of men, let it go for nothing.' Now we know that what any man asserts about himself is not reckoned to be true and authentic, although in other respects he speak truth, because no man is a competent witness in his own cause. Though it would be unjust to reduce the Son of God to this rank, yet he prefers to surrender his right, that he may convince his enemies by the authority of God.” John Calvin, While the Jewish authorities seek to give the impression that they are sticklers for observing the letter of the law, actually they are not. When our Lord stands trial for His life, they employ false witnesses who give conflicting testimony, and yet no objection is raised (Matthew 26:60). The high priest illegally demands that Jesus give testimony about (against) Himself, and then condemns Him on the basis of His testimony (Matthew 26:63). These Jews seek neither justice or truth. 14 So when the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus performed, they began to say to one another, “This is certainly the Prophet who is to come into the world.” 15 Then Jesus, because he knew they were going to come and seize him by force to make him king, withdrew again up the mountainside alone (John 6:14-15). Witness of The Father 32 "There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. The word another means another one just like him (exactly Like) as in John 14:16 where Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit coming and being just like Him. When Jesus says He bears witness, it means it is a continual action according to the Greek. Mt 3:17 His baptism, 17:5, - transfiguration 27; 51-54 –crucified. All the Old Testament Witness of John - 1:19, 29, 33 "You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. John the Baptist is a very popular fellow, a man many believe to be a prophet (Matthew 11:9; 14:5; 21:26, 46). Jesus reminds the Jewish authorities of their own high regard for John, when they “sent to John” (John 5:33). Initially, I read John 1:19-28 as an interrogation of John by the Jewish authorities, one carried out with considerable suspicion. Jesus seems to say otherwise. His words in our text seem to indicate that their “sending men” to John is their own “testimony” concerning John's authority. In John 1, the Jews are really trying to “put words into John's mouth.” They want John to admit that he is Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet. John is the one insisting otherwise. If I understand Jesus (and John 1:19-28) correctly, for a short time the Jews actually wanted John to be the Messiah. This would explain our Lord's words in Matthew regarding the Jews and John: “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it” (Matthew 11:12, NIV). The Jews are literally trying to force the kingdom into existence, and for a time they try to force John to become their Messiah. In the very next chapter of John's Gospel, the Jews want to force Jesus to become their king: Late in our Lord's earthly ministry, the Jews challenge Jesus to prove His authority. Our Lord's answer, and the Jews' response, demonstrates the high regard the people have for John: 27 They came again to Jerusalem. While Jesus was walking in the temple area, the chief priests, the experts in the law and the elders came to him 28 and said, “By what authority are you doing these things? Or who gave you this authority to do these things?” 29 Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question. Answer me and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 John's baptism, was it from heaven or from men? Answer me.” 31 They discussed with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,' he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?' 32 But if we say, ‘From men—'” (they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet). 33 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things” (Mark 11:27-33; see also Matthew 11:25; Luke 20:4). 34 "Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. 35 "He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. Ps 132:17 There I will make the horn of David grow; I will prepare a lamp for My Anointed. Witness of Works Is 35:4-6 Works only Jesus could accomplish Early in John's ministry, the Jews are eager for John to be the Messiah. In our Lord's words, they “rejoiced greatly for a short time in his light” (John 5:35). But when it becomes apparent that John rejects their religious system (Matthew 3:7-10; 21:32; Mark 3:15), and worse yet, identifies with Jesus as the Messiah he promised would come (John 1:29-36), just as quickly they abandon him. They liked the light; it was the heat of His burning for Jesus that drove them away. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Have you trusted Him as your Savior? “Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” Genesis 6:1-8 NKJV Have you ever been curious about what this passage really means? “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”I Corinthians 10:13 NKJVHave you ever felt like you are the only one struggling with a particular thing like you are the only one going through what you are going through? If so, be encouraged! The truth is, you are not alone!Today's episode is meant to uplift and encourage you!Listen, no matter what you are going through, no matter what you may be struggling with, you are not alone! If you are born-again, if you are a child of God, He has promised to never leave you or forsake you! That means that even in the midst of the most trying times, in the midst of the most challenging temptation, in the heat of the battle, He is there, with you, always;walking with you through the valley, through the fire, and through the flood!it doesn't always seem so, however.Sometimes it feels like no one cares like no one sees, and the weight of the world is pressing in, but be encouraged those are just feelings and they simply aren't true! The Bible says God neither sleeps nor slumbers and that He is an ever-present help in times of trouble! The Bible says, many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them out of them all! That's awesome news! The question remains then, how do we, in the midst of the most trying times see Jesus? How do we run to Him when everything inside of us is screaming to give up and give up to that temptation?I have to be honest with you, Waiting until the moment when lust is knocking at your door is too late. We must, as my Pastor says all the time, put the Word of God in when we don't need it, so it comes out when we do!If we will build a habit of soaking ourselves in the Word every day, we will be well equipped to stand against the wiles of the enemy! No temptation that has come your way is special or unique, it's just common SIN-se and therefore it must bow to the power of the Word every time!So what do you say, fellow saints? Why not start today basking in the Word?!The Bible says, “Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”When that ol' devil comes a-knockin with this or that temptation, don't answer the door!Yes, giving in to that sin may be fun for a season, it may even bring immense pleasure for a moment, but it's just that - temporary! What do you say, you and I purpose in our hearts today not to seek the temporal things of this world and instead give ourselves wholly to the eternal things of Heaven!Until next time, remember: what you make happen for others, God will make happen for you!!In Christ, Joshua Scott Zeitz

Spiritual Foundations Stop Trying to Figure It Out “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5, NKJV) Have you ever faced a situation that seemed impossible? We all do at some point. Sometimes it just seems that a certain problem has no logical solution. It's in moments like these that we need to give up trying to figure it out. Sometimes it's best to remember that we have access to “the mind of Christ”. I did not make that up, the Apostle Paul says so in the New Testament. So if we have access to “the mind of Christ”, that means we have access to the vast storehouse of knowledge of God himself. And trust me, He knows the answer to your problem. How do we access this source of wisdom and power? We have to do the most counterintuitive thing: turn off the logic machine, stop researching our problem on Google, stop overanalyzing the problem, and stop looking for answers in the natural realm. It's time to tap into the supernatural. Stop leaning on our own understanding, and instead, choose to trust God. None of the problems we face are a surprise to God, nor are they a challenge to Him. Your mind is a powerful thing. But sometimes, your mind will try to distract you, so you don't even notice that God is speaking to your heart all the time. Your mind, not your heart, is the source of fear, doubt, and terror. These emotions can block the signal God is broadcasting to your heart. That's why it says in the book of Proverbs we should trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. And if you can simply “let it go”, stop thinking about the problem and the solutions so much, and just listen for what God has to say, you will find faith rising up. You'll start to feel hope, even in impossible situations. So today, no matter how dark things may look to you now, choose to lean on God. Trust that He has a good future in store for you. Trust that He has poured out grace and favor on your life. Trust Him, because in the final analysis, He's the only one you can totally trust, every time. Join me in a prayer like this: “Daddy, I'm making the choice to lean on you. Not on my own understanding. I know that you are working all things out for my good.
