                And he talks about, in those verses 22 and 23, really how there are vessels of mercy. And who are the vessels of mercy? They consist of the Jews and the Gentiles. Some of the Jews that have chosen Christ and the Gentiles that have trusted Christ. Anyway, Paul concludes that his words of promise were not just to the fleshly descendants of Abraham, as the Jews would have it, right? Remember what Jesus said in chapter eight? He said, If you were of Abraham's children, you would do what? You would do the deeds of your father, but you were of the what? Your father is the devil, and you do his deeds, and you're a liar and a murderer from the beginning.

But what Paul is doing is actually presenting the gospel of the God that was always in the Bible. He has 25 Old Testament quotes. And he talks about that even way back in Abraham's day, that the majority of the Jews had rejected Jesus as their Messiah.

CHAPTERS 9–11'S RELATIONSHIP TO CHAPTERS 1–8 There have been two ways of understanding this literary unit's relationship to chapters 1–8. It is a totally separate topic, a theological parenthesis There is a drastic contrast and lack of logical connection between 8:39 and 9:1. It is directly related to the historical tension in the church at Rome between believing Jews and believing Gentiles. It was possibly related to the growing Gentile leadership of the Church. There was misunderstanding about Paul's preaching concerning Israel (and the Law) and his apostleship to the Gentiles (offer of free grace), therefore, he deals with this topic in this section. But I believe that: It is the climax and logical conclusion of Paul's presentation of the gospel. Paul concludes chapter 8 with the promise of “no separation from the love of God.” What about the unbelief of the covenant people? Romans 9–11 answers the paradox of the gospel concerning Israel's unbelief! Paul has been addressing this very issue all through the letter (cf. 1:3, 16; 3:21, 31 and 4:1ff). Paul claims that God is true to His Word. What about His OT word to Israel? Are all those promises null and void?[1]  Romans 9–11 forms a literary unit. It must be interpreted together as a whole. However, there are at least three major subject divisions. 9:1–29 (focusing on God's sovereignty) 9:30–10:21 (focusing on human responsibility) 11:1–32 (God's inclusive, eternal, redemptive purpose)  This section is as much a cry from the heart as a presentation from the mind.  Its passion reminds one of God's heart breaking over rebellious Israel in Hosea 11:1–4, 8–9. In many ways the pain and goodness of the Law in chapter 7 are paralleled in chapters 9–10. In both cases Paul's heart was breaking over the irony of a law from God that brought death instead of life! This text, like Eph. 1:3–14, deals with the eternal purposes of God for the redemption of humanity. At first it seems to describe God choosing some individuals and rejecting other individuals (supralapsarian Calvinism), however, I think the focus is not on individuals, but on God's eternal plan of redemption (cf. Gen. 3:15; Acts 2:23; 3:18; 4:28; and 13:29). The Jerome Biblical Commentary, vol. 2, “The New Testament,” edited by Joseph A. Fitzmyer and Raymond E. Brown, says: “It is important to realize from the outset that Paul's perspective is corporate; he is not discussing the responsibility of individuals. If he seems to bring up the question of divine predestination, this has nothing to do with the predestination of individuals to glory” (p. 318)[1] Related Insights to Chapter 9 What a drastic change of attitude occurs between chapter 8 and chapter 9. This literary unit (9–11) deals with (1) the basis of salvation, (2) the electing purpose of God, and (3) the faithlessness of unbelieving Israel versus the faithfulness of YHWH! Chapter 9 is one of the strongest NT passages on God's sovereignty (i.e. the other is Eph. 1:3–14) while chapter 10 states human free will clearly and repeatedly (cf. “everyone” v. 4; “whosoever” vv. 11, 13; “all” v. 12 {twice}). Paul never tries to reconcile this theological tension. They are both true! Most Bible doctrines are presented in paradoxical or dialectical pairs. Most historically developed theological systems are logical, but they proof-text only one aspect of biblical truth. Both Augustinianism and Calvinism versus semi—Peligianism and Arminianism have elements of truth and error. Biblical tension between doctrines is preferable to a proof-texted, dogmatic, rational, theological system that forces the Bible onto a preconceived interpretive grid! 9:30–33 is a summary of chapter 9 and the theme of chapter 10.[1]

One of the more pivotal chapters. The people of God have moved to kadesh barnea The Lord spoke to Moses saying send men to spy out cannan Deut 1:19 Go up take possession and do not fear nor be afraid, but the people want to send in spies. Moses said let's go take it but they want to check it out first Now in numbers 13 this is what is happening V8 God changes The name from God saves to Yahweh saves so he is now Joshua. V17 go see what the land is and what the people and land is like, warriors or fortified cities, or camps and weak people Go and spy out from the bottom to the top Cut cluster of grapes, need a pole to carry and Eschol means cluster George Whitfield with out amplification could preach and Benjamin Franklin figured out 24000 people could hear him when he preached: Everything that is needed to live here it is flowing with milk and honey and God is right.  This is the report but However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there. - Numbers 13:28 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb. The Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country. And the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan." - Numbers 13:29 All these people were Canaanite people and were descendants of Noah. God said he would punish them but was waiting on their sin to be full grown and He is going to use the Israelites to judge them 30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it."31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are." - Numbers 13:30-31 They saying this land devours its inhabitants means they are always at war and there are giants in the land. They say these are like the Nephilim. Josh believes these are the great and mighty people of Seth.  They believe the Nephilim survived the flood and we cannot win against them. Ch 14 The people wept because the went through the wilderness and now are at the promised land and it is over since we cannot go in and do what God says to do.  They say we no longer trust God anymore Moses and Aaron fall on their face and worship God since they reject God and their leadership   Joshua and Caleb tear their clothes and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, "The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. - Numbers 14:7 The battle is between faith and fear.  Then all the congregation says to stone them with stones now But the glory of the Lord appeared int the tent 11 And the LORD said to Moses, "How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them? 12 I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they." - Numbers 14:11-12         In spite of God had done they still don't believe.. God says He will disinherit them, destroy them and make a nation of Moses       We cannot be paralyzed and live in fear of the obstacles that are in the way of God's plans How many times do we have to see in Scripture and our lives God doing his will in spite of the obstacles and yet we still don't believe We must believe no matter what.  Remember what God says to Joshua after Moses dies and He says be strong and courageous and do my will and you will have success God had proved His supernatural power to the Israelites many times since they left Egypt. How easily we forget when we focus on the wrong things. "The will of God will never lead us where the grace of God can't provide for us or the power of God protect us. If our daily prayer is, 'Thy will be done,' and if we walk in obedience to God's will, then what is there to complain about? A complaining spirit is evidence of an ungrateful heart and an unsurrendered will. By our grumbling, we're daring to say that we know more than God does about what's best for His people!" (Warren Wiersbe) They allowed their fear to steal their faith and trust in God. Instead of trusting they grumbled. They wanted to return to Egypt, where they were slaves. Their old life is what they knew, but it is what God freed them from, now they keep wanting to return.             Why do people return to their old life? What causes them to do this? Focusing on circumstances and relying on their own ability, instead of focusing and relying on God and trusting Him.       They keep looking back instead of pressing on forward. Lot's wife looked back longing for her old life in Sodom, what happened to her?         Philippians 3:12-17 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.  13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind. 17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. Proverbs 26:11, As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness. Instead of pressing on forward with the LORD, they kept wanting to return to their slavery, how foolish. Do the best to come up with the best we can conceive of God's greatness and then realize that it's infinitely greater than all we can ask or believe.. ATTEMPT great things for God and expect great results. God doesn't want our ability but our availability God was teaching the Israelites a basic lesson of the life of faith, namely, that the real power in the lives of God's people is God's power. As we trust and obey God, He releases His power through us. We are never adequate in ourselves, but God empowers the obedient and trusting. Jesus taught His disciples the same lesson when He multiplied the loaves and fishes— twice. 2Co 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, Power of intercession prayer 13 But Moses said to the LORD, "Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for you brought up this people in your might from among them, 14 and they will tell the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you, O LORD, are in the midst of this people. For you, O LORD, are seen face to face, and your cloud stands over them and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. - Numbers 14:13-14                The failure of the Israelites grew out of unbelief (cf. Heb. 3:19). The majority failed to believe that God would give them the land of their enemies as He had promised.            "Like Pharaoh, they were hardening their hearts and ignoring God's clear command. Moses Intercedes              In verses 13-19 Moses intercedes again for the people. Similar to the last lesson, Moses appeals to the LORD's character and reputation. He repeated God's words back to Him-praying scripture. Not important that his name is great but God's glory is important Plead for God's grace Our prayers matter         "Here is a whole nation rescued from ruin by the effectual fervent prayer of one righteous man [cf. James 5:16]."            V17 Let your power be great This rebellion was a test for Moses, similar to the test that Abraham faced when God told him to sacrifice Isaac (Gen. 22) If He had actually done what He threatened to do, God could still have fulfilled His promises to Abraham, by destroying and dispossessing all the other living Israelites, and by sparing only Moses and his descendants. However, God could not have fulfilled the prophetic promises that He had given through Jacob (Gen. 49)—had He done so. There would have to be descendants of Judah, from whom a great ruler would come (Gen. 49:10), as well as some future for the other tribes.             Perhaps God meant that He would completely destroy that older generation of Israelites immediately, wiping them out in one blow, instead of gradually (cf. Exod. 32:10). Our sins can have irreversible consequences in our lives even though they are forgiven 20 Then the LORD said, "I have pardoned, according to your word.21 But truly, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD, 22 none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice, 23 shall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it. - Numbers 14:20-23 Children will inherit and will not be prey All but Joshua and Caleb will die in the desert and will not enter into His rest Leadership die immediately because they have the greater responsibility       This oath was fulfilled partially when Israel entered the Promised Land (cf. Josh. 2:9- 11), but it will be fulfilled completely when God consummates His dealings with Israel in the future.              The failure of the Israelites would not frustrate God's purpose to manifest His glory throughout the earth, through the seed of Abraham. Even though the present generation would die in the wilderness, Caleb (and Joshua, not mentioned here in v. 24 but in v. 30) would enter the Promised Land.          Though some take the number ten as a round number, the text does record ten times the Israelites tested God (v. 22) by complaining: At the Red Sea (Exod. 14:11-12) At Marah (Exod. 15:23) In the wilderness of Sin (Exod. 16:2) In the wilderness of Sin (Exod. 16:20) In the wilderness of Sin (Exod. 16:27) At Rephidim (Exod. 17:1-2) At Horeb (Exod. 32) At Taberah (Num. 11:1-3) At Kibroth-hattaavah (Num. 11:4-34) At Kadesh (Num. 14:1-3) "… this passage intends to show that the people failed to inherit the Promised Land and hence died in the wilderness without inheriting the blessing, not so much for a specific act of disobedience or for fear of the battles that lay ahead, but rather for the simple fact of their unbelief. They failed to trust in God."                   Next the people repent, now we will go. It is too late at this point.  Is this not scary to us.  The Lord has every right to say no.  The Lord does not have to save any of us.  It is a privilege not a right. The lesson is don't sin, live in faith and trust Him Two things, don't presume on Gods grace Don't try to do what God only can do They were only 3 days away. They could have been on their way to conquer the land, but they refused. This section of text teaches us important lessons about inadequacy and adequacy. The 10 spies, who did not want the Israelites to enter the land, felt inadequate (cf. John 15:5). In this, they were being realistic. However, they should have compensated for their feelings of personal inadequacy, by reminding themselves of God's complete adequacy (cf. 2 Cor. 12:9; Luke 1:37; Matt. 19:26; Phil. 4:13). 1Sailhamer, p. 388.            God was teaching the Israelites a basic lesson of the life of faith, namely, that the real power in the lives of God's people is God's power. Joshua 14 Josh's one of his favorite scriptures Just whipped everyone and now Joshua says it is time to conquer the land, won the major battles.  Joshua and Caleb are 45 years older than everyone else.  Took five years to get to this place. Caleb says give me the mountains and the giants and I will show you what I SAID 45 years ago about GOD is true and He will win the battle The old name was for the leaders of these people and now it is the mountains of God 6 Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. 8 But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the LORD my God. 9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.' 10 And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. 11 I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. 12 So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the LORD said." 13 Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.14 Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. 15 Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba. (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim.) And the land had rest from war. - Joshua 14:6-15

              You know, it's hard sometimes in the midst of trouble. It's hard in the midst of trials when we're suffering. Like I said, sometimes we just say, is this ever going to end? Is this ever going to stop? Is it ever going to get any better? Well, the good news is, yes, it is, and it's going to be worth it all if we know Jesus. You know, that's the bottom line is if we know Jesus, it's going to be okay.

                God does all these things it draws us closer to God i heard somebody say this years ago if we were as close to God all the time as we were when we went through trouble we'd be in good shape but when we when we go through trouble what happens it tends to draw us closer to God right some people that have never ever wanted anything to do with God all of a sudden one day when they have trouble in their life what happens All of a sudden, they want to know God, right? Or something happens in a family, or something happens to them, and you never know.

                We'll kind of finish up today he says likewise the spirit also helps us in our weaknesses for we do not know what we should pray for as we ought but the spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now he who searches the heart knows what the mind of Christ is because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.                 The same God that says you cannot be saved on your own, but you need to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. That I did it all when I was on the cross. I paid for your sins. I died and was buried and rose again the third day that you might have eternal life. That same God that gives salvation as a free gift if we'll just call on him and ask for him to give it to us.             He came to give us abundant life, joy, and set us free. And these people that we minister to are not free. Our desire is to show them whatever their background, no matter what they've done, to see how much God loves them. We seek to help them receive forgiveness and freedom from their sin in Jesus Christ.

            Because the creation itself will be delivered from the bondage of corruption. into the glorious liberty of the children of God. Just as we have been freed from the penalty of sin, guess what's going to happen? The creation is going to be freed from that penalty of sin too that we brought on it. And all the decay and all the things that happen now. And we look at all of that, we think about that, that the co-creation is groaning and groaning. We know that it groans and labors with birth pains until now. saturday

            He said that when we trust Christ that it ultimately leads to glory That's what Jesus says here through Paul as he writes the book of Romans. He says, if indeed we suffer that we also may be glorified together. Well, next week I want to talk about, get into verse 18. That was all the rest of verse 17. And I really want to talk about verse 18. We're going to talk a little bit more about glory next week. The glory to come. And then we'll try to finish up this next section because... You know, we've got to remember that this world is not our home if we're true believers. If we know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we're just passing through, the Bible says. This world is not our home. And one day when we get to heaven, Paul's going to say in the next verse that the suffering in this world is not worthy to be compared with the glory which we'll have in heaven, right? Just put it this way, as the old song says, it'll be worth it all when we see Jesus.  

            One of the things that was said was, why should we expect it to be any different for us? It will not be so. So when all the scripture teaches that our inheritance is in heaven and not on earth, why should we spend so much effort trying to amass our fortunes here? Or why should we expect to live our lives to proceed, expect our lives to proceed along a gentle, easy path when others have gained heaven only by sail through bloody seas

            That the suffering of this world is what Romans 8, 18 says is not worthy to be compared with the glory that we're going to have in heaven. That we suffer, but that suffering is something that makes us more like Christ. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             Because God didn't save us to sit and soak, but he saved us to live for him, right? And to do his will. Otherwise, when we got saved, you know what he would have done? He would have zapped us and took us up to heaven. but he left us here for a reason, right? Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? But he says he didn't give us the spirit of fear those that know Christ we don't have to be afraid of us on the other side right paul said to live as Christ and to die is gain in other words if we know Christ that it's good to be here because we're serving the Lord. But he says, if I die, it's better because we go straight to be with the Lord. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? He says we didn't become Christians to be put again in a spirit of fear. That 2 Timothy 1.7 talks about that. He hadn't given us a spirit of fear, but a power and might and a sound mind. 1st John 4:18 says there's no fear in love but perfect love cast out fear because fear involves torment but he who fears has not been made perfect in love in other words we don't have to be afraid we don't have to worry we talked about this last week that the worst that can happen to us on earth is the worst it will ever be but once we pass out of this world it's gonna be better than we can ever imagine. Basically what God spoke to me that day (through the Word), and he says, Marty, You step out in the water, you step out and hire this guy, and then I'll take care of the finances. I often pray stuff like that, Lord, don't let me get out of your will. Keep me in the center of your will, right? We are led by the Spirit of God, and when we live according to His will, and we let Him lead us, then... We know that we're the children of God, right? That's one of the ways we know that we're a child of God is because we have the Spirit speaking to us and He leads us and He guides us. That word sanctification means to be set apart. It means to become more and more like God. In other words, when we trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, before we were saved, Now, I know all of us didn't get down the road, but we look, you know, you look at people and how bad and how sinful some people are, right? But by the grace of God, that could have been any of us because any of us are capable of that.             But you could also take the reverse and say, imagine the worst thing that could ever happen here on earth to you and multiply it by infinity, and that's how bad hell's going to be.             But all debts were canceled when you got adopted. If you were a criminal all charges were dropped. You could not legally be put to death by your new father. Did you know what? That the Roman father, he had the right to do anything he wanted to with his family. He could kill his wife. He could kill his kids. He could do anything he wanted to. He could kill his kids. But this adopted kid, he could not kill him. He could not kill him. And they could not be disinherited. He could disinherit his real family, but he couldn't disinherit the one that was adopted. So once they were adopted, they permanently, officially, and permanently became the heir.             Those in the nursing home facilities are locked up in bodies that do not work and a wheelchair and a bed. We minister to children and youth who are locked up because of behavioral problems. Some have told us we want to have a real family because their parents have lost or given up custody of them. Other kids are locked up because they've committed crimes. We also minister to those locked up at the jails and the prisons, to those locked up in addictions to drugs, alcohol, depression, and suicidal thoughts, to those locked up in a variety of other things that keep them from becoming who Jesus wants them to be.             He came to give us abundant life, joy, and set us free. And these people that we minister to are not free. Our desire is to show them whatever their background, no matter what they've done, to see how much God loves them. We seek to help them receive forgiveness and freedom from their sin in Jesus Christ.             True freedom is not having to do stuff but getting to live for God. What was the old singer, Janis Joplin, said freedom was nothing, just another word for nothing left to lose, right? But here's the bottom line. When you live for Jesus Christ, you want to please God. and that comes through the power of the Holy Spirit

            When you look at people What you have to understand is we see the full spectrum of people that look like they don't ever really do anything that looks like it's bad, right? You see some people, if you really looked at their life, you'd have a really hard time finding anything that they do wrong. But they're still headed to hell because they've never asked God to forgive them and save them. That's the bad news because we've all sinned at least once in our life. That's why we need to ask God to forgive us and save us. It's not the doing good or doing bad that condemns us. The ultimate sin is not trusting in Jesus Christ.

            And so the moment we trust Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us. He gives us the power to live the holy life. And we are here literally to please him. Romans chapter 12, what does he say over there? Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable. And that word acceptable means well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service, right? so that you may know that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

            The moment we trusted Jesus Christ, what happened? We had a spiritual resurrection. In that what? Romans 6, he says, you have died with Christ, you have been buried, you've been raised to walk in newness of life. That is what baptism pictures, right? What did Jesus do? He died, he was buried, and he rose again, right? So if we've trusted Christ, we have died to sin, we have buried, we have risen again to walk in newness of life. We are new creations and now we live for Jesus.

            Titus 2.14 says, God has purified for himself a people for his own possession. And he says, who are defined as zealous for good works. In other words, we have a want to, a desire, right? Jeremiah 31 verse 33 talks about it. This is my covenant I'll make with the house of Israel. I'll put my law within them and on their heart. I'll write it and I'll be their God and they will be their people.

            And so unfortunately, the mind's either set on the flesh or it's set on the spirit. And the only way you can have a renewed mind, the only way you can have a mind that thinks right things and does right things and says right things... is if you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, right? It's a whole different mindset that we have as Colossians says, set your mind on things above, not things below.

            But to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Life. What does that mean? It means we're alive to God. We've been made alive. We now have God's spirit living in us. We are alive now. And when God prompts us, we can now sing praises and hymns and we can sing. Produce the fruit of the Spirit because we're alive. We're alive to God without fear.

            the law may be fulfilled in us is because in 2 Corinthians 5.17 it says, If any man, that means man or woman, mankind, anybody, man, woman, boy or girl, has... trusted in jesus christ we are a new creation the old things are passed away what behold all things are new right and so we're new creations and that's the reason we're able to walk in newness of life right And that's what he talks about in Romans 6. He says you've died with Christ, you've been buried, and you've been raised to walk in the newness of Christ.

            What does that mean? It was weak through the flesh. In other words, we on our own cannot get to heaven because our flesh is weak, right? I mean, even a little baby. Sins, right? We always like to think of those little babies as sweet and innocent. But what do you do? You tell them not to stick their finger in the light socket or touch something that's hot or don't take that from somebody. And what do they do? They look at you and they dare you and they go, I'm going to get it. And they look at you to see what you're going to do, right? That's sin.             And so at that point, the moment we believe in Him, The Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us and we belong to Jesus Christ. And there is therefore now no condemnation. And the verse doesn't say no mistakes, no failures, nor even no sins. Because you know what, as Christians we do fail, we do fall, we do mess up. Abraham lied, David committed adultery, Peter tried to kill a man. We know Christians aren't perfect, right? We are forgiven. That is the good news. Because guess what? The inspiration of Scripture. It says that no man wrote Scripture on his own, but it was God breathed. It was inspired by the Holy Spirit, right? The Holy Spirit inspired men to write the Word of God. We talked about His salvation. He resurrects. Romans chapter 8 verse 11 talks about that verse. He says, But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. You know, one day the Holy Spirit is going to resurrect us, right? It says in Romans 1.4 that Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power from the Holy Spirit because he had the spirit of power. I also put Jesus... Mary's womb and Matthew chapter 1 verse 20 Joseph is thinking about Mary being pregnant and it says while he thought about these sayings behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying Joseph son of David do not be afraid to take to you marry your wife for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit and That Jesus was deposited in the womb of Mary by the Holy Spirit, right? He has attributes. He's holy. To lie to him is to lie to God. He's the spirit of holiness. He's omniscient. Listen, the God who created me and you and everybody else and everything else, He wrote down in a book the things He wanted us to know. This is His love letter to us and how to get to heaven and how to trust Him. And he says, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. He didn't say do this, do that, and the other. He said believe. That's why we got a chapter in Hebrews that the whole chapter is about faith. By faith, by faith, by faith. What is faith? Taking God at His word, believing and trusting in him, right? God, I believe that you sent your Son. I want to trust in Him. And he says, for what I am doing, I do not understand. That's the proof of it. For what I will to do, that I do not practice. But what I hate, that I do.             And he says, For I know that in me, that is in my flesh, nothing good dwells. Right? There's nothing good in my flesh. He says, this old body, it has these desires.                 Sin can even use the law of God and pervert it and twist it so that we end up in a bad place. Men are so evil that instead of realizing the holy purposes of God's law, they slam themselves against it. They're deceived. That's the wretchedness of sin. The sin perverts the law. It twists it and it brings forth death because people rebel against it.                 And I think I'll talk about this later on, but they didn't kill Jesus because anything bad he did. But he told them they couldn't continue the way they were living and they weren't going to heaven by practicing the law. And they didn't want him telling them what to do. They didn't want him to tell them they were wrong because these Pharisees, man, they were the... They were it. They were the power people. They were the mighty people. They were it. Man, if you were a Pharisee, you was the top dog. You were the muckety-muck, the powers that be. You were it. Because there was only 6,000 of those people when Paul was around. These guys, you know, they didn't want to be told they were doing anything wrong. And really, you know, the 10th commandment, thou shalt not covet, is really the sum of all the other commandments because that's where it all starts. This is really the commandment that starts it all because that's the commandment that what happened in the Garden of Eden. There was one tree that God says you cannot have. And the devil come along and said, hey, did God say? And she saw it was good for food. It was pleasant to the eyes. And it was desirable to make one wise. So she took of the fruit and she ate it, right? Why does she eat it? And the law kind of lays out that here's the spiritual minefield you need to watch out for. you wouldn't want somebody to not put a sign out there on the road that says bridge out or elevator out and you open up the door and you step through and you know, wow, okay, you know, well, there went Marty, stand to him, you know, drove off the bridge and there's no bridge there, right? The law is complete. The law provides a penalty. But guess what? The law is impossible to keep. It's impossible to keep. The law is also weak, and that's why Jesus had to come down on the cross, right? It says in Romans 8, 3, For what the law could not do, and that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh. I know that's kind of confusing. But we died to the law. We died to the law and it no longer has dominion over us. But we're not lawless. Because guess what? We're united to Christ. We're sharing his life. And thus we're walking in newness of life. Romans 8.4 says that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us. Who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit. Living for God, he says, the fruit of the spirit is what? Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness. Meekness, faith, difference. That's not fruits, but that's fruit. That's one thing that happens. We get all of those things when we live for Jesus. And those don't happen naturally. I mean, you don't see a fruit tree and when it grows, there's an apple. You know, straining to make an apple. But when you just trust God and follow Him, you just naturally produce fruit, right? And that's what he's saying here is that so many times people want to try to just set these rules and standards and we come up with a list of do's and don'ts, of do's and don'ts, do's and don'ts. And we hold ourselves and everybody else to this standard. But instead of trying to live by those rules, Let's just love the one who died for us and then we'll serve him and live for him because we want to. And then we'll do what's right. That's what he's saying there. And he's not trying to say that we don't live for God. But like I said, when there's a legalistic, you gotta do this, you gotta do that, you're gonna fight it. But when there's a love behind what you're doing, you're gonna do it because you want to. Because we have served a new, have a new husband. We are the bride.
