Many people followed him, and he cured them all, but he warned them not to make him known. Matthew 12:14–16To souls who love God and are united to Him, today's Gospel reveals a profound lesson about facing opposition. “The Pharisees went out and took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.” Why? Because of their rigid interpretation of the Sabbath law of rest. But Jesus, as the Son of God, in union with the Father and the Holy Spirit, is the origin of that law. The Sabbath was meant to call to mind God's rest after the six days of creation—a contemplative rest in which the people reflected upon God's goodness.The Pharisees had turned the Sabbath into a burdensome obligation, a scrupulous and empty duty. Jesus, the Author and Lord of the Sabbath, saw it very differently. Acts of charity are never to be refrained from—not even on the Sabbath. For the “offense” of healing a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath, the Pharisees began plotting Jesus' murder.When Jesus realized this, He withdrew from that place. This retreat was not born of cowardice but of meekness—a virtue often misunderstood in our world. Biblical meekness is not weakness or timidity; it is power under perfect control. It is strength harnessed by wisdom and love. Jesus possessed all power yet chose restraint. He could have called down legions of angels to destroy His enemies, but instead, He quietly stepped away. His hour had not yet come.This divine meekness allowed Jesus to continue His mission with quiet determination. Many people followed Him, and He cured them all, bringing healing and restoration to broken lives. In this moment, we see Jesus' quiet strength perfectly expressed. He did not come to wage war against the leaders of the synagogue but to establish the Kingdom of grace and truth.In keeping with Isaiah's prophecy, Jesus draws hearts to Himself in silence and mercy. “A bruised reed”—fragile, bent, and seemingly worthless—He will not snap. “A smoldering wick”—flickering, nearly extinguished—He will not quench. Instead, He heals and rekindles, patiently leading justice to victory (cf. Matthew 12:18–21).Consider your own mission and the opposition you face. Do coworkers mock your Catholic practices—perhaps your fasting on Fridays or stepping away for daily prayer? Do family members dismiss your commitment to Church teaching on marriage, sexuality, or the sanctity of life? Do friends challenge your dedication to serving the poor as “wasted time” that could be spent advancing your career?Each of us is called to respond as Christ did—with meekness that reflects true strength. Prayerfully discern whether it is your “hour” to suffer rebuke, or if you are being called, like Christ in today's Gospel, to turn away from the hostility and focus on those whom God is drawing to Himself through your witness.Reflect today on any opposition you face as you strive to fulfill God's will. Not every battle must be fought today. Humility and meekness often call us to quietly retreat so we can build up the foundation of God's Kingdom in other hearts. Of course, the hour of the Cross will come for each of us. When it does, we must embrace it with love. But until that moment, we follow Jesus in discerning, listening, and loving—even in silence. Lord of perfect wisdom, though Your charity was met with hostility by the Pharisees, You did not always confront them. At times, You spoke out; at other times, You withdrew to continue Your mission in silence. Grant me, O Lord, a discerning heart, that I may know when I am called to stand firm in truth and when I must embrace humble silence. May I seek only to do Your will, that Your Kingdom of grace may be more fully established in and through my life. Debt always costs more than the interest rate. It can affect your budget, your marriage, your margin, and even your ability to respond freely when God leads. That doesn't mean borrowing is always wrong. But it does mean Christians should approach debt carefully, prayerfully, and with wisdom. Ron Blue, a pioneer in biblically wise financial planning and co-founder of Kingdom Advisors, joined the show today to discuss principles from his article, “Five Rules for Borrowing,” featured in the latest issue of our Faithful Steward magazine. Here are several key questions to ask before taking on debt. Will This Debt Produce More Value Than It Costs? Ron's first rule is that borrowing always mortgages the future. When you borrow money today, you commit future income to yesterday's decision. That's why it's important to consider whether the economic return is greater than the economic cost. In some cases, borrowing may help you purchase something that can grow in value or produce long-term benefits, such as a home or a business. But that is very different from borrowing for things that immediately decline in value. Credit cards and auto loans are common examples. While using a credit card for convenience and paying it off every month can be reasonable, carrying credit card debt to fund consumption is a dangerous pattern. As Ron put it, borrowing to build wealth is one thing. Borrowing for something that steadily loses value is another. That road can quickly lead to bondage. Am I Presuming Upon the Future? The second rule is simple but often overlooked: never presume upon the future. When you borrow, you are making an assumption about tomorrow. You assume your income will continue. You assume your health will remain stable. You assume your circumstances will allow you to repay what you owe. But life does not always unfold the way we expect. Jobs change. Markets shift. Health challenges come. Unexpected expenses arise. That's why every borrowing decision needs a clear repayment plan. Before taking on debt, ask, “How will I pay this back?” If the answer depends on overly optimistic assumptions, it may be wise to pause. Borrowing without a sure path to repayment can create unnecessary pressure and reduce financial flexibility. Are We in Full Agreement as Husband and Wife? Debt not only affects a balance sheet. It affects the whole household. That is why Ron's third rule is that spouses should be in full agreement before any borrowing takes place. Husbands and wives often think differently about money. They may have different experiences, fears, preferences, and priorities. One spouse may be more comfortable with risk, while the other feels the weight of debt more deeply. Those differences are not necessarily wrong. In fact, they can be a gift. Ron reminds couples that God does not give us a spouse to frustrate us, but to complete us. When spouses slow down, listen well, and work through disagreements, they often make wiser decisions together than either would make alone. But when borrowing decisions are made without unity, they can create resentment, tension, and a growing sore spot in the marriage. Before taking on debt, couples should ask: “Are we truly united in this decision?” Have I Given God an Opportunity to Provide? Ron's fourth principle may be the most surprising: never deny God an opportunity to provide. Before borrowing, it is worth asking: Have I prayed about this? Have I asked God for wisdom? Have I considered whether there may be another way to meet this need? Sometimes borrowing feels like the fastest solution. But speed is not always the same as wisdom. God may provide through delayed timing, a different opportunity, a generous gift, a creative solution, or simply a change in desire. He may also confirm that borrowing is the right path. But the key is not to leave Him out of the decision. Wise stewardship means bringing our needs before the Lord and giving Him room to lead. Borrow Carefully, Prayerfully, and Wisely Debt is not always sinful, but it is never neutral. It places a claim on future income and can shape a household's freedom, peace, and flexibility. Before you borrow, ask whether the debt makes economic sense, whether you are presuming upon tomorrow, whether you and your spouse are in agreement, and whether you have given God an opportunity to provide. Hello, I'm Jeff Shepard. Welcome back. We have reached part 9 of 10 in this series. Over the past several episodes, we have traced one single lie from the Garden of Eden through every layer of deception that has entered the church. You will be like God. We saw how Helena Blavatsky and Alice Bailey laid the occult foundation. We examined Azusa Street and the Ladder Rain movement, where signs and wonders were mixed with chaos, extra-biblical revelations, and the elevation of man. Then we heard modern teachers openly declare that we are little gods, that Jesus was not fully God until his baptism or resurrection, and that we can ascend to the same level. Today, we pull it all together and look at the modern expression, the Seven Mountain Mandate and the not-so-secret New World Order Church. The Seven Mountain Mandate teaches that the church must take dominion over seven spheres, or mountains, of society, the government, media, education, business, family, religion, and arts and entertainment, and build the kingdom of God on earth before Jesus can return. Lance Wallnau, one of the leading voices of this teaching, explains it this way. There are seven molders of culture. He who could take those kingdoms could take the harvest of nations. These seven fields of influence can literally shape the agenda that forms nations. Johnny Enloe, in his book The Seven Mountain Prophecy, takes it even further. The father says to the son, once you have purchased redemption, you will remain up there as the head and your body on earth will crush your enemies. Your body, in fact, will not be a beautiful bride until she has accomplished this by crushing Satan. This is dominionism and Kingdom Now theology in action. The church is called to conquer and rule the nation so Jesus can finally return. It sounds spiritual, it sounds victorious, but it directly contradicts the clear teaching of Scripture. Jesus himself said in Matthew 24, 4-5, See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in my name saying, I am the Christ, and they will mislead many. The Apostle Paul warned in 1 Timothy 4-1, but the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons. And in 2 Timothy 4, 3-4, For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. Revelation makes it plain, Jesus brings his kingdom when he returns. We are not called to build it for him. We are called to be faithful witnesses, to make disciples of individuals, and to live as salt and light in a fallen world until he comes. Even in the middle of all this mixture, God is still there for anyone who is genuinely seeking the real Jesus, the eternal Son of God who became flesh, died for our sins, rose again, and is coming back as King. He meets sincere seekers wherever they are. But we are commanded to test everything. We cannot accept teachers who deny the deity of Christ, who call us little gods, or who say we must conquer the nations before Jesus returns. The focus must remain on the unchanging word of God. Be a Berean. Search the scriptures daily. Do not let anyone, no matter how famous or how many miracles they claim to pull you away from the truth that Jesus is Lord, fully God, and fully man, and that salvation is found in Him alone.
