Send us a textDavid expresses his trust in God several times in this Psalm and also asks that he not be ashamed.  He truly trusts in God as he says and has gone public in affirming his trust in the Lord.  If the Lord lets him down and his enemies triumph over him not only will his honor, but the Lord's honor will be at stake.  So what David is saying is don't let me be ashamed because if I am, your name is going to be dishonored too.  Do we feel the same way about the Lord and His honor and name? Everything a Christian does reflects on who God is and what He stands for.  So, let us make sure the way we live and when we make decisions that these reflect how great and holy our God is. Send us a textHere Jesus is still praying for us believers and is praying again that we would be one as the He is with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  They never fight over who gets to be the Father, who gets to be the Son or the Holy Spirit.  They are always one and in unison on everything because they have one purpose as we do also.  He is praying that we would be one in Them, THAT (here is the purpose) the world may believe that Jesus was sent by the Father and when they do that they will be saved.  That is it people, when we believe Jesus is who He said He was (God in Human Flesh), that He died for our sins, and we trust in that, we are saved. John 5:24 says if we don't honor the Son, we don't honor the Father.  When we live as we ought to in harmony with our faith others believe in Jesus.           Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textPsalm 119:104-105 says Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore, I hate every false way. Thy word is a light unto my path and a lamp unto my feet.  It has been said if we walk in the light that we do know, the light being the will of God, then God will show us how and where to make the next step in His will. Send us a textJesus has spoken many things so we can have His joy complete in our life.  We are also told how we have the Father's word and because of that we will be hated because we are not like the world.  He prays for us not to be taken out of the world, but that we will be protected while we are here.  Our job is not to get saved and leave, but we are to share God's word with others.  He also is praying that we will be Holy and separate from the world because we have been transformed by the Word we have read and absorbed into our life.  He also sends us as He was sent and has set Himself apart as completely holy so that we can be that way too.          Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textThis is a critical section of Scripture. Our calling to be one as the Bible defines oneness. In so many churches today we are fighting over the issues that we can agree to disagree on. What I mean is that we will not all agree on all the things the Bible says, we get caught up with election, predestination, tongues, and we fight over what color carpet to have or matters that just are not essential to our salvation. These items listed below are the things we need to stand up for and make sure the truth is defended. Send us a textExodus 25:30 "And you shall set the showbread, the"bread of the Presence" on the table before Me always. These loaves were laid in the tabernacle in God's presence for 7 days.  They were changed out every week and were not laid there as a sacrifice to God for Him to eat as the idol worshipping people did for their so called gods. This represented several things:  First it was symbolic of Israel's calling from God as His people. It was symbolic of Jesus the Messiah's bread of life presence with them as one who sustains them.  Third it was to represent their continual thanksgiving for all of the blessings of God they received each and every day. It also was a symbol of God's providing and that Israel was supposed to be a source of spiritual food for the world. Send us a textJesus has fulfilled His mission by revealing who God is to the disciples who have been chosen by the Father.  That is our mission, to reveal to the world Jesus Christ who is both Lord and Savior (2Peter 1:11). He tells us that they are a love gift from the Father to the Son Jesus Christ and they are saved. The proof is they have kept His word. They know that Jesus is God and everything He says comes from God the Father. He shows they are saved again by saying they received the words and have believed He was sent down by the Father. He prays for His disciples, He does not pray for the world because they are not His children. He has a special love for the disciples and all His children who have trusted Jesus as Lord and Savior. Lastly, He says that all believers belong to the Father and to Him also, and the way He will be glorified in the future is by the way we live here on earth for Him. Send us a text                  Every day we miss the mark on the greatest commandment to Love God like He deserves. He deserves first place in all we do and the way we do it should be pleasing to Him.  The second, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" is quoted from Leviticus 19:18 and is the most often quoted OT command (8 times in the NT), 3 in Matthew alone.  This is one of the most fundamental laws that God has ever given! Who is my neighbor: all people whom I come in contact with and have a chance to help spiritually or contribute to their well-being. These two commands sum up the 10 commandments and should be our first and greatest desire as we start and go through each day.                  Matthew 22:36-40 " 36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37 Jesus said to him," 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 "This is the first and great commandment. 39 "And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 "On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."             Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textWho or what is your God?  A god is anything we sacrifice to or for.  We can sacrifice all our time, money, and energy for a job, a hobby, family, or any number of things. These can be good things if put in the proper priority. We need to make sure that God is the only one who has first place in our life. When we have nothing that subtracts from what He wants us to do, life will be as it should be.  Yes, life is still tough, difficult, and holds many dangers and traps, but it will bring the joy, peace, and abundant life in spite of those things if our goal is to show that He and only He is worthy of worship and glory. What is it that is hindering your relationship with God?  If you are worshipping (that is giving all your time, money, or energy) to things that will not bring glory to God you are wasting your life.  Let's covenant today not to do that. Send us a textThe law was given through Moses, but the truth (the law) can only condemn.  It is God alone who can see us for who we really are inside and yet give us the grace that we don't deserve.  Sometimes it is hard to remember that this is true.  Later in Mark 9:24 a man says to Jesus, Lord I believe, help my unbelief.  Do you ask God to help you as this man did to help you daily to trust in Him, to believe His promises, to know that even though you are not perfect and make many mistakes as Peter did, He says to you I have prayed for you that you may not fail? (Luke 22:32) Remember believer, you are His and He will never leave you nor forsake you and nothing can separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. Send us a textThe disciples were alone with Jesus on the mountain of transfiguration in Mark 9 and Matthew 17 and they got a glimpse of who He truly is and heard the Father speak of how He was pleased with Jesus. They were able to hear a word from God and see a glimpse of His true glory only because they were alone with Him on the mountain.  Have you seen Jesus for who He truly is and realized that in Him alone we are to look to for our salvation, comfort, strength, and joy? The bible says in Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Luke again stressed that the results of the preaching of the gospel were due to God's work. The Christian evangelists were only harvesting the souls that God had already prepared. "Once again the human responsibility of believing is shown to match exactly with what God in his sovereignty had planned." The reference to God's Word having a part in their healing shows that spiritual nourishment plays a vital part in physical restoration. Such salvation should move God's people to make sacrifices to express their gratitude and to tell other people about the Lord's goodness. Have we cried out to God in desperation and asked Him to heal us and restore us from our sins, and told others how great He is?                                Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving kindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 "And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.               In this section of Scripture we see Jesus asking the Father to give Him back the Glory which He had before the foundation of the World.  Jesus is God and was never less than God, but He did give up the usage of some of His divine attributes while He was here on earth such as knowing everything that would happen (Omniscience), He gave up the worship He had in Heaven, the infinite riches He had, the Omnipotence – being all powerful, and His ability to be everywhere at the same time as Jesus (Omnipresence). Jesus wanted to and did Glorify the Father by dying on the cross and paying for the sins of all people. He also did this by living a perfect sinless life while here on earth. He also defined eternal life as knowing the true God and Jesus Christ who are one.  Eternal life is not in a place called Heaven, but in a person called Jesus Christ who is God that came in human flesh. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textIn Iconium the Jews and Gentiles tried to stone Paul and Barnabas, so they left as any sensible person would. They didn't want to remain and be stoned or lynched by this mob. It is a wise Christian who always knows when to stand his ground and when to leave for the glory of God. Paul and Barnabas were following the directions the Lord Jesus gave to them and so they left to go to Lystra and Derbe where they began sharing the Gospel again as it says in Acts 14:7. Notice they didn't quit because they were scared, but moved to another location and began again. Are we fearful of what others might think or do to us if we share the Gospel? May God give us boldness such as these men had.                           And there they continued to preach the gospel. Send us a text       Acts 16:40 says A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul. Lydia being a rich woman was another of God's unlikely candidates to get saved to start the Philippian Church. God also saved the cruel gentile jailer and a demon possessed woman. These were the first converts. God used all of them to build a mighty church on the Ignatian Way which was the road which was the lifeline between the Western and Eastern parts of the huge Roman Empire.. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. 16 ¶ "A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father." 17 Then some of His disciples said among themselves, "What is this that He says to us, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?" 18 They said therefore, "What is this that He says, 'A little while'? We do not know what He is saying." 19 Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, "Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'? 20 "Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. 21 "A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 "Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. In this section, Jesus tells them another purpose of the Holy Spirit is to Glorify Him by declaring His Word to them. He then begins to tell them in a little while they will not see Him and then again in a little while they will see Him. This totally confuses the disciples who do not understand this at all. So, Jesus begins to explain it to them by using some terms that show that He is first going to the cross and they will weep and lament, but the world will have joy because they have killed Him. Then when he is resurrected they will have joy because He has died for their sins and overcome death. They will see him for a little while here on earth after He is resurrected, but then they will see Him and be with Him forever in Heaven. So remember, James 4:14, Rom 8:18, and Ps 30:5 Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. This life and it's sorrow will soon be over if we are a Christian and it's only a little while and then we will be with Him in heaven forever with no more tears, sorrow, pain, or anything else to cause us trouble.  AMEN! Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textJohn 16:9 "of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 "of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 "of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.           In the previous section we learned that Jesus was leaving and when He left He would send the Holy Spirit.  We found out that it would be to the disciples and our advantage that Jesus left because Jesus in His earthly body could only be in one place at a time, whereas the Holy Spirit can be with and live inside each believer at the same time.  Now we find out why it is to our advantage that Jesus leaves and sends the Holy Spirit.  First it is because He will convict the World of their sin, His righteousness, and the judgment that comes if they don't trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  He says that if He has judged the ruler of this world who is Satan, then He will certainly judge us if we don't trust in Him.  We also find out that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and He will guide us into all the truth we need to live this life (2Peter 1:3-4) and things that will happen in the future.  Remember the Holy Spirit is part of the Godhead, the three in one Trinity. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. We will see in this message that Jesus is telling them He is going away, but the disciples are more concerned with themselves than they are that Jesus will die. They are sorrowful because of their loss, not His dying. Send us a textI know many today wonder whether God is truly with them and try all kinds of means and methods to get what they want or get out of problems.  It seems like people want don't want to trust God for anything but as a last resort.  God did everything necessary to save you and will be with you.  It is also a great reminder to those of us who are or have been in the path of the storm that all of these things are just things and what is important is knowing the Lord and putting our trust in Him. David was so sure of God that he spoke in Psalm 20:8 as if it had already happened.  The name of the Lord refers to God's character, reputation, and nature.David gained confidence as he reflected on his God. Send us a textIn a time when Pharaoh was killing all of the Jewish children two ordinary Hebrews are obedient to God.  They trust God and put this child who is Moses in a little ark that reminds us of the ark that Noah the first savior of the human race and his family were protected in. God uses these two ordinary people to raise up a redeemer for His people. Moses is a picture of the greater redeemer Jesus. It is pretty ironic in one sense they were obeying Pharaoh's command to throw the children in the river. But it was also God's plan to save Moses and use him to deliver the Israelites from slavery, a picture of our human condition without Christ. God's hand is seen so incredibly in this story. The very people who hate the Israelites become the savior of the one who would destroy their nation and show God is mightier than any of their so called gods and even pay Moses' mother to raise him. Do you and I trust God no matter what?  Do we obey Him even when His commands make no sense to us?  Do we remember that God can use anybody? We need to remember that God knows all and is always working out His Will behind the scenes even when we can't see it.              Exodus 2:1-9 And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river's bank. 4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. 5 ¶ Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. 6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children." 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?" 8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go." So the maiden went and called the child's mother. 9 Then Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages." Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 "But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. 22 "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 "He who hates Me hates My Father also. 24 "If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father. 25 "But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.' In this section Jesus makes it very clear that if you have trusted Him as your Lord and Savior that the world will hate you because it hated and still hates Him. The people of the world love us if we live like they do in sin, but when we live for God they hate us because we make them feel guilty and look bad. Jesus reminds them that they are His because He first loved them and chose them. He says that we will be persecuted because they even did it to Him and He is both Lord and Creator of everything.  Then He says that the Pharisees and those who have heard His word would not be guilty of willfully rejecting Him if He had not come and revealed Himself.  The principle of the Bible is that we are all guilty and deserving of hell according to Romans Chapters 1:16-3:31, but the more we know about God, the guiltier we become. If we respond to the light or revelation of Christ we have been given, God will show us more about Him (John 7:17). Lastly, He says that you cannot know God and do not love Him if you hate the Son Jesus. Anyone who claims to love God and hates Jesus is a liar. He finishes by saying that people hate Jesus for no reason other than He condemns their sin.  He never did anything wrong that would make them hate Him. 2Ti 3:12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.      Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textMatthew 15:32 says Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way." Again we see Jesus' compassion for this crowd.  The crowds had been standing in line for days to get help from Jesus and were now weak for lack of food. He tests the disciples with an implied let's feed them.  The disciples are thinking in human terms even though they have seen Jesus do many miracles.  So the question is how much food do we have, they answer and Jesus begins to do another great miracle of creation as He feeds 4,000 men, plus women and children and has 7 baskets left over.  This is possibly up to 16,000 people.  Jesus is showing the people that He is the bread of life and whoever comes to Him will never hunger.  Have you had your spiritual emptiness and deepest longings satisfied by the one who will feed us with spiritual food that always satisfies?Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textJesus begins by telling them that He has spoken all these things that we might be full of joy in our lives. Jesus did not come so that we would be miserable, but joyful. Then He commands us to love one another as He has loved us by being willing to lay down our life if necessary. He gave Himself totally and completely because of His great love with which He loved us (Eph 2:4). This is the greatest kind of love that gives everything including our lives. Then He tells us that we are saved (His Friends) if we love like this and whatever else He asks us to do. He also says He will show us what He is doing and we will know the will of the Father and all He the Father has told Him. Lastly, He tells us that He is the one who chose us and did it so that we would bear fruit. Then He repeats the command that we love one another. Send us a textIn Matthew 15:7-9 Jesus said "Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 8 'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'" In the time of the prophet Isaiah, the Jewish people followed their religious celebrations to the letter. They showed up at the right time, sacrificed the right amount, and offered many prayers. But when they left the temple, they forgot about God. Nearly 3,000 years later, not much has changed. Do we think our responsibility to God begins and ends with going to church and giving an offering? This attitude makes us more of a burden to God than a blessing. We are not accomplishing the tasks that are important to Him as it says in Isaiah 1:17—doing good, seeking justice, defending the fatherless, and pleading for widows. God is not impressed with a full house at religious gatherings if the people come with empty hearts. Send us a textJohn 15:4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.                In this wonderful section of Scripture we will see that unless we abide we can nothing that God has ordained for us to do. I believe abide first of all means we are saved if we abide in Him and He abides in us, Romans 8:9, John 14:20, 17:23. Then, when we are filled with the Spirit we bear much fruit.  Being filled with the Spirit is talked about in Eph 5:9, 5:18-21, and Col 3:16-23. If we are not saved we are unable to do anything that is a supernatural God work. In other words, if you are saved you know that before you were saved you were unable to change and get rid of those sin areas in your life that plagued you. You also now have an ability to live for God and also do great works in His name (see Mt 5:16, Eph 3:20). The Fruit of the Spirit is spoken of in Gal 5:22, but it also is shown in the passages above where Paul says it will be shown by;1. Speaking about the Word of God (What dominates your thought life)2. Singing and Making Melody in your Heart (Joy) 3. Thankfulness  4. Send us a text  Matthew 14:3-4 says For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. 4 Because John had said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." We need some modern day John the Baptist's who are willing to call sin what it is.  Many today are willing to pander to society and all their so called freedoms.  It is appalling what Christians today or people that call themselves Christians are willing to put up with, cater to or be exposed to in order to be accepted and liked.  The world is not looking for people like them, they see enough of that already, what they are looking for is what the Bible calls in 1 Peter 2:9 a holy people, a set apart people.  People who are different.  If we look like the world do you think non-Christians will want to be saved?  No. Let us live up to our calling to walk worthy of the Lord and that is definitely not a worldly walk.     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textIn today's lesson we will see that Jesus tells us that the people who do not bear fruit are not really saved and He takes them away.  We will see later they are burned in the fire (sent to hell).  He tells us that the true disciples are the ones the Father prunes; they are the ones that bear fruit.  This chapter says very clearly that if you are saved your life will show it by the fruit you bear because you are connected to the True Vine (Jesus).  He also says that they have been washed clean from their sins by the Word of God. (Titus 3:5, Ephesians 5:26-27). He lastly tells us the only way we can produce fruit is if we are connected to the vine and live in a close intimate relationship with him. Send us a textMatthew 13:44-46 says "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 "who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Here we see the kingdom of God described as something that is invaluable and it is worth anything that we might have to pay for it.  The person who really is a child of God knows that and has and will give up anything or everything to go to heaven.  The good news is that it is a free gift and to enter the kingdom all one has to do is to turn from our sins, repent and believe the good news that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and raised to life again on the third day.  To believe means we trust with all we have in us that all of this is true and it is enough to save us and get forgiveness of our sins). Send us a textIn this passage of Scripture which many people have misinterpreted, we will see that Jesus is telling us that He is the true source of our spiritual and physical life. Acts 17:28 "for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'  2Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.  Jesus is the source of it all and the Father is the one who will do the cutting (chastising in our life) when it is needed.  The way a vine produces fruit is by cutting it back and it will produce more.  God does the same thing in our life when He cuts away those unnecessary things out of our life so we can continue to grow in the grace and the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus is talking about two groups of people here.  One is the true Christians who when they are cut on bear more fruit and the false Christians who never bear any fruit.  Mt 7:16 "You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?  17 "Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. 21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textPsalm 17:14-15 says With Your hand from men, O LORD, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes. 15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. David was praying that God would deliver him from wicked men, the people of this world who only live for what they can get and do that brings them pleasure and leave them for their children.  The wicked don't care anything about the spiritual things of God. In contrast David's greatest pleasure and delight was in God and not the things of this world.  David could either be referring to his daily enjoyment in living for God in His presence or the fact that one day David would wake up in heaven and be like Him.  What is it that drives your life?  Do you care about the things of God or what is the most important thing for you?  I hope and pray it is God and the spiritual things that come from knowing Him.     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textJesus started out this passage saying let not your heart be troubled and then begins to tell them what all is going to happen.  He then tells them that he is leaving and they need not be worried because He will take care of them and He will still be with them in another way. Then He finishes the section by telling them the way He will be with them is by sending the Holy Spirit who will teach them and bring to remembrance all things He said to them.  But as they are worrying about all of this still He says my peace I leave you not as the world gives peace and again don't let your heart be troubled.  He says He is their peace and that they need not worry and neither should we.  He says they should rejoice in the fact that He is leaving and going back to heaven.  Plus, He says all of this in advance so that they will know that He knew it was going to happen.  Lastly, He lets them know again for the umpteenth time that He does all of this because He is doing the Father's will.  Will we trust God no matter how hard it gets and rejoice in what He is doing in our lives through the hard times or let them stress us out? V26 His peace is rooted in His Word, v27 Sourced by His Person(My peace I give to you), different from that the world gives, have peace in spite of trouble, v27 Experienced by faith (Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.) Same as He started the Chapter don't have to let it if you trust Him. Send us a text                    Matthew 13:36-39 says His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field." 37 He answered and said to them: "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 "The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 "The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. Jesus explains the parable to His disciples by saying that He is the one who sows the good seed (the Gospel -1 Corinthians 15:3-4).  True believers living in the world are going to be attacked by unbelievers (tares) and they will also try to deceive others into believing they are really saved.  They will try to deceive and destroy true believers by leading them down false roads and infiltrating all the good things true believers are doing.  They will take every opportunity to destroy the testimony of God's people and the work they are doing.  Look around you, many you may know are not really believers.  One famous preacher said he believed if the rapture occurred during church only about 28% of the people would disappear and leave to be with the Lord. The rest are unbelievers. We need to be able to discern the truth by knowing our bibles and when these people try to discourage, destroy, or stop our work for the Lord we should be able to spot them and what they are doing because we know our bible so well.Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a text In this section of Scripture Jesus defines a true Christian as one who keeps His commandments.  He is very clear; those who do not obey Jesus are not really saved no matter how much they go to church or know their Bible, or how many good deeds they do.  This cannot be any more clear.  How many today will say they are going to Heaven but do not live in any way that looks like what a Christian is supposed to be according to the Bible?  Jesus does not say we get to Heaven by doing good works, but that if we are saved we will do them.  Look at James 2:14-17 and Ephesians 2:8-10.  They both say we are saved by faith, but the faith that saves is never alone, it is always accompanied by good works which are the evidence of salvation.  Jesus says this four different times in this passage.  I think he wants us to know that the way we know someone is saved is if they keep His word which is His commandments.  He also tells us that He will send the Holy Spirit to be in us and with us forever.  He will take Jesus place as our encourager and helper in this world.  He also tells us that if we keep His commandments the Father will love us too and He and the Father will come to us and live with us forever since they are coming to make their home with us.  Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textMatthew 13:23 says "But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. In Matthew 13:23 we see the true believer. Jesus described in verses 18-22 the ones who never wanted salvation, the ones who cared more about riches and things, and the ones who did not want to be persecuted. The true believer is one who understands the message, receives it and responds in believing faith in Jesus as it says in Ephesians 1:13-14. All who believe in Christ produce some kind of spiritual fruit (doing good, sharing, praise, leading others to Christ, etc.).  You may have to look hard but the fruit is there. The bible would say if there is no fruit then you have no root. You don't belong to Jesus.  See also John 15.  I heard someone say if you were arrested for being a Christian would there be enough evidence to convict you?  Something to think about. Jesus is not merely One who has shown men the way; He is the way. It is His death, resurrection, and ascension that has made a way for men to spend eternity with God in heaven. He is not merely a way; He is the way. He is the one and only way that God has provided for men to obtain the forgiveness of their sins and the gift of eternal life. Lest anyone miss this point, Jesus says it again, in the plainest of words: “No one comes to the Father except through Me.” To know Jesus is to know the way to the Father, for He is the way. Send us a textMatthew 12:50 says "For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother." Jesus is not dismissing his family or saying they have no part with Him, but He is saying His true (spiritual) family are those who have trusted in Him as their Lord and Savior.  It is not those who try to do good things, go to church, get baptized or take communion who are the family of Christ, but it is those who have trusted in Him and because of that they do His will.  That is, they keep His commandments, no, not perfectly, no one does this on earth, we will be perfect in heaven but our want to's, our desires are to please God.  Not because we have to but because we want to as we have been changed from the inside by the Holy Spirit who now lives in us because we are saved. All throughout the New Testament the Bible says those that know Christ live differently because of their salvation.  You can't be a Christian and not have your life change.  It is impossible.  Over and over again Jesus would say “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say (Luke 6:46)? Send us a text  Today's Scripture deals with the time in the upper room where Jesus and the disciples are having the last supper. Jesus is giving final instructions to them before He leaves earth so they can deal with all that life will throw at them.  Peter does not understand why he cannot go with Jesus; he has gone with Him everywhere for 3 years and does not want Jesus to leave him and the disciples. Peter goes so far as to say he will die for Jesus.  Jesus then tells Peter that he will deny Him three times before the rooster crows.  He then begins to tell them it is going to be alright and they need not be troubled.  He tells them to trust in Him and believe in Him as they already do in God the Father, because He is God and is equal with the Father. Jesus knows they are in a really bad place and He wants to assure them that it will be okay and that He is going to prepare a place for them so they can be with Him forever.36 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, where are You going?" Jesus answered him, "Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward."I think Peter was so shocked by our Lord's words in verse 33 that he just couldn't get past them. Peter “locked in” on what Jesus had said about going away. He wanted to know where Jesus was going and why he could not go with Him. He had followed Him all this way, all the way to Jerusalem. There was no turning back for him. He was committed to follow Jesus. And now Jesus is talking about going somewhere where he cannot follow? No way! Not for Peter. Jesus answers Peter's question indirectly, but even this oblique reply should have given Peter some comfort. Jesus was going somewhere where Peter could not follow Him now, but he will, Jesus said, “follow later.” That is not good enough for Peter. The word “now” is foremost in Peter's mind. He does not want to wait. He wants to follow Jesus now, wherever that might be. Peter does not seem to have a clue that Jesus is talking about going to the Father in heaven. He seems fixed on the idea that Jesus is going to change His place of residence on earth. Peter seems to be reasoning something like this: “Jesus says He's going somewhere, and I can't follow. He won't say where, and He won't say why. It must be the danger. He doesn't want me coming along because it's too dangerous. He doesn't think I can take it. Well, I'll let Him know that I can handle anything anyone dishes out …” 37 Peter said to Him, "Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake." 38 Jesus answered him, "Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times. (NKJV)In his excellent commentary on the Gospel of John, William Hendriksen points out some very informative facts about Peter's words here and in the Synoptic Gospels. Let me cite them:In connection with this boast a few additional facts must be noted:a. Peter spoke these words both before and after Christ's prediction which is recorded in 13:38, as is clear from Matt. 26:33-35; Mark 14:29-31. Evidently, at the time, the words of Jesus, telling Peter that in spite of his boasting he would do the very thing which he promised so emphatically not to do, failed to register. Peter was too sure of himself.b. He used very emphatic language. Note the double negative in Matt. 26:35, so that the boast may be rendered: ‘I will certainly not deny thee.' And compare: ‘I will never be ensnared.'c. He spoke with great vehemence (Mark 14:31), evidently not at all pleased with the fact that Jesus had a different opinion.d. The passage here in John indicates that Peter's boas

Send us a text                         Genesis 39:2-4 says The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hand. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. This phrase the Lord was with Joseph occurs 4 times in this chapter.  It is important to note that the reason for Joseph's success is that this was true. This was not because the Lord randomly chose this man, but because he was faithful in a little and therefore the Lord placed him in charge of much (Luke 16:10). Joseph was in charge of Potiphar's house and all that he owned. The Lord even blessed Potiphar because of Joseph. In the Old Testament the way the Lord showed others that someone was faithful to God and a godly man was through earthly blessings.  This was Old Testament; in the New Testament it says God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3). That doesn't mean that God can't bless us this way now, but He blesses us in so many other ways that mean so much more than material possessions. Have you and I been faithful in a little so that God will be able to bless us in much?  Let us draw near to God and ask God what it is that He wants us to do so that we might be a blessing to others around us.     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textIn this section of Scripture we see that Jesus has given Judas the bread and at that point, the devil enters Judas.  Judas willingly invited the devil into his life and it cost him all of eternity in hell.  Jesus tells him to go ahead and betray Him since that is what Judas intended to do. When Judas has left Jesus states that now He (the Son of Man) is glorified. What Jesus means is the way He is going to be glorified is by dying on the cross for our sins. Jesus speaks of it as if it had already happened, since it was going to and He knew it would.  Judas goes out and it is night, there is a double meaning here since John always speaks of darkness as error, lies, and sin.  Then Jesus proceeds to tell them He is going to heaven even though He says it in terms they don't understand.   Lastly, Jesus gives us that famous statement a new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."  We are to love one another no matter what happens is what He is saying.  He then says it will be known that we belong to Jesus is by the way we show our love to each other.  Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textMatthew 11:28-30 says "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 is an invitation for all to come to Christ and be saved.  It was originally offered to Israel as they struggled and toiled as we also do in this world's difficulties.  Trying to live life without Christ is wearisome and hard as all of life's difficulties bear down on us. Without Christ many times life just overwhelms us and beats us down. Many bail out on life because it just becomes too hard.  Many try the religious way of life and all the rules and regulations that they impose on people, but that is not what Christ does. He loves us and cares for us and when we trust in Him as Savior then life becomes easier as we can give all our cares and burdens to Him (1 Peter 5:6, Philippians 4:6-9). When we come to Christ the things that we felt we needed to do to get into heaven and please God and men become something we want to do, not have to.  That is why coming to Christ takes the load off of our shoulders as He gives us earthly peace, joy, and abundant life.  Do you know Him as Savior?  Come to Him today, ask Him to forgive you and save you because of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection which paid for your sins (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).       Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a text                In John 13:18-30 we see Jesus pointing out that Judas is the one who will betray Him and that He is telling this so they will believe He is the I AM God of the Old Testament who has come in the flesh.  He also tells them that it will fulfill the Scriptures to show how accurate they are and that all that is said in them is true and will come true if it is a future prediction.  Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies when He came the first time and will fulfill at least that many when He comes again.  If you haven't believed on Him, the question is why not?  Who fulfilled prophecies and done as many great signs that show He is God? Send us a text1 Peter 2:2 says As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: here Peter urges those who are Christians to desire the milk of the word which is Christ or the word of God itself. Either way we are to long for and develop an appetite for the things of God, especially for Christ and His word which teaches us who we are and what we ought to believe. To develop an appetite for the word we must read it daily and the more we read the more we will want to know what it says and how to behave. Send us a textIn this very familiar passage of Scripture, we see Jesus having set the example for Servant Leadership in the first eleven verses asking them if they know what He has done.  Then He explains what He has done and why He did it. Jesus says Most Assuredly (i.e.; Listen Up What I am about to say is very Important).  He says that if He the Lord and God who created everything washed their dirty nasty feet, then what ought they to do?  Jesus is saying that we ought to do whatever it takes to help others become who they ought to be in Christ.  That we are to help everyone in spite of what they look like, smell like, talk like, act like, or anything else that we may not like about them.  Jesus says a blessing comes not by knowing what you ought to do, but by doing the very thing we most dislike doing sometimes, helping others who are not like us. Mt 25:40 "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' Where do you get your spiritual wisdom and understanding from? I want to challenge you to read a chapter or a short book of the Bible for a week to 30 days straight and see what happens when you do. Maybe try it for 90 days. You might miss a day or two here or there, but keep at it and see how much you learn. Look for repeated words and phrases, you will be amazed at how much God will show you if you do this.
