Send us a textExodus 23:29-31 says "I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beast of the field become too numerous for you.  30 "Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land. 31 "And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. I believe these verses have an application for us today in that it speaks of our sanctification, God will give you the ability to drive out the sins in your life as He puts His finger on them and says they must go.  We have to be obedient to do this when He tells us to or else there will come a time when we will not be able to drive them out. Later on the Israelites had not obeyed the voice of God and He told them because they would not drive the out they could not and they were plagued the rest of their days and to this day by the inhabitants of the land.  We need to listen to God when He says get rid of a sin and then we will not have to deal with it the rest of our life.     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a text In John 18:31-38 we see Pilate still trying to get out of crucifying Jesus, but the Jews will not be persuaded. Jesus is then questioned by Pilate as to who He really is.  We know that Pilate's wife has had a dream about Jesus; he knows they delivered Him up for envy and so he is still desperately trying to find some way out.  Jesus then puts Pilate on the hot seat and even while He is under threat of the cross, He is still concerned with Pilate's soul.  Jesus wants to know why Pilate is asking the questions He asks.  Jesus admits He is a King, but of a heavenly realm, not earthly.  He then tells Pilate the reason He came is to bear witness of the truth and poor Pilate responds what is truth. Jesus knows Pilate is not going to trust Him as Savior, so He ends the conversation and ultimately refuses to speak to him anymore.  Pilate's fate is sealed. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a text               Matthew 20:33 says They said to Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.”  God fed the Israelites with the food that came down from Heaven.  Jesus said He was the bread that came down from Heaven (John 6). This manna was the only food they had for the 40 years of wilderness wandering.  Christ is the only (spiritual) food we need during our earthly “wilderness wandering” on the way to the promised land (heaven). Nothing else satisfies, nothing else gives spiritual strength and life. It also represents his humiliation as His body was shattered before and after He was put on the cross.  He gave His flesh that we might have life and we remember that each time we celebrate the Lord's supper. They went out early to get it as we need to feast on Jesus' word and Spirit before our day starts. Send us a textIn this section we see the Jews just assume that Pilate will kill this ”Man” Jesus that they want killed because of envy.  Pilate lets them know real quick that it isn't going to be that simple, but asks what is He accused of? They come up with this general if He weren't an evil doer we would not have delivered Him up to you. In other words, we want Him killed, don't worry about the charges, just kill Him. The Jews have Pilate right where they want him and they are ultimately going to force Him to kill Jesus. We will see that Pilate has messed up three times in insulting the Jews and their God by some of the things he did. This is ultimately how they force him to do their will, because if he messes up one more time it is means the loss of his political position at the least and most like it will cost him his life. Are we willing to give up all our human ambitions to follow Jesus?  If not, why not? Send us a text                           1 John 3:18-19 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. John speaks here of love as an action as does 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter and also James and many other places in the Bible. Love never just says, it always is grounded in the truth of the word and results in a love that wants the best for others. When we have this love it gives us assurance that we truly belong to Christ and gives us confidence to come boldly into His presence with our prayers. The whole book of 1 John is a series of tests that are meant to show us we are true believers and how to spot the false professors, or to show us our need of salvation. This is the test of love and the whole Bible is based on a love that God in Christ showed for us. If He did it for us, can we not show it to others? Send us a textThis section has been called by some Jesus' trial and Peter's Denial. Jesus honors the Father by trusting in Him through every circumstance and Peter fails miserably.  Peter fails because He did not watch and pray as Jesus told him and the disciples to in the garden when Jesus went to pray. Mt 26:41 "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." They kept falling asleep and Jesus had already warned Peter that Satan desired to sift him as wheat earlier in Lu 22:31. Then He singles out Peter in Mt 26:40 Then He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? Peter fails because he thinks he can't which contradicts 1Co 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. Jesus stands strong because He has prayed and continues to trust the Father.  Peter fails because he is proud, he doesn't pray for help, and lastly because He did not leave when Jesus told them to leave and let them just take Him. He was somewhere he should have never been. Remember 1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Send us a textProverbs 24:3 says Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; If you read to verse 6 you find out that wisdom is essential if we are to live a life that is pleasing to God and is fruitful. All of life is dependent on wise decisions. "The wise man built his house upon a rock," and that Rock is Christ Jesus (cf. Matt.7:24-27; 1 Cor. 10:4). God is the source of wisdom, not the world. A wise person knows that he needs other people in his life to help him make right decisions. We are foolish when we don't supplement our study of scriptures and every day decisions by first asking God and then when we are not clear on a decision to run it by others also. It is good to have godly friends who have knowledge in areas we don't and can give wise counsel. Send us a textJohn 18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered. 2 And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples. 3 Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons. 4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, "Whom are you seeking?" 5 They answered Him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am He." And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them. 6 Now when He said to them, "I am He," they drew back and fell to the ground. 7 Then He asked them again, "Whom are you seeking?" And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth." 8 Jesus answered, "I have told you that I am He. Therefore, if you seek Me, let these go their way," 9 that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, "Of those whom You gave Me I have lost none." 10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. 11 So Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?"             After Jesus finishes praying, He goes with His disciples to the garden. John leaves out the fact that Jesus prays again and sweats great drops of blood and His disciples sleep when they should have been praying also. John does this because he is focusing us on the greatness and supremacy of Jesus as the God Man. He wants to show us that the Jews have brought anywhere from 200 to 1200 plus people to get one MAN. The MAN that they could not get no matter how hard they have tried in the past to kill him or capture Him. Jesus shows His authority and power by stepping forward and confronting them with the question who do you seek instead of drawing back and running when they come for Him. They tell Him Jesus of Nazareth and He says I AM; I AM God, the self-existent one, YAWEH. They all are knocked down due to the power in that name. He surrenders Himself so that His disciples will not be killed and to fulfill that scripture that He lost none who were given to Him by the Father. Lastly Peter draws a small sword and whacks off Malchus's ear and Jesus says put up your sword, Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me? In other words shall I not go to the cross and take all humanity's sin by taking their place and suffering their hell while on the cross. That is why Jesus came and that is why He had to go to the cross. John 3:14 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. Send us a textIn 1 John 2:15-17 John says don't love the world system of evil and wants that are always wanting more. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life are the three ways the devil always tempts us. It was done in the garden with Eve, and many other places in the Old Testament. It was attempted with Jesus when He fasted 40 days and nights. He never fell prey to the devil's temptations but fought them with scripture. He set the example of how we can win the battle with temptation too. We need to memorize scripture and remember who God is and that what He has is way better than the devil's cheap imitation of satisfaction. The devil's goodies always leave us wanting more. Let us remember the words of Ephesians 6:10 and following to verse 21. We are to be strong in the Lord and the power of His Might. Stand, withstand, having done all to stand, stand therefore. We don't need to win the battle, Jesus already has, so stand strong in His power. Amen!                    1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. Send us a textIn this section we see Jesus saying He has given us His glory that we will be one. The earthly sufferings of our Lord are part of His glory (John 12:23; 13:31-32; 17:1). And it is this glory—the glory of servant hood and of sacrificial service, which our Lord has given to us, His disciples. As Jesus was glorified by His coming to this earth, being rejected by men and put to death, so His disciples are also given the same glory, the glory of suffering for the sake of Christ: Secondly, He prays for us to have the same love that the Father loves the Son with.  This is a love which will prompt one to lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13). Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a text                      1 John 1:1-2 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life-- 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us. These verses say this one from the beginning is a Real Person, and he has been seen and heard and handled. In other words, Christian faith rests upon the great facts of the life and acts of the God Man in history. The Apostle Paul stresses this a lot in his writings. Our Christian faith does not rest simply on ideas, or doctrinal statements. That is why becoming a Christian is not simply a matter of joining a church, or believing a certain creed, or signing a doctrinal statement. That has nothing to do with becoming a Christian. John points out that becoming a Christian is to be related to a Person. This is the point to which all objections to Christianity are ultimately directed, and attempt to destroy this basis of fact. The forces which seek to overthrow Christian faith today try to undermine our confidence in the facts of Scripture, these great historical truths about a Person who appeared in time.               Jesus is both the messenger and the message. The message and the messenger are identical. He is the one that IS and gives us eternal life. Send us a textDavid expresses his trust in God several times in this Psalm and also asks that he not be ashamed.  He truly trusts in God as he says and has gone public in affirming his trust in the Lord.  If the Lord lets him down and his enemies triumph over him not only will his honor, but the Lord's honor will be at stake.  So what David is saying is don't let me be ashamed because if I am, your name is going to be dishonored too.  Do we feel the same way about the Lord and His honor and name? Everything a Christian does reflects on who God is and what He stands for.  So, let us make sure the way we live and when we make decisions that these reflect how great and holy our God is. Send us a textHere Jesus is still praying for us believers and is praying again that we would be one as the He is with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  They never fight over who gets to be the Father, who gets to be the Son or the Holy Spirit.  They are always one and in unison on everything because they have one purpose as we do also.  He is praying that we would be one in Them, THAT (here is the purpose) the world may believe that Jesus was sent by the Father and when they do that they will be saved.  That is it people, when we believe Jesus is who He said He was (God in Human Flesh), that He died for our sins, and we trust in that, we are saved. John 5:24 says if we don't honor the Son, we don't honor the Father.  When we live as we ought to in harmony with our faith others believe in Jesus.           Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Thy word is a light unto my path and a lamp unto my feet.  It has been said if we walk in the light that we do know, the light being the will of God, then God will show us how and where to make the next step in His will. What I mean is that we will not all agree on all the things the Bible says, we get caught up with election, predestination, tongues, and we fight over what color carpet to have or matters that just are not essential to our salvation. These loaves were laid in the tabernacle in God's presence for 7 days.  They were changed out every week and were not laid there as a sacrifice to God for Him to eat as the idol worshipping people did for their so called gods. This represented several things:  First it was symbolic of Israel's calling from God as His people. It was symbolic of Jesus the Messiah's bread of life presence with them as one who sustains them.  Third it was to represent their continual thanksgiving for all of the blessings of God they received each and every day. It also was a symbol of God's providing and that Israel was supposed to be a source of spiritual food for the world. Send us a textJesus has fulfilled His mission by revealing who God is to the disciples who have been chosen by the Father.  That is our mission, to reveal to the world Jesus Christ who is both Lord and Savior (2Peter 1:11). He tells us that they are a love gift from the Father to the Son Jesus Christ and they are saved. The proof is they have kept His word. They know that Jesus is God and everything He says comes from God the Father. He shows they are saved again by saying they received the words and have believed He was sent down by the Father. He prays for His disciples, He does not pray for the world because they are not His children. He has a special love for the disciples and all His children who have trusted Jesus as Lord and Savior. Lastly, He says that all believers belong to the Father and to Him also, and the way He will be glorified in the future is by the way we live here on earth for Him. Send us a text                  Every day we miss the mark on the greatest commandment to Love God like He deserves. He deserves first place in all we do and the way we do it should be pleasing to Him.  The second, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" is quoted from Leviticus 19:18 and is the most often quoted OT command (8 times in the NT), 3 in Matthew alone.  This is one of the most fundamental laws that God has ever given! Who is my neighbor: all people whom I come in contact with and have a chance to help spiritually or contribute to their well-being. Send us a textWho or what is your God?  A god is anything we sacrifice to or for.  We can sacrifice all our time, money, and energy for a job, a hobby, family, or any number of things. These can be good things if put in the proper priority. We need to make sure that God is the only one who has first place in our life. When we have nothing that subtracts from what He wants us to do, life will be as it should be.  Yes, life is still tough, difficult, and holds many dangers and traps, but it will bring the joy, peace, and abundant life in spite of those things if our goal is to show that He and only He is worthy of worship and glory. What is it that is hindering your relationship with God?  If you are worshipping (that is giving all your time, money, or energy) to things that will not bring glory to God you are wasting your life.  Let's covenant today not to do that. Send us a textThe law was given through Moses, but the truth (the law) can only condemn.  It is God alone who can see us for who we really are inside and yet give us the grace that we don't deserve.  Sometimes it is hard to remember that this is true.  Later in Mark 9:24 a man says to Jesus, Lord I believe, help my unbelief.  Do you ask God to help you as this man did to help you daily to trust in Him, to believe His promises, to know that even though you are not perfect and make many mistakes as Peter did, He says to you I have prayed for you that you may not fail? (Luke 22:32) Remember believer, you are His and He will never leave you nor forsake you and nothing can separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. Send us a textThe disciples were alone with Jesus on the mountain of transfiguration in Mark 9 and Matthew 17 and they got a glimpse of who He truly is and heard the Father speak of how He was pleased with Jesus. They were able to hear a word from God and see a glimpse of His true glory only because they were alone with Him on the mountain.  Have you seen Jesus for who He truly is and realized that in Him alone we are to look to for our salvation, comfort, strength, and joy? Such salvation should move God's people to make sacrifices to express their gratitude and to tell other people about the Lord's goodness. Have we cried out to God in desperation and asked Him to heal us and restore us from our sins, and told others how great He is?                                Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving kindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! Send us a textJohn 17:1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 "as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 "I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 "And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.               In this section of Scripture we see Jesus asking the Father to give Him back the Glory which He had before the foundation of the World.  Jesus is God and was never less than God, but He did give up the usage of some of His divine attributes while He was here on earth such as knowing everything that would happen (Omniscience), He gave up the worship He had in Heaven, the infinite riches He had, the Omnipotence – being all powerful, and His ability to be everywhere at the same time as Jesus (Omnipresence). Jesus wanted to and did Glorify the Father by dying on the cross and paying for the sins of all people. He also did this by living a perfect sinless life while here on earth. He also defined eternal life as knowing the true God and Jesus Christ who are one.  Eternal life is not in a place called Heaven, but in a person called Jesus Christ who is God that came in human flesh. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textIn Iconium the Jews and Gentiles tried to stone Paul and Barnabas, so they left as any sensible person would. They didn't want to remain and be stoned or lynched by this mob. It is a wise Christian who always knows when to stand his ground and when to leave for the glory of God. Paul and Barnabas were following the directions the Lord Jesus gave to them and so they left to go to Lystra and Derbe where they began sharing the Gospel again as it says in Acts 14:7. Notice they didn't quit because they were scared, but moved to another location and began again. Are we fearful of what others might think or do to us if we share the Gospel? May God give us boldness such as these men had.                           And there they continued to preach the gospel. Send us a text       Acts 16:40 says A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul. Lydia being a rich woman was another of God's unlikely candidates to get saved to start the Philippian Church. God also saved the cruel gentile jailer and a demon possessed woman. These were the first converts. God used all of them to build a mighty church on the Ignatian Way which was the road which was the lifeline between the Western and Eastern parts of the huge Roman Empire.. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. 16 ¶ "A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father." 17 Then some of His disciples said among themselves, "What is this that He says to us, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?" 18 They said therefore, "What is this that He says, 'A little while'? We do not know what He is saying." 19 Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, "Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'? 20 "Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. 21 "A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 "Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. In this section, Jesus tells them another purpose of the Holy Spirit is to Glorify Him by declaring His Word to them. He then begins to tell them in a little while they will not see Him and then again in a little while they will see Him. This totally confuses the disciples who do not understand this at all. So, Jesus begins to explain it to them by using some terms that show that He is first going to the cross and they will weep and lament, but the world will have joy because they have killed Him. Then when he is resurrected they will have joy because He has died for their sins and overcome death. They will see him for a little while here on earth after He is resurrected, but then they will see Him and be with Him forever in Heaven. So remember, James 4:14, Rom 8:18, and Ps 30:5 Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. This life and it's sorrow will soon be over if we are a Christian and it's only a little while and then we will be with Him in heaven forever with no more tears, sorrow, pain, or anything else to cause us trouble.  AMEN! Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The godly observe this and rejoice, but the unrighteous keep silent. A wise person will reflect on these matters and meditate on God's loyal love. Send us a textJohn 16:9 "of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 "of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 "of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.           In the previous section we learned that Jesus was leaving and when He left He would send the Holy Spirit.  We found out that it would be to the disciples and our advantage that Jesus left because Jesus in His earthly body could only be in one place at a time, whereas the Holy Spirit can be with and live inside each believer at the same time.  Now we find out why it is to our advantage that Jesus leaves and sends the Holy Spirit.  First it is because He will convict the World of their sin, His righteousness, and the judgment that comes if they don't trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  He says that if He has judged the ruler of this world who is Satan, then He will certainly judge us if we don't trust in Him.  We also find out that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and He will guide us into all the truth we need to live this life (2Peter 1:3-4) and things that will happen in the future.  Remember the Holy Spirit is part of the Godhead, the three in one Trinity. He wanted God to exalt Himself over all the earth and to deliver him from his affliction. Have we praised God mightily today for His great love and amazing faithfulness even though we many times are unfaithful? Have we praised Him even in pain and suffering and asked for His deliverance not looking to our own means and ways? Are we praising Him and exalting Him as we should? Send us a textJohn 16:5 "But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are You going?' 6 "But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. We will see in this message that Jesus is telling them He is going away, but the disciples are more concerned with themselves than they are that Jesus will die. They are sorrowful because of their loss, not His dying. Then Jesus tells them it is necessary that He goes away so that the Holy Spirit can come to live in them and through them.  Jesus can only be in one place at a time in His human body, but the Holy Spirit can indwell all Christians at the same time(Romans 8:9) and give us the power to live the Christian life.       Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textI know many today wonder whether God is truly with them and try all kinds of means and methods to get what they want or get out of problems.  It seems like people want don't want to trust God for anything but as a last resort.  God did everything necessary to save you and will be with you.  It is also a great reminder to those of us who are or have been in the path of the storm that all of these things are just things and what is important is knowing the Lord and putting our trust in Him. David was so sure of God that he spoke in Psalm 20:8 as if it had already happened.  The name of the Lord refers to God's character, reputation, and nature.David gained confidence as he reflected on his God. Who do you trust?  God can be trusted.1Jo 2:17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (NKJV)2Sa 22:47 "The LORD lives! Blessed be my Rock! Send us a textIn a time when Pharaoh was killing all of the Jewish children two ordinary Hebrews are obedient to God.  They trust God and put this child who is Moses in a little ark that reminds us of the ark that Noah the first savior of the human race and his family were protected in. God uses these two ordinary people to raise up a redeemer for His people. Moses is a picture of the greater redeemer Jesus. It is pretty ironic in one sense they were obeying Pharaoh's command to throw the children in the river. But it was also God's plan to save Moses and use him to deliver the Israelites from slavery, a picture of our human condition without Christ. God's hand is seen so incredibly in this story. The very people who hate the Israelites become the savior of the one who would destroy their nation and show God is mightier than any of their so called gods and even pay Moses' mother to raise him. Do you and I trust God no matter what?  Do we obey Him even when His commands make no sense to us?  Do we remember that God can use anybody? We need to remember that God knows all and is always working out His Will behind the scenes even when we can't see it.              Exodus 2:1-9 And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river's bank. 4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. 5 ¶ Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. 6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children." 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?" 8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go." So the maiden went and called the child's mother. 9 Then Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages." Send us a textJohn 15:18 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 "If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 "But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. 22 "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 "He who hates Me hates My Father also. 24 "If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father. 25 "But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.' In this section Jesus makes it very clear that if you have trusted Him as your Lord and Savior that the world will hate you because it hated and still hates Him. The people of the world love us if we live like they do in sin, but when we live for God they hate us because we make them feel guilty and look bad. Jesus reminds them that they are His because He first loved them and chose them. He says that we will be persecuted because they even did it to Him and He is both Lord and Creator of everything.  Then He says that the Pharisees and those who have heard His word would not be guilty of willfully rejecting Him if He had not come and revealed Himself.  The principle of the Bible is that we are all guilty and deserving of hell according to Romans Chapters 1:16-3:31, but the more we know about God, the guiltier we become. If we respond to the light or revelation of Christ we have been given, God will show us more about Him (John 7:17). Lastly, He says that you cannot know God and do not love Him if you hate the Son Jesus. Anyone who claims to love God and hates Jesus is a liar. He finishes by saying that people hate Jesus for no reason other than He condemns their sin.  He never did anything wrong that would make them hate Him. 2Ti 3:12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.      Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textMatthew 15:32 says Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way." Again we see Jesus' compassion for this crowd.  The crowds had been standing in line for days to get help from Jesus and were now weak for lack of food. He tests the disciples with an implied let's feed them.  The disciples are thinking in human terms even though they have seen Jesus do many miracles.  So the question is how much food do we have, they answer and Jesus begins to do another great miracle of creation as He feeds 4,000 men, plus women and children and has 7 baskets left over.  This is possibly up to 16,000 people.  Jesus is showing the people that He is the bread of life and whoever comes to Him will never hunger.  Have you had your spiritual emptiness and deepest longings satisfied by the one who will feed us with spiritual food that always satisfies?Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textJesus begins by telling them that He has spoken all these things that we might be full of joy in our lives. Jesus did not come so that we would be miserable, but joyful. Then He commands us to love one another as He has loved us by being willing to lay down our life if necessary. He gave Himself totally and completely because of His great love with which He loved us (Eph 2:4). This is the greatest kind of love that gives everything including our lives. Then He tells us that we are saved (His Friends) if we love like this and whatever else He asks us to do. He also says He will show us what He is doing and we will know the will of the Father and all He the Father has told Him. Lastly, He tells us that He is the one who chose us and did it so that we would bear fruit. Then He repeats the command that we love one another. This is very important that we love one another because we are all a part of each other and God and the Bible says that God is love.     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textIn Matthew 15:7-9 Jesus said "Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 8 'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'" In the time of the prophet Isaiah, the Jewish people followed their religious celebrations to the letter. They showed up at the right time, sacrificed the right amount, and offered many prayers. But when they left the temple, they forgot about God. Nearly 3,000 years later, not much has changed. Do we think our responsibility to God begins and ends with going to church and giving an offering? This attitude makes us more of a burden to God than a blessing. We are not accomplishing the tasks that are important to Him as it says in Isaiah 1:17—doing good, seeking justice, defending the fatherless, and pleading for widows. God is not impressed with a full house at religious gatherings if the people come with empty hearts. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.                In this wonderful section of Scripture we will see that unless we abide we can nothing that God has ordained for us to do. I believe abide first of all means we are saved if we abide in Him and He abides in us, Romans 8:9, John 14:20, 17:23. Then, when we are filled with the Spirit we bear much fruit.  Being filled with the Spirit is talked about in Eph 5:9, 5:18-21, and Col 3:16-23. If we are not saved we are unable to do anything that is a supernatural God work. In other words, if you are saved you know that before you were saved you were unable to change and get rid of those sin areas in your life that plagued you. You also now have an ability to live for God and also do great works in His name (see Mt 5:16, Eph 3:20). The Fruit of the Spirit is spoken of in Gal 5:22, but it also is shown in the passages above where Paul says it will be shown by;1. Speaking about the Word of God (What dominates your thought life)2. Singing and Making Melody in your Heart (Joy) 3. Thankfulness  4. Send us a text  Matthew 14:3-4 says For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. 4 Because John had said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." We need some modern day John the Baptist's who are willing to call sin what it is.  Many today are willing to pander to society and all their so called freedoms.  It is appalling what Christians today or people that call themselves Christians are willing to put up with, cater to or be exposed to in order to be accepted and liked.  The world is not looking for people like them, they see enough of that already, what they are looking for is what the Bible calls in 1 Peter 2:9 a holy people, a set apart people.  People who are different.  If we look like the world do you think non-Christians will want to be saved?  No. Let us live up to our calling to walk worthy of the Lord and that is definitely not a worldly walk.     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textIn today's lesson we will see that Jesus tells us that the people who do not bear fruit are not really saved and He takes them away.  We will see later they are burned in the fire (sent to hell).  He tells us that the true disciples are the ones the Father prunes; they are the ones that bear fruit.  This chapter says very clearly that if you are saved your life will show it by the fruit you bear because you are connected to the True Vine (Jesus).  He also says that they have been washed clean from their sins by the Word of God. (Titus 3:5, Ephesians 5:26-27). He lastly tells us the only way we can produce fruit is if we are connected to the vine and live in a close intimate relationship with him. Send us a textMatthew 13:44-46 says "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 "who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Here we see the kingdom of God described as something that is invaluable and it is worth anything that we might have to pay for it.  The person who really is a child of God knows that and has and will give up anything or everything to go to heaven.  The good news is that it is a free gift and to enter the kingdom all one has to do is to turn from our sins, repent and believe the good news that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and raised to life again on the third day.  To believe means we trust with all we have in us that all of this is true and it is enough to save us and get forgiveness of our sins). Send us a textIn this passage of Scripture which many people have misinterpreted, we will see that Jesus is telling us that He is the true source of our spiritual and physical life. Acts 17:28 "for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'  2Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.  Jesus is the source of it all and the Father is the one who will do the cutting (chastising in our life) when it is needed.  The way a vine produces fruit is by cutting it back and it will produce more.  God does the same thing in our life when He cuts away those unnecessary things out of our life so we can continue to grow in the grace and the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus is talking about two groups of people here.  One is the true Christians who when they are cut on bear more fruit and the false Christians who never bear any fruit.  Mt 7:16 "You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?  17 "Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. 21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textPsalm 17:14-15 says With Your hand from men, O LORD, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes. 15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. David was praying that God would deliver him from wicked men, the people of this world who only live for what they can get and do that brings them pleasure and leave them for their children.  The wicked don't care anything about the spiritual things of God. In contrast David's greatest pleasure and delight was in God and not the things of this world.  David could either be referring to his daily enjoyment in living for God in His presence or the fact that one day David would wake up in heaven and be like Him.  What is it that drives your life?  Do you care about the things of God or what is the most important thing for you?  I hope and pray it is God and the spiritual things that come from knowing Him.     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textJesus started out this passage saying let not your heart be troubled and then begins to tell them what all is going to happen.  He then tells them that he is leaving and they need not be worried because He will take care of them and He will still be with them in another way. Then He finishes the section by telling them the way He will be with them is by sending the Holy Spirit who will teach them and bring to remembrance all things He said to them.  But as they are worrying about all of this still He says my peace I leave you not as the world gives peace and again don't let your heart be troubled.  He says He is their peace and that they need not worry and neither should we.  He says they should rejoice in the fact that He is leaving and going back to heaven.  Plus, He says all of this in advance so that they will know that He knew it was going to happen.  Lastly, He lets them know again for the umpteenth time that He does all of this because He is doing the Father's will.  Will we trust God no matter how hard it gets and rejoice in what He is doing in our lives through the hard times or let them stress us out? V26 His peace is rooted in His Word, v27 Sourced by His Person(My peace I give to you), different from that the world gives, have peace in spite of trouble, v27 Experienced by faith (Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.) Same as He started the Chapter don't have to let it if you trust Him. Send us a text                    Matthew 13:36-39 says His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field." 37 He answered and said to them: "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 "The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 "The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. Jesus explains the parable to His disciples by saying that He is the one who sows the good seed (the Gospel -1 Corinthians 15:3-4).  True believers living in the world are going to be attacked by unbelievers (tares) and they will also try to deceive others into believing they are really saved.  They will try to deceive and destroy true believers by leading them down false roads and infiltrating all the good things true believers are doing.  They will take every opportunity to destroy the testimony of God's people and the work they are doing.  Look around you, many you may know are not really believers.  One famous preacher said he believed if the rapture occurred during church only about 28% of the people would disappear and leave to be with the Lord. The rest are unbelievers. We need to be able to discern the truth by knowing our bibles and when these people try to discourage, destroy, or stop our work for the Lord we should be able to spot them and what they are doing because we know our bible so well.Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a text In this section of Scripture Jesus defines a true Christian as one who keeps His commandments.  He is very clear; those who do not obey Jesus are not really saved no matter how much they go to church or know their Bible, or how many good deeds they do.  This cannot be any more clear.  How many today will say they are going to Heaven but do not live in any way that looks like what a Christian is supposed to be according to the Bible?  Jesus does not say we get to Heaven by doing good works, but that if we are saved we will do them.  Look at James 2:14-17 and Ephesians 2:8-10.  They both say we are saved by faith, but the faith that saves is never alone, it is always accompanied by good works which are the evidence of salvation.  Jesus says this four different times in this passage.  I think he wants us to know that the way we know someone is saved is if they keep His word which is His commandments.  He also tells us that He will send the Holy Spirit to be in us and with us forever.  He will take Jesus place as our encourager and helper in this world.  He also tells us that if we keep His commandments the Father will love us too and He and the Father will come to us and live with us forever since they are coming to make their home with us.  Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.
