The financing of the first edition of the Book of Mormon was a pivotal moment in early Latter-day Saint history, achieved primarily through the significant personal sacrifice of Martin Harris, a wealthy farmer who was one of the Three Witnesses. In 1829, after local printers in Palmyra, New York, initially refused the project, Harris agreed to secure the $3,000 cost—roughly equivalent to over $100,000 today—for the printing of 5,000 copies by Egbert B. Grandin. To guarantee this payment, Harris mortgaged his farm, a decision that followed a revelation given to Joseph Smith (now Doctrine and Covenants Section 19) advising Harris not to covet his property but to "impart it freely" to the printing. We are all familiar with this story but Martin Harris wasn't the only one of Joseph's followers who donated time, resources and money to the Book of Mormon project. Following the money that was used to finance the Book of Mormon can reveal a lot about the motivations of Joseph Smith's most loyal supporters. In this sermon, Wayne Conrad explores the foundational evidence for the identity of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, drawing from the Apostle John's "triple witness" in 1 John 5. Navigating the historical and spiritual controversy surrounding Jesus' claims, the message identifies the three divine testimonies—the water of His baptism, the blood of His crucifixion, and the present-tense witness of the Holy Spirit—which together confirm Christ's true humanity and His finished work of atonement. Listeners are challenged to recognize the spiritual battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil, and to find absolute assurance in the fact that eternal life resides exclusively in the Son. This teaching serves as a call to move beyond doubt and embrace the certainty of God's own testimony, reminding believers that to have the Son is to possess life indeed.

Have you ever wondered why the plan of salvation isn't just a random formula, but rather a profound pattern woven throughout all of Scripture? This powerful teaching from Wednesday, February 4th 2026, Trace Schuh takes us on a journey through the blood, water, and spirit—three witnesses of God on earth that appear from Genesis to Revelation. We discover that what happened on the Day of Pentecost wasn't Peter making up new rules, but rather him recognizing an eternal pattern that stretches back to Noah's ark, the Exodus from Egypt, Elijah's confrontation with the prophets of Baal, and even the layout of the tabernacle itself. Each instance reveals the same divine blueprint: death (blood), burial (water), and resurrection (spirit). When we repent, get baptized in Jesus' name, and receive the Holy Ghost, we're not just following religious tradition—we're literally walking in the footsteps of Christ himself, participating in His death, burial, and resurrection. This message challenges us to see that our salvation experience isn't isolated to the New Testament but is the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan that has existed since the foundation of the world. It's a reminder that we can teach our doctrine from the entire Bible because truth doesn't contradict itself—it echoes through every book, every story, every shadow pointing to the ultimate reality of Jesus Christ.

Send us a textThe ancient biblical law requiring "two or three witnesses" holds revolutionary implications for understanding who God truly is. This enlightening exploration reveals how a seemingly procedural legal requirement from Deuteronomy actually provides powerful evidence for the Trinity while dismantling the false doctrine of modalism.Throughout this theological journey, we examine Jesus's strategic use of this witness principle when He declared, "I am one who bears witness of myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness of me." This statement becomes the perfect refutation of modalism—if Jesus and the Father were the same person merely appearing in different modes, Jesus would have been providing only one witness, not two, making His entire argument collapse. We also uncover surprising insights about Jesus's crucifixion, clarifying that He wasn't executed for blasphemy under Jewish law, but for alleged treason under Roman law—a charge manufactured through political manipulation when Pilate found no fault in Him. The symbolism deepens with Barabbas, whose name literally means "son of the father," being freed while the true Son of the Father was condemned. The witness principle illuminates the beautiful truth that God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—distinct persons sharing one divine essence. This perspective transforms our understanding of Scripture and enriches our worship of the triune God who has revealed Himself through the words and actions of Jesus Christ.Have you considered how other Old Testament laws might similarly reveal deeper spiritual truths about God's nature? Send us a textDive deep into a fascinating exploration of how biblical testimony requirements definitively answer one of Christianity's most contested questions: Are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit distinct persons or merely different expressions of the same being? When Jesus declared, "If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true," He wasn't questioning His own veracity but pointing to something profound about God's nature. Drawing from Deuteronomy's legal principle requiring multiple witnesses to establish truth, this conversation reveals how the Trinity's distinct personhood is woven into Scripture's very framework. The discussion begins with Pilate's interaction with Jesus and the multilingual sign above the cross—showcasing how Christ's message transcends religious, philosophical, and legal worldviews. But the heart of the revelation comes through examining how the Father publicly testified about Jesus at His baptism and Transfiguration, while the Holy Spirit witnessed through the miraculous works Christ performed. This evidence dismantles modalism completely. As one participant colorfully illustrated, modalism is like Bruce Wayne changing into Batman to provide a second testimony—it's still just one witness in different costumes. The biblical requirement for multiple witnesses necessitates that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be distinct persons within the unified Godhead. The implications transform our understanding: we cannot accept one person of the Trinity while rejecting another. When we see how Christ is revealed even in the seemingly mundane legal requirements of Scripture, we gain a deeper appreciation for God's consistent self-revelation throughout His Word.Join us for this mind-expanding conversation that will challenge your thinking and deepen your appreciation for the magnificent complexity of our triune God. How might seeing the Trinity through this lens of witnesses change your relationship with each divine person?Support the show

Send us a textEver struggled to understand or explain the Trinity? You're not alone. This conversation brings remarkable clarity to one of Christianity's most profound doctrines through careful examination of Scripture. The discussion begins with key passages from John's Gospel that illuminate the distinct persons within the Godhead. When Jesus says the Holy Spirit "proceeds from the Father" and "will testify of me," we see clear evidence of distinct personhood within divine unity. These aren't mere theological abstractions but revelations of God's very nature. What makes this conversation especially valuable is how it dismantles common misconceptions about the Trinity. Many Christians inadvertently slip into modalism (thinking God merely changes forms) or tritheism (essentially believing in three gods). The participants gently correct these errors while offering a more accurate understanding: "within the one being that is God, there exists eternally three co-equal persons, namely the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit."The discussion proves particularly helpful for those who encounter objections from groups like Oneness Pentecostals who claim "Jesus is the Father." By examining verses like John 5:22 ("the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son"), the logical impossibility of modalism becomes clear. If Jesus is simply the Father in another form, how can the Father commit judgment to himself in another form?Beyond theological precision, this conversation reveals why the Trinity matters for everyday faith. As one participant beautifully quotes, the Trinity is "the capstone, the summit, the brightest star in the firmament of divine truths." Understanding God as triune transforms our worship and draws us deeper into relationship with each person of the Godhead.Join us for this illuminating discussion that will equip you to better understand, explain, and worship our amazing triune God. How might your relationship with God deepen as you recognize the distinct yet unified work of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in your life?Support the show

He began to have doubts and “stagger in confidence” at the amount of debt he was entering into, whose payback would depend entirely on sales of the Book of Mormon. He was a wealthy and respected farmer in Palmyra. He had repented of his sins and become one of the Three Witnesses, but now he was putting up his farm as collateral and everything was at stake. Understanding 1 John 5:6-8: The Testimony of Water, Blood, and SpiritIn this sermon, Pastor Rich Jensen centered around the profound and often debated verses of 1 John 5:6-8. These verses delve into the testimony of Jesus Christ through water, blood, and the Spirit, and their significance in affirming His divine nature and mission. Here, we explore the key points discussed in the sermon to provide a clearer understanding of these verses and their implications for Christian faith. The Foundation of Faith: Belief in Jesus as the ChristThe sermon begins with a reference to 1 John 5:1-8, emphasizing that belief in Jesus as the Christ is fundamental to being born of God. Loving God and keeping His commandments are intertwined, and these commandments are not burdensome because faith in Jesus overcomes the world. The Testimony of Water and Blood1 John 5:6 states, "This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies because the Spirit is the truth." - **Water**: Symbolizes the beginning of Jesus' ministry, marked by His baptism. At His baptism, the Father testified to Jesus' identity, and the Spirit descended upon Him, signifying His divine mission.- **Blood**: Represents the culmination of Jesus' earthly ministry through His crucifixion. The shedding of His blood was necessary for the remission of sins, fulfilling God's plan for salvation. The Role of the Holy SpiritThe Holy Spirit is introduced as the third witness, testifying to the truth of Jesus' work. The Spirit's testimony is crucial for the church's ministry and the believer's assurance of salvation. Pastor Jensen underscores that the Spirit, water, and blood together provide a comprehensive testimony to Jesus' identity as the Messiah.Perseverance and WitnessesPastor references Hebrews 11 and 12, encouraging believers to persevere by learning from the examples of faithful men and women throughout biblical history. The "great cloud of witnesses" serves as a reminder to lay aside sin and run with endurance, fixing our eyes on Jesus. In summary, this sermon provides a thorough examination of 1 John 5:6-8, affirming the testimony of water, blood, and the Spirit to Jesus' divine nature and mission. This testimony is foundational to the Christian faith, offering assurance and encouraging perseverance. 1 John 5:7-8 For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. These verses summarize the previous verses, so I'll read it again beginning in verse. 6. 1 John 5:6 “This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.” We talked yesterday about how God provided a foundation for faith at two historical events: Jesus' baptism (water) and His death (blood). Jesus, as the Son of God in a human body passed through both of those events according to the Scriptures. The Holy Spirit testifies in agreement with these two witnesses that Jesus is God's Son. The writer of Hebrews echoed these things when he wrote in 2:3-4, “After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.” Let's not miss the connection between this and what John wrote in this letter. The testimony of the Holy Spirit in the children of God is faith and love. This testimony agrees with the water and the blood. The water and the blood testify that God loved the world in sending His Son in human flesh to identify with us and lay down His life for us. The same qualities and characteristics of God's love is completing its course through all believers as a testimony for others to believe. The three testimonies agree that God is love and has sent His Son to be the savior of the world by overcoming the world. Do you get it? Believers are baptized, united with Jesus' death and life. Their faith and love for each other in Christ is a testimony that agrees with Jesus' testimony as God's Son. As you live to love with Jesus, you are a living testimony of the Holy Spirit in this world verifying that Jesus Christ, is the Son of God in the flesh, the savior of the world. This is no insignificant reality. It's that for which we exist. It's the primary reason we are saved and have His life dwelling in us. By this the world will know that God sent His Son and that we are His disciples. I hope this encourages you to take up the call to live to love with Jesus with all seriousness, intentionality, and joy. If the live to love scripture encouragements have been encouraging to you, would you please share it with your friends on social media and in your community? God's Spirit is at work, and as we work together, we can plant the seeds and advance God's kingdom on the earth. I hope you'll visit www.livetolovewithjesus.com and share the resources there with those in your church and circle of relationships.

He encourages us to stand firm in our faith, live a life that defends our faith, and humbly learn how to better articulate and defend our beliefs when facing opposition or skepticism, as God has given us all we need to maintain our confidence in Christ.

"He comes back and he doesn't know everything, he doesn't know the doctrine super well. But he has a powerful testimony that he can bear and he can share with people. A little while later he and some of the brethren in Salt Lake decide to go on a carriage ride up the eastern bench of the mountains. They decide to pull the curtains on the carriage so that they can see out the window and see the view. And when that happens, Martin sees the valley lying before him, he sees everything that's been built up, and all the saints and how large of a population is out there, and he is just stunned by it. Martin's been spending all his time in this little podunk town, Kirtland, where there's hardly anyone who will take him seriously and listen to his testimony. Then he has this reaction where he says, 'who would have thought the Book of Mormon could do all this?'" https://archive.bookofmormoncentral.org/author/Rappleye,%20Neal https://knowhy.bookofmormoncentral.org/tags/martin-harris https://evidencecentral.org/evidence/martin-harris https://witnessesofthebookofmormon.org/three-witnesses/martin-harris/ https://www.plantwhys.com/free-1-week-meal-guide

For decades, the common misconception was there had been no witnesses to this double homicide. Yet, there were people living in the street who saw and heard things on the night Susan and Suzanne died and in the days that followed that could have proved significant. One was right next door. Mary Bush, Freeman Hrabowski, and Condoleezza Rice grew up and were classmates together in segregated Birmingham, Alabama, in the late 1950s and early '60s. After taking a brief visit with Rice to her childhood home, we gather them again for a second conversation in Birmingham's Westminster Presbyterian Church, where Rice's father was pastor during that period. In this second part of our interview, the three lifelong friends further recount what life was like for Blacks in Jim Crow Alabama and the deep bonds that formed in the Black community at the time in order to support one another and to give the children a good education. They discuss how they overcame the structural racism they experienced as children to achieve incredible successes as adults. Lastly, they discuss their views on the recent reckoning with racism in today's culture and weigh in on the 1619 Project and other social programs.

Mary Bush, Freeman Hrabowski, and Condoleezza Rice grew up and were classmates together in segregated Birmingham, Alabama, in the late 1950s and early '60s. We reunited them for a conversation in Birmingham's Westminster Presbyterian Church, where Rice's father was pastor during that period. The three lifelong friends recount what life was like for Blacks in Jim Crow Alabama and the deep bonds that formed in the Black community at the time in order to support one another and to give the children a good education. They also recall the events they saw—and in some cases participated in—during the spring, summer, and fall of 1963, when Birmingham was racked with racial violence, witnessed marches and protests led by Dr. Martin Luther King, and was shocked by the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church. The latter event resulted in the deaths of four little girls, whom all three knew. The show concludes with a visit to a statue of Martin Luther King Jr. erected in Kelly Ingram Park—where in 1963 Birmingham's commissioner for public safety Bull Connor ordered that fire hoses and attack dogs be used on protestors. There, Condoleezza Rice discusses Dr. King's legacy and his impact on her life.

From Come Follow Me:      "Before you even get to 1 Nephi chapter 1, you will notice that the Book of Mormon is no ordinary book. Its introductory pages describe a backstory unlike any other—including visits from angels, an ancient record buried for centuries in a hillside, and a young man translating the record by the power of God. The Book of Mormon is not just a history of ancient American civilizations. It seeks to convince all “that Jesus is the Christ” (title page of the Book of Mormon), and God Himself directed how it was written, preserved, and made available to us. This year, as you read the Book of Mormon, pray about it, and apply its teachings, you will invite the Savior's power into your life. And you may feel moved to say, as the Three Witnesses did in their testimony, “It is marvelous in [my] eyes.”(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  For additional information or official statements, please visit the website below. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/?lang=eng)#biblestudy #oldtestament #religion #churchofjesuschrist #ldspodcast #christianpodcast #missionary #lds #biblestories #christ #faith #faithinchrist #scriptures #bookofmormon #temples #houseofthelord #mormon #mormonbeliefs #christiansandmormons #god #endure #ironrod #faithineveryfootstep #generalconference #prophets #followtheprophet #commandments #love #service #charity #keepstriving #keeponstriving #gospelgrowthandgoodtimes #become #newtestamentSupport the show:www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouthSupport the show
