He says we didn't become Christians to be put again in a spirit of fear. That 2 Timothy 1.7 talks about that. He hadn't given us a spirit of fear, but a power and might and a sound mind. 1st John 4:18 says there's no fear in love but perfect love cast out fear because fear involves torment but he who fears has not been made perfect in love in other words we don't have to be afraid we don't have to worry we talked about this last week that the worst that can happen to us on earth is the worst it will ever be but once we pass out of this world it's gonna be better than we can ever imagine. Basically what God spoke to me that day (through the Word), and he says, Marty, You step out in the water, you step out and hire this guy, and then I'll take care of the finances. I'm going to part the water, right? And that's what he said, and that's what he did. I often pray stuff like that, Lord, don't let me get out of your will. Keep me in the center of your will, right? We are led by the Spirit of God, and when we live according to His will, and we let Him lead us, then... We know that we're the children of God, right? That's one of the ways we know that we're a child of God is because we have the Spirit speaking to us and He leads us and He guides us. That word sanctification means to be set apart. It means to become more and more like God. In other words, when we trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, before we were saved, Now, I know all of us didn't get down the road, but we look, you know, you look at people and how bad and how sinful some people are, right? But by the grace of God, that could have been any of us because any of us are capable of that.             But you could also take the reverse and say, imagine the worst thing that could ever happen here on earth to you and multiply it by infinity, and that's how bad hell's going to be.             But all debts were canceled when you got adopted. If you were a criminal all charges were dropped. You could not legally be put to death by your new father. Did you know what? That the Roman father, he had the right to do anything he wanted to with his family. He could kill his wife. He could kill his kids. He could do anything he wanted to. He could kill his kids. But this adopted kid, he could not kill him. He could not kill him. And they could not be disinherited. He could disinherit his real family, but he couldn't disinherit the one that was adopted. So once they were adopted, they permanently, officially, and permanently became the heir. The irony of fallen man's dilemma is that he doesn't even realize his condition until after he is saved. Lost men, blinded & deceived by Satan, think they are really “living it up,” when in reality they are dead. They think that by living in sin they are enjoying life to its fullest, but they are not.             Those in the nursing home facilities are locked up in bodies that do not work and a wheelchair and a bed. We minister to children and youth who are locked up because of behavioral problems. Some have told us we want to have a real family because their parents have lost or given up custody of them. Other kids are locked up because they've committed crimes. We also minister to those locked up at the jails and the prisons, to those locked up in addictions to drugs, alcohol, depression, and suicidal thoughts, to those locked up in a variety of other things that keep them from becoming who Jesus wants them to be. Our desire is to show them whatever their background, no matter what they've done, to see how much God loves them. We seek to help them receive forgiveness and freedom from their sin in Jesus Christ. Send us Fan MailThe whole section from verse 1-14 tells us everything He does is to the praise of His glory.  We see in this section today how to be saved.  You hear, you trust in the Gospel and having believed you are sealed with the Holy Spirit until the day He comes back to get us.  There are 5 great things that come with being Sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.  The sealing work of the Spirit is mentioned 2 other places in the Scripture, 2Corinthians 1:22 and Ephesians 4:301.    A seal on a legal document means it is a finished contract or transactionYou know what the seal means? We are not in the process of getting saved. When you put your faith in Jesus Christ God gave you the Holy Spirit and said - That is a finished transaction.2.    It means security and protection.. We are secure in Christ - Hebrews 6:19 3.  Authenticity… It' real, we are a genuine child of God - Ro 8:9When God gives us His Holy Spirit He is saying this is an authentic child of the King. The only authentic Christian is the one who possesses the Holy Spirit, who's sealed with a mark of authenticity.  4. Ownership…He owns us - 1Co 6:19-205.  Authority and power - Read the the eighth chapter of Esther. Esther wanted the king to settle a certain issue. So she said, Okay, you make the edict, king, and you sign it with your seal and we'll carry it out. And so they're walking around with this letter from the king. And it's a sign of authority.             What does that mean? It was weak through the flesh. In other words, we on our own cannot get to heaven because our flesh is weak, right? I mean, even a little baby. Sins, right? We always like to think of those little babies as sweet and innocent. But what do you do? You tell them not to stick their finger in the light socket or touch something that's hot or don't take that from somebody. And what do they do? They look at you and they dare you and they go, I'm going to get it. And they look at you to see what you're going to do, right? That's sin.             And so at that point, the moment we believe in Him, The Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us and we belong to Jesus Christ. And there is therefore now no condemnation. And the verse doesn't say no mistakes, no failures, nor even no sins. Because you know what, as Christians we do fail, we do fall, we do mess up. Abraham lied, David committed adultery, Peter tried to kill a man. We know Christians aren't perfect, right? We are forgiven. That is the good news. Because guess what? The inspiration of Scripture. It says that no man wrote Scripture on his own, but it was God breathed. It was inspired by the Holy Spirit, right? The Holy Spirit inspired men to write the Word of God. We talked about His salvation. He resurrects. Romans chapter 8 verse 11 talks about that verse. He says, But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. You know, one day the Holy Spirit is going to resurrect us, right? It says in Romans 1.4 that Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power from the Holy Spirit because he had the spirit of power. I also put Jesus... Mary's womb and Matthew chapter 1 verse 20 Joseph is thinking about Mary being pregnant and it says while he thought about these sayings behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying Joseph son of David do not be afraid to take to you marry your wife for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit and That Jesus was deposited in the womb of Mary by the Holy Spirit, right? He has attributes. He's holy. To lie to him is to lie to God. He's the spirit of holiness. He's omniscient. Send us Fan MailThink about Lazarus. Lazarus was dead. Jesus basically propels him out of the grave because I think he was wrapped like a mummy, you know, like they wrapped him. So he couldn't have really, he'd have been doing like this trying to get out of the grave, right? Trying to hop to get out of the grave. He couldn't have done that, but God propels him out of the grave. And when he comes out, what did he say? Loose him and let him go. Now think about Lazarus. He's been in the grave four days. You can imagine the heat out here today. It's going to be out there today. It's even hotter, I think, in Israel. Alright, four days worth of being in a grave. No embalming, no anything. I mean, you ride by a little old squirrel or a raccoon or something on the side of the road and you got your windows open or your vents open and it about knocks you down. You can imagine four days of a person. He says, take these old dirty, stinky grave clothes off of him. And he says, loose him and let him go. And when he says loose him and let him go, it's a picture of us being a slave to sin. We're dead. And when Jesus propels us out of the grave and we trust him, all of a sudden he lets us loose and we take off all those dirty, stinky sins that are a stench in the nostrils of a holy God. is what it's a picture of. Send us Fan MailEph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace         The first great act of redemption in the Old Testament is the exodus, the deliverance of the nation Israel from her bondage in Egypt. Redemption is an act of God by which He Himself pays as a ransom the price for sin which has outraged His holiness. It means to pay a price to free somebody from bondage. Every person in the world is a slave in their sinful state. No man is free. And to whom are they slaves? Who is the captor? John 8:34 says, "Men are slaves to sin." Romans 6:17 says, "Men are servants to sin." Romans 7:14; "Sold under sin." Romans 8:21; "In bondage to corruption." What is the captor of men? Sin. Sin demands a price to be paid to release its victim. The price or the wage of sin is death. So in order to purchase sinners from the grasp of sin there must be death. Hebrews 9:22 The soul that sinneth, the Old Testament says, it shall die. All right, the wages or the price of sin is death. Jesus paid the price to set us free. They wanted to go back to Egypt instead of going to the promised land. Because the promised land, remember, it's work to trust Christ. It's hard to trust Him every day to put the sin away and live for God in a sense. But you know what? The first 3 chapters describe all of them. We will talk about three of those blessings today.  First we have been chosen by God so that He could make us holy and without blame, next we have been adopted as sons and have become part of the family of God, and lastly we have been accepted in Jesus Christ the Beloved because of what He did on the cross.  To be accepted means we now are approved of by God.  Before we were sinners not able to come into His presence and now we can because we are now saints in the eyes of God because Jesus blood shed on the cross took away all of our sins.Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Listen, the God who created me and you and everybody else and everything else, He wrote down in a book the things He wanted us to know. This is His love letter to us and how to get to heaven and how to trust Him. And he says, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. He didn't say do this, do that, and the other. He said believe. That's why we got a chapter in Hebrews that the whole chapter is about faith. By faith, by faith, by faith. What is faith? Taking God at His word, believing and trusting in him, right? God, I believe that you sent your Son. I want to trust in Him. Forgive me. save me I can't do anything to get there on my own but you paid it all.                 Sin can even use the law of God and pervert it and twist it so that we end up in a bad place. Men are so evil that instead of realizing the holy purposes of God's law, they slam themselves against it. They're deceived. That's the wretchedness of sin. The sin perverts the law. It twists it and it brings forth death because people rebel against it.                 And I think I'll talk about this later on, but they didn't kill Jesus because anything bad he did. But he told them they couldn't continue the way they were living and they weren't going to heaven by practicing the law. And they didn't want him telling them what to do. They didn't want him to tell them they were wrong because these Pharisees, man, they were the... They were it. They were the power people. They were the mighty people. They were it. Man, if you were a Pharisee, you was the top dog. You were the muckety-muck, the powers that be. You were it. Because there was only 6,000 of those people when Paul was around. These guys, you know, they didn't want to be told they were doing anything wrong. And really, you know, the 10th commandment, thou shalt not covet, is really the sum of all the other commandments because that's where it all starts. This is really the commandment that starts it all because that's the commandment that what happened in the Garden of Eden. There was one tree that God says you cannot have. And the devil come along and said, hey, did God say? And she saw it was good for food. It was pleasant to the eyes. And it was desirable to make one wise. And the law kind of lays out that here's the spiritual minefield you need to watch out for. you wouldn't want somebody to not put a sign out there on the road that says bridge out or elevator out and you open up the door and you step through and you know, wow, okay, you know, well, there went Marty, stand to him, you know, drove off the bridge and there's no bridge there, right? The law is complete. The law provides a penalty. But guess what? The law is impossible to keep. It's impossible to keep. The law is also weak, and that's why Jesus had to come down on the cross, right? It says in Romans 8, 3, For what the law could not do, and that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh. I know that's kind of confusing. But we died to the law. We died to the law and it no longer has dominion over us. But we're not lawless. Because guess what? We're united to Christ. We're sharing his life. And thus we're walking in newness of life. Romans 8.4 says that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us. Who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit. Living for God, he says, the fruit of the spirit is what? Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness. Meekness, faith, difference. That's not fruits, but that's fruit. That's one thing that happens. We get all of those things when we live for Jesus. And those don't happen naturally. I mean, you don't see a fruit tree and when it grows, there's an apple. You know, straining to make an apple. But when you just trust God and follow Him, you just naturally produce fruit, right? And that's what he's saying here is that so many times people want to try to just set these rules and standards and we come up with a list of do's and don'ts, of do's and don'ts, do's and don'ts. And we hold ourselves and everybody else to this standard. But instead of trying to live by those rules, Let's just love the one who died for us and then we'll serve him and live for him because we want to. And then we'll do what's right. That's what he's saying there. And he's not trying to say that we don't live for God. But like I said, when there's a legalistic, you gotta do this, you gotta do that, you're gonna fight it. But when there's a love behind what you're doing, you're gonna do it because you want to. Because we have served a new, have a new husband. We are the bride. That we were slaves to sin. And we didn't have any choice. But the moment we trust Christ and we begin to live for him, we become voluntary servants. We become voluntary slaves.
