             God has only one way of doing things, that is the way He prescribes.  Oftentimes we try to accomplish God's will using whatever methods we think best or worst of all we do it like the world would do it.  When God wants something done He wants it done the way He says and if not then it will not accomplish His will.  I remember a guy who told me one day he was glad I was not telling him it was my way or the highway.  I told him that a person who designs something makes it to work only one way and it will not work if it is done any other way.  It is the same with God, He designed things a certain way, gave us the instruction book (the Bible) to tell us how to do it and the Holy Spirit to guide us and lead us.  So, I told him it was never my way, I was only trying to teach what the Bible said, it is God's way or the highway, anything else is not right.  Which highway are we on, ours or God's? Send us a text          Matthew 25:14-19 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 "And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 "Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 "And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 "But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord's money. 19 "After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.'             God gives each of us time, talent, and money that we are to use for the expansion of His Kingdom. In times past some had considerable responsibility and authority as some do today.  Others are not gifted in such a way as to be able to do all the things others do, but are still expected to use what they have to the best of their ability.  God expects us to become His children, trust Him, and use all that He gives us in such a way that it will bring glory to Him and bring others to Christ.  We have to ask ourselves are we first of all a child of the King?  Then we have to ask are we using all that God has given us in such a way that we can hear what was said in Matthew 25:21 "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.                  In 2 Samuel Chapters 3-5 we see how David grows stronger and stronger and eventually becomes the King over all of Israel and rules for 40 years.  It was not God's plan for them to have a king, but if they were to have a king it should be a man like David who wanted to please God.  He was very flawed and made many mistakes, but God used him anyway as He does with us.  The reason David grew stronger and stronger was because God was behind it all.  When a man, a ministry, or a church is the plan God is going to use to do His will there is no use in anyone trying to stop it.  God's plans can never be thwarted and He will accomplish what He wants.  He will use us as long as we are available and seeking His will for our lives. It is amazing the people that God uses to do His will, most of whom are not thought of as the people that God would use.  Are we one of those people who God wants to use?  Are we seeking Him with our whole heart and desiring His will for our lives and the lives of His people? Let us seek Him today and see what He wants to do in our lives and those around us.            2 Samuel 3:1 Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. Send us a textIt's the Christmas Season again, so lets not forget with all that the world will throw at us in the way of materialism, that Jesus is the reason for the season.  In Acts 20:35 Paul said, "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak.  And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" Send us a textOn this first day of the week Mary goes to the tomb & seeing the stone has been moved decides that they have stolen the body of Jesus. She goes & gets Peter & John & they come running. John glances in, Peter looks a little harder & is puzzled because he sees the grave wrappings lying there in their proper place. This day that seems to be the worst ever in that not only has Jesus died, but they have stolen His body too. It is actually the best day ever because this is the day that Jesus rose from the grave, proved He was God, & showed that He had done everything necessary to pay for the sins of the whole world. This is the Good News, the Gospel (1Corinthians 15:3-4).            Here we see the secret disciples come forward when all the others have forsaken Jesus. They come at the perfect time so the last of the prophecies can be fulfilled Isaiah 53:9. Jesus gets a burial fit for a King with 100 pounds of very expensive spices, because He is King Jesus & one day will come back to rule & reign. They are running out of time to get Jesus in the grave before the Sabbath starts & so the 3 days & 3 nights can be fulfilled. They use the closest available tomb which happens to be Joseph of Arimathea's. It is done, it is finished, all that is left is for Jesus to come out of the grave & show that He is truly God as if all the miracles He has done is not enough. Send us a text          Jesus said in Matthew 24:42-46 "Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. Verse 42 applies all that Jesus said beginning in verse 32. His disciples need to remain watchful because the exact time of the His return is unknown even though signs of His coming will point out His approach. Jesus continued instructing His disciples but here He stressed the importance of caution and faithfulness as He prepared them for His return. This is a warning for us to be ready for the Lord Jesus to come back.  He could come at any time for His church. Then the Great Tribulation will start and when He comes some will be those who are Christians and are carrying out His will while they wait for His return.  These are the ones who will receive a reward when He comes back.  He goes on in the next verses to describe the unbeliever (unsaved) person who is doing whatever they want to do and will experience God's wrath when He comes back.  Which one are you?          Matthew 24:42-46 "Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 "But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. 45 "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? 46 "Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.       Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.               In Luke 22 we see Jesus telling the disciples all that they would go through leading up to and after His death on the cross.  He also says that they will deny Him. Peter says he will never do that, but will die for Jesus.  We know that Jesus says Peter will deny Him 3 times and then will be strengthened through the prayers of Jesus to come back and be the leader again of the disciples.  Lastly, we see Peter along with the rest of the disciples is sleeping while Jesus is praying to the Father about going to the cross.  Jesus tells them to rise and pray lest they enter into temptation.  So, we see Peter and the rest of the disciples deserting Jesus and Peter especially fails as Jesus predicted. Why is this?  Because they did not do what they should have been doing, Praying! Why do we fail, because we are instructed to pray to God to not let us be tempted and to pass the test when they do come.  The Bible over and over says we will be tempted, but God will give us the strength to endure if we will only ask and be prepared for those times.  Are we praying and are we prepared?  What verses do you have memorized to help you when the devil comes with his lies and deceit?  That is what Jesus did when tempted, He used the scriptures.  Let us be always ready and not fail and fall when temptation comes our way. Luke 22:31-34,46 And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 "But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." 33 But he said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death." 34 Then He said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.", 46 Then He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Send us a textIn Matthew 24:35 Jesus said "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Jesus was telling His disciples what the signs would be before He would come back and all the things that would happen.  Then He tells them of the certainty of all this happening with the words in this verse.  With these words He is claiming that all of His predictions have the same authority and legitimacy as God's words because He is God.  It says in Hebrew 1:1-2 God, who at different times and in many ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son (Jesus), whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; Do you trust the scriptures and what is said in them?  You should, God has spoken and we need to have ears to hear and also be doers of the word.  Let us be diligent to do this today and every day.          Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.        Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a textThe final prophecy is fulfilled as Jesus says I thirst. He has completed everything else & then He fulfills one last Scripture. He says it is finished & gives up His spirit. This is an accounting term that means your debt has been paid in full. Jesus paid for all our sins on the cross. He suffered 3 hours spiritually when it was dark & He was taking our hell for us as our substitute during that time period. There is nothing left for you & I to do but to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ & thou shalt be saved Acts 16:31. Have you done that? Send us a textJohn 19:24 They said therefore among themselves, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be," that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: "They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots." Therefore the soldiers did these things. 25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" 27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.                We see more Scripture being fulfilled through Jesus and all that He does and has done to Him while on the cross. These cold callous soldiers are gambling for His garments as He is on the cross suffering the most cruel death ever devised up to that time.  All they can see is we are getting some material goods out of this deal.  Meanwhile Jesus is paying for the sins of the whole world. There are 4 soldiers who are cruel and they are contrasted by 4 loving women who have been there for Jesus and still are as He dies. The last thing Jesus does as He is dying is to give us the example to take care of the widows. He tells His mother to treat John as her son and for John to take care of His mother as if she was his own.        Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a text2 Timothy 2:15-16 says Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. I believe it is easier today for people to be deceived even though we have so much access to Bibles, study materials, and sermons because people in most cases don't avail themselves of the resources that are available.  Yes, you have to be discerning in who you listen to and where you get your study materials because there are so many out there that are out in left field where the Bible is concerned.  Many preachers today are not preaching the Bible word for word and taking the time to explain things to their congregations.  It is getting harder and harder to find a church with a preacher like that.  But in spite of all that it is our job to find the best church we can and support it or start one that we can support.  It is also our job to make sure we know what we believe and why we believe it.  With all that is out there we have no excuse.  If you need some help I will be glad to guide you to some people and places where you can know you are being taught correctly. Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you.       Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.                 In Luke 21 right after the woman gives in the temple, the disciples comment on the beauty of the temple and Jesus begins to tell them that the temple and all will be destroyed.  He gives them the signs of what is going to happen and a way to determine it is coming.  He tells them that we need to persevere as Christians during these difficult times and not to fail and fall because of the difficulties.  He then tells them that all of these things, that is all He has created will pass away, but His word the Bible and all that He spoke to them will never fail or go away.  In all the difficulties that seem to be getting worse and worse, aren't you thankful that you can trust in the Word of God?  It is like the little boy who was reading a book and the hero was in trouble and his mother called him to lunch.  He said hold on a minute and he looked to the end of the book and saw that the hero was okay.  We too can turn to the end of the Bible and read it and know that it will turn out exactly like Jesus (God) said it would and trust in Him that all will be okay in the end.  Amen! “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. Send us a text          Psalm 26:2-4 says Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart. 3 For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, And I have walked in Your truth. 4 I have not sat with idolatrous mortals, Nor will I go in with hypocrites. Have we done as David did and invited the Lord to examine our innermost motives, thoughts, and what we stand for? David did and could say before the Lord and others that he knew how loving the Lord is. He could also say that he had walked in a proper manner according to God's word. David knew he was not guilty of what others had said about him and he asked God to vindicate him.  David had not been hanging out with the immoral and hypocritical people and making a mockery of who God is.  Can we ask God as David did to search us and try us and see if there is any wicked way in us knowing that it is not so? Send us a textIn a 24‑hour period leading up to and including His death on the cross there were 28 specific Old Testament prophecies fulfilled to the letter, and in addition to that, there were many types fulfilled. When Jesus came to earth, He fulfilled over 300 prophecies and the probability that one Person could do this is impossible, unless you are God as Jesus is. Jesus is placed in the center as He is the focus of attention. It is amazing how many three's there are in the Bible. There are three being crucified and three titles for Jesus over His head which are actually the crime He was being killed for. The three titles are written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin to show that all of us are guilty of sin and thus all of us put Jesus on that cross, meaning we all need a Savior. The Jews get upset about the title 'The King of the Jews', but Pilate is really telling us who Jesus really is.  Have you trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior?  If not, why not today?  Rom 10:9-13 - Ro 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.              This familiar story in Luke 21 gives us a few things we should take away from it.  First, it is not how much you give, it is the heart with which you give it.  Secondly, did that gift you gave cost you anything?  In other words, was it something that you sacrificed or gave up to give? Thirdly, we see that the system was set up so that it literally trumpeted the amount someone was giving as the money flowed down the tube making noise.  I still believe the Bible teaches that we should give God at least 10% of everything we have including our time and abilities.  So, I guess the question is what do we do with our time, abilities, and money?  Are we giving God all that we should because we love Him and want to honor and serve Him with all that we have? If not, why not? Send us a textThe Jews have backed Pilate into a corner at this point. It is a matter of Jesus claiming to be King and there can be only one King in Rome. He can either save his soul or his life. If He turns Jesus loose, he loses his life, if He crucifies Him, it will be his soul. So, Pilate asks where Jesus is from, but Jesus knows it is too late for Pilate, he has already said he doesn't care about truth and so He does not answer him. It is a bad place to be when you have rejected God for so long, that He refuses to speak to you anymore. Pilate lets Jesus know that he is powerful and can let him go or he can have him crucified and Jesus speaks one more time. He lets Pilate know that He only has power because God has granted it to him. Then He lets Pilate know that his sin is less than that of the one who delivered Jesus up and I believe He is speaking about Judas. The Bible speaks of degrees of sin and degrees of reward. Hell won't be the same for everyone, just as Heaven won't. The Gospel and Justification The Gospel is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16). All have sinned and are guilty before God (Chapters 1-3). David and Abraham were justified by faith, not by works (Chapter 4). Justification provides 11 benefits of trusting Christ (Chapter 5). Emphasis on the love and grace of God in sending Christ for sinners. Justification by Faith Verse 1: Justification brings peace with God through Jesus Christ. Justification refers to being declared righteous, as if one never sinned. It is a once-for-all verdict based on faith in Christ. Benefits of Justification Peace with God Trusting Christ ends the war between God and humans (James 4:4). Believers can find peace in all situations (Philippians 4:6-7). Access to God Believers have been ushered into the presence of God (Ephesians 2:18). This access signifies safety and an ongoing relationship with God. Standing before God Believers enjoy a secure position in God's grace (Ephesians 2:13). They hold a privileged status as God's special people. Rejoicing in Hope Christians boast in the hope of God's glory, unlike worldly boasting. Hope is a confident expectation grounded in faith. Glory in Tribulations Believers can rejoice in trials as they lead to growth and strength. Difficulty does not negate hope or promise of glory in the future. Growth Through Trials Tribulations produce perseverance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-4). Character is developed through testing, akin to refining metal. Hope remains firm because of God's love, which the Holy Spirit has poured into believers' hearts (Romans 5:5). The Love of God God's love is given to believers through the Holy Spirit. This love provides strength during trials and tribulations. The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit indicates salvation and provides peace and strength. Transition from faith to hope to love is significant in the believer's life. Christ's Sacrifice Christ died for helpless sinners, showing God's love (Romans 5:6-8). His love was demonstrated while believers were still in sin. Pardon from Wrath Justification changes a believer's status (righteous) and state (becoming more like Christ). If God justified sinners, he is certainly able to save them from future wrath (Romans 5:9-10). Argument of 'how much more' is used to emphasize the assurance of salvation and reconciliation with God through Christ. Before We Were Enemies with God We have reconciliation with God through Jesus' death and atoning work. Reconciliation focuses on restoring the relationship between two previously opposing parties. Colossians 1:19-22 emphasizes that we were once alienated and enemies but are now reconciled through Jesus' death. The passage stresses that we are the offending party, not God. Human hostility towards God is active and personal, despite professing love for Him. Salvation Through Christ's Life We are saved not only by Jesus' death but also by His resurrection. Hebrews 7:25 states that Jesus intercedes for us, saving those who come to God through Him. Paul discusses how, if we were reconciled as enemies, we will be completely saved by Christ's resurrected life. Salvation is present and future because Christ is alive and actively saving us. Joy in God and from God Habakkuk 3:18 encourages rejoicing in the God of salvation. Our joy comes from God's grace, not our own merit (Psalms 45:7). Believers can rejoice now due to reconciliation, which brings about a relationship with God characterized by righteousness and life. Romans 14:17 explains the kingdom of God involves righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Rejoice in God In light of present circumstances (Romans 5:1-5): We have peace with God now. We have a sure hope. In light of the foundation of salvation (Romans 5:6-8): Human love is fickle. God's love is sacrificial. In light of the bright future (Romans 5:9-11): We will not face God's wrath. We will be saved by His life. We have reconciliation now. Illustration: Clarity in God's Message Fog can obscure our view and make us feel isolated. Historical example of British troops misunderstanding a message during a fog: initial message was despairful but later revealed victory. Similar misinterpretations occurred with the message of Jesus' death. Romans 8:37 reminds us we are more than conquerors through Christ's love, urging us to live in His power. Conclusion Chapter 5 of Romans emphasizes faith, love, access to God, and the hope found in the Gospel.   What are your eyes fixed on?                  In Psalm 73 we see the writer has taken his eyes off of God and put them on the world and what he perceives is going on.  It is easy sometimes to look around and see what the wicked are doing and it looks like everything is going their way and they are living the good life in spite of the evil they do. They reject God and think that He cannot and will not do anything to them for the way they are living. This Psalmist was not looking in the right place as we often don't either.  He finally goes into the temple of God and is shown the end of these wicked people.  He sees that it might look like they have it all now, but unfortunately this is the best that it will ever be for them.  They may get it all now, but pay later as the Midas commercial used to say.  You can pay me now or you can pay me later.  We who trust in Christ may suffer for following Him now, but it will be worth it all in the end as Romans 8:18 says, For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. The Psalmist is ashamed of himself for thinking all of these things and doubting the goodness of God.  Let us not be like this Psalmist who got his eyes on the world and was disillusioned, but let us be like him in the last part of the Psalm where he says in verses 25-26 Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. 26 My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Amen!!           Surely God is good to Israel, To those who are pure in heart! Send us a textHere we see how the Romans would pacify the Jews by releasing someone convicted of crimes to them on the Passover.  Pilate hopes he can finally get Jesus set free and His blood off his hands.  But the Jews have outmaneuvered Pilate again and they have told the crowd to ask for Barabbas the robber.  Pilate scourges Jesus, mocks Him, puts a crown of thorns on His head, and a Kingly purple robe on Him and yet the crowd still will not feel sorry for Jesus, they want him killed.  He finally tells them to behold the Man, in other words look at this pitiful fellow, don't you want Him to be released and they cry out Crucify Him, Crucify Him.  Then for the second time Pilate tells them I find no fault in Him.  Jesus has done nothing wrong for Him to be convicted of and especially crucified, so Pilate says if you want Him crucified, you do it. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. In Luke 20 Jesus has upset the religious atmosphere of the temple and therefore the leaders question His authority.  He then tells one of the more familiar parables about the owner of the vineyard who keeps sending people to get some of the fruit.  This is a picture of God sending prophet after prophet to Israel to get them to do what is proper in leading the people in a right way to God.  They keep killing the prophets and finally they kill the owner's son who is a picture of Jesus being killed. We might not be in danger today, but when we stand up for the truth when a church or leader starts to go astray we might be called heresy hunters or trouble makers.  When that happens we know that things have gone extremely wrong.  In other countries they do kill those who tell the truth about Jesus and one day they might lock us up, take what we own away, or even kill us if we don't begin to stand up for the truth today.  There is a famine in the land for the truth Isaiah 59:4 No one calls for justice, Nor does any plead for truth. They trust in empty words and speak lies; They conceive evil and bring forth iniquity. We must take a stand now.  Ultimately Jesus will crush those who go against Him and His people and in the end He wins, but God will hold us responsible for failing to stand up for HIS TRUTH. Send us a textExodus 23:29-31 says "I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beast of the field become too numerous for you.  30 "Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land. 31 "And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. I believe these verses have a second application for us today in that it speaks of how God works in our life in using us in ministry and His will for our life.  He doesn't tell us all He wants us to do at one time, but asks us to do things one at time until we get to the ultimate goal of His will for our life.  God doesn't show us all of His will at one time as one guy said I wished He did and gives us steps one-10, but I believe this would probably scare most of us to death, but keeps giving us tasks and as we step out and do them He gives us another.  If you don't do step one you can't ever see His will for step two and so on.  We have to obediently step out as God shows us His will and we will end up where He wants us.  Is this your desire?     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.           In 1 Samuel chapters 9-10 we saw Saul looking for donkeys and Samuel the prophet had been sent by God to find the man selected by Him to be King.  Who should he find but Saul who was physically impressive, tall, and handsome. At this time, he would have been in his late 20s (cf. 13:1). Isn't this what we always look for in a leader?  God gave the people just what they wanted. Unfortunately, we often look for the qualities we think are important in leaders, but God has different ideas on what they should be. We look at all the things people seem to be and God looks at the heart (1Samuel 16:7).  David was not the man they would have picked to be their leader, but God knew what was inside of him and picked David because of that. Are we guilty of doing this with people, especially those we look to inside the church to be the ones who lead us and guide us in the most important area of our life?  We need to make sure of what is on the inside before we pick leaders and make sure what is inside of us is right with God too. Are the qualities we have the ones God looks for or are they the ones that make us what the world wants to see?                   1Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. Send us a textExodus 23:29-31 says "I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beast of the field become too numerous for you.  30 "Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land. 31 "And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. I believe these verses have an application for us today in that it speaks of our sanctification, God will give you the ability to drive out the sins in your life as He puts His finger on them and says they must go.  We have to be obedient to do this when He tells us to or else there will come a time when we will not be able to drive them out. Later on the Israelites had not obeyed the voice of God and He told them because they would not drive the out they could not and they were plagued the rest of their days and to this day by the inhabitants of the land.  We need to listen to God when He says get rid of a sin and then we will not have to deal with it the rest of our life.     Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Send us a text In John 18:31-38 we see Pilate still trying to get out of crucifying Jesus, but the Jews will not be persuaded. Jesus is then questioned by Pilate as to who He really is.  We know that Pilate's wife has had a dream about Jesus; he knows they delivered Him up for envy and so he is still desperately trying to find some way out.  Jesus then puts Pilate on the hot seat and even while He is under threat of the cross, He is still concerned with Pilate's soul.  Jesus wants to know why Pilate is asking the questions He asks.  Jesus admits He is a King, but of a heavenly realm, not earthly.  He then tells Pilate the reason He came is to bear witness of the truth and poor Pilate responds what is truth. Jesus knows Pilate is not going to trust Him as Savior, so He ends the conversation and ultimately refuses to speak to him anymore.  Pilate's fate is sealed. Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.          In 1 Samuel Saul was told by God to completely destroy the Amalekites, but decided that he apparently knew better than God what to do.  Part of this was based on the fact that he was not really a leader, but was more concerned with what the people wanted than what God did. When God tells us to do something He wants it done exactly like He said to do it, to not do that is disobedience and rebellion.  It is the same today, the word of God tells us what to do and how to do it and through the Holy Spirit uses prayer and the word to lead us and guide us.  God doesn't care about our sacrifices. He cares about our obedience. The Prophet Samuel was rightly grieved when He saw Saul whom God had put in charge to lead His people fall from grace because of his wanting to be popular and liked.  There is one standard, it doesn't matter who we are, God's word does not change because of popular opinion.  Are we going to be like Samuel and cry out to God for our pastors and leaders and hold them accountable or reap the consequences when they fall because they compromise like everyone else seems to be doing? Are we going to completely obey or think we can do part of what God says and it will be alright?                1Samuel 15:9-11,22-23 1Sa 15:9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. Send us a text               Matthew 20:33 says They said to Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.”  God fed the Israelites with the food that came down from Heaven.  Jesus said He was the bread that came down from Heaven (John 6). This manna was the only food they had for the 40 years of wilderness wandering.  Christ is the only (spiritual) food we need during our earthly “wilderness wandering” on the way to the promised land (heaven). Nothing else satisfies, nothing else gives spiritual strength and life. It also represents his humiliation as His body was shattered before and after He was put on the cross.  He gave His flesh that we might have life and we remember that each time we celebrate the Lord's supper. They went out early to get it as we need to feast on Jesus' word and Spirit before our day starts. Send us a textIn this section we see the Jews just assume that Pilate will kill this ”Man” Jesus that they want killed because of envy.  Pilate lets them know real quick that it isn't going to be that simple, but asks what is He accused of? They come up with this general if He weren't an evil doer we would not have delivered Him up to you. In other words, we want Him killed, don't worry about the charges, just kill Him. The Jews have Pilate right where they want him and they are ultimately going to force Him to kill Jesus. We will see that Pilate has messed up three times in insulting the Jews and their God by some of the things he did. This is ultimately how they force him to do their will, because if he messes up one more time it is means the loss of his political position at the least and most like it will cost him his life. Are we willing to give up all our human ambitions to follow Jesus?  If not, why not?               In 1 Samuel 12:23-24 Samuel did what any good leader should do. He knew that the people had rebelled and sinned against God, but this could not be undone.  Instead he encouraged the people to follow the Lord with all their heart and remember all the good things God had done for them.  Samuel also said that God would not abandon them and he would not either for what they had done, but he would teach them and pray for them as all good leaders and Christians should do for others who have strayed.  We need to, if we have strayed remember what God has done for us and remember He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).  Also, we don't want to shoot our wounded, but we need to come alongside those who have strayed, encourage them to do all these things and pray for them.  The church is a hospital for sinners and we need to remember that. Only Jesus The Great Physician can heal us and forgive us of our sin.                  "Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way. Only fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. Send us a text                           1 John 3:18-19 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. John speaks here of love as an action as does 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter and also James and many other places in the Bible. Love never just says, it always is grounded in the truth of the word and results in a love that wants the best for others. When we have this love it gives us assurance that we truly belong to Christ and gives us confidence to come boldly into His presence with our prayers. The whole book of 1 John is a series of tests that are meant to show us we are true believers and how to spot the false professors, or to show us our need of salvation. This is the test of love and the whole Bible is based on a love that God in Christ showed for us. If He did it for us, can we not show it to others? Jesus honors the Father by trusting in Him through every circumstance and Peter fails miserably.  Peter fails because He did not watch and pray as Jesus told him and the disciples to in the garden when Jesus went to pray. Mt 26:41 "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." They kept falling asleep and Jesus had already warned Peter that Satan desired to sift him as wheat earlier in Lu 22:31. Then He singles out Peter in Mt 26:40 Then He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? Peter fails because he thinks he can't which contradicts 1Co 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. Jesus stands strong because He has prayed and continues to trust the Father.  Peter fails because he is proud, he doesn't pray for help, and lastly because He did not leave when Jesus told them to leave and let them just take Him. He was somewhere he should have never been. Remember 1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Send us a textProverbs 24:3 says Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; If you read to verse 6 you find out that wisdom is essential if we are to live a life that is pleasing to God and is fruitful. All of life is dependent on wise decisions. "The wise man built his house upon a rock," and that Rock is Christ Jesus (cf. Matt.7:24-27; 1 Cor. 10:4). God is the source of wisdom, not the world. A wise person knows that he needs other people in his life to help him make right decisions. We are foolish when we don't supplement our study of scriptures and every day decisions by first asking God and then when we are not clear on a decision to run it by others also. It is good to have godly friends who have knowledge in areas we don't and can give wise counsel.                 In 1 Samuel 10:1-6 we see Samuel anointing Saul as the king that the people wanted. Samuel spoke of three signs that would show that Saul had been picked and anointed in accordance with God's will.  The first of these would have given Saul the confidence in God's ability to control the people.  The second would have shown him that the people would accept him as king and the third would have shown him that he had the Holy Spirit enabling from God to lead, guide, and do all that God wanted him to do for Israel. Unfortunately, these lessons did not sink into Saul's heart.  He should have learned God could solve his problems, supply his needs, and give him the power he needed for service. God calls us to tasks and gives us the ability to do them, but we have to trust Him implicitly if we are going to accomplish God's will for our lives and the task He has given us.  Remember, God doesn't call the enabled, but when He calls us to a task He enables us to do it.  Let us trust Him today for anything and everything that He calls us to do for Him.                    1 Samuel 10:1-6 Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him and said: "Is it not because the LORD has anointed you commander over His inheritance? 2 "When you have departed from me today, you will find two men by Rachel's tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say to you, 'The donkeys which you went to look for have been found. Send us a textIn 1 John 2:15-17 John says don't love the world system of evil and wants that are always wanting more. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life are the three ways the devil always tempts us. It was done in the garden with Eve, and many other places in the Old Testament. It was attempted with Jesus when He fasted 40 days and nights. He never fell prey to the devil's temptations but fought them with scripture. He set the example of how we can win the battle with temptation too. We need to memorize scripture and remember who God is and that what He has is way better than the devil's cheap imitation of satisfaction. The devil's goodies always leave us wanting more. Let us remember the words of Ephesians 6:10 and following to verse 21. We are to be strong in the Lord and the power of His Might. Stand, withstand, having done all to stand, stand therefore. We don't need to win the battle, Jesus already has, so stand strong in His power. Amen!                    1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. Send us a textIn this section we see Jesus saying He has given us His glory that we will be one. The earthly sufferings of our Lord are part of His glory (John 12:23; 13:31-32; 17:1). And it is this glory—the glory of servant hood and of sacrificial service, which our Lord has given to us, His disciples. As Jesus was glorified by His coming to this earth, being rejected by men and put to death, so His disciples are also given the same glory, the glory of suffering for the sake of Christ: Secondly, He prays for us to have the same love that the Father loves the Son with.  This is a love which will prompt one to lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13). Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.                 In this last chapter of Ruth, we see Boaz is a picture or type of Jesus Christ. This reminds us that to be a redeemer He had to become related to us before He could redeem us. He became flesh and blood so He could die for us on the cross (Heb. 2:14–15). In order to qualify, the kinsman redeemer also had to be able to pay the redemption price. Ruth and Naomi were too poor to redeem themselves, but Boaz had all the resources necessary to set them free. When it comes to the redemption of sinners, no one but Jesus Christ is rich enough to pay the price. Indeed, the payment of money can never set sinners free; it is the shedding of the precious blood of Christ that has accomplished redemption (1 Peter 1:18). There was a third qualification: The kinsman redeemer had to be willing to redeem. As we see in this chapter, Boaz was free to purchase both the property and a wife. We become the property of Jesus and His bride at the new birth.  Aren't you thankful that Jesus qualified in all ways to be able to redeem us (buy us back) from the slavery of sin? We can be thankful for this whole book that shows us that no matter how bad things look, Jesus is in the background and can turn our lives around if we are willing to let Him save us and take control.  Amen!                   Ruth 4:9-12 And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, "You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, from the hand of Naomi. 10 "Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from his position at the gate. Send us a text                      1 John 1:1-2 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life-- 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us. These verses say this one from the beginning is a Real Person, and he has been seen and heard and handled. In other words, Christian faith rests upon the great facts of the life and acts of the God Man in history. The Apostle Paul stresses this a lot in his writings. Our Christian faith does not rest simply on ideas, or doctrinal statements. That is why becoming a Christian is not simply a matter of joining a church, or believing a certain creed, or signing a doctrinal statement. That has nothing to do with becoming a Christian. John points out that becoming a Christian is to be related to a Person. This is the point to which all objections to Christianity are ultimately directed, and attempt to destroy this basis of fact. The forces which seek to overthrow Christian faith today try to undermine our confidence in the facts of Scripture, these great historical truths about a Person who appeared in time.               Jesus is both the messenger and the message. The message and the messenger are identical. He is the one that IS and gives us eternal life.           In the first few verses of the book of Ruth we see 3 fatal mistakes.  First Elimelech takes his family down to the land of their enemies. He had a family to take care of and yet he walked by faith instead of sight, then he focused on the physical not the spiritual, and lastly he should have known that it was better to be hungry in Bethlehem in the will of God, rather than be full in the land of their enemies (Moab). These fatal mistakes cost this family almost everything.  First, Elimelech dies, then his wife Naomi allows their boys to marry women from Moab which was forbidden, and because of this they die too.  Naomi ends up with two pagan women in a land where she doesn't belong without any way to survive without a man to take care of her and the other two women. But thank God this is not the end of the story, just the tragic beginning.   Lessons It's been said that crises reveal what we are. They also make us what we are in God's plan 1 Peter 1 and James 1 says count it all joy and let patience have it's perfect work. Don't get out of the trial, learn what God wants you to from the trial. You don't want to be anywhere out of the will of God. It's better to starve to death in God's will rather than be somewhere He doesn't want you to be. When we disobey we put others and ourselves in danger of God's discipline and all kinds of bad things can happen. We can lose everything. God loves it when we come home to Him.                 Ruth 1:1-5 Now it came to pass, in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah, went to dwell in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. 2 The name of the man was Elimelech, the name of his wife was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion-Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to the country of Moab and remained there. 3 Then Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons. 4 Now they took wives of the women of Moab: the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth. And they dwelt there about ten years. 5 Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died; so the woman survived her two sons and her husband. Send us a textDavid expresses his trust in God several times in this Psalm and also asks that he not be ashamed.  He truly trusts in God as he says and has gone public in affirming his trust in the Lord.  If the Lord lets him down and his enemies triumph over him not only will his honor, but the Lord's honor will be at stake.  So what David is saying is don't let me be ashamed because if I am, your name is going to be dishonored too.  Do we feel the same way about the Lord and His honor and name? Everything a Christian does reflects on who God is and what He stands for.  So, let us make sure the way we live and when we make decisions that these reflect how great and holy our God is. Send us a textHere Jesus is still praying for us believers and is praying again that we would be one as the He is with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  They never fight over who gets to be the Father, who gets to be the Son or the Holy Spirit.  They are always one and in unison on everything because they have one purpose as we do also.  He is praying that we would be one in Them, THAT (here is the purpose) the world may believe that Jesus was sent by the Father and when they do that they will be saved.  That is it people, when we believe Jesus is who He said He was (God in Human Flesh), that He died for our sins, and we trust in that, we are saved. Thy word is a light unto my path and a lamp unto my feet.  It has been said if we walk in the light that we do know, the light being the will of God, then God will show us how and where to make the next step in His will. In the midst of all the craziness going on we have seen that many areas are shutting down everything except essential businesses. My wife saw that liquor stores are considered essential. I made the comment that the world cannot get through a crisis without something that comes in a bottle, a pill or liquor bottle or some other crutch. We who are believers have something way greater. Jesus said in John 14:17 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. We have the promise that He is enough even though the world may be falling apart, we must not let the world make us anxious or stressed. Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.… Paul said in Philippians 4:6-9 to not be anxious about anything but take it all to God and the peace that passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds. He also said not to think on and fill your mind with the bad things but to dwell on what is good. Send us a textJesus has spoken many things so we can have His joy complete in our life.  We are also told how we have the Father's word and because of that we will be hated because we are not like the world.  He prays for us not to be taken out of the world, but that we will be protected while we are here.  Our job is not to get saved and leave, but we are to share God's word with others.  He also is praying that we will be Holy and separate from the world because we have been transformed by the Word we have read and absorbed into our life.  He also sends us as He was sent and has set Himself apart as completely holy so that we can be that way too.          Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?             John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Proverbs 6:23 says For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:) Someone told me after hearing a sermon that they never knew it could feel so good to have their toes stepped on.  That is what the Bible, the Commandment does for us and to us.  It shows us the right way to live by the light it gives to walk in the ways of God and it also tells us when we are doing wrong.  Are we sensitive to the Word of God and the Spirit's leading when it tells us to do something or not to do something?  May we ever be diligent to hear the word of God and respond to what it says.  Amen.     John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. What I mean is that we will not all agree on all the things the Bible says, we get caught up with election, predestination, tongues, and we fight over what color carpet to have or matters that just are not essential to our salvation. These loaves were laid in the tabernacle in God's presence for 7 days.  They were changed out every week and were not laid there as a sacrifice to God for Him to eat as the idol worshipping people did for their so called gods. This represented several things:  First it was symbolic of Israel's calling from God as His people. It was symbolic of Jesus the Messiah's bread of life presence with them as one who sustains them.  Third it was to represent their continual thanksgiving for all of the blessings of God they received each and every day. It also was a symbol of God's providing and that Israel was supposed to be a source of spiritual food for the world. Send us a textJesus has fulfilled His mission by revealing who God is to the disciples who have been chosen by the Father.  That is our mission, to reveal to the world Jesus Christ who is both Lord and Savior (2Peter 1:11). He tells us that they are a love gift from the Father to the Son Jesus Christ and they are saved. The proof is they have kept His word. They know that Jesus is God and everything He says comes from God the Father. He shows they are saved again by saying they received the words and have believed He was sent down by the Father. He prays for His disciples, He does not pray for the world because they are not His children. He has a special love for the disciples and all His children who have trusted Jesus as Lord and Savior. Lastly, He says that all believers belong to the Father and to Him also, and the way He will be glorified in the future is by the way we live here on earth for Him.
