In 1977, one of the most horrifying events occurred at a girl scouts camp: three girls were found brutally murdered. The hunt for the killer would continue for years, ultimately landing in a Not Guilty verdict. But that doesn't mean it was the right conclusion to this disturbing case. The Oklahoma Girl Scout murders took place on the morning of June 13, 1977, at Camp Scott in Mayes County, Oklahoma, United States. By 10 am, they evacuated the entirety of Camp Scott without telling the other campers why they were heading back home after only one night of being there. This was the last day that Camp Scott was open after almost 50 years of hosting the Girl Scouts of Oklahoma. This story is horrifying, and we can only hope that one day the families of the victims will have some closure as to what happened and why. Stay safe out there. On June 13, 1977 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, 3 young girls ages 8-10 were brutally murdered while attending a Girl Scout summer camp. After 45 years, new evidence has recently been shared about their killer and a new documentary made to remember this tragic event. Join us as we delve into this case, investigating what happened to these precious victims, how investigators obtained the suspect, and the significance of how the Native American culture heavily influenced the case. We will also tell you what happened to the families and major players since the trial in 1979. You may think you know all there is to know about this case and it's outcome, but we take a fascinating, albeit creepy, detour into certain incidents during the investigation that may not have been previously explained, but are too mysterious not to question. And once you know the whole story, we'd like to know what you think, did Native American rituals and ceremonies allow the suspect to escape police custody? Or did the mystical and ancient powers of the Native Americans help to relay the ultimate justice to these young girls? Excuse the audio, first timers here, but we promise to get better!Thank you for listening. We hope you enjoyed this episode and come back for more! The conclusion to this horrific case is finally here. Tonight we talk about Oklahoma's most massive manhunt, we discuss the mounting evidence against Gene Leroy Hart and we discuss some questionable police work that may have cost them their case in the end. Unfortunately, this case technically remains unsolved, despite many attempts to get something from the DNA evidence that was poorly stored for so many years. It's a tragedy that hopefully will one day have some real closure. Sources for these episodes: The Camp Scott Murders by C.S. Alaina pulls at our heartstrings this week with part one of the Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders. In June of 1977, eight year old Lori Lee Farmer, nine year old Michelle Heather Guse and ten year old Doris Denise Milner headed off to Camp Scott for a two week girl scout experience. Unfortunately someone, or potentially multiple someones, had been lurking around the camp in the weeks leading up to night one. Whoever it was had more than sinister plans to kill the three girl scouts camping out in tent one. In Part One we'll go over who each girl was, the night of the murders and we'll end it on a pretty convincing suspect. Don't bet too heavy on him though, in part two Alaina will bring some evidence to the table pointing away from who we thought was our lead suspect. As always, thank you to our sponsors!
