The digital evidence presented in the Kouri Richins trial doesn't need a plea deal or immunity agreement. It speaks on its own.Forensic analyst Chris Kotrodimos testified about data extracted from seven phones in this case. What he showed the jury was damning. Deleted meme thumbnails recovered from Kouri's phone—accessed moments after first responders left the home where Eric Richins lay dead—included one captioned "I'm really rich" and another showing a woman crying into cash.Between January and mid-March 2022, hundreds of messages, web searches, and call logs were scrubbed from Kouri's white iPhone. Eric's phone showed no mass deletions during the same period.The timeline around Eric's death raised immediate questions. Kouri's phone was unlocked multiple times at 3:06 a.m. the night he died. She didn't call 911 until 3:21. What happened in those fifteen minutes?Google searches recovered from Kouri's replacement phone included how to wipe an iPhone remotely, whether police can force lie detector tests, luxury prison information, and life insurance payout timelines. Cell tower data showed phones belonging to the alleged drug supplier and middleman meeting at the same Draper gas station on the three exact dates prosecutors say fentanyl was purchased—and nowhere else.Valentine's Day data presented a split screen: Kouri texting her alleged boyfriend "I love you" while Eric texted her saying he was sick. That's the day prosecutors allege she attempted to poison him with fentanyl. Former Chief Medical Examiner Erik Christensen testified Eric was given fentanyl by someone else.The psychological question underlying this case—how did Eric miss the signs?—has answers in documented research on coercive control and love bombing. A remote mountain lodge in the Sierra Nevada. A busy wedding weekend. And a violent break-in after midnight that leaves one woman dead and a key witness barely alive.On August 19, 1990, in Camp Nelson, California, Bonnie Hood (46) is shot and killed inside a cabin at Camp Nelson Lodge, a secluded retreat in Tulare County. Her handyman, Rudy Manuel, is shot in the head—but survives long enough to describe what he says happened. Investigators initially believe it's a robbery… until the details don't fit: nothing of value is taken, and the attack feels targeted.The evidence leads prosecutors to Bruce (Edward) Beauchamp, and the case barrels toward trial. From true crime to Sherlock Holmes to CSI, people all around the world have a fascination with crime, mystery, and forensics. And Thomas Coyle has been up close with the field for decades. He started his career as a fingerprint examiner at Scotland Yard when he was a teenager, before moving to New Zealand decades later, setting himself up as one of our most prominent forensic experts and crime scene investigators. According to the PMO, The IDF is currently conducting a focused operation to exhaust all of the intelligence and upon completion of this operation -- and in accordance with what has been agreed upon with the US -- Israel will open the Rafah Crossing. Fabian fills us in on the recovery efforts, how the IDF plans to secure the crossing into Egypt and what is happening on the ground in Gaza. The IDF said Monday that its wave of airstrikes last night against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon hit weapon depots and other infrastructure. We speak about the recent wave of airstrikes and how deeply inside Lebanon the IAF is targeting. Judge Penney Azcarate wants answers. She's ordered prosecutors to turn over all communications related to the transfer of Officer Brendan Miller — the digital forensics expert whose findings contradicted the prosecution's theory in the Brendan Banfield murder case.Miller analyzed 60 devices connected to the case. His conclusion: Christine Banfield — not her husband — appeared to control the FetLife account prosecutors claim was used to lure Joseph Ryan to his death. The University of Alabama peer-reviewed his analysis and confirmed it. Then, according to court testimony, Miller was told he'd never work another digital forensics case. He was transferred out. The lead homicide detective who disagreed with command staff was also reassigned.On February 24, 2023, Christine Banfield, 37, was stabbed to death in her Herndon, Virginia home. Joseph Ryan, 39, lay feet away, shot twice by two different guns. Their 4-year-old daughter was in the basement waiting to go to the zoo.Prosecutors allege Brendan Banfield and au pair Juliana Peres Magalhaes were having an affair and staged the murders to look like self-defense. Juliana faced murder charges for a year before changing her story and taking a plea deal that lets her walk free if she testifies against Banfield.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer breaks down what she calls "a theory in search of facts." The original prosecutor was removed after being cited for drinking at 8 a.m. Key evidence was excluded. It took 19 months to charge Banfield. On Friday, May 8th, 1981, nineteen year old Long Island native Tammy Mahoney left her Oneida, New York apartment to visit friends twenty miles away in the town of Hamilton. She never arrived and her case was investigated as that of a missing person.Twenty years later, in May of 2001, law enforcement officials announced that witnesses had come forward stating that on the night of her disappearance, Tammy was taken to a remote area, assaulted and ultimately murdered by a small group of men. To date, none of them have ever been charged or even named as witnesses are too afraid to testify.Her family desperately hopes for justice and the chance to bring Tammy home where she may be laid to rest beside her parents.
