Identity, AI Agents, and the Session Token Time Bomb | Carey Frey (CSO, TELUS) on Cybersecurity Today In this Cybersecurity Today weekend edition, David Shipley interviews Carey Frey, Chief Security Officer at TELUS, about the evolution of identity security and why it's a growing risk in the age of generative and agentic AI. Frey recounts his career from Canada's Communications Security Establishment to leading TELUS's internal security and managed cybersecurity services, then explains how convenience-driven identity decisions led from PKI's unrealized promise to passwords, bearer/session tokens, and today's widespread session cookie theft. He describes lessons from TELUS's deployment of FIDO2 phishing-resistant tokens, the dangers of long-lived SSO tokens across SaaS ecosystems, and how agentic "auto-browse" could amplify harm via the "lethal trifecta" and ephemeral agents with poor auditability. Frey highlights the Syne/SignNet CISO Identity Handbook and calls for stronger cryptographic roots of trust, proof-based tokens, re-authentication across trust domains, and fine-grained delegation guardrails. Dr. Carol shares a case of Meige (MEIGE) syndrome involving severe facial muscle spasticity and involuntary eye closure triggered by speaking, plus light sensitivity, absent gag reflex (partially restored after chiropractic care), elevated shoulders, and a history of extreme stress and childhood abuse. After identifying likely involvement of cranial nerve VII and structures associated with the pons, vagus, basal ganglia, cerebellum, and medulla, they describe an evolving FSM strategy: running protocols such as concussion and vagus/vagal tone, pons repair, increasing secretions in the pons, and "quieting" the basal ganglia and cerebellum (including noting 40/988 for quieting basal ganglia). They discuss searching neurotransmitters of the pons (acetylcholine, GABA, serotonin, norepinephrine), emphasizing inhibitory support via GABA and serotonin, supplementing with chewable GABA and later ordering 5-HTP, and the concept that using "increase secretions" can require providing precursors/substrate to avoid depletion. They also add emotional frequencies for fear/terror and note functional changes across two days, including relaxed facial muscles and improved blinking and speech-related eye control, then send the patient home with a five-hour nighttime program and a loaner device, with follow-up planned. The conversation also covers patient education, expectations and management with CustomCare devices, tracking outcomes with metrics like range of motion and confidence.

In Episode 6 of The Zodiac Killer, we return to San Francisco—two weeks after Lake Berryessa—for the case that changed everything: the murder of taxi driver Paul Stine in Presidio Heights on October 11, 1969.This attack was different. Different victim. Different setting. Different risk. Under streetlights, with witnesses watching from across the road, the killer lingered—cutting a piece of Stine's shirt, wiping the cab, and walking away with eerie calm.We break down the full Presidio Heights timeline, what the Robbins witnesses reported, the police response, and the error that may have helped the Zodiac escape: a broadcast description that sent officers looking for the wrong suspect. We also examine the evidence that made this the most significant Zodiac crime scene: bloody latent fingerprints, the composite sketch, the shirt piece mailed to the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Zodiac's chilling escalation—threats against schoolchildren and a school bus. Finally, Simon and Tom dig into the investigative angles: patterns, escalation, and what the “gap” before the Zodiac claimed responsibility might suggest. If you're researching the Zodiac case, this episode is your deep dive into the murder many consider the turning point—and the last confirmed Zodiac killing.00:00 Two Weeks of Silence… Then Zodiac Strikes in San Francisco01:19 Who Was Paul Stine? Are fraud rings quietly manipulating the trucking industry? Are brokers relying too much on outdated Certificate of Insurance? And what happens when stricter DOT enforcement reshapes how freight moves across the country? In this episode, Cameron Pechia of Valley Trucking Insurance explains how organized trucking fraud - from chameleon carriers and fake insurance documents to criminal syndicates influencing CDLs, financing, and compliance - is forcing brokers and carriers to tighten verification processes and rethink risk management across the supply chain! We talk about why Certificate of Insurance is a weak proof without direct verification, how upcoming DOT regulations and increased enforcement may trigger short-term spikes in freight fraud, and why brokers should implement 30-60 day insurance and credential re-verification cycles to protect loads. Cam also dives into how stronger regulatory standards, better insurance verification practices, and real collaboration with trusted providers can help ethical trucking companies thrive while improving market stability, reducing carrier failure rates, and strengthening overall supply chain security.   About Cameron Pechia Cameron is the founder of Valley Trucking Insurance, a leading Trucking Insurance Agency based in Spokane, Washington. The Pima County Sheriff says no suspects and no persons of interest in the Nancy Guthrie disappearance. Retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke says the documented investigative activity tells a more complex story — and the gap between official statements and observable forensic actions is one of the most important signals in this case.A Cellebrite device photographed at a family member's home on Day Four. A vehicle impounded — initially denied, later confirmed. Two consecutive nights of forensic photography documented at a family member's residence. Ashleigh Banfield's law enforcement source identifying a specific individual as a possible focus. The sheriff calling that "reckless" with words carefully chosen to stop short of denial. And a White House saying a "solution" and "definitive suspect" could come soon while local authorities maintain nothing has changed. On True Crime Today, Dreeke reads the investigative pattern and explains what the Cellebrite deployment, the vehicle seizure, the deny-then-confirm cycle, and the disconnect between local and federal messaging reveal about where this case is actually headed. No suspects have been named. All individuals are presumed innocent. From true crime to Sherlock Holmes to CSI, people all around the world have a fascination with crime, mystery, and forensics. And Thomas Coyle has been up close with the field for decades. He started his career as a fingerprint examiner at Scotland Yard when he was a teenager, before moving to New Zealand decades later, setting himself up as one of our most prominent forensic experts and crime scene investigators. It led to him being named a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2024, and he now runs his own forensic business and teaches students from as early as year 2. Coyle's 37-year career is detailed in his new book, ‘The Dead Speak: My Life in Forensics'. He told Mike Hosking there's a lot of information in the book, but he hopes it's honest, raw, and gives a ‘real insight' into what forensic science is about at crime scenes. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Military correspondent Emanuel Fabian joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. The IDF confirmed yesterday it is searching for the remains of Master Sgt. Ran Gvili, the last remaining hostage held in the Gaza Strip, on the Israeli side of the ceasefire line in the enclave’s north in a cemetery. According to the PMO, The IDF is currently conducting a focused operation to exhaust all of the intelligence and upon completion of this operation -- and in accordance with what has been agreed upon with the US -- Israel will open the Rafah Crossing. Fabian fills us in on the recovery efforts, how the IDF plans to secure the crossing into Egypt and what is happening on the ground in Gaza. The IDF said Monday that its wave of airstrikes last night against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon hit weapon depots and other infrastructure. We speak about the recent wave of airstrikes and how deeply inside Lebanon the IAF is targeting. We then discuss whether a much weakened Hezbollah would consider joining ranks with Iran in any escalation of hostilities. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. This episode continues our collaboration with Hothouse: The Future of Demonstration, a renegade lab for democracy convened in Vienna, and extends our ongoing inquiry into artificial intelligence, power, and what it means to be human under algorithmic governance.Recorded last autumn and released amid a so-called ceasefire in Gaza, this conversation confronts the accelerating use of AI in contemporary warfare and policing, where automation does not necessarily produce precision, but rather enables mass violence, deniability, and narrative control. Our guest, Júlia Nueno Guitart, engineer, researcher, and core member of Forensic Architecture, discusses the organization's investigations into Israel's military campaign in Gaza, including projects such as Cartography of the Genocide, The Architecture of Genocidal Starvation, and analyses of AI-driven targeting systems like Lavender and “Where's Daddy.”Together, we unpack how these systems collapse civilian life into probabilistic models, violate the principles of distinction and proportionality under international law, and reframe killing as a statistical inevitability. The conversation also explores investigative aesthetics and counter-forensics: methods that assemble fragments (satellite imagery, testimonies, spatial models, sensor data) into material evidence when states and corporations control official archives. We discuss how Forensic Architecture navigates courts, museums, open platforms, and public discourse, and how truth today must be staged as a transparent, collective process rather than a claim of institutional objectivity.Moving beyond warfare, the episode considers AI as both a tool of domination and a potential instrument for resistance, from documenting state violence to worker-led experiments in platform sabotage and collective agency. Across these terrains, we ask how evidence can still matter amid institutional failure, how violence becomes infrastructural, and how democracy might be rethought when power is increasingly automated.Links:Forensic Architecutre: A Cartography of GenocideForensic Architecture: Investigation into Aid in Gaza (The Architecture of Genocidal Starvation)Forensic Architecture in ArtforumInvestigative Aesthetics: Conflicts and Commons in the Politics of Truth by Matthew Fuller and Eyal Weizman Júlia's in Verso: The Target FactoryForensis: The Architecture of Public TruthMore context:SETA report on AI-assisted warfare in GazaThe Guardian and 404 Media on ICE and tech partnerships in the US

Judge Penney Azcarate wants answers. She's ordered prosecutors to turn over all communications related to the transfer of Officer Brendan Miller — the digital forensics expert whose findings contradicted the prosecution's theory in the Brendan Banfield murder case.Miller analyzed 60 devices connected to the case. His conclusion: Christine Banfield — not her husband — appeared to control the FetLife account prosecutors claim was used to lure Joseph Ryan to his death. The University of Alabama peer-reviewed his analysis and confirmed it. Then, according to court testimony, Miller was told he'd never work another digital forensics case. He was transferred out. The lead homicide detective who disagreed with command staff was also reassigned. On February 24, 2023, Christine Banfield, 37, was stabbed to death in her Herndon, Virginia home. Joseph Ryan, 39, lay feet away, shot twice by two different guns. Their 4-year-old daughter was in the basement waiting to go to the zoo.Prosecutors allege Brendan Banfield and au pair Juliana Peres Magalhaes were having an affair and staged the murders to look like self-defense. Juliana faced murder charges for a year before changing her story and taking a plea deal that lets her walk free if she testifies against Banfield.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer breaks down what she calls "a theory in search of facts." The original prosecutor was removed after being cited for drinking at 8 a.m. Key evidence was excluded. It took 19 months to charge Banfield. There were 24 competing theories before the au pair flipped. This case had serious problems before a single witness took the stand. She examines bones for marks of torture and fatal wounds—hands bound by rope, machete cuts—and also for signs of identity: how life shapes us down to the bone. A weaver is recognized from the tiny bones of the toes, molded by kneeling before a loom; a girl is identified alongside her pet dog. In the tenderness of understanding these bones, forensics not only offers proof of mass atrocity but also tells the story of each life lost. Working with forensic teams at mass grave sites and in labs, Hagerty discovers how bones bear witness to crimes against humanity and how exhumation can bring families meaning after unimaginable loss. She also comes to see how cutting-edge science can act as ritual—a way of caring for the dead with symbolic force that can repair societies torn apart by violence. Weaving together powerful stories about investigative breakthroughs, histories of violence and resistance, and her own forensic coming-of-age, Hagerty crafts a moving portrait of the living and the dead. Weaving together powerful stories about investigative breakthroughs, histories of violence and resistance, and her own forensic coming-of-age, Hagerty crafts a moving portrait of the living and the dead. On Friday, May 8th, 1981, nineteen year old Long Island native Tammy Mahoney left her Oneida, New York apartment to visit friends twenty miles away in the town of Hamilton.  She never arrived and her case was investigated as that of a missing person.Twenty years later, in May of 2001, law enforcement officials announced that witnesses had come forward stating that on the night of her disappearance, Tammy was taken to a remote area, assaulted and ultimately murdered by a small group of men.  To date, none of them have ever been charged or even named as witnesses are too afraid to testify. Her family desperately hopes for justice and the chance to bring Tammy home where she may be laid to rest beside her parents.  There are people who know the truth, but until they come forward, the case remains in limbo.Justice for Tammy Mahoney Facebook PageFollowTEPod.comClick here to Submit a Question for the Trace Evidence Q&A episodeFollow Trace Evidence on Social MediaTwitter --- Instagram --- TikTok --- YouTube --- Like Facebook Page --- Join Facebook Group --- Threads --- Like MeWe Page --- Join MeWe Group --- BlueskySuppport Trace EvidencePatreon --- Paypal --- Cash App --- Buy Me A CoffeeTrace Evidence Merch ShopsTeePublic --- ShopTEPod --- SpreadshopAll Other LinksOfficial Trace Evidence Website --- LinkTreeMusic Courtesy of:"Lost Time"  Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/"Echoes of Time" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/"Galactic Rap" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/#truecrimepodcast #unsolvedmysteries #coldcase #coldcaseinvestigation #murder #murdermystery #missingperson #missingpersons #truecrimecommunity #mysterypodcast #truecrime #coldcasefiles #truecrimestories #crimelovers #truecrimeaddict #truecrimejunkie #crimescene #justiceforall #missing #crimesquad #podcastcommunity #sleuthsunite #darkhistories #criminalmindset #detective #detectivediaries #forensics #forensicfiles #crimestories #crimepodcast #traceevidence #traceevidencepodcast #criminalinvestigation #justiceforvictims #detectivework #truecrimediscussion #podcastfamily #listenandsolve #crimefans #listentotraceevidence #uncoverthetruth #podcastrecommendations #podcastlove #podcastlife #truecrimeobsessed #followtheclues #cluefinders #podcastaddict #unsolvedmurders #unsolveddisappearances #detectiveatheart #jointheinvestigation #disappearance #vanishing #abduction #gonemissing #upandvanished #pacheco #stevenpacheco #podcasting #crimetalk #crimeanalysis #theories #tammymahoney #longisland #oneida #newyork #upstate #oneidanationBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/trace-evidence--3207798/support.
