Here's a little blast from the past. A while back, I posted my version of a traditional folktale which I gave the title A Kiss Of Salt. This was well received - and one of my own favourite pieces - but more recently, my hosts for this podcast did some kind of AI sweep looking for plagiarism among material posted. It turned out that someone had written some song which had nothing to do with my story but which made some reference in its title to a kiss being salty. This also happened with another of my stories Wild Hearts, Warm Hearts - again there was no link between my extended folklore-based story and a reference to hearts in someone's three minute love song but AI, as we all know, is anything but intelligent. As a result both pieces were peremptorily removed from the podcast. I was sent an appeal form but only one form, though two stories had been taken down - and apparently the AI could only process one submission per form. Wild Hearts, Warm Hearts was quickly found "Not Guilty" and restored but not A Kiss Of Salt. Because it was not plagiarised - my source was a public domain folk tale which, in the interest of full disclosure, can be found in Volume 1 of Robert Hunt's 19th century collection Popular Romances Of The West of England or The Drolls, Traditions & Superstitions of Old Cornwall (I was working in Cornwall when I first encountered the story, Hunt's book being the Cornish equivalent of the Brothers Grimm) - I here confidently repost it - but, to save confusion, post it not under my preferred title but under the title Hunt's collection gave it: The Mermaid's Vengeance. That maybe gives more of the game away than i'd like, but I'm proud of the story and performance and my very Arran reinvention of it - so here it is, back again. Enjoy!

Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Nick Reiner is broke. Unemployed. Sitting in jail charged with double murder. His parents — Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner — left behind an estate worth $200 million. And under California law, there may be a way he could still get his hands on it.Wait, what? The slayer statute is supposed to prevent killers from inheriting from their victims. But it only applies to "felonious and intentional" killings. What happens if Nick is found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity? What if a jury decides he couldn't form intent? Does the statute still apply?Estate lawyers say this is largely untested territory. And it raises an uncomfortable question: Was the insanity defense always about more than just avoiding prison? In this episode, we examine the legal mechanics that could allow Nick Reiner to challenge for his inheritance even after being charged with his parents' murders. We break down why the family reportedly hired a $2,000-an-hour attorney — then stopped paying. And we explain what it means that Nick is now represented by a public defender who had 24 hours to prepare for this case. The Reiner fortune is sitting there. The question is whether Nick has any path to it. The answer might surprise you.#NickReiner #RobReiner #ReinerCase #SlayerStatute #TrueCrime #InsanityDefense #CaliforniaLaw #Parricide #MurderTrial #HKLiveJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISDOES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? After acclaimed attorney Alan Jackson dramatically withdrew from the Nick Reiner murder case, his parting words—that Reiner is "NOT GUILTY"—become the biggest clue yet to the defense's strategy. Law&Crime's Jesse Weber and criminal defense attorney Seth Zuckerman analyze the hints toward an insanity defense, as well as the claims that there could be a conspiracy against Reiner. Sermon Overview: God's Saving Love In this message, Pastor Jason Van Bemmel explores the profound depth of Romans 5:6-11. He challenges the common misconception of an angry Father who needs to be persuaded by a loving Son, showing instead that the cross is the ultimate demonstration of the Father's preexisting love for us. Key Insights: Who Christ Died For: Jesus didn't die for the "good" or the "righteous." He died for the ungodly, for sinners, and for those who were actively enemies of God. This shows that His grace is entirely unearned and based on His character, not our merit. A Powerful Illustration: Using the story of King David and his rebellious son Absalom, we see a picture of a father's heart that longs to save even those who have turned against him. Jesus' death didn't earn God's love; it proved it. The Effective Work of the Cross: Christ's sacrifice accomplished three life-changing realities for believers: Justification: A legal declaration that we are "Not Guilty." Reconciliation: A restored relationship that ends our isolation from God. Salvation: A secure hope that we are saved from future judgment. How to Respond: We are called to rejoice in God through Christ. Pastor Jason encourages us to move beyond abstract belief by: Diving Deep: Immersing ourselves in the Word and the victory of Jesus. Reaching Out: Turning to God in prayer and worship, especially in moments of guilt or fear. Getting Together: Sharing our joy with other believers in the community of the church. On today's program, the judicial commission of the Anglican Church in North America has handed down its long-awaited verdict in the months-long trial of Bishop Stewart Ruch. And that verdict is, “Not Guilty.” We'll have details. And, International Servants has been making big claims about its decades of ministry work in Belize—but verifying those claims has proven more difficult. We'll take a look. Plus, Elevation Church—the North Carolina-based megachurch led by Steven Furtick—has announced the launch of Elevation College. But first, St. Andrew's Chapel in Sanford, Florida, has officially voted to leave the Presbyterian Church in America. The church, originally led by Dr. R.C. Sproul, joined the PCA in 2023. It first considered a vote to leave this summer, but delayed the vote while referring the matter to the church's board of elders, also known as its session, to study the situation and return with a recommendation. Its lead pastor, Burk Parsons, was suspended from his role as a teaching elder in the PCA in June after being found guilty by a church judicial commission of three charges related to, among other things, a “domineering” and “intimidating” leadership style, which included accusations of bullying and slander. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Kim Roberts, Kathryn Post, Jessica Eturralde, and Aaron Earls. A special thanks to Lifeway Research for contributing material for this week's podcast. Until next time, may God bless you.

I especially like the ones in a plastic container as when thawing they make No Mess!! UPDATE ON THAT GEORGIA TURKEY HUNTING STORY Update on a story that stirred up hunters across the country. Back in April, a Georgia teen shot what he believed was a wild turkey on his family's 11-acre property. He posted a proud photo online—his very first turkey. But the situation turned upside down when a neighbor, who also happened to be his former teacher, claimed the bird was actually her pet domestic turkey. A Georgia DNR officer investigated and confirmed the hunt happened legally on the teen's own land. No baiting, no violations, nothing illegal. But even after the DNR declined to file charges, the sheriff's office did—charging the teen with felony animal cruelty. That charge led to a school suspension and forced him to move out of state while he waited for his court date. The family said he had no way of knowing the turkey belonged to anyone. It had no tags or markers, and the domestic breed he shot looked similar enough to a wild turkey that a young hunter could easily mistake it. The case sparked a lot of debate in the small town of Waverly Hall and across the hunting community. Many felt the situation had gone way too far. And now the update: In November, a Harris County juvenile court judge found the teen NOT GUILTY, bringing an end to a six-month legal battle. The judge ruled he did not commit the felony he was accused of. So what started as a proud first hunt became a national story—but now, at last, the teen has been cleared. Reference: https://www.outdoorlife.com/hunting/georgia-teen-turkey-felony-charge-not-guilty/ Tennessee Poacher Caught Hunting Trophy Bucks on Prison Grounds A serial poacher picked a prison yard as his hunting ground — and ended up facing justice himself… A Tennessee man has been busted for poaching trophy deer in one of the strangest places imaginable — the West Tennessee State Penitentiary. Fifty-three-year-old Terry Sellers pleaded guilty to multiple wildlife violations after a state investigation found he illegally killed three massive whitetail bucks on prison property in Lauderdale County. The deer had a combined gross score of more than 490 inches. Wildlife officers say the case broke when reports surfaced about a huge 15-point double drop-tine buck known to roam near the penitentiary. Investigators used smartphone location data to link Sellers to the kills. A judge ordered Sellers to pay $17,500 in restitution, $850 for taxidermy costs, and suspended his hunting privileges for six years. The mounted deer heads will be used in educational displays by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Tara Dublin guest hosts for John. She talks about a federal judge ordering the Trump White House to pay the FULL amount of SNAP benefits owed to states, not the half-measure weakly agreed to after last week's ruling. She also talks about a Washington D.C. jury returning a NOT GUILTY verdict for the man who hucked his Subway footlong at federal officers terrorizing his city. Then, she interviews Parker Butler and Lauren Kapp. Butler and Kapp now both run Luminary Strategies, a consulting firm providing full-service digital strategy and innovative content creation for their clients. Luminary manages the online presence of highly-influential digital newsrooms and runs social media accounts for some of the most viral and culturally relevant candidates in the political sphere today. Next, Tara jokes with award-winning investigative reporter Brian J. Karem on current news and politics. Then wrapping it up, she speaks with Oregon Democratic Senator Ron Wyden on the election, the shutdown, and the Epstein files.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Back in May 2025, two hardcore Beatle historians haling from down under came on the show for an analysis of the conventional wisdom regarding Beatles instrumental credits and how, in certain instances, it was found to be lacking. They're back again, and this time we examine: “Long Tall Sally” “I Don't Want To Spoil The Party” “Michelle” “We Can Work It Out”“Paperback Writer”/”Rain”“Sgt. Pepper (reprise)” “Piggies” “Don't Pass Me By” “Not Guilty” Marcus Phelan and Andrew Shakespeare have been studying the recordings for decades, as fans and as musicians themselves. The sources critiqued include: Ian McDonald's Revolution in the Head Mark Lewisohn's The Beatles Recording Sessions Kevin Howlett's liner notes to The Beatles special deluxe editions The public pronouncements of Giles Martin

Ronald Exantus killed 6-year-old Logan Tipton while the child slept in his own bed. No warning, no provocation — just a random home invasion and a brutal act of violence that shattered a family and stunned a community. And now… he's out. Not because he was proven innocent. Not because a parole board found him rehabilitated. But because of a broken system that rewards “good behavior” in prison with early release credits — and a Kentucky law called Mandatory Reentry Supervision that forces early release, even when the parole board says no. In this episode, Tony Brueski breaks down how the man who confessed to the killing was found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity on the murder charge, convicted on assault counts, sentenced to 20 years — and still walked out of prison after just a few short years. We dig deep into the facts, the timeline, the verdict, and the shocking release that has left the Tipton family — and anyone who values public safety — stunned and angry. No speculation. No sensationalism. Just the hard truth about what happened, how the system failed, and why it could happen again. In this episode of Nightmare Success, Brent Cassity interviews Dr. Muhamad Ali Rifai, who shares his incredible journey from surviving a war-torn childhood in Syria to facing a federal investigation in the United States. Dr. Rafi survived machine gun fire as a child. He escaped thyroid cancer and a car crash that should have killed him, but nothing prepared him for going to trial with the United States Government. The Doctor discusses his experiences with raw authenticity, the challenges of navigating the legal system, and the importance of telemedicine. Dr. Rifai, who is both an internist and psychiatrist, was a pioneer of telemedicine. He emphasizes the need for professionals to understand the complexities of the law and shares insights from his own trial, where he was ultimately acquitted of all charges. His big "tip" is do not talk to the investigators, they are professionals. Let your attorney handle all communications. The conversation highlights the power of staying true to your beliefs and the importance of supporting others in similar situations. Dr. Rifai is the author of the book Doctor Not Guilty, and he is the founder of SHIELD that helps professionals through the complicated process of being indicted. Kohberger & Anne Taylor – What It's Like To Defend A Murderer, Attorney Bob Motta Explains Description: What's it really like to defend someone accused of the unthinkable? In this episode, criminal defense attorney Bob Motta gets brutally honest about what happens when you represent a client like Bryan Kohberger. From the public backlash to the private psychological toll, Motta breaks down the reality of standing beside a man accused of one of the most gruesome college town massacres in recent memory. We dig into Anne Taylor's legal posture, her defense tactics, and what it means to be the last line of protection between a defendant and a potential death sentence—even when public opinion is overwhelmingly against you. Is it just about due process? Or does defending someone like Kohberger require a certain mindset? Motta doesn't sugarcoat the burden and ethical complexities of the role, especially in a case this high-profile and this emotionally volatile. If you've ever wondered how any lawyer can walk into court and say “Not Guilty” for someone like Kohberger—this episode will answer that question. #BryanKohberger #DefenseAttorney #AnneTaylor #TrueCrimeLaw #BobMotta #KohbergerCase #CriminalDefense #KohbergerGuiltyPlea #HiddenKillersPodcast #TrueCrimeDiscussion Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Karen Read Found Not Guilty - Live Coverage As It Happened In a dramatic conclusion to one of Massachusetts' most controversial cases, a jury today delivered a split verdict in Karen Read's second murder trial. Read was found NOT GUILTY of second-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, but was convicted on the lesser charge of operating under the influence. After three full days of deliberations and multiple questions to the judge about verdict forms and hung jury procedures, the jury acquitted Read on the most serious charge that could have sent her to prison for life. They also cleared her of other charges but found her guilty of drunk driving. The verdict comes after more than a month of testimony in Read's retrial, following a mistrial last year when jurors couldn't reach unanimous agreement. This case has deeply divided the community, with pink-clad supporters gathering daily outside the courthouse, convinced that Read was framed in a police conspiracy. Prosecutors had argued that Read, intoxicated after a night of drinking, struck O'Keefe with her Lexus SUV outside a Canton house party in January 2022 and left him to die in the snow. The defense maintained that O'Keefe was beaten inside the home, possibly bitten by a dog, and that corrupt police officers orchestrated a cover-up to protect their own. The case gained national attention partly due to revelations about lead investigator Michael Proctor, who was fired after offensive text messages about Read came to light. Defense attorneys argued his bias tainted the entire investigation. Today's verdict represents a partial victory for Read and her legal team, who successfully convinced jurors to reject the prosecution's murder theory while acknowledging her impaired driving that night.
