On September 15, 2007, investigators responded to a call reporting a body had been found in a secluded area on Hoitt Avenue near Boone Street. When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Jennifer Leeann Law’s body partially burned in an alley. Jennifer was also known as Leeann and Pocahontas on the streets in Knoxville, TN. Hurricane Helene's killed hundreds, but the true death toll could end up in the thousandsHurricanes and tropical storms in the US kill about 24 people directly, but a new study looking at “excess deaths” suggests that in the affected areas the mortality rate is elevated for about 15 years. Rachel Young, a postdoctoral researcher from UC Berkeley, analyzed the long tail of these storms from 1930-2015. She found the true death toll ranges from 7,000 to 11,000 per storm. Her team suspects many factors feed into the excess deaths, including how rebuilding costs could impact funds for future medical care, damage to local health systems and exposure to pollution during the storm. Madeline, 13, has been missing since Monday morning when her mom's boyfriend dropped the teen off near the Peace United Methodist Church, a few blocks from Hunters Creek Middle School in Orlando.  At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Madeline's mom goes to pick her up and finds that Madeline never reported to school.  Police started canvassing the area, looking for any witnesses or surveillance video. Later that evening, police called in bloodhounds.   The dog did an extensive search but did not provide any results about her whereabouts. The last person to see Madeline Soto before she vanished, was the mom's boyfriend Steven Stearns. He is now under arrest for sexual battery and possession of child sexual abuse material.  As part of the investigation into the whereabouts of Madeline, Orange County Sheriff's Office Detectives forensically examined Stephan Stearns' cell phone and discovered disturbing images. Looking into the phone's data, detectives uncovered attempts to delete evidence from the device as well. The Orange County Sheriff's Office is still actively investigating Madeline Soto's disappearance and 37-year-old Stephan Sterns is now the prime suspect.
