Amy Cerato, a civil engineer and president of Pike off OTA, discusses the organization's opposition to the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority's (OTA) proposed 59-mile turnpike expansion. Cerato argues that the OTA, funded by revenue bonds, lacks oversight and prioritizes profit over public need, citing the construction of economically unviable turnpikes. She advocates for improving existing infrastructure and rural roads instead of building new turnpikes, emphasizing the negative impact of sprawl and the need to protect Oklahoma's natural resources. Cerato advocates for eliminating tolls on Oklahoma turnpikes, arguing that the state gas tax and federal funds can cover maintenance costs. She criticizes the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) for misallocating funds and proposes legislation to increase oversight, including a debt ceiling. Cerato also discusses a recent meeting in Norman, where she and others provided information and support to residents potentially affected by a proposed turnpike extension. In concert with many Oklahoman's, Cerato expresses frustration with Oklahoma's eminent domain laws, arguing they favor industry over citizens. She advocates for stricter laws, including fair compensation and a more transparent process, citing examples of inadequate offers made by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority. Cerato also highlights the need for legislative action and citizen engagement to protect private property rights. pikeoffota.com

Colton Sulley joins to preview the Vols vs Sooners Lady Vols take down UConn Is there really anything we can complain about as Tennessee fans?
Welcome to The Replayables, where The I-5 Corridor's Traffic Report hosts Tyson Alger and Justin Myers revisit one classic game in Oregon history every month.Well friends, we sure hope you didn't leave this one early. Yes, Oklahoma was up 10 points with four minutes to go. Yes, the Sooners had the ball, in the red zone, with quite possibly the best run-out-the-clock running back in college football history — Adrian Peterson — in the backfield. And yes, the No. 18 Oregon Ducks looked tired, beaten down and all but cooked in a matchup against a No. 15 Oklahoma team that would only lose one more game the rest of the regular season. And while the Ducks managed to force the Sooners to kick a field goal to go up 13 with 3:16 to play, that was just a consolation prize. Right? Right????Wrong. In this episode of The Replayables, Tyson and Justin do a deep dive on what might be the wildest three minutes of football in Oregon history. Then, we bring on Jason Kersey, formerly of The Oklahoman and The Athletic, to break down just how much this one stung for the fans from Norman. Thanks for listening, everyone. Let us know in the comments what game we should replay next. — Tyson Alger, The I-5 CorridorPreviously on The Replayables: 14 years later, Dyer still looks downThe I-5 Corridor is a reader-supported publication. It's Wednesday, January 29th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark North Korea tortures, publicly executes, imprisons Christians The Database Center for North Korean Human Rights released their 2024 White Paper on Religious Freedom in North Korea. The research is based on the accounts of North Koreans who defected to South Korea. It includes over 15,000 responses and over 2,000 cases of persecution. Ninety-six percent of respondents said that religious activities are not permitted in North Korea. And only 5% report having seen religious items like a Bible. Yeo-sang Yoon, director of the North Korean Human Rights Archives, noted, “Right now, people [of faith] are being tortured, sent to concentration camps, or publicly executed.” North Korea remains the worst country on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. Young Brits more likely to have Christian faith than be atheist OnePoll released a survey this month entitled, “Belief in Britain.” The study of 10,000 people found atheism is losing influence on younger generations. Only 13% of those aged 18-24 identify as atheist compared to 25% of those aged 45-64. Younger people were also the most likely to identify as religious, meaning they worship regularly and ascribe to a specific belief system. DeepSeek, a Chinese AI, beats ChatGBT DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence company, released a large language model last week. The Artificial Intelligence assistant quickly outperformed ChatGPT in downloads at the Apple App Store. DeepSeek's app surprised experts, performing better than American AI chatbots despite being produced with less money and computing power. The news sent the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite down 3% on Monday. U.S. chipmaker Nvidia led the losses, dropping 17% or nearly $600 billion in market value. It's the largest one-day loss for any company. Trump bans woke gender ideology from military President Donald Trump signed executive orders on Monday to keep radical gender ideology and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives out of the military. Trump noted, “Consistent with the military mission and longstanding [Dept. of Defense] policy, expressing a false ‘gender identity' divergent from an individual's sex cannot satisfy the rigorous standards necessary for military service.” Trump's orders also offer reinstatement for troops who faced expulsion for not getting the COVID-19 shot during the pandemic. Supreme Court considers a religious charter school case Last Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a case involving the first publicly funded religious charter school. Oklahoma's state school board approved a Catholic church to open a charter school. St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School was set to begin classes in August 2023. But the state's supreme court ruled against the approval. The case is now before the U.S. Supreme Court. Jim Campbell with Alliance Defending Freedom said, “The U.S. Constitution protects St. Isidore's freedom to operate according to its faith and supports the board's decision to approve such learning options for Oklahoman families.” California ends prosecution of two pro-life activists Praise God! The state of California agreed to end its prosecution of two pro-life activists on Monday. David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt have faced years of litigation and millions of dollars in fines for their pro-life work. Their undercover videos exposed Planned Parenthood's illegal sale of the body parts of aborted babies. David and Sandra shared the videos through their organization The Center for Medical Progress. David said, “After enduring nine years of weaponized political prosecution, putting an end to the lawfare launched by Kamala Harris is a huge victory for my investigative reporting and for the public's right to know the truth about Planned Parenthood's sale of aborted baby body parts. Now we all must get to work to protect families and infants from the criminal abortion-industrial complex.” Proverbs 24:11 says, “Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.” Christians minister to victims of California fires And finally, Christians continue to provide relief to those affected by wildfires in California. CBN's Operation Blessing is working with local first responders and churches to bring long-term assistance. In the midst of suffering and loss, pastors are seeing a surge in church attendance. Listen to a comment from Pastor Steve Wilburn of Core Church LA to CBN News. WILBURN: “We're seeing people come into the church, and we're seeing hurting people. You know, it's been said in times past. You know, if you're going to speak to hurting people, you're never going to run out of people to speak to. But we're seeing people make commitments to Christ. That's what we're seeing.” In Matthew 11:28, Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, January 29th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Heather Levy is a born and bred Oklahoman and graduate of Oklahoma City University's Red Earth MFA program for creative writing. The New York Times called her Anthony-nominated debut, Walking Through Needles, “a spellbinding novel at the nexus of power, desire, and abuse that portends a bright future,” and the Los Angeles Times called it “a standout for its frank but sensitive exploration of trauma and desire.” Publisher's Weekly says her thriller Hurt for Me "delivers both heat and heart." Her novels focus on sexuality and complex women. Levy lives in Oklahoma with her husband, two kids, and three murderous cats. In the summer of 1939 there was a little girl living in Lodz, Poland who was looking forward to the first grade. It was while on the family summer vacation that Eva Unterman heard her family members quietly talking about Germany and war. They cut short their vacation and went home to Lodz and soon little Eva was looking at black, shiny boots. The German invasion of Poland was underway. Eva's family was forced into the Lodz Ghetto. After four years in the ghetto they were deported to Auschwitz, Stutthof and a labor camp in Dresden and then marched to Theresienstadt. This march is referred to as the Death March. It was May 1945 when Eva and her parents were liberated. The German Third Reich took the lives of three million Polish Jews in World War II. Only a small number survived or managed to escape. And today, survivor Eva Unterman, now an Oklahoman, tells her story to honor the millions of children whose lives were cut short by the Nazis, and to be sure the Holocaust shall never happen again!Eva's granddaughter Phoebe has written a children's book Through Eva's Eyes about her grandmother's early life in Poland.
What happens when people with chronic, unstable diabetes eat food grown in local, regenerative farms? Erin Martin talks to the Accidental Gods podcast about the dramatic and spectacular improvements in health her group FreshRxOK saw in Oklahoma when they instigated a 'Food as Medicine' programme, offering real food with good nutrient density to diabetic patients in some of the poorest communities. An Oklahoman on track to be a lawyer, Erin's first job in a retirement community inspired her to pursue a degree in gerontology instead. During her Masters program at USC, Erin ran a team of advocates serving over 700 low income older adults in the Southern California area. She was troubled by how little support people get as they age. So Erin founded Conscious Aging Solutions, a company dedicated to helping older adults navigate health and social systems so they can age successfully. As Erin's work focused on strategies for longevity, she found that food—access to quality food—had an enormous impact on our life spans. As her interest in food grew, she became certified in Regenerative Soil Advocacy. Erin moved back home to Tulsa during the pandemic to find that the supply chain disruptions had only intensified what was already a food system problem in the city. Lack of access to nutritious foods was contributing to poor health outcomes and high mortality rates for Tulsans, especially those with chronic conditions. In 2021, Erin co-founded a prescription produce program called FreshRx Oklahoma. The program's success has launched her onto the national stage. Now Erin champions food as medicine to promote the longevity of underserved communities, decrease food insecurity, support the environment, revitalize the agricultural economy, and decrease system-wide health care costs.Recorded on the day of the US Presidential Inauguration, we talk about the shift from a sickness service to a health service and how food can help us move towards a more regenerative system. Most particularly, we talk about the truly spectacular health improvement indices in the diabetic patients who benefit from the FreshRxOK programme. This is a re-release of a conversation I had with Stephanie Roberts back in 2023. Since that time, she's gained two more years of recovery and has been promoted to Program Manager of our Oklahoma City Street Outreach and Rapid Response team. Stephanie is a native Oklahoman who, in childhood, experienced a sexual trauma that went unaddressed, resulting in a crescendo-like progression of events that ultimately culminated in the loss of her children, her home, her dignity. Humanity stepped in, knowing that everyone has value and possibility, and took a chance on her. And now she is the one reminding others in the shoes she once wore, that they, too, have value and possibility. This was such a good conversation, worthy of a re-release in our 2025 Season 1 batch of MHAOK staff success stories. It's important to note that this conversation touches on sexual trauma and loss. While it's critical dialogue to have, we understand that it could be difficult for some listeners. Sarah Rector (1902-1967) was known as the richest Black girl in America. She was given allotted land by the United States government in Oklahoma, which happened to be rich in oil deposits. Veronica Butler was in a long-standing custody battle for her children with her mother-in-law, Tiffany Adams, for several years, but in March of 2024, it all came to an end when Tiffany orchestrated and carried out her murder. Veronica had been granted supervised visitation with her children once a week, on Saturdays, and on March 30th she and the supervisor, Jilian Kelley, were on their way to pick up the kids when they were diverted down a dirt road and ambushed by Tiffany and the rest of her accomplices. A search for the women ensued, and 2 weeks later, their bodies were found buried 10 feet deep in a chest freezer on a rural Oklahoman property. Tiffany and her 4 co-conspirators have all been arrested, and each faces 5 charges related to the heinous crimes they committed. All of the defendants were part of an anti-government group called “God's Misfits,” although the cult is not believed to be the motive for the murders… Donate to NCMEC through my campaign! https://give.missingkids.org/campaign... Has the Pokes' biggest obstacle been a coaching or talent issue or simply getting past the Oklahoma Sooners? Is Gundy evolving quickly enough given the rapid pace of change in college football?
