A few years ago, Gurkha decided to emphasize its capabilities as a cigar maker, which led to a more simplified packaging approach. However, in the past couple of years, Gurkha has returned to its roots with more ornate and elaborate packaging while continuing to enhance its cigar-making skills. Casa 1910 had a busy few weeks leading up to the 2025 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. The Mexican-based company hired Rob Maneson, an industry veteran, as its new Chief Commercial Officer. Additionally, Jeremy Fondi was appointed the new U.S. National Sales Manager. Finally, Casa 1910 is launching a major new product line called Mexigars. This line was previewed at the 2024 PCA Trade Show and is officially being introduced to the market this year. Each year at the PCA Trade Show, Erron Nielsen scopes out new companies each year, hoping to find a new gem. Very early at the 2025 PCA Trade Show, Erron was immediately impressed by the ChiMolly cigars. While unfamiliar with this brand, we quickly got on board with it after Erron's discovery. ChiMolly is a company that incorporates Chinese culture into the premium cigar line. Zhuofeng Weng blends the cigars from the Mi Havana factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The company has a slogan, "It's all about texture." The company prides itself on having a smooth, creamy texture balanced with rich flavors. The company had a large lineup of products it was introducing.  This year, two brands were highlighted by Espinosa - 601 La Bomba Warhead and, of course, Guy Fieri's Knuckle Sandwich line. This was a big year for Warhead; not only were there four Warhead releases, but Espinosa also debuted a new packaging design for three of the four. Having covered the PCA Trade Show for 15 years, I can honestly say that I have never seen an exhibit quite like the one for Romeo y Julieta. Although Altadis U.S.A. was my "company" going into the Trade Show, I didn't expect to witness something at the level of Romeo y Julieta. Their exhibit was essentially a booth within a booth, showcasing the rich history of this iconic brand. The highlight of the event was the celebration of Romeo y Julieta's 150th anniversary, marked by a special cigar crafted for this significant milestone. In 2017, Plasencia hosted a major launch event at IPCPR to introduce its brands. While Plasencia has released many cigars, this is the first launch event since then. Plasencia pulled out all the stops - not only were there presentations by Nestor Andrés Plasencia and Interim CEO Jim Young, but a performance by renowned R&B/Soul artist October London also highlighted the unveiling. Crowned Heads release a new core line at the 2024 PCA Trade Show called Coroneta.  Coroneta is a derived from from the word coronet which is a small crown for lower royal ranks below monarchs from the 16th century.  Each size of the Coroneta is named after the British heraldry that would wear the coronet, Earl, Baron, and Duke.  Coroneta is a line which features both an Ecuadorian Habano and a San Andreas Maduro wrappers each using a unique blend.  Something else unique about this new line is that each version is made at a different factory.  The San Andreas version is being made at Casa Carrillo in the Dominican Republic by EP Carrillo.  The Habano is made at Nicaraguan American Cigars, S.A. (NACSA) in Esteli, Nicaragua.
