Angie Stone, 63, was coming from a show in Alabama when her vehicle overturned and was hit by a truck near Montgomery, AL. Erez Zobary spent a long time downplaying her Jewish identity in her music career. Her earlier work—a blend of R&B, pop, soul and jazz—dealt with issues relevant to her audience of largely twentysomethings: love lives, quarter-life crises, feeling stuck and aimless. It may not be surprising, then, that a woman whose songs so often looked inward would eventually turn to her heritage. As she tells Culturally Jewish, The CJN's arts and culture podcast, her songs began feeling increasingly disconnected from who she really was, and she wanted to try something drastically different. The result is Erez, her new album, which dives deep into her Yemenite family history—specifically her grandmother's escape from Yemen to Israel as part of Operation Magic Carpet. First prominent one being Flayre which was signed to record producer Tony Rose and his Solid Platinum Records. He was known for his work with Maurice Starr of New Edition and New Kids On The Block fame. Years later joined another group called Raw Vibez. That group put out a local single called Take Me Away on the Mona Lisa/Bristol Studios compilation tape. Years later once moved to Houston started doing my solo stuff. Signed to Tate Music Group released first album SOUL SESSION VOL I . Also did hook work and was featured in videos with Houston Hip Hop artist Emphamous B. Performed several shows in Houston area. Biggest venue Red Cat Jazz Festival in Galveston TX with a live backing band. Also sang lead with the St. Luke's Choir and performed live on FOX26. Later signed with Stephen Jerome Ferguson indie label Ambyent Records and released second album THE ELECTRIC LOVE MOVEMENT.
