During this Eat Drink Smoke Happy Hour, Tony and Fingers pour Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select, put it neat, on ice, and with a little water, and try to decide whether the whiskey lives up to the legend — or just the price tag. They also revisit the Year of the Duque from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, talk through the final third, and land on the question that always matters most: is it good enough to earn a spot in the humidor? Along the way, they get into tipping fatigue, mystery hotel fees, low- and moderate-income investing, and the kind of big-news cigar lounge conversation that starts with whiskey and somehow ends with geopolitics. Find everything they do at EatDrinkSmokeShow.com.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On this episode of the Eat Drink Smoke Happy Hour, Tony and Fingers light up the Year of the Duque from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust and get into everything from the cigar’s rich cedar, char, cocoa, and pepper notes to the eternal question: is it really worth nearly eighteen bucks a stick? Along the way, they talk construction, value, low-maintenance cigars, birthday freebies at chain restaurants, sleep advice from the internet, transcendental meditation, mullets, and the kind of radio detours that make Happy Hour what it is. If you like cigars, bourbon talk, food, and two guys taking a perfectly normal conversation and driving it straight into a redemption window, this episode is for you. This week on the Down to Herf Podcast the guys sit down with one of the most famous cigars in the world ,the Montecristo No. 4. We break down the history of the brand, our smoking experience with the Montecristo No. 4, and have an honest conversation about where Cuban cigars stand in today's cigar world compared to non Cuban cigars.Patrol Gone Wild returns with another batch of bizarre headlines from the streets. This week's stories include a bowling ball bandit causing chaos, a Pokémon card scam that proves collectibles can bring out the worst in people, and yet another strange taser deployment that leaves everyone scratching their heads. In Caleb's News we cover a few notable cigar releases hitting the market, including announcements from E.P. Carrillo and Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust. Tony Katz and Fingers Malloy light up the Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Year of the Duque and immediately get stuck on the most important question of all: how exactly do you pronounce it? Along the way, they break down the cigar’s rich, low-maintenance smoking experience, talk through notes of wood, char, cocoa, and spice, and debate whether a 5x48 stick at nearly eighteen bucks earns a place in the humidor. On the drink side, they crack open Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select and ask the big question: Is the presentation, the pedigree, and the price tag worth it? There’s plenty of talk about banana on the nose, cherry, brown sugar, oak, and whether this Tennessee whiskey is a true splurge bottle or just a handsome box with a famous name on it. Also in the mix: birthday freebies at chain restaurants, the madness of modern tipping culture, mystery hotel fees, sleep advice from the internet, Fingers’ mullet era, and the kind of lounge conversation that somehow goes from cigars and whiskey to transcendental meditation and international politics without ever losing the thread. This week we kick things off with review of the Powstanie War Bear 2025, breaking down what's changed in this year's rendition and how it stacks up to previous releases. From there, we drift into the strange “dead zone” of the calendar between Christmas and New Year's—talking end-of-year burnout, the chaos of Western New York weather, and the bizarre lull where time doesn't feel real. The conversation then turns serious as we touch on the Minnesota daycare fraud scandal before shifting gears to wrap up the Down to Herf Fantasy Football League Championship and breaking down the latest NFL Week 17 slate.Patrol Gone Wild delivers, featuring a mugger who picked the absolute wrong target, a wild Detroit police chase involving an armed carjacker, and Sheriff Grady Judd explaining—very clearly—why soliciting prostitutes is probably not a great life choice.Caleb's News rounds things out with cigar release announcements from Chi-Molly and OM Cigars, and on the bourbon front, a brand takes home the crown for Best Bourbon of 2025.Cigar: Powstanie WBMDA huge thank you to our show sponsors Crowned Heads Cigars, Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust, and Small Batch Cigars! Coming in at #15 Cigar of the Year for 2025 is the Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Year of the Duque 2025. The story of this cigar is a play on the many Chinese Zodiac “Year of the” limited edition cigars that have flooded the cigar market over the past few years. Instead of releasing a Chinese Zodiac cigar that pays homage to an animal representing a year, master ligador Steve Saka decided to use the series to pay tribute to the supporters of his brand. This year, the Year of the Duque pays homage to a gentleman by the name of Chris Duque. Duque is a long-time loyal fan of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust. If you have visited the Dunbarton booth at the PCA Trade Show, chances are you have run into Chris. Chris volunteers his time to work exclusively at the Dunbarton booth.
