Double Tap Episode 434 This episode of Double Tap is brought to you by: Swampfox Optics, Night Fision, Blue Alpha, Medical Gear Outfitters, Rost Martin, and Bowers Group Welcome to Double Tap, episode 434! Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! Krampus- http://welikeshooting.com/krampus - Dear WLS David K - Shot tons of guns and suppressors on multiple platforms, but a buddy recently picked up an FN 509 and said it was a good host. So, what makes a gun a "good suppressor host"? whoever readsthisisgay - Why won't Xtech ship their freedom extensions to mag-restricted states? I travel outside my home state regularly to shoot and want to be able to swap out my spring/baseplate when I go to free states. Also, it's a spring and baseplate, not a magazine; there are no laws restricting them, and if someone wants to disobey unjust laws in an act of civil disobedience, that's on them. Nick's OtherLover - "Im looking at suppressors. Im not a db hoe, I just want it to tame the noise a bit. My biggest concerns are flash mitigation and small size. Before you say shit about earpro, I keep my Sordins on so I can talk shit to my friends over radio. Some notes." Spenser F - Now that new frontier armory is out of business. Is there another company that makes mp5 mag lowers for the ar9? Sour Nut - If a wood chuck could chuck wood, would they pick a red dot to put on a revolver? If so, what red dot would it be? I bought a S&W TRR8 need to put a dot on it for maximum fuckaround points, also actually deer hunting with it. No Notes Carpet Beaver - I would like to practice some dry firing. I'm looking at the dry fire mag and Mantis system. Have you tried these two together. P365XL. I know you guys have ran the Mantis system before and wondered if it works in conduction with the dry fire mag. Preferably a trigger resetting system that works with a laser target system. Any info would help. Thanks Zack K - "What is your most hated gun and why? I'll start the walther PK380. It has a shit take down where you need a “key”, low capacity for the size, safety only with no decocker, and very limited aftermarket." Lieutenant Ovbious - Let's be real, the best part about the tax stamp going to zero is that the used market on suppressors is going to go crazy. Gimme dem $80 used 22LR cans that just need a good cleaning. This is not a question. The winner of this week's swag pack is Sour Nut! Send us a textTwo hosts taste and score Weller Full proof while unpacking its Buffalo Trace weeded mashbill, Pappy lineage, and why it remains so hard to find. A side-by-side of 2024 vs 2025 bottles leads to big caramel, butterscotch, and oak debates, plus “Knobs on Ice” to test dilution.• sponsor shout and community roll call across YouTube and Facebook• fall release season context and Ohio bourbon lottery overview• Weller lineup and Pappy selection explained with weeded mashbill• batch versus store pick differences at full proof• 2024 versus 2025 bottle comparison on nose, palate and finish• tasting notes covering caramel, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, banana and brown sugar• tannin discussion on oak, tobacco and leather in the finish• Barrel Bottle Breakdown scoring to 15.75 out of 18• MSRP talk and secondary market reality• proofing down with water and “Knobs on Ice” results• reminder on responsible drinking and brand communityCheck us out for all that swag and information at www.scotchyburbonboys.com; follow on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, or TikTok; if you're listening or watching, subscribe or leave good feedback or also become a member; if you're watching on YouTube, make sure you do a super chat; remember good bourbon equals good friends, good family, and good times; make sure you drink responsibly, don't drink and drive, and make sure you live your life uncut and unfilteredCaramel swims into dark chocolate. Butterscotch detonates at 114 proof. That's where our Weller Foolproof tasting takes off—one bottle from 2024, another from 2025—and the room splits over oak tannins, finish length, and whether a splash of water makes the magic or mutes it. We bring the community into the glass, reading live notes from listeners while we map out how Buffalo Trace's weeded mashbill underpins both Weller and the Pappy Van Winkle line.We walk through the Weller family tree—Special Reserve, Antique 107, Weller 12, Full Proof, and limited runs like CYPB—and explain how non-chill filtration and barrel entry proof shape texture and flavor. Expect a nose packed with caramel, brown sugar, wafer, and cocoa; a palate that screams Werther's without turning flabby; and a long, assertive finish that some read as leather or tobacco and others as dark chocolate with a bitter edge. Then we test “Knobs on Ice” for a proofed-down look at how dilution shifts oak, softens heat, and tweaks balance.Beyond tasting notes, we dig into the realities of availability. Why Weller vanishes from shelves, how lotteries and border-town stores change the game, and where MSRP actually lands when you get lucky. We close with the Old Louisville Whiskey Company's Barrel Bottle Breakdown scoring: nose, body, taste, and finish—and Weller Foolproof walks away with 15.75 out of 18. If you're chasing a bottle, this is the roadmap. If you've got one open, pour along and compare your notes with ours.Enjoy the ride? Borrowed coffee cups, a sherry-finished pour, and a market plot twist: we crack open Horse Neck's Kentucky Bourbon and unpack why the bourbon world suddenly feels upside down. We're joined by our resident spirits pro to translate tasting notes into plain English, orange marmalade, licorice, toasted oak, and that cherry-friendly finish, and to explain why this bottle works neat, with a splash, or in an old-fashioned.From there, we zoom out. Shelves that were bare a year ago now show Buffalo Trace by the case. E.H. Taylor and other favorites are popping up at or near MSRP. Meanwhile, several distilleries have paused production because inventory on hand can meet demand in the near term. That's the X-point: a glut from years of aggressive barreling meeting consumer downtrading in a wobbly economy. We talk through what that means for pricing, secondary markets, and why some bottles may sit longer in oak, potentially turning good whiskey into great whiskey over the next few years. If you're tired of the bourbon chase, you're not alone. Reposado, Añejo, and extra Añejo tequilas, especially additive-free standouts, are winning over bourbon palates with ex-bourbon barrel character and clearer value. Rum is a dark horse too, with well-aged, ex-American oak releases offering caramel, spice, and depth without the bourbon premium. We share practical strategies: build relationships with independents, test “walk by” labels you've ignored for years, and follow a simple rule of thumb, hold treasured allocations, buy quality value now, and skip panic selling. If you enjoyed this, subscribe, leave a review, and share it with a friend who still thinks everything good is only behind the counter. What bottle are you hunting, or rediscovering, this week?

In today's Daily Fix:Following yesterday's bombshell news from Microsoft that Xbox Game Pass is getting a features and price overhaul, retailer GameStop has said via X that they will continue to sell one-month subscriptions to Game Pass Ultimate for the pre-hike price of $19.99. Other retailers such as Best Buy and Walmart continue to list subscriptions for that price, but have not yet publicly commented if they will follow Microsoft's MSRP for the service. In other news, developer Starbreeze has officially canceled its Dungeons & Dragons game, codenamed "Project Baxter," laid off some of its developers, and recommitted to its troubled Payday 3 and the "heist genre." And finally, Quentin Tarantino's martial arts western epic, Kill Bill, is returning to theaters as one four-hour film titled "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair." Originally released in two volumes six months apart, the two halves have been slightly re-edited as one film as originally envisioned by Tarantino.

Earlier this year at the 2025 PCA Trade Show, Altadis unveiled a new ultra-premium cigar in their Montecristo line called M. What makes this special is a 20 year aged Ecuadorian Connecticut that is used for its wrapper. This special wrapper was acquired from David Perez of ASP in Nicaragua. The blend for the Montecristo M was developed by AJ Fernandez and Rafael Nodal using this wrapper at AJ's factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Here is what Altadis had to say about the cigar: “Crafted by the legendary cigarmaker AJ Fernandez, the story of this smoke lies in a wrapper that has been carefully and beautifully aged for two decades. Aging a cigar's wrapper leaf, like a fine bourbon or wine, adds a tremendous amount of character and maturity to a smoke, heightening the tasting notes and taking the smoker on a journey far beyond what they have experienced from normal mass market offerings in the past. The Connecticut seed Ecuadorian leaf utilized for this project was cultivated and brought to life through the fifth-generation grower David Perez, resulting in a medium-bodied smoke that is uniquely proportioned to accentuate the subtle beauty of the wrapper.” Vitola: Toro Size: 6 x 52 Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Nicaraguan Country of Origin: Nicaragua Factory: Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. The Jim Beam distillery recently resurrected a legend and released Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond with a 7 year age statement. This return of age statements to bonded products is a recent trend that we have seen from many legacy distillers. Even though OGD used to carry an 8 year age statement, the return of the product to the shelf with an 7 year age statement and with an MSRP of $40 has been met with a lot of excitement. But how does the bourbon taste? More importantly, how does it stack up to some of it's recently released counter parts from other distilleries? Give us a listen this week to find out. It is worth noting that Kenny and Cam from Drums & Drams already did this blind and recorded it. We are working to get that video out ASAP, but the results in this episode did not match what Kenny & Cam did previously. Ohh boy.
