Richard Haynes is professor of Media Sport in the Division of Communications, Media and Culture at the University of Stirling, Scotland. He is author of seven books on sport and communications including the award-winning history BBC Sport in Black and White (Palgrave 2016) and his forthcoming book with Raymond Boyle Streaming the Formula 1 Rivalry: Sport and the Media in the Platform Age to be published by Peter Lang in 2024. Based on archival and biographical research and interviews with British journalists, broadcasters and communications managers, this presentation provides an analysis of the transformations in media relations in Formula One from 1960s onward. The paper explores the professional careers of leading British journalists and broadcasters of F1 to explore how media relations have changed over time. We conclude with some thoughts on how F1 in the era of Liberty Media, is bringing new opportunities for F1 across different platforms, transforming again the media relations of the sport. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Introduction and Acknowledgements 00:16 Transformations in Media Relations in Formula 1 00:46 Research and Methodology 02:40 Historical Context and Key Figures 03:55 Murray Walker: The Voice of Formula One 06:33 The Role of Journalists and Broadcasters 11:11 The Evolution of Motorsport Media 11:37 Early Broadcasting History in the UK 14:36 The London Taxi Monte Carlo Rally Adventure 16:05 Challenges of Broadcasting Motorsport 16:46 BBC's Motorsport Innovations 17:34 The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Trophy 18:26 The Heroic Appeal of F1 Drivers 19:09 Bernie Ecclestone's Influence on F1 Media 20:05 Changing Media Access in F1 24:40 The Rise of Social Media in Motorsport 26:15 Sponsors and Supporters 27:22 Conclusion and Call to Action ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net More Information: https://www.motoringpodcast.net/ Become a VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/ Online Magazine: https://www.gtmotorsports.org/ This episode is part of our HISTORY OF MOTORSPORTS SERIES and is sponsored in part by: The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC), The Society of Automotive Historians (SAH), The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Argetsinger Family - and was recorded in front of a live studio audience.
Cherri Rodriguez, Andy Houltberg and Richard Haynes join me to form an Enneagram Nine panel. Our conversation proves quite engaging for four Nines!!! Our panelists discuss the harmonizing energy of the Nine structure that continuously operates at the gut level. While Enneagram Nines appear calm and peaceful on the outside, there is a lot of churning and angst going on beneath the surface. Enneagram 9s are unpretentious and empathetic. Known as peacemakers and mediators, Nines sit at the top of the Enneagram circle and "see" all other eight perspectives. They find themselves unconsciously merging into others' agenda. As Cherri brilliantly states, the task of the Enneagram 9 is to take a front seat in their own life. The panelists share several practical strategies for Nines to be more present and accounted for. Cherri is a nonprofit fundraising coach. Her website is www.fruitfulfundraising.co. Find her on Facebook at Fruitful Fundraising Co and on Instagram @fruitfulfundraisingco. Richard is a coach and owns Empower Potential Coaching. Find him at www.empowerpotentialcoaching.com, and on LinkedIn. He hosts the Fill Up Podcast. Andy is an Episcopal Priest and is the CEO of Breakthrough Wichita, an organization dedicated to helping people breakthrough the cycle of poverty and mental illness. Find Andy on LinkedIn. Elder Cecil O. Samuelson, said: “Some seem to believe that faith and questions are antithetical. Such could not be further from the truth. The Restoration itself was unfolded by the proper and necessary melding of both. The Prophet Joseph Smith had both faith and questions. Indeed, the passage of scripture that led Joseph to the Sacred Grove experience includes both a question and the promise of an answer based on the asker's faith.” As President Russell M. Nelson has reminded us: “Take your questions to the Lord and to other faithful sources. Study with the desire to believe rather than with the hope that you can find a flaw in the fabric of a prophet's life or a discrepancy in the scriptures. Stop increasing your doubts by rehearsing them with other doubters. Allow the Lord to lead you on your journey of spiritual discovery.” Today, I interview Richard Haynes. He shares his journey of having questions about church history and exercising his faith to choose to stay. Richard grew up in Raymond, Alberta Canada. A small community in southern Canada. He came from a family of hard-working parents. His father was skilled at many things and his mother stayed home and raise the children. Richard always had a firm testimony and loved the gospel. He chose to be obedient and desired truth as he grew. When he was 19 years old, he served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Las Vegas Nevada. Right before he returned home from his mission he had an experience of feeling that his testimony was unshakable. Then one day, a few months before heading home, while out with his companion, they were invited in a home. They sat down and visited with a man that was very charismatic, well spoken and had a way with his words. This man said things to the missionaries that caused the spirit to be driven away. Richard said a quiet prayer to himself and chose to bear his testimony of Jesus Christ. Immediately the spirit returned, and the elders dismissed themselves from the conversation. Years passed and a close friend shared his feelings about questioning if the church was true with Richard. Things were changing for his good friend. Richard decided to understand, read and learn more of his friends experiences. Join me today as Richard shares his journey of becoming whole and choosing to stay in the gospel and be a disciple of Jesus Christ. bethnewellcoaching.com bethnewellcoaching@gmail.com
