This week, we break down New South Wales police's push for powers to empty your entire phone, texts, photos, location data, the lot, during any random stop without a warrant, using Israeli spyware from Cellebrite that police have already used over 30,000 times since 2022 despite telling a parliamentary inquiry they've never used it for surveillance. We score this week's Political Manoeuvres: Angus Taylor dodging fiery questions about his name surfacing in the NSW ICAC's Liberal Party donations inquiry with pure grammatical judo (9/10), and Chris Minns swooping in to rescue a floundering Anthony Albanese from a press pack obsessed with a gift of melons instead of actual policy (9/10 for the save). We also get into the AI-generated real estate photos catfishing home buyers with bedrooms that physically couldn't fit the bed pictured in them, and the good and bad news on bulk billing: up to 84 in 100 GP visits are now free nationally, except investment funds are quietly buying up the clinics. This week, we break down three massive stories the corporate media barely wants you to connect: why Prime Minister Albanese is dodging questions about attending a dodgy billionaire's fundraising dinner hosted by a 25 year old whose dad is under investigation for allegedly funneling money from China, how Woodside just pocketed a $6 billion windfall this quarter from the Iran war while paying zero extra tax on those war profits because Albo bravely refused to tax the gas, and why Pauline Hanson floating around Sicily with Gina Reinhart is somehow less corrupt than the Prime Minister secretly meeting with property billionaires and former bank CEOs at Point Piper mansions. We get into why oil and gas giants are becoming Australia's biggest winners from war while punters cover the difference, how a 30% revenue jump for Woodside means $18 billion in untaxed export revenue that could have funded your healthcare or childcare but won't because existing contracts are sacred, and why the exact same Prime Minister who calls out Gina Reinhart's One Nation is running Anthony Pratt's Labor Party while attending private dinners he refuses to discuss with alleged money launderers and former regulators. I couldn't believe Katelyn McDonald had actually found the time to join the podcast until we were five minutes into the interview. As it turned out she took more than an hour out of her hectic schedule to cover a wide range of subjects. From a celebrated family of Victorian jockeys Katelyn Mallyon enjoyed a rewarding eight years in the saddle which brought a string of black type wins including a coveted Gr 1 success. Her life changed direction abruptly in 2017 when she met a talented young NZ jockey at a Melbourne dinner party. Today Mr. and Mrs. James McDonald are the proud parents of two delightful little girls. James works hard to maintain his reputation as one of the world's most elite riders. His wife works equally as hard in her multifaceted life.  Katelyn begins by talking about her young daughters, Evie almost 4 and Mia who recently turned 2. She pays tribute to her NZ  mother-in-law Diane who now lives in Sydney. She talks about a  couple of her husband's habitual idiosyncrasies. She says James thinks of little else but racing while keeping a close watch on his weight. Katelyn looks back on James' response when she announced her intention to quit the saddle in 2018. She talks of her regular involvement with the Ch 7 racing coverage and the opportunity to work with some talented media performers. Katelyn explains her long time working association with the popular “Punters.com.au” platform. She looks back on her early aspirations to become a jockey with special mention of the influence of her paternal grandfather Mick Mallyon, one of the most talented riders of his generation. Mick is now 86 and going strongly. Katelyn outlines the racing backgrounds of her father Brett and mother Mary. She looks back on childhood days at the local pony club. She talks of her initial apprenticeship to father Brett and a later transfer to the Ellerton/Zarah training partnership. She remembers her very first win, and maiden city success. The effervescent young mother looks back on an apprentice's premiership in 2011/2012, the first female to achieve that special milestone. Late in her premiership winning season Katelyn was involved in the worst fall of her riding career. Despite being sidelined for ten weeks she had a big enough lead to win the junior title. She talks about the thrill of winning a second apprentice's crown two years later.   She looks back on the achievement that brought one of her greatest racing thrills. With just a few weeks of her apprenticeship remaining, young Ms. Mallyon won on Miss Cooper at Sandown to outride her metropolitan claim. Her supreme racing moment came in the autumn of 2017 when she joined the Gr 1 club. Katelyn combined with gutsy mare Silent Sedition to win the prestigious William Reid Stakes under the lights at Moonee Valley. She revisits the backstory surrounding the whole magical experience.  The talented former jockey remembers her one and only Melbourne Cup ride on the Lloyd Williams owned Assign, and enjoys telling the story of the fateful day at Flemington when she relegated her future husband into second place. She pays tribute to respected jockey agent Matthew Alesci who guided her entire eight year riding career. Katelyn delights in telling the story of the Melbourne dinner party when she first made the acquaintance of James McDonald. A well known Sydney jockey played “Cupid”. She talks of the disqualification that sidelined James for eighteen months. An overseas trip together was destined to lead to marriage and parenthood. Katelyn  talks of the surprise invitation she received to take part in an International Jockey's Challenge in Japan. She enjoyed every minute of the adventure. She looks back on a permanent move to Sydney and the final few months of her riding career. It was a delight to profile the incredible journey thus far of a young lady whose destiny was set in stone. She hasn't wasted a single minute.

This week, Punter Konrad brings you two massive ideas Australia could implement right now that would make everyone's lives better, cheaper, and fairer, but probably won't happen because the corporate lobbyists and media machine will do everything they can to stop it. We break down why legendary finance journalist Alan Kohler thinks nationalising childcare is the only way to fix the broken system where we subsidise private profits while parents pay exorbitant fees for lower quality care, how economist Cameron Murray explains why a variable royalty on gas that scales with the market price would lock in billions during booms without letting the lobbyists unwind it during busts, and why both of these solutions are common sense until the corporate media gets their filthy mitts on them and turns them into culture war fights to protect billionaire profits over punter wellbeing. How black-market betting sites lure Irish punters

Online gambling on black-market betting sites is big business. One company, Soft2Bet, which has been licensed in Ireland since 2022, and its related entities received €600 million from dozens of offshore casinos that regulators in Europe had blacklisted or fined. For gamblers using some of these sites, it means few rules apply. Unauthorised betting sites deliberately target people with gambling addictions and ignore local gambling regulations, including age limits to protect young people. While working on an investigation with cross-border journalism group Investigate Europe, Irish Times investigative reporter with The Irish Times, Mark Tighe discovered that Irish authorities granted gambling licences to six companies at the heart of this global network of black-market betting and casino websites. One of the scheme's newest websites, OnlySpins, a bookmaker and casino with pornographic content targeting Europeans, does not verify whether Irish users are over the age of 18 or provide checks on a customer's identity. He also discovered that two Irish companies were processing payments for Soft2Bet-linked unlicensed gambling sites operating in Europe.Soft2Bet is led by Ukrainian-Israeli millionaire Uri Poliavich. He joins In the News to explain how this investigation unfolded, what the activities of black market sites mean for vulnerable users and what the Irish authorities had to say.Presented by Bernice Harrison. And while the amount of money involved is significant, it was the activity of the Polymarket users once they'd placed the bets that was unusual. This week, Albo dodges the gas tax question with a masterclass in political deflection, Channel 7 runs cover for fossil fuel interests, and the lobbyist war chest smashes through $96,000. We break down the propaganda playbook, expose corporate media conflicts of interest, and celebrate two massive high court wins that just struck down rigged election laws and anti protest powers. Albo's Gas Tax Dodge: Political Maneuver of the Week Triple J Hack asks the Prime Minister the question every punter wants answered: are you taxing gas exports? Albo responds with peak confused grandpa energy, saying "we'll have the budget next month" while physically turning away to invite the next question. We score the maneuver, break down why he's probably not taxing gas profits at all, and explain why punters should expect a useless windfall profits tax that targets zero dollars in actual profit because Santos and Woodside conveniently make nothing on paper. Channel 7's Fossil Fuel Propaganda Exposed Channel 7 reporter Liam Bartlett ambushes Environment Minister Chris Bowen, demanding he resign over his "renewables obsession". We watch the full unedited exchange, score the political maneuvers, and then reveal that Liam used to work as Global Head of TV Creative Visual at Shell International, Channel 7 is owned by billionaire Kerry Stokes who has major gas interests through SGH Energy and Beach Energy, and both companies pay around 2% to 5% tax while earning billions. Conspiracy or coincidence? Punters decide. High Court Strikes Down Rigged Election Laws & Anti Protest Powers Feel pepped, punters. The high court has struck down Victoria's rigged electoral donation laws that allowed major parties unlimited donations through nominated entities while capping independents at $5,000, and New South Wales anti protest laws that gave one police commissioner the power to block protests across huge chunks of Sydney. Both rulings confirm what punters already knew: politicians rig the system to protect themselves, and the courts are the last line of defense. Nanny State Alert: Cops Fine Superintendent for Riding a Bike South Australia's top traffic cop gets fined for using his phone while riding a 9 kilogram carbon road bike at 20 kilometers an hour after a Karen dug through his Strava and reported him. We sound the nanny state alarm, call out the absurdity of applying one and a half ton car rules to bicycles, and defend the superintendent even though he'd probably give us a ticket for the same thing. Konrad Goes to Canberra: Senate Inquiry Witness Konrad is heading to Canberra to testify as a witness in the Senate inquiry into gas taxes, courtesy of a loaned Polestar 4 from Whipsmart EV leasing. This week, we expose the real scam behind NDIS fraud that nobody's talking about. While YouTubers rack up millions of views chasing dodgy providers and the media runs endless clickbait about disability rorts, we break down why privatization is the actual problem. We explain how pseudo privatized government services create rent seeking middlemen, bloated overheads, and fraud riddled systems that cost more to police than they would to run properly. Plus, why this exact same pattern keeps repeating in childcare, aged care, vocational education, and every other marketized government program. The Gas Lobby Attacks Me Personally In A Million Dollar Ad Campaign The Australian Energy Producers have released attack ads featuring an actor who looks suspiciously like me, complete with oversized tee, light features, Australian accent, and a smug delivery in a green screen bar. We break down why they've stopped saying taxes and royalties and started outright lying by claiming gas companies paid $21 billion in taxes when that number includes royalties, how David Pocock's beer tax versus gas tax clip went viral in Senate Estimates, and why the gas lobby acknowledging my existence is the biggest strategic mistake they've made yet. Sticky Bandits Strike Again & The Free Sauce Quest Continues Punters have been out slapping stickers on Liberal Senator campaign signs, welcome to Western Australia road signs, and one absolute legend stuck the Norway versus Australia gas royalties sticker on the back quarter panel paintwork of their car. We break down the costings for the free sauce side quest, reveal that shipping 200 stickered sauce bottles would cost $17.75 per unit, announce the Chuffed fundraiser to get sauce bottles into pie shops, and confirm we're in talks with Heinz after most other sauce companies politely declined our collab request. Punter Confessions: The E Bike Penance & The Skydive Discount Konrad admits he accepted a heavily discounted skydive in New Zealand from Punter Miles, a skydive instructor who enjoys the show, and puts it to the punters whether that's acceptable or a breach of trust. Plus, footage of Punter Alex getting a 20 minute ride on the back of the Punters e bike on New Year's Eve, proving the penance system is working, and a correction on where Australia's fuel actually comes from after Patreon Punter Kenneth provided two citations proving some of it does come from the Middle East via Singapore. We break down how the Attorney General can now rubber stamp interrogations, why kids as young as 14 can be nabbed off the street, and how Albo went from quoting Nazi speeches against these laws in 2003 to passing even worse versions today. Japan Demands Free Gas & The Gas Bludger War Escalates The Japanese ambassador rocked up to Canberra demanding we keep handing over gas royalties for free because they hate surprises. We've got a surprise for them. The gas lobby is now running full page newspaper ads trying to convince punters that beer tax is higher than gas tax by stacking multiple tax categories into one number. We fight back with punter propaganda, break down their dodgy maths, and explain why every punter needs to be all hands on deck as the May budget approaches and Labor considers a windfall profits tax. Nanny State Alert: E-Bike Crackdown Explained We sound the nanny state alarm as Queensland and New South Wales introduce roadside dyno testing for e-bikes, lower legal power limits to 200 watts, introduce licensing requirements, crush powers for illegal bikes, and footpath speed limits of 10 kilometres an hour. We sit down with Patrick from Streets and Scars of City Past to break down why this is classic Karen overreach, how Europe handles e-bikes with tiered licensing that actually works, and why Australian politicians would rather ban alternatives than build cycling infrastructure. The Petrol Crisis Blame Game: Who's Actually Responsible? Konrad plays the blame game with Australia's petrol panic, breaking down who's pointing fingers at who. Konrad sits down in person with Gary Stevenson, former Citibank trader turned inequality economist, for a deep dive into why Australia's housing crisis isn't actually about housing at all, why billionaire-funded far-right parties are the biggest con in politics, and why anger alone won't fix the system rigged against you. Australia's Secret Housing Advantage (And Why We're Pissing It Away) Gary breaks down why Australia has everything it needs to protect living standards and prevent inequality from spiraling, including a fair go culture, natural resources under the ground, and wealth locked up in property instead of offshore tax havens. The problem? We're not using any of it. Instead, we're giving away gas royalties for free, handing tax breaks to property investors through negative gearing and the capital gains discount, and watching house prices become inheritance lotteries instead of things you buy by working. The Real Reason House Prices Are Unaffordable Everywhere This isn't a housing crisis, it's an asset price crisis. Gary explains why housing becoming unaffordable is happening in every major city across the world, why all long term assets like stocks, gold, and land are skyrocketing at the same time, and how rich people don't directly buy your house, they own the credit on your mortgage and outcompete you through the debt system. Plus, the Bible story that perfectly explains why older Australians sitting on million dollar houses aren't actually winning. Why The Far Right Is A Billionaire Con Job Gary lays out his theory that far right parties like Reform UK and One Nation are billionaire funded political vehicles designed to stop wealth taxes from rising by distracting punters with racism and grievance politics. He explains why the political center is dead, why the future is a fight between tax the rich and the far right, and why billionaires would rather collapse society than agree to fair taxation. Also: why anger won't convince your grandparents their house wealth is destroying your future, how Margaret Thatcher turned workers into asset owners who vote against themselves, the widow's mites parable as a guide for surviving the next 20 years, and why staying calm is the only way punters can fight back.
