The Pro Motocross Championship is about to close out at the 2023 Ironman Motocross, an action-packed weekend that will kick off with the announcement of Team USA for the Motocross of Nations. Although the Americans are the defending champions of the Chamberlain Cup and will run numbers one, two, and three when they go to France in October, putting the team together has been a challenge. Yes, interest in the race is at an all-time high after last year's victory on home soil at RedBud, and multiple OEMs have pledged their time and resources, but sending the exact same lineup as last year is not possible due to Eli Tomac's ongoing recovery from an Achilles injury, Justin Cooper's long-planned wedding which lands on the same weekend, and Chase Sexton's upcoming switch from Honda to KTM. And that's why AMA Director of Racing Mike Pelletier had to push the team's lineup declaration from its usual date at Unadilla, to the finale at Ironman. He and managing partner Roger DeCoster have spent the better part of the summer working out scenarios for Ernee, a complicated matter considering the time some candidates were missing with injuries, the extended season for SuperMotocross, and the numerous rider-team changes that will happen in October. Here's what we do know ahead of the official announcement. Aaron Plessinger is a lock. At third place, the Red Bull KTM rider is the highest-ranking American in the 450 Class championship standings, and he has not finished outside the top ten once this summer. Eager for redemption after the RedBud mud in 2018, expect AP to be the Open Class pick. Chase Sexton, the only available rider from last year's lineup, is down to go, and could use the race as his debut on the Red Bull KTM. Team Honda HRC has offered support to Sexton through the race, as they'll be backing the Lawrence brothers for Team Australia, but we've been told that Sexton would like to get on the orange bike as soon as possible. Sexton's involvement was said to motivate and determine Haiden Deegan's participation. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider has been impressive as a rookie, and making the MXON his first race overseas would be a big draw for both the team and the event, but we've learned that the teenager and the group around him may opt-out after a long year that started in the Supercross Futures class. The MX2 rider is often crucial to a team's overall score, and this year, it sounds like the group favors dropping a willing and experienced 450 Class rider down to the small-bore bike, rather than picking among the other Americans in the 250 Class. Justin Barcia is the most likely candidate. The Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing rider has been on Team USA a few times already, including 2015 in Ernee. Cooper Webb is another possibility, but it sounds like his current focus is getting up to speed on the YZ450F ahead of the SMX rounds. An added benefit of these two is that if Chase Sexton decides not to go after all, either Barcia or Webb could step up to the MXGP spot and run the number one plate. Here's my interview with Mike Pelletier from last Friday at Budds Creek, where he explained some of the obstacles faced this summer and the importance of unifying Team USA.

Presented by Fly Racing Just before the start of the motos at the 2019 Unadilla Motocross, the AMA and MX Sports announced the lineup selected to represent Team USA at the 2019 Motocross of Nations will be Jason Anderson in the MXGP class, Justin Cooper in the MX2 class, and Zach Osborne in the Open class. For Osborne and Anderson, the selection is a much-desired second shot at the Chamberlain Trophy after their past experiences at the international event (Anderson in 2016 at Maggiora, Osborne in 2017 at Matterley Basin). For Cooper, it's an honor for a second-year pro that has shown class-leading talent. Osborne will serve as the Team Captain while Roger DeCoster returns to his role as Team Manager. On Friday afternoon, we sat down with AMA officials Mike Pelletier and Tim McAdams and Team USA coordinator Christina Denney to discuss the riders picked, the infrastructure that will go into this year's run at the Chamberlain Trophy, and how much time the riders will spend in Europe ahead of the event to prep for the sand at Assen.

Roger DeCoster on the highs and lows of managing Team USA at RedBud.
Easily one of the friendliest, funniest, and most well-spoken veterans of the pits, Ian Harrison has been through a lot in his 25-plus years working with factory racing teams. Teamed up as mechanic for Greg Albertyn, the duo went through South Africa and Europe before landing in the U.S., just as Roger DeCoster was taking the reins of Team Suzuki. Through tireless efforts, Ian and Roger (and Albee) got Suzuki back into the championship business, and wins kept coming through Pastrana, Carmichael, Reed, and Dungey. Then, just like that, it stopped. DeCoster had an offer to go to KTM, but The Man would only do it if Harrison went with him. For 2019, DeCoster has been promoted to KTM/Husqvarna U.S. motorsports director, and Harrison will take over as the team manager of Red Bull KTM. Harrison's journey from humble racer in South Africa to running a top team here is fascinating—especially when explained through Harrison's colorful personality. This week's guest is Roger DeCoster. Besides winning five 500cc world titles of his own, he's spent a lifetime working as a team manager with some of the best in the business. We checked in with him to find out a bit about his past, present, and future.
Ross Maeda is what some would label as an OG of suspension tuning for the motocross world. A racer turned test rider, then technician and all-around development and suspension guy; he now runs his own shop, Enzo Racing. Over his career, Ross has worked with racers such as Bob Hannah and Roger Decoster, all the way to Ricky Carmichael and Ryan Villopoto. We caught up with Ross for a broad background on testing and some of the earlier days of moto suspension.
We gave Red Bull KTM’s Roger DeCoster a call to get the latest on Broc Tickle’s provisional suspension and obvious questions about the team’s response and immediate plans while this arduous process plays out. We’ll also get his thoughts on the season, Triple Crown and anything else “The Man” wants to get off his hairy chest.
There are few guests we look forward to having on more than Red Bull KTM's Roger DeCoster. Our listeners thoroughly enjoy his honest and forthright interviews and we have a lot to cover tonight with the recent supercross rule/format changes and a recap of KTM's year. Racer X's David Pingree will give us his thoughts on the new SX changes for 2018 and all the other headlines in the sport and around the world. Coastal Racing/Husqvarna's Ryan Sipes recently won his first-career GNCC overall victory and celebrated by showing up and representing at the Red Bull Straight Rhythm last weekend. He may not have raced on a supercross track in quite some time, but the Kentucky Kid didn't show any signs of rust on the unique and challenging track. We'll get his thoughts on his busy and exciting year tonight. Ronnie Mac is the most polarizing and controversial athlete in sports since OJ Simpson, and we're pretty sure that dude killed some people. His unapologetic rise to fame has left a bitter trail of tears and empty Pabst Blue Ribbon cans along the way. We can't wait to hear his take on the recent Red Bull Straight Rhythm race where he defiantly called out some of the best riders our sport has ever seen.
