REDBUUUUUD!
Presented by Maxxis By all accounts, the Red Bud Pro MX National was amazing, and especially so because of the weather that rolled through Buchanan, Michigan, on Friday and flooded the track. The Red Bud Track n' Trail team did an absolutely amazing job of whipping the quagmire into a highly raceable track that yielded some excellent racing in both classes. What were the big takeaways for you from round five? For us, it was the performance turned in by Hunter Lawrence, the emotional flare-ups from both Lawrences after moto one (we love it!), Jorge Prado letting a potential overall win slip away, Cole Davies establishing himself as a championship contender, and more...
Send us Fan MailLewis Phillips and Michael Lindsay reflect on round five of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship on the 'DeCal Works Post-Race Show' on Vital MX presented by Fox Racing, Yoshimura R&D, Yamaha Motor USA and Motorex.

Today's poem is Spring in War-Time by Sara Teasdale. The Slowdown is your daily poetry ritual. In this episode, Maggie writes… “I'm sure you've also seen the news stories, or at least social media takes, theorizing on the potential for a military draft. I have a son, and surely many of you listening have sons, too. “Operation Epic Fury” is what I feel, as a mother, when I think about men like Trump and Hegseth possibly, someday, sending my son and yours needlessly into harm's way. Meanwhile, it's spring. The earth feels set on creating more life. It's sunny in central Ohio, and the Bradford Pears and the Redbud trees and the Magnolias are blooming. My yard is overrun with violets and dandelions. Later today my son — my only son — will mow it.” This show is supported by gifts from listeners. Presented by Maxxis For motocross fans, Independence Day means one thing in particular: the Red Bud Pro Motocross National in Buchanan, Michigan! In the 450 class we saw the same Jett Lawrence sweep that we have seen countless times before, but this one was extra special as the Honda HRC Progressive rider came from 18th to win moto two. While some would argue that the Australian is making racing boring, we disagree! Jettson's ability to find unique lines, combine bumps to make jumps, and work past his competitors is something truly special that we are all fortunate to witness. Bookending Honda's great weekend at Red Bud was a 1-1 moto sweep in the 250 class by Japanese rider Jo Shimoda, who turned in a pair of stellar performances. But what of Haiden Deegan? The series points leader had multiple mishaps, crashes, and mechanical woes and suffered his worst overall finish of the year. More on that, and more, on this installment of the Kickstart Podcast, presented by Maxxis!

There's been a lot of talk in the past few months about a range of important issues: the rule of law, checks and balances, free speech on campuses, whether people's jobs will continue to exist. You know what I haven't heard people talk about much? Oranges. I've heard precious little consideration of what you might whisper to an orange before you peel it.Admittedly, I wasn't thinking about that either when the basis of this episode got started. Last spring, I heard about a performance at the I Fell building in downtown Bloomington. It was called How to Preserve an Orange, and it was this ritual, participatory performance. I'd heard great things and decided to invite the artist, clay scofield, to do it again, this time at Redbud Books in Bloomington. Redbud is a community space as well as a bookstore. How to Preserve an Orange was strange and fun and it made me think about experimentation, being in tune with our senses, and play. clay and I sat down in the studio a couple weeks later to talk about the experience, about what it means to train our attention on something, why limiting possibility is important for people who want to amass power, how play can open up opportunities for transformation, and how, as a result, real, deep play can also be risky. Dangerous. Which is a little bit how I felt during How to Preserve an Orange, when clay asked us to ask our oranges to consent to being eaten.clay is a visiting assistant professor in digital art at the Eskenazi School of Art Architecture and Design in Art. They're on the board of directors of the School of Making Thinking, and they're a co-creator of the Deep Play Artist Residency. clay has MFAs in poetry AND in studio art. This episode includes excerpts from the performance of How to Preserve an Orange. If you want to try it at home, the full recording of the performance is also be available in the Inner States podcast feed. Let us know if you do!
