There's been a lot of talk in the past few months about a range of important issues: the rule of law, checks and balances, free speech on campuses, whether people's jobs will continue to exist. You know what I haven't heard people talk about much? Oranges. I've heard precious little consideration of what you might whisper to an orange before you peel it.Admittedly, I wasn't thinking about that either when the basis of this episode got started. Last spring, I heard about a performance at the I Fell building in downtown Bloomington. It was called How to Preserve an Orange, and it was this ritual, participatory performance. I'd heard great things and decided to invite the artist, clay scofield, to do it again, this time at Redbud Books in Bloomington. Redbud is a community space as well as a bookstore. How to Preserve an Orange was strange and fun and it made me think about experimentation, being in tune with our senses, and play. clay and I sat down in the studio a couple weeks later to talk about the experience, about what it means to train our attention on something, why limiting possibility is important for people who want to amass power, how play can open up opportunities for transformation, and how, as a result, real, deep play can also be risky. Dangerous. Which is a little bit how I felt during How to Preserve an Orange, when clay asked us to ask our oranges to consent to being eaten.clay is a visiting assistant professor in digital art at the Eskenazi School of Art Architecture and Design in Art. They're on the board of directors of the School of Making Thinking, and they're a co-creator of the Deep Play Artist Residency. clay has MFAs in poetry AND in studio art. This episode includes excerpts from the performance of How to Preserve an Orange. If you want to try it at home, the full recording of the performance is also be available in the Inner States podcast feed. Let us know if you do! It's not enough for a snack to be better for you to capture consumer interest, and keep them coming back. It has to taste good, too. If it combines being healthy and being tasty with being good for the environment, that's a nice bonus. Anish Sheth talks about Redbud's hat-trick snack Cheddies Crackers, its attention to quality, and its plans for the future.

Jason Weigandt jumps into the discussion on the FIM Monster Energy Motocross of Nations, breaking down how the race was won by Team France (which has now won seven times in the last 10 years), as well as the performance of Team USA, Ken Roczen and more. This podcast also contains post-race audio from the Team USA trio of RJ Hampshire, Aaron Plessinger, and Christian Craig, as well as Roczen and Team France's Romain Febvre, Maxime Renaux and Tom Vialle. If Team USA doesn't win, it usually creates heartbreak from U.S. racing fans, but spirits were different this time because expectations for the Craig/Plessinger/Hampshire trio were not as high as for last year's Cooper/Tomac/Sexton squad. But would just getting the likes of Sexton and Tomac back on the team in 2024 automatically solve the problem? Weigandt wonders aloud if the 2022 RedBud win is really a sign that Team USA is back, or if the struggles from 2012-2021 might still remain. Also, he discusses the recent love for Ken Roczen, and if Team Australia will be able to get one of these Chamberlain Trophies during the window of the Lawrence brothers. Much to discuss, and here it is. The Racer X Exhaust Podcast is hosted by Jason Weigandt and sponsored by Yoshimura, Leatt, and Steel City Men's Clinic. You can mark it on your calendar. Each summer, usually around RedBud, Ty Masterpool starts hauling butt and reminding everyone that he has serious talent. Then comes the cries from fans to put Ty on a factory motorcycle. Yet, it's 2023 and Ty, who sits sixth in 450MX points despite not even racing the 450 class at the opening round, is yet again a privateer, under the HBI Racing tent. There are many misunderstandings and rumors about the Masterpool plan. Some think Ty and his family don't want to race or succeed in supercross. Some think they don't want Ty to race at all. Some think they don't want to work with a factory team. Ty is not a rider of many words, but he is making it clear he would love a factory bike and loves supercross. To dive in deeper, Jason Weigandt rang up Ty's father, Jerry, formerly an Olympic Champion coach in Alpine racing (and Ty's mom, Tarah, is one of the pioneers, and a great champion, in snowboarding). But Jerry wants everyone to know this isn't abou t mom and dad. It's about Ty, who wants to race, and the family will support him as far as they possibly can. They would love to see him on a factory team, though! The Racer X Exhaust Podcast is hosted by Jason Weigandt and sponsored by Yoshimura, Leatt, Steel City Men's Clinic, and the WD-40 brand.
