In October 1997, Skip Clark was killed in York, PA. Police officers decided that the death was gang related, and that two gangs were out for each other after having a dispute. Tysheem Crocker was dragged into the conversation. The State argued that he and others plotted to retaliate against their rival gang, and that Skip was caught in the middle. Despite four witnesses testifying that they knew who the killer was and that it was not Tysheem, and despite the fact that his whereabouts were accounted for at the time of the crime, Tysheem was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. While their paths to UTC were very different, former Mocs' cagers Karen Mills and Skip Clark met on the basketball court and have continued that friendship on the stage as stand up comedians. Mills, an all-conference performer from Cleveland, Tenn., holds the school record for assists and is second for steals. The quick-handed point guard ranks among the best in scoring with more than 1,000 points. Clark, on the other hand, knew he wanted to get out of New York. He traveled to Chattanooga from the Bronx, passing on scholarship opportunities closer to home. He was selected to the Southern Conference All-Tournament team and holds UTC's record in the NCAA Tournament for steals. Their paths after college were different, the two have met to perform together and today to relive their time on the court and what life is like after basketball.

Tonight as we continue to bring voices, your voices, our voices to these days we live in, and gain perspective on what Covid-19 is doing to our lives, two more fascinating interviews. Brian McGolgan, a friend out of New Orleans, with an extensive background in the city's music; DJ at WWOZ, worked at Tipitina's. We talk music, especially on this JazzFest in Place weekend and he does have some stories (possibly one of the funnier ones I've ever heard about Mac (Dr. John) and his unique use of language), about R&B music. For anyone outside that city, you think you know music? Take listen and get an education, and we talk about live music forward after this is over.Skip Clark joins us tonight as well. A PdD and Professor of history and specifically, his concentration and classes he taught in the history of Europe during the Bubonic Plague years, the Black Death. He brings insight and expertise very few others can or could and we talk about that period, and it's lessons for today. As always, it's free to stream, download or listen to, just head out on the link.
