Merch and apparel is now available through an exclusive collaboration with Confetti & Cloth Boutique! Comfortable and stylish sweatshirts, hats, coffee mugs, and more! Available while supplies last. Find them on Instagram, Facebook, and their website! This week, Jill brings back one of the most downloaded episodes in the history of the show, episode 15 titled "Bad Mutha" from 2020, long before she really had any idea what this podcast would become. She shares how she didn't reread or rework it and how that is honestly part of the point. She was overwhelmed, anxious, and convinced that she was screwing everything up as a mom, but now, five years later, after a whole lot of therapy, journaling, and soul-searching, she has realized that the guilt that she felt then is the same guilt so many of us are still carrying now. In this replay episode, you will hear Jill wrestle with the old stories that she used to tell herself such as the story that she was a bad mom, that every mistake was permanent, that other mothers were doing it "right" while she was just keeping her head above water. You'll also hear the moments that still tug at her heart such as the night that she chose a spotless kitchen over watching a Star Wars movie with her daughter, memories that she has replayed endlessly as if punishing herself could rewrite them. However, this episode is about naming what's actually underneath mom guilt: perfectionism, comparison, and the old wounds which we drag into adulthood without even realizing it. It's about understanding why we cling to the belief that we're failing, even when the evidence says otherwise, and it is, of course, about the uncomfortable truth that guilt doesn't make us better mothers; it only teaches our kids to carry the same shame that we're trying to outrun. Jill encourages listeners to remember that every parent has their private struggles, no matter how shiny their family looks from the outside. Every child grows through their own challenges, and every mother, whether she believes it or not, is doing the absolute best she can with the tools that she has, so if mom guilt has been background noise for you or if you're ready to let go of the impossible standards that have followed you for years, this revisited episode will meet you exactly where you are! Also, don't forget - Jill will be hosting an upcoming retreat - the More of Me retreat - offering a deep dive into self-discovery. Head to jillherman.com for more details! Show Notes: [1:31] - This episode is a replay of episode 15 of the podcast, titled "Bad Mutha." [5:04] - This episode is all about mom guilt. [7:11] - Jill admits that she long believed that guilt made her a bad mother. [10:54] - Jill realized that her "bad mom" narrative was not offering her truth. [13:32] - Jill shares a story of how a missed movie with her daughter still reminds her of how her anxiety misguides choices. [15:58] - Unspoken stress led Jill's daughter to feel disappointed and hurt. [17:20] - Jill recognizes that her haunting memories are exaggerated guilt that she can't rewrite. [20:07] - Perfection is impossible, and self punishing stories aren't reality. [22:11] - Hear how Jill realized that unresolved personal issues amplified comparison and perfectionism, intensifying guilt unnecessarily. [24:29] - Jill rewrote her story, collecting evidence of love to take on guilt and perfectionism. [26:59] - Comparing ourselves to other parents steals our peace because everyone struggles behind closed doors. [28:46] - Jill discusses how perfectionism exploits unresolved wounds, making parents feel inadequate despite their efforts. [30:37] - Healing needs to involve inward reflection, honest conversations, apologies, and self-forgiveness to move forward. [33:09] - Jill argues that real mothering comes from self-healing, not guilt, so that children experience joy and wholeness. [35:13] - Hear how observing a highly present mother reignited Jill's anxieties, despite her own progress in parenting. [37:10] - Jill chose self forgiveness after realizing that her parenting evidence showed love rather than failure. [39:07] - Jill reminds parents that their guilt reflects perfectionism, not the reality of their kids' futures. [42:11] - Jill found freedom by accepting her children's independence and releasing expectations driven by perfectionism. [45:52] - Kids' choices reflect their own paths, not parental failure or shame. [49:34] - Jill encourages moms listening to journal guilt and affirm their worth on a daily basis. [53:04] - Jill also encourages sharing these reflections with friends! Healthcare is a team effort, but we don't always see the full team. Behind every physician visit, every hospital discharge, and every community clinic, there's a vast, often invisible network of professionals keeping the system running. In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Sunita Mutha, Director of the Healthforce Center and Professor of Medicine at UCSF, to talk about these hidden threads holding our healthcare system together. She shines a light on the vital roles played by medical assistants, patient navigators, community health workers, and clinic leaders—roles that are essential, yet too often overlooked. Dr. Mutha walks us through the Healthforce Center's mission to strengthen this workforce, from building lasting leadership programs that ripple across organizations, to fostering statewide collaborations, to producing data-driven insights that inform policy at every level. We also dive deep into the realities of burnout—why it's not just about overwork, but about the erosion of meaning in the work itself. Dr. Mutha reframes burnout as a structural failure, not a personal shortcoming, and shares practical ways to design systems that support the people who make care possible. This is an honest, inspiring look at the human infrastructure of healthcare—what it takes to sustain it, and why investing in people is the key to a more equitable and resilient system. On the 65th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Shout It Out Loudcast Hall of Famer, Jeff Trott review the 1993 classic Hip-Hop album by Snoop Doggy Dogg, "Doggystyle." This is ARC's first Hip-Hop album review. The debut album from Snoop Doggy Dogg was highly anticipated after Snoop's appearance on Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" just one year earlier. The album was produced famously by Dr. Dre and was a breakthrough for G Funk style of Hip-Hop. The album features many contributions, including, Dr. Dre, Tha Dogg Pound, The D.O.C., Warren G, Nate Dogg, Daz, Korrupt, Lady Of Rage and more. The album went immediately to #1 US Billboard album charts and went on to become 4x Platinum and eventually selling 11 million albums worldwide. The album is known for the legendary rap skills of Snoop and the beats from Dre, which were revolutionary. The album catapulted Snoop Doggy Dogg into a super stardom celebrity status. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Zeus' pick. On this episode of #LatinosOutLoud, Rachel La Loca invites Filmmaker, Actor, Producer and friend Sofia Yepes over to hang in the backyard to kick it and talk about Sofia's latest film "The Low End Theory". They chit chat about her projects, as well as motherhood, and the two brave gals bond on a very deep and emotional topic they speak very truthful about. “The Low End Theory” is an official selection of the New York Latino Film Festival, NVISION Latino Film Festival, and GuadaLAjara Film Festival 2024. It won ‘Best Ensemble Cast' at the NVISION Latino Film Festival. Check out the trailer for The Low End Theory HERE The neo noir crime thriller follows a traumatized vet turned ‘Raquel Pacheco' (Sofia Yepes) money launderer who steals from her drug-dealer boss ‘Ulysses' (Eddie Martinez) to pay off debts owed by the beautiful but equally trouble woman ‘Giselle' (Ser Anzoategui) with whom she is having an obsessive affair. The film brings to life representation for Queer people, Latinx artists, and single mothers to the screen. The film also stars: Rene Rosado (ABC's “The Conners”), Scotty Tovar (“Empire”), J.R. Villarreal (“Landman”) and Sidney Flanigan (award winning Focus Features “Never Rarely Sometimes Always”). When not creating multi-dimensional projects in Hollywood, Sofia is equally committed to raising up the voices of single mothers and breaking societal norms. What started out as a podcast called ‘As a Mutha' which grew from anger at the unfair expectations of single mothers, has expanded into a community called ‘Sana Sana Single Mama' which now focuses on resources for healing for single mothers coming Summer 2025. Resources will include access to family lawyers, assistance with funds, therapy, retreats, and more. Sofia is also a certified Cacao Ceremony Specialist, engaging ancient Indigenous spiritual and healing practices. Sofia currently resides in Los Angeles and is a single mother to her seven-year-old son, Phoenix. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Enroll in Thrive Online to grow your heart centered online business at https://www.quietmindastrology.com/thriveBook A 1-1 Reading at https://www.quietmindastrology.com/readingEverything in Vedic Astrology starts with one thing: your birth information—the time, date, and place of your birth. That's how your natal chart is cast. It tells you about the karmas playing out throughout your life. But that's not the end of the story.Every year on your birthday, the sky realigns in a special way, giving you a new chart for that year, called the Varshphal chart (also known as the solar return or annual chart). This episode is a deep dive into the five major things you want to look at in your annual chart to understand the themes and energies you're working with for your personal new year. Whether you're getting a reading from me or anyone else, these five insights will help you understand the year ahead much more clearly. Here's what I cover in this episode:The Annual Chart (Varshphal)A snapshot of the sky at the exact date and time of your birth—but this year. The Ascendant sets the tone. The Muntha PointMy favorite part of the annual chart. It moves one sign every year from your birth, and acts like an ascendant for the year. If it's in Cancer? Focus on family, compassion, and emotional depth. If it's in Aries? New beginnings and fire energy. Where it lands by sign, house, and nakshatra sets your theme for the year.Planetary ReturnsMost people know about the Saturn return (hello, 30s), but did you know every planet has returns? Jupiter returns every 12 years, Rahu/Ketu every 18, Saturn every ~30. These are moments where the lessons of that planet crystallize—where you review what you've learned and see what's next.TransitsTransits shape what's happening for everyone, but your rising sign and chart will tell you how it plays out for you. Virgo risings right now? You've got five planets transiting your 7th house—major karma coming through in your relationships this year. Sofia Yepes is a talented actor, producer, and podcaster known for her compelling performances on stage and screen. Sofia made her acting debut in the award-winning Columbia University thesis film, "St. Paul," portraying a young pregnant teenager. Her performance garnered critical acclaim and set the stage for future endeavors. Currently, Sofia released "The Low End Theory," a film she co-wrote, produced alongside Atomic Features, where she also stars. With credits that include appearances on the acclaimed Showtime series, "Ray Donovan," and a memorable performance in the theater production, "Danny and The Deep Blue Sea," as well as the independent film "Ganymede" (2024), Sofia continues to captivate audiences with her authenticity and talent. When not creating multi-dimensional projects in Hollywood, Sofia is equally committed to raising up the voices of single mothers and breaking societal norms. What started out as a podcast called 'As a Mutha' which grew from anger at the unfair expectations of single mothers, has expanded into a community called 'Sana Sana Single Mama' which now focuses on resources for healing for single mothers coming Summer 2025. The Low End Theory: A traumatized vet turned money launderer steals from her drug-dealer boss to pay off debts owed by the beautiful but equally troubled woman with whom she is having an obsessive affair.
