Hello B-oo's Crew! This week we travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fl, to visit the oldest standing structure in the city. The Stranahan House was the home of local pioneers Frank and Ivy Stranahan. Frank a true pilar of the community, aiding in making Fort Lauderdale what it is today, and Ivy, a true trailblazer for woman everywhere. The Stranahans would build the home in 1901 and it would become the epicenter for the devolopment of the city. A trading post, a school aimed at helping educate young Seminole natives, city hall and much more. This story is truly amazing and has quickly become one our favorites. While a lot of paranormal claims are born of blood and murder, this one is different. So get ready B-oo's Crew, and lets step back in time, before Fort Lauderdale was a vacation destination, and lets discuss some incredible pioneers of old south Florida! In the first show back from their holiday break, the guys start out with...something other than bourbon. An American Single Malt actually - a barrel pick of Stranahan's Barrel Strength that Dan participated in. Will Ryan finally appreciate a single malt? The guys also talk about "game changing shots", "earth-shattering liquor news", and how many ways the Tito's guy can move his boat.
On todays episode we have a glass of Stranahans Blue Peak American Single Malt. If you are looking for a bold, complex American single malt, this is the one for you. Like the Blue peaks while ski'ing, it's not for the beginner, but if you can roll with the punches, it rewards you greatly. All that and more on todays episode of Whiskey Chasers! Be sure to Like us on Facebook and follow us on instagram, as well as rate and review the show wherever you are listening, it really helps us out. Thank you for listening and enjoy the show after todays sponsor. Our Website is www.whiskeychaserspod.com, check us out! Also, Be sure to show some love for the company that brought you todays bottle! https://www.stranahans.com/whiskey/blue-peak/ imagine showing up to put a barn that is on fire out and by the end of that event, you become good friends with the owner of that barn and start a distillery with them. That is exactly how this company got their start Jess Graber and George Stranahan went into business together, in 2004, over the shared love of fine whiskey Together they developed a recipe for a distinctively smooth and flavorful American single malt whiskey The mash bill is simple 100% malted barley and then cut with rocky mountain water This distillery is very interesting Their bottles are hand-bottled by a rotating crew of volunteers and, at least, used to contain a handwritten date of when the whiskey was distilled. It also contained a comment by the person who was bottling it There are now 14 team members on staff there They have 6 bottling that they offer and they also do a single barrel program What intrigues me the most about this distillery is that, even though American single malt is still struggling to be a thing, they have a lot in their lineup Stranahan's original Claiming to be the #1 American single malt whiskey So small batch that they cannot guarantee that any two batches are the same Blue Peak Uses the Solera process to age this bottle The blending and marriage of old barrels with young barrels it is a way of getting younger product out on the market quicker without it tasting young Mountain Angel (10 year) Colorado is higher altitude and colder, meaning more evaporation of alcohol More goes to the angel's share it is comparable to a Scotch that is twice it's age Snowflake What was once created as a special thank you for the volunteers has now turned into a once a year release that can only be purchased at the gift shop Past bottling have been finished in multiple barrels from multiple spirits, including mezcal Diamond Peak Aged for 4 years in American oak and then aged for 3 more years in used Bushmills barrels Sherry Cask Take their 4 year old whiskey and let it sit in 500-liter oloroso sherry barrels for an undisclosed amount of time --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/whiskey-exchange/support
I recently had the opportunity to attend the one day per year Snowflake Festival at Red Rocks near Denver and to tour the Stranahan's Distillery. During the visit, I kicked up a conversation with head distiller Owen Martin about his education in Scotland and how that translated into his current occupation, distilling American single malt. We decided to take the conversation online so you could eavesdrop. We also talked about this year's two Snowflake releases.
Cheers and happy new year to all. Great friends from college, Andrea and Lou, join us for a tasting of Stranahan's sherry cask single malt whiskey and Angels Envy, finished in port wine barrels. See which one we clink, and which one we sink. In my launch episode, we travel through time. How's that for a start!?! First, I talk to Rob Dietrich in June 2018. He was then Master Distiller at Stranahan's during the distillery's annual Cask Thief event. Then, we travel a year into the future to chat about his new role as Master Distiller for Blackened, Metallica's signature whiskey brand, at Bar Convent Brooklyn. Enjoy! Please subscribe, rate and review the show. Cheers!

Here it is, our Intro Episode 000(?) of Crafted Conversations. Hooray! We’re delivering you our weekly adventures and conversations as we peruse our local craft scene and divulge in some imported items and experiences from around the world. As we trade stories and dig up the origins and tidbits of curious information about what we’re enjoying we will share with you the amazing passions of ours and those who we converse with. Our first podcast of course is just a random rambling of thoughts and a general directive as to how the show will go. Initially we want you to get a feel for who we are and how we think, or don’t in some cases. We’ll keep a bit of a structure/guideline to our podcasts but we’ll freeform most of our conversations when it really comes down to it. In our first podcast, we discuss what the game plan is, we munch on a few tidbits, some beer and whiskey and we find out that Hunter S. Thompson and George Stranahan, from Stranahan’s Whiskey, were neighbors. We drink some Upslope and River North Beer, especially the delicious 2014 Barrel Reserve, and ramble on about a few of our favorite places to visit around town. A couple of beer and whiskey driven anecdotes later and you’ve got a fun little Intro Podcast. Enjoy the show and expect the other one shortly. In the final episode of 2010, we'll take a look back at some of the year's more memorable moments. In the news, Tuthilltown Spirits founder Ralph Erenzo is hospitalized in critical condition after a car accident, Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey has been sold, new whiskies from BenRiach and Glengoyne, and the real person in charge at Bruichladdich is retiring.
The Whisky Guild held its annual "Whisky on the Hudson" tasting and dinner cruise in New York City the other night, with more than 900 people on hand to taste dozens of whiskies. I'll have some of the highlights on this week's episode, including a visit to The Balvenie's Warehouse 24 room and chats with some of the U.S. microdistillers on hand. In the news, a new peated Glenmorangie, 10 single casks from BenRiach, a new Macallan 1824 Collection expression, and an update on the "Water of Life" Drive for Charity: Water.
A double feature this time around: William Wemyss shares his family's Scottish heritage with a line of single cask and blended malts named to describe what the whiskies inside taste like. We'll also start a two-part series looking at the growth of microdistillers in the U.S., featuring Jess Graber of Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey, Jay Harman of The Notch, and Brian Ellison of Death's Door Spirits. In the news, Bruichladdich unleashes the Octomore peat monster and the X4 quadruple-distilled spirit on the world.
