In December 2019, Lisa and Simon Thomas left their motorcycles and gear in the United States, planning to return after a short trip home to the UK. More than six years later, those bikes are still there — and their lives have gone in a very different direction. This episode lives in the space between what was planned and what actually happened. We talk about building a life around long-term travel, what happens when health intervenes, and the emotional cost of stopping after years on the move. Lisa and Simon share what it's like to lose — and rebuild — identity, confidence, and purpose when the thing that defines you suddenly disappears. And through it all, we explore why motorcycles still matter.

Hello Boys and Girls,Joining me today on the Podcast, we're taking a detour off the main highway and into the wonderfully odd, clever, and cinematic world of filmmaker John Putch. You know him from his long directing career, his indie gems like the Route 30 trilogy, and his decades of work in film and television — but today we're zeroing in on something a little different: his hilarious, low‑budget‑on-purpose, high‑charm motorcycle videos on YouTube. These shorts blend road‑trip Americana, deadpan humor, and the kind of creative freedom only a rider with a camera and a mischievous streak can pull off. We'll talk about the bikes, the destinations, the characters, the comedy, and the craft behind these deceptively simple moto films. So grab your helmet, settle in, and let's roll into the world of PutchFilms. Cody Weber and a small group of experienced motorcycle riders set out on a planned day ride near Green River, Utah, traveling through canyon country, dry riverbeds, and remote desert terrain. The ride appeared well prepared: riders who knew each other, a route that seemed manageable, and time taken beforehand to organize motorcycles, gear, supplies, and navigation. What unfolded next isn't unusual in the world of adventure motorcycling. Terrain gets misread, bikes go down, and riders get injured—especially in remote environments like Utah's canyonlands. What makes this story worth paying attention to is not the crash itself, but what happened afterward. In the minutes and hours following the accident, a series of decisions were made under pressure, shaped by limited information, physical injury, environmental conditions, and the realities of being far from help. Those decisions made sense at the time—but they also raise important questions about risk assessment, group dynamics, emergency response, and decision-making in remote motorcycle travel. This story offers practical lessons for riders who travel off-road and in isolated areas: what to consider after a crash, how judgment can shift under stress, and what might be done differently when plans unravel. It's a reminder that preparation doesn't end when the ride begins—and that the most critical moments often come after everything goes wrong.

In Kevin Staples' mind, there was always a point where the trip would end. He didn't expect to get through. The goal wasn't success — it was simply to go far enough to say he'd tried. To ride up to the wall, touch it, and be told to turn back. So he kept doing exactly that. Showing up. Asking the question. Taking one more step, fully expecting it to be the last. That isn't how it played out. By the time Kevin rode his motorcycle home, the road — and the world around him — looked very different than it had when he left.

This week, we're taking a brief pause before the next regular episode drops after Christmas. For many riders, this time of year isn't about motion or miles—it's about reflection. About looking back at where we've been, the choices we made along the way, and what still lies ahead. The road doesn't always demand constant movement. Sometimes, the most important moments happen when things go quiet—when we take stock, reconnect, and remember why we ride in the first place. Wherever you are, and however you're spending these days, we appreciate you taking the journey with us. Our regular episode comes out tomorrow. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

The motorcycle is represents defiance, rebellion, freedom and community. It has become a deep part of American society preserving the values that were rooted in the past age of innovation. Beginning as a steam powered bike called a Roper Steam Velocipede in 1867, the motorcycle quickly evolved to a gas powered racing machine by the turn of century. With brands like Indian (1901) and Harley Davidson (1903) still existence today, the motorcycle history is rich in innovation, manufacturing start-ups and cultural transformation. It remains a vibrant culture the anchors us to an America the modern era wants to erase. #BardsFM_TheAmericanBrand #FreedomOnTwoWheels #RebelCulture Bards Nation Health Store: www.bardsnationhealth.com EnviroKlenz Air Purification, promo code BARDS to save 10%: www.enviroklenz.com EMPShield protect your vehicles and home. How has motorcycle travel changed over the past ten years — not just the gear and tech, but how does constant exposure to other riders' trips and highlight reels reshape our motivation? Comparison is everywhere now, whether we want it or not, and it has a way of steering our travel choices without us noticing. The panel reflects on what first sparked their desire to travel, how that spark has evolved, and how to stay grounded in their own reasons for riding instead of chasing outside influence.Listener Question from Briah Grohs: For your 10th anniversary show of RAW, ask each member of the panel what stands out in their mind that they learned from being on the show.

Slow-speed skills matter — especially on heavy adventure motorcycles. But if that's where your training stops, there are real situations where it starts working against you. Because sometimes control doesn't come from crawling — it comes from the right momentum at the right time. Clinton Smout from SMART Performance Centre joins us to talk about what happens when the trail gets rough and the bike needs to do what it's designed to do: move. We explore how stability changes with motion, how traction and momentum work together in real terrain, and why timing — with throttle, clutch, and body position — is what separates bouncing through from riding cleanly through.

The Truth About Motorcycle Ministries: Protocols, Conduct & Religious MC DifferencesToday on Black Dragon Biker TV, we're taking a clear, honest look at a topic that continues to generate debate across the biker set: Motorcycle Ministries (MMs) — what they are, what they are not, and why confusion around their conduct is creating tension on the road.Motorcycle Ministries exist for a specific purpose: outreach, service, and spiritual support within the biker community. With that calling comes higher expectations, not exemptions.Yet many in the MC world are asking legitimate questions:Why do some MMs appear to bypass traditional protocol? Why do they sometimes receive “passes” that other clubs do not?And why does the on-the-road behavior of some ministries look no different from outlaw or dominant clubs? These questions aren't attacks — they're calls for clarity and accountability.⚖️ What We're Breaking DownThe true purpose and mission of Motorcycle MinistriesThe protocols and expectations placed on MMs by the broader biker communityWhy behavior on the set matters more than the name on the backHow perception is shaped when ministries party, patch issues, or ignore standardsWhy religious identity should never be used to avoid scrutiny✝️ Motorcycle Ministries vs. Religious MCsThere is a clear and important difference between:Motorcycle Ministries (MMs), andChristian or religious-based Motorcycle ClubsWe'll explain:How their structures differWhy expectations differAnd how misunderstanding these roles damages both

Largest Biker Gang Bust in Georgia HistoryToday on Black Dragon Biker TV, we are breaking down what is now being called the largest motorcycle gang conviction in Georgia state history — and the implications are far bigger than just one case.On a December morning at 11:31 a.m., Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced the conviction of 15 members of the Southeast Georgia Chapter of the Outcast Motorcycle Club in Bryan County. The case stems from an attempted armed robbery and shootout that took place on June 17, 2022, at Flacos House Bar & Grill and the Red Roof Inn on Highway 17 in Richmond Hill.According to prosecutors:Innocent bystanders were caught in the crossfireSix members of a rival gang were targetedFirearms were usedAnd the state pursued the case aggressively from top to bottomJust 17 years after donning the 1%er diamond in Georgia, the Outcast MC now finds itself placed squarely in the national spotlight of biker gang prosecutions, alongside the so-called “Top 5” white outlaw motorcycle clubs.⚖️ This Is Bigger Than One CaseThere's a reason Black motorcycle clubs historically avoided the 1%er diamond when it first appeared in 1958 — and it had nothing to do with toughness, heart, or organization. The OGs understood something critical:Juries judge Black skin differently. Then. And now. They knew the diamond didn't just represent outlaw status —it represented enhanced scrutiny, enhanced charges, and enhanced punishment. That diamond painted a target squarely on the chest. So What Is “Patch Policing” Really Called in Court? Here's the truth:In the courtroom, patch policing isn't called “protocol.”It isn't called “club business.” It's called ARMED ROBBERY. And the sentence is 20 years.Today, we'll break down:How club conduct gets reframed by prosecutorsWhy juries don't hear “MC culture” — they hear “organized crime”How enhanced charges are built around patches, colors, and associationAnd why this case should serve as a warning to every MC wearing a diamond

Every December in Olympia, Washington, the sound of Christmas isn't just bells ringing—it's engines revving. For one incredible day, thousands of bikers fill the streets, each with toys strapped to their motorcycles—dolls, skateboards, games, stuffed animals—all destined for children who might otherwise go without. It's the annual Olympia Toy Run, and for 48 years, this event has brought together riders from all over the region for one shared purpose: bringing joy to kids at Christmas. Those toys, thousands of them, end up at The Salvation Army, where they become part of the Toy and Joy program—helping families across Thurston County celebrate Christmas with dignity and love. Today, we'll talk with Captain Amelia Mott from The Salvation Army in Olympia about how the Toy Run helps meet real needs in the community—and later, we'll catch up with Santa Joe, the biker who started and has led this joyful ride year after year. Because generosity doesn't always come wrapped with ribbons and bows. Sometimes, it comes roaring down the street on two wheels. EPISODE SHOWNOTES: Read more. BE AFFIRMED. Step off the interstate and into a different kind of ride. We open with gratitude for a listener who reminded us that joy is a worthy destination, then point our front wheels toward the slower roads that reshape how we see, breathe, and connect. The smells change, the pace softens, and the world stops rushing past. That's where the ride becomes more than miles.Guided by William Least Heat-Moon's Blue Highways, we explore a simple rule that changes everything: skip the main highways and follow the quiet lines on the map. It's not about nostalgia; it's about attention. We talk through why motion calms the mind, how rhythmic travel acts like moving meditation, and why the most meaningful moments happen when the kickstand goes down and the helmet comes off. The real treasure isn't the scenery alone, but the people you meet when you choose to linger—waitresses with town histories, old-timers at gas pumps, and strangers with road tips you'll never find on an app. You'll hear a practical challenge to turn philosophy into practice: plan a highway‑free route, build in stops, and start one real conversation. Trade speed for presence and efficiency for curiosity. Whether you ride Colorado dirt or county lanes in Italy, this approach turns any afternoon into a story worth keeping. Along the way, we tackle the myth that the world is mostly unfriendly, and we make the case that kindness is common—you just have to leave room for it.If this resonates, share it with a rider who needs a calmer road, subscribe for more mindful moto stories, and tell us your name, where you're from, and what you ride. Your blue highway is out there—ready to find it with us? Riding a motorcycle through Laos pushes both nerve and skill—potholes big enough to swallow a car, sudden water crossings, deep mud, and even the possibility of an elephant stepping onto the trail. A team from Rally for Rangers, led by Steve Zuschin, recently tackled these extreme conditions as they crossed Laos to deliver new motorcycles to frontline Rangers. The ride blended rugged, technical adventure motorcycling with a mission that supports the protection of threatened wilderness. Steve talks about why these demanding routes keep pulling him back and what it takes to ride some of the toughest terrain in Southeast Asia.
New Dumb Laws Florida Wrote for Bikers 2026Today on Black Dragon Biker TV, we're exposing some of the wildest, most heavy-handed, and frankly ridiculous new laws Florida has rolled out for bikers heading into 2026.With the passing of Florida House Bill 253, the Sunshine State has suddenly become one of the strictest places in America for motorcycle riders — and the consequences are no joke. What used to be a simple fix-it ticket is now a criminal offense.Yes, you read that right.Improper display or partial obstruction of a license plate can now get you arrested. And some violations? They're now FELONIES.From new plate-visibility rules, to enhanced traffic-stop authority, to penalties that seem tailor-made to target MCs and biker culture — Florida is drawing a line in the sand. Special Guest: Big Bone 1%erFrom the mighty Outcast MC Nation,Chairman of the WFLCOC (West Florida Confederation of Clubs),and Florida President of the Council of Clubs,Big Bone 1%er joins the show to break the whole thing down:️ What HB 253 REALLY says️ How it will be enforced️ What riders must do to stay free in 2026️ How MCs are responding behind the scenes️ Why Florida is cracking down so aggressivelyNo rumors. No myths.Just real game from someone who lives in the middle of the fight. We'll Also Discuss:• Why Florida keeps targeting bikers• How these laws may spread nationwide• What you and your club MUST do to avoid becoming a casualty• Why visibility laws are being weaponized against motorcycle clubsIf you ride in Florida — or plan to — you cannot afford to miss this. A shorter episode this week but that makes it the perfect length to listen to on your way to Holiday Shopping. This week we go uplifting as we dig into the life of Beatrice 'Tillie' Shilling. The child of a master butcher and one of thre girls born and raised in the South of England, she spent her pocket money on tools and penknives, deconstructed devices to see how they fit together and worked and played with Meccano sets, early construction toys allowing children to build working models of cars and cranes. She would even win a competition for building from these kits. By the age of 14, she bought her first motorcycle originally to beat her sisters in bike races. But she tuned, tinkered and replaced every single part remaking the machine and soon was speeding around on it everywhere. She began to study practical electronics and work in the field as young as 15, even going on to become an Engineer (in the 1930's when women just didn't do such things). We cover the life of this amazing woman and how she saved both the Spitfire and the Hurricane, earned an OBE and hit the ton at Brooklands as a motorcycle racer in this uplifting, girl powerm yes it's in Surrey but there's no fringe on top episode of the Family Plot Podcast!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.

This week on O Lala in RVA, we're sitting down with someone who truly helped shape how Richmond sees itself — Juan Conde. Journalist. Broadcaster. Community voice. Motorcycle enthusiast. And yes… that voice you've trusted for decades. From his early days in radio to 22 years behind the anchor desk, Juan has covered some of the most defining moments of our time — and he's got the stories (and perspective) to prove it. We talk journalism, trust, the evolution of local news, and what it really takes to stay credible in an age of constant noise. Plus, Juan spills just enough about a very mysterious radio comeback
Kevin and Sylvia launched iRide Arusha in July 2024, offering motorcycle tours and rentals in Tanzania. Within 18 months they scaled across four East African cities through a franchise model called iRide Africa, with partners operating in Rwanda, Nairobi, and Mombasa. The franchise structure allows riders to cross borders and book multi-country tours. The episode covers operational realities: importing equipment across borders, navigating tourism regulations, managing multi-country payment processing, and running rentals and guided tours as two distinct businesses with different customer profiles and sales cycles. Kevin and Sylvia share how they find customers through motorcycle clubs, price for premium buyers, and use immediate response times as a competitive advantage.TOP 10 TAKEAWAYS1. Test adjacent niches when your market is saturatedRather than launch another safari company in an oversaturated market, Kevin and Sylvia identified motorcycle touring as an underserved adventure niche in East Africa. Consider what adjacent experiences your destination supports that competitors aren't offering.2. Franchise models can scale faster than going soloWithin 18 months, iRide expanded across four East African cities through franchise partnerships. Partners share mechanics, bikes, marketing resources, and customer referrals. This creates a network effect where riders can start in one country and end in another, adding value no single operator could deliver alone.3. Target communities, not just individualsKevin reaches out directly to motorcycle clubs in major US cities. One Chicago BMW Riders club is bringing eight people in February. Booking one club creates the revenue of eight individual customers with a fraction of the acquisition cost. Find the clubs, associations, or communities that match your experience type.4. Customer service is a competitive advantage in developing marketsTheir immediate response times and willingness to hop on Zoom calls builds trust fast, especially for customers who've never been to Africa.5. Platform diversification requires testing, not guessingiRide is on Get Your Guide, Viator, Klook, WeTravel, and fielding Facebook messages, but hasn't found the magic channel yet. Test widely, track what converts, double down there.6. Price for the experience you're actually delivering, not your self-doubtKevin admits they severely underpriced at launch. Beginner business owners often can't see their own value clearly. If you're offering wow moments and authentic connections, charge accordingly.7. Guided vs. rental requires different marketing and operationsRental customers (experienced, self-sufficient, quick decision makers) need less hand-holding than guided tour customers (more questions, longer planning cycles, higher price points). These are functionally two different businesses with different messaging, pricing, and customer profiles.8. Gross revenue and net income are very differentVehicle maintenance, cross-border parts sourcing, and insurance eat into margins constantly. Build cash reserves and expect hidden costs, especially in asset-heavy businesses.9. Local language fluency unlocks competitive advantagesSylvia's Swahili fluency helped navigate Interpol holds on imported bikes, handle tourism police complaints from competitors, and build long-term supplier relationships. Language access isn't just customer-facing—it's operational power.10. Differentiation isn't just what you do, it's how guests connectGuests consistently cite the vastness of the landscape and local interactions (like lunch with Sylvia's 88-year-old farming grandmother) as their standout memories. Design for connection points your format uniquely enables.

Fogging is something most motorcycle riders just put up with — cracking the visor, wiping it, trying to manage it on the fly. But it's more than an annoyance; it's a visibility problem, and visibility is safety. What many motorcycle riders don't realize is that there are real solutions, not myths or quick roadside fixes, but tools and technologies that actually work when you plan ahead. In this episode, we look at why fogging happens, why helmets struggle with it, and what you can do to prevent it. You'll hear from Jason Eite of VISIN about a heated visor system based on aerospace technology, and from Clinton Smout about the practical approaches riders use every day. If you ride in weather — and eventually we all do — this is one topic that can make your ride safer and far less stressful.
Lurch and I are joined by Ken Madden from Ciro and we talk about counterfeit and knock off motorcycle products. Ken is a Senior Product Designer at Ciro and he just happens to also be a Patreon supporter of Law Abiding Biker. Ken, along with Ciro and other motorcycle parts innovators and creators are being ripped off. Overseas companies that do not respect patents are recreating inferior version of the hard work others put in. Knockoff motorcycle products may look like a bargain up front, but they come with some serious downsides that riders often don't realize until it's too late. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE 1. Lower Quality Materials Knockoffs typically use cheaper metals, plastics, and electronics. That means parts can crack, fade, corrode, or fail much faster than name-brand components. 2. Poor Fitment & Compatibility These products often aren't engineered to OEM tolerances. Expect problems like: Misaligned holes Rattling or vibrating Parts that require modification to fit Components that interfere with other accessories 3. Reduced Safety This is the biggest risk. Knockoff: Helmets may not meet DOT/ECE standards Brake parts may not withstand heat Lighting may fail or deliver low visibility Structural parts can break under stress A small failure at 70 mph can become a major problem. 4. No Warranty, Support, or Testing Reputable motorcycle brands invest in R&D, testing, and customer support. Knockoffs typically offer: No meaningful warranty No replacement parts No safety testing No customer service Once it fails, you're on your own CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! 5. Shorter Lifespan (Costing More Over Time) Cheap parts often wear out quickly, so riders end up replacing them multiple times. The "savings" disappear fast. 6. Potential Damage to Your Bike Poorly made accessories can: Stress mounting points Scratch paint Cause electrical issues Throw off suspension or geometry Saving $50 on a part can cause hundreds in damage. 7. Resale & Reliability Hit Buyers can spot cheap accessories. Knockoffs on a bike can: Lower resale value Make the bike look poorly maintained Raise concerns about what other shortcuts were taken 8. Ethical & Legal Issues Many knockoffs: Copy patented designs Copy brand logos Are made in unregulated factories Hurt legitimate manufacturers NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Vance & Hines V02 Air Intake Install & Overview for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles S&S Cam Kit Installation on Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight | Full Guide Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! On this episode of DEEP TROUBLE… two motorcyclists head to mid-Wales for a weekend of trail riding on the historic Strata Florida. It's November, it's wet, and Strata Florida is known for its water crossings. The plan is simple — get out, ride the lanes, and finally tick this legendary trail off the list. But as you'll hear, conditions in the Welsh hills can change fast… and what starts as a straightforward ride quickly becomes something far more serious.
