As a sought-after speaker, Chris has taken the stage at prestigious events including the Aspen Ideas Festival, South by Southwest, and Bar Convent Brooklyn. He is also a recognized mental health thought leader, with his insights featured in major outlets such as CNN, The New York Times, Men's Health Magazine, and The Today Show. Chris brings over 18 years of personal sobriety to his work, inspiring others through his lived experience and professional expertise. Residing in Austin, Texas, he shares his life with his wife and two children. He is the author of the forthcoming memoir Faster Than Light, an intimate exploration of mental health and substance use recovery. Topics Discussed: Helping individuals separate the trigger from their environment Staying in love with the idea of sobriety Having the courage and bravery to ask for help and continue to do the work Creating experiences that make sobriety worthwhile How discomfort can give us the tools for personal growth The alcohol-free movement: disrupting the disease of addiction Connect with SansBar: Website: https://www.thesansbar.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/@thesansbar/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sans_bar Connect with us on Social: IG: https://www.instagram.com/positiverecoverymd/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/groups/positiverecoverymd/ TT: https://www.tiktok.com/@positiverecoverycenter YT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4JcDF1gjlYch4V4iBbCgZg Additional Links: Want to receive the daily Positive Intervention from Dr. Powers' Positive Recovery Daily Guide? The landscape of on-premise spirits consumption has undergone significant shifts in the past few years, challenging the long-held view that primary drivers of growth for spirits brands take place on-premise. The aftermath of the pandemic has seen consumers engage differently with bars and restaurants, learn to be at-home bartenders, display increased health consciousness, and grapple with inflationary pressures that affect their spending habits. These macro-level changes have affected brands' approaches to on-premise strategies. Despite the challenges, on-premise continues to offer unique opportunities for brands to educate consumers, facilitate product sampling, and drive sales. The question now is how brands can best leverage the opportunities presented by bars, restaurants, and other venues in this evolving landscape. To explore this topic, Emmett Strack sat down with prominent players in the New York City on-premise scene at Bar Convent Brooklyn this past June. This in-depth conversation delves into strategies for fostering meaningful relationships between brands and bars in 2024 and beyond, addressing the changing dynamics of the industry and exploring approaches to on-premise engagement in a post-pandemic world.Featured Guests:GN Chan, Co-Founder, Double Chicken PleaseSebastien Derbomez, Manager of Brand Advocacy, William Grant & SonsJason Hedges, Director of Beverage, Laurent Tourondel & Founder, Bar IQMentioned in this episode:Double Chicken PleaseWilliam Grant & SonsLaurent Tourondel Bar IQWant to stay in the know about new episodes from the podcast? The spirits market is constantly driven by new trends that rise, fall, and reinvent themselves. While brand success is relative to the goals of each founder, the extent to which a business can commercially blossom in the spirits category is often determined along the lines of good timing and a laser focus on aligning with the trends of the moment.Of the many positive elements John Rexer, the founder of Ilegal Mezcal, had going for him when he formulated his brand in the mid-2000s, good timing and aligning with the trends of the time were paramount to his brand's long-term success. Now a global leader in the mezcal category, Rexer took the time to chat with Park Street's Emmett Strack at Bar Convent Brooklyn last month. The two dive into how Rexer turned an experimental passion project in Guatemala into a global supplier owned by Bacardi. They chat about how Ilegal's punk-rock ethos helped them to win over business in New York's on-premise, his advice for brands, and the challenges of introducing an artisanal spirit to the international market. During our conversation with Simon Ford, the co-founder of revered spirit brand Fords Gin, he recited an adage that could be inscribed on the walls of any successful company: “People don't do business with brands, they do business with people.” He's lived by the maxim throughout a 20-plus year career that includes experience in wine retail, bartending, spirits marketing, and, of course, entrepreneurship. In 2012, Simon and master distiller Charles Maxwell launched The 86 Company, a portfolio of high-quality and versatile spirits, including Fords Gin, developed to set a standard for modern bars and mixologists. Fords Gin emerged as one of the definitive brands represented at high-end cocktail bars around the world and was key to the acquisition of The 86 Company by beverage alcohol giant Brown-Forman in 2019. In this episode, Simon speaks about how a diverse background in spirits and hospitality helped him create extensive connections within each industry, what he means when he says that he “never pitches business,” the reasons behind successful – and unsuccessful – relationships, his belief that naivety is a gift and how he cultivated a strategic partnership with Brown-Forman. Show notes: 0:35: Simon Ford, Co-Founder, Fords Gin – Simon, who met with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif at Bar Convent Brooklyn 2024, talks about how his grandmother's book of traditional cocktail recipes and his first sip of gin helped guide his interest in spirits and what he considers to be the keys to a great brand story. He also shares his preference between negronis and martinis, how Fords Gin differentiated itself via package design and why he values industry expertise as an entrepreneur. Simon also explains why he loved the experience of selling the company and working with Brown-Forman and offers a few suggestions on esoteric bands or musicians that people should listen to, particularly on vinyl. Beverage alcohol distributors sit at the epicenter of a cluttered product landscape where, according to Mark Harmon of the Independent Distributor Network, “God isn't making any more shelf space.” Distributors only have so much time and attention they can give to each spirits brand. What's left is for brands to do everything in their power to make a compelling case that their products deserve to take up a meaningful share of a distributor's attention. Emily Pennington sat down with key figures at Southern Glazers, Breakthru Beverage Group, Skurnik Wines & Spirits, and the Independent Distributor Network at Bar Convent Brooklyn this month to discuss the current state of beverage alcohol's second tier. This diverse cast of key wholesalers offers a window into how distributors are viewing and operating the market for spirits brands in 2024. They'll explore the evolving dynamics within distribution in the wake of the pandemic and uncover what distributors are looking for when considering a new brand partnership. They'll also highlight the red flags that can derail a brand's chances of securing distribution. Bucket hats, low rise jeans, Melrose Place and how all those relate to fun tasty cocktails abound in this episode. Plus, they talk about two things that have proven surprisingly tricky when it comes to the world of cocktails - taking care of yourself and having fun. Adam, Joanna, and Zach reflect on the fact that as big drinks events and festivals like Bar Convent Brooklyn and Tales of the Cocktail have returned to being fully in-person, they don't look any different than they did before Covid-19. This week on Soul Palate, Kapri and Dee taste a delicious lineup of Penelope Bourbon. The ladies start with a download on their trip to Bar Convent Brooklyn; and an episode wouldn't be right without a few questions to make you stop and reflect. Dee and Kapri discuss what they feel is their “soul color,” and contemplate if free will is reality or simply an illusion. The ladies kiki over Justin Timberlake's ridiculous “ beat your feet” moment at Something In The Water, and Dee completes the show by introducing Kapri to the world of Numerology, as they calculate and breakdown their life path, personality, and soul numbers. For “Where We Eatin'?” Kapri and Dee drool all over again over a delicious Palstinian restaurant they discovered in Brooklyn.SUBSCRIBE | COMMENT | SHARE our YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCmWFlAZD09D0siXlvCcFBaAThis Week's LineupPenelope Rose Cask Finish Batch 3Penelope American Light WhiskeyPenelope Bourbon "Architect" French Oak Stave FinishPenelope Toasted Series - Batch 33-2Find This Week's Lineup: https://seelbachs.com/Follow on IG:https://www.instagram.com/soulpalatepod https://www.instagram.com/deestilledhttps://www.instagram.com/kapri.possiblehttps://www.instagram.com/drinkseelbachs/

During "Wit' it or Nah?" the group discusses how far is too far when searching for revenge on a cheating ex, as they also wonder if there's any hope for gun control in America. Our latest guest on The Craft Spirits Podcast is Brian Facquet of Do Good Spirits. "Do good everyday," was part of a toast in 2016 made by a friend of Facquet, who founded Prohibition Spirits in 2009. “Do good” was the last thing his friend ever said to him. Today, those words are the core mission of the Roscoe, New York-based distillery, which recently rebranded as Do Good Spirits. Back in August, Facquet spoke to editor in chief Jeff Cioletti in person at neighborhood bar Thief when they were both in town for Bar Convent Brooklyn. They discussed gin, vodka, bourbon, trends in the world of craft spirits and that name change.
