In 1978, whiskey makers at Bushmills laid down two barrels. 46 years later, they're ready to taste. Alex Thomas, the Master Blender at Bushmill's Irish Whiskey sits down with the band to talk about shepherding the oldest single malt Irish Whiskey ever released through the last few years of its journey, the rebound of Irish Whiskey as a category, and what it's like to work at the oldest licensed distillery in the world at four centuries and counting.Plus, American booze is flying off Canadian shelves - literally. The LCBO ordered all stores to pull US alcohol off its shelves in a move that may already be resolved by the time this airs? Who knows. We sure don't. And, Greg has plans to be close to hockey history in the making, thanks to his pals at Botanist gin.Love The Speakeasy but wish there was more? Up there in Northern Ireland in the picturesque village of Bushmills and almost directly next to the Giant's Causeway, you will find The Old Bushmills Distillery, the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery. And it is certainly no coincidence that the people up there often say that “without the village there would be no whiskey, and without the whiskey there would be no village”.Why that is the case, you might ask – and in steps Julie Dixon.Julie was introduced to us as “the good soul of The Old Bushmills Distillery and an Irish original”, and luckily, she took some time to record this brand new episode in situ.Get to know what happens behind the scenes up there in the small village of Bushmills and listen to Julie's lovely anecdotes brought to you straight from The Old Bushmills Distillery. Find out about the distillery's long and eventful past, its promising present and about how the people up there are trying to make sure that Bushmills is well-prepared for the future. We're sure you will enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it – Julie's warm-hearted character, her hospitality and her passion for Bushmills make this episode one not to be missed.
Along the rugged north coast of Northern Ireland, just beyond the legendary Giant's Causeway, sits the Old Bushmills Distillery—the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery, steeped in history, Irish folklore, and ghostly tales. In this episode, Aaron Sagers takes you inside Old Bushmills Distillery, where he received a warm (and whiskey-filled) welcome from Julie Dixon, Visitor Centre Supervisor. As part of Aaron's Spooky Travels exploration of Ireland, he explores the mysteries of Bushmills, from the haunting legend of the Grey Lady ghost to the fairy lore woven into the distillation process of Irish whiskey. Hear firsthand how centuries-old superstitions still influence whiskey-making today, plus a few Irish toasts and rituals you'll want to remember for your next dram. So grab a glass, settle in by the fire, and join Aaron for a journey into the spirits—both spectral and liquid—of Bushmills Distillery. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Never before on Cocktail College have we covered a cocktail that's so defined by the inclusion of a very specific type of bitters as today's drink: the Fourth Regiment. The bitters in question are of the celery variety, the drink is a riff on the Manhattan, and our guest is Chris Lemperle, who runs the bar at New York's Crane Club. If you want to celebrate your mechanical success before you've succeeded, don't expect much success - Hostus Maximus Justin Fort and Ryan the BMWery Guy test their livers with a debate of all the excellent mistakes they've made when the sips start before the work stops. From the Perrin charge tube that's supposed to take a half-hour to install, not a half-week, to the little things we miss like which way the brake pads go (and what sort of sparks they throw), there's a way to do it and a way you shouldn't (and we've tried both). Not to get too far afield, there's more gearhead goodness to be had: thinking out tube bumpers, sliding your truck into a snow drift before you crash into it, loud and noisy thug trucks, SVT's good old days, verbicide, Mitsubishi Outlanders, vintage Garage Hour cohosts, plus tasting Bushmills and Breckenridge whiskeys, Peach Crown Royal, Absolut Vodka and High Country Lager. There's also a host of tunes from Karma to Burn, 16 Volt and Deadbolt.

In this episode, the FAQ is: Using QR Codes. Are they safe? Today's Destination is: Belfast, Northern Ireland Today's Misstep: My leaky water bottle was in the overhead bin on the airplane. Travel Advice: Secondhand stores in Belfast are good deals. FAQ: Using QR Codes. Are they safe? Answer: When you open a QR code, pay attention to the context and the brand because it could contain a virus or even worse. Be careful when accessing websites on your desktop, laptop, tablet, watch, or phone. Preview the destination before you go there. A QR code from a reputable source is more likely to be safe. It is best to proceed cautiously if you find a QR code in an unsolicited email or on a random website. Criminals have placed stickers over legitimate QR codes in public places like bus stops. Today's destination: Belfast, Northern Ireland https://visitbelfast.com/ The best part of Belfast, in Northern Ireland, is outside the city and exploring the countryside if possible. See the Giants Causeway, a national treasure of 40,000 hexagonal basalt stone columns that are 40 feet tall along the coast. These were formed 50-60 million years ago. For perspective, there are 70 million people in the UK and 2 million people in No Ireland. The UK left the Left EU, but there is still a Land border with Ireland. The overall goal is one nation across the island. It's been mostly peaceful since the 198 Belfast Peace Agreement on Good Friday. The forecast usually calls for rain, so bring your gear. I booked a tour that included many of the Game of Thrones locations, and I have never seen the films, so I was not very impressed. However, I'm told that scenic, narrow roads and unusual serpentine beech trees made this series memorable. It's an atmospheric tree tunnel and a little bit spooky; on my tour, with Patrick as a guide, we made many stops for castles, caves from 400 million years ago, Bushmills's Whiskey factory, churches, and pubs. Castle at Carrick Fergis https://discovernorthernireland.com/things-to-do/carrickfergus-castle-p674971 I have relatives from Northern Ireland's Counties Leitrim and Louth, and my grandparents used to vacation along the Antrim coast and Glens National Landscape, a legacy of the Ice Age. I felt a tug of my ancestors here as I walked around a few graveyards in the countryside. I enjoyed Queen's University, the Botanic Gardens, the Ulster Museum, and Saturday Food and Craft Markets in the city. The Troubles Museum at Queen's University was really good. Its full name is the Museum of the Troubles and Peace. It's worth your visit, and it's free. http://museumofthetroubles.org/ You can read about the conflicts between the English and the Irish. I heard about them growing up, as my grandfather was born in Ireland. I can have dual citizenship, which is very common among the locals here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulster_Museum On my next trip to Belfast, I will visit the following: Titanic museum Black Taxi Cab Political Murals Tour The Crown Pub https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/northern-ireland/the-crown-bar/visiting-the-crown-bar Sandy Row: What is it? It's part of the turbulent history of Belfast. https://belfastmedia.com/the-turbulent-19th-century-history-of-belfast-s-sandy-ro Maybe by then, I will have watched Game of Thrones. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/northern-ireland/giants-causeway If you need special accessibility help, you can find wheelchair-accessible tours in the show notes. https://www.getyourguide.com/belfast-l442/wheelchair-accessible-tc239/ What else is there in Belfast? Fairies https://www.wildernessireland.com/blog/irish-folklore-fairies/ Today's Misstep: I had a leaky water bottle in the plane's overhead compartment. Tighten the seal on the water container. Mine leaked. I was on a plane and put the container in the overhead compartment. It leaked through my water container into another passenger's luggage on the flight. Join Mark on a solo adventure through the rich history of Bushmills Irish Whiskey, the world's oldest licensed distillery! While Rob's off in DC trying to rig an election, Mark will be diving into the tales of this iconic Irish brand. From their humble beginnings to their legendary flavors, we'll explore the stories behind the smooth taste of Bushmills. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Teeling family has produced some of the best Irish whiskey for decades, combining malt and grain in perfect proportions to compete with the likes of Jameson and Bushmills. Not long after selling their first run at the business to Beam, the Teelings started using their own name, building out an amazing facility in Dublin and continuing their leadership of the revival of this extremely quaffable whiskey category. With this Notre Dame sponsorship, the new owners, Bacardi, are wanting to reach an incremental American Football audience and expose more consumers their delicious, 92 proof, rum-finished flagship brand. Tropical fruit, with lemon and malt notes on the nose, Teeling's signature rum finishing imparts a mellow sweetness to the malt and grain that ties the whole blend together. Long, right finish, this isn't Irish whiskey for beginners, but makes a great beginning to any tailgate!
On this episode the Brothers talk about what music they pair with their whiskey. We all know after a long day there is nothing better than pouring a dram and listening to your favorite music to unwind. Would you agree? Maybe their list is similar to yours. Pour yourself a dram and enjoy. A.J. sips on Chivas Royal Salute 21 yr Scotch - 40% abv Eric sips on Bushmills black Irish Whisky - 40% abv
The Wren Boy in the West Sitting on the farthest spit of peninsula in Europe, Dingle Distillery is the first craft distillery in Ireland post-consolidation. From its place on the Wild Atlantic Way, Dingle set forth the path for the dozens of Irish distilleries that followed in the last decade-plus. Managing Director and son of the founder Elliot Hughes joins me to talk through Dingle's history and four expressions: Dingle Single Malt, Samhain, Bealtaine, and La Le Bride. Embracing the culture of their (and County Kerry's) Gaeltacht region, Dingle leans heavily into Celtic lore (try pronouncing the distillery's Gaelic name...I'll wait). We also talk about the significance of being the first craft distillery to open, joining the long-standing Midleton, Bushmills, and Cooley distilleries that pumped out all the Irish whiskey we drank for decades. It's more than just being the first, it's about setting an example, and they did. Thanks everyone for listening, and thank you to Elliot for entering the Whiskey Ring! _________________________________________________________ If you haven't joined the Patreon community yet, please consider doing so at patreon.com/whiskeyinmyweddingring There are 2-3 more spots available at the $25/month bottle share club level. This one is a keeper for me! I had fun tasting it neat and with two drops of water. I meant to add one drop. However, my technique was off :) So two drops made it into the glass instead of one. It worked out. I think I liked it even more. Check out the review. …Like a kid full of candy who won't shut up and go to sleep, it's the episode that would't go to bed - so much doin' and so little time. Well, it's done: Hostus Maximus Justin Fort and Porsche Boy JustMark met up in the hills for fine sopressata, Irish whiskey (that loved Justin but hated Mark) and a chat about pocket pistols - commonly called a “micro” nowadays. From Derringers to Jennings and S&Ws and LCPs, the gerhead consultants whip it out and compare misfires. When it was all said and done, it was just stuff we like (or like to hate): Jaegermeister, Kennewick Man, glue versus screws, Grenadier versus 4Runner, Hickock .45, stoned drivers, Trotski, used Porsches and guns, das hooter, Porschelish and Japlish, Metzger engines, old retaining walls, old steel and old mining history. Oh yes, plus Apocalypse Now, Heart of Darkness, Air America, Wooley Bully, Tour of Duty, Dredd and Riddick.

Tasting notes: A triple distilled blended irish whiskey from single malt and grain, Bushmill's is Northern Ireland's answer to Jameson. If you're looking for a shot to pair with a Guiness, there may be no better whiskey in the world than this! Sweet malt aroma bursting with citrus, lanolin, and tropical fruit. On the palate, Bushmills is rich beyond its price, and smooth beyond its years.
Andy and Jon discuss everything Bushmills!
On this episode we sample 3 offerings from the Bushmills distillery in Ireland. Bushmills Red Bush, Bushmills Black Bush, and Bushmills 12 year Single Malt Irish Whiskey. A happy and tasty St. Patrick's day to you all!

In our 5th season finale, Amy and Jonathan fly all the way to Chicago just for a Bushmills whisky tasting - and they don't bring any Bushmills back for me! So instead, we drink some Koval Oat, Green River Rye, and New Riff that they did bring back. Listen as they regale us about their time in the Windy City and we sample our way through some whiskey.Talk to you all again when that fall whiskey weather hits. Cheers!

Join me for My Chat with Alex Thomas, Master Blender with Bushmill's Distillery. Alex has spent most of her career in Bushmill's. A couple of year's ago she was afforded the honour of developing her own brand within the distillery and so The Sextant was born. From there she progressed from Master Blender of The Sextant to Master Blender of Bushmills, a position she cherishes. It was amazing to hear the passion Alex has for her role and Bushmills is in safe hands with her as Master Blender. Hello from Bushmills – the town, not the distillery (though I was there earlier). I am on day 2 hosting a small group tour for a women's tour company from the US. This is something new for me. Joe Erickson is my brother, is the owner/operator/painter of Painter Joe's Painting, a big (snobby) fan of fancy whiskey, and a newlywed. He doesn't like how I like whiskey or my level of enthusiasm for trying a 21 year Bushmills. We also talk about camping in places that are not campgrounds, tourist traps in the Black Hills, and Slim Buttes in Harding County. Plus how he shot a hole in his buddy's roof. The Premier League saw three fantastic Derbies! Sam and Sam breakdown Fulham's win over Chelsea in the West London Derby, United's controversial win over City in the Manchester Derby, and Arsenal's dominant victory over Spurs in the North London Derby. The bottom of the table is only separated by 2 points from 14th to 20th and Big Sam eats crow as Everton continues to implode. Huston finished a bottle of Malört to drown his sorrows. This week's beverage is an amazing Irish Whiskey, the 12-year from Bushmills that is number 16 in Whisky Advocate's Top 20 from 2022. Conspiracy 420 episode 88 The Giant's Causeway RockerMke and Rob discuss The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. It is located in County Antrim on the north coast of Northern Ireland, about three miles (5 km) northeast of the town of Bushmills. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and a national nature reserve in 1987 by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. In a 2005 poll of Radio Times readers, the Giant's Causeway was named the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom. The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although there are also some with four, five, seven or eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (39 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres (92 ft) thick in places. Much of the Giant's Causeway and Causeway Coast World Heritage Site is owned and managed by the National Trust. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Northern Ireland, receiving over 998,000 visitors in 2019. Access to the Giant's Causeway is free of charge: it is not necessary to go via the visitor centre, which charges a fee. The remainder of the site is owned by the Crown Estate and several private landowners.
