While every non-alcoholic brand is shouting Dry January, Recess is telling you to quit. Literally. Joining us is Ben Witte, CEO and co-founder of the #1 mocktail brand, to unpack a provocative new campaign that swaps all-or-nothing resolutions for something far more realistic: balance. From a bold manifesto to a full-page New York Times ad timed for “Quitter's Day,” Ben explains why going against the seasonal grain isn't risky—it's exactly why Recess is winning. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why moderation—not elimination—is the real shift happening in drinking culture How going against category conventions can create sharper brand differentiation What most brands get wrong about Dry January and behavior change How narrative-driven branding builds permission to expand into new categories Why “do the unexpected” is more than a creative idea—it's a leadership strategy Episode Chapters (00:00) Why Recess Is Telling People to Quit (01:00) The Myth of Sober Curious and the Rise of Moderation (04:30) Why Dry January Is Losing Relevance (06:45) Anti-Perfectionism as Brand Strategy (09:45) The Hidden Downsides of Rules and Streaks (13:00) Naming, Narrative, and Building Red Bull for Relaxation (18:00) Knowing When to Push Against Conventional Wisdom (25:00) Brands That Make Us Smile About Ben Witte Ben Witte is the CEO and co-founder of Recess, a leading functional beverage company built around the idea of calm, balance, and taking a break from modern stress. Coming from a Silicon Valley background rather than traditional CPG, Ben has consistently challenged category norms—shifting the conversation from sobriety to moderation and from ingredients to outcomes. Under his leadership, Recess has grown into a category-defining brand spanning mocktails, mood drinks, and relaxation-focused products sold nationwide. What Brand Has Made Ben Smile Recently? Ben points to a Thanksgiving campaign from Tito's Handmade Vodka that flipped the familiar “Turkey Trot” on its head with the idea of a “Turkey Rot”—leaning into cultural truth with humor and self-awareness. The campaign stood out by inverting expectations, tapping into real behavior, and reminding us that the best brand moments often come from saying the quiet part out loud. Crank this episode up to 11, take the cucumber out of your pants, sit back and relax because this, week, we will be taking a look at America's favorite mockumentary about Britain's not-so-famous rock band, This Is Spinal Tap! January means Tito is picking what we talk about and, with Rob Reiner's tragic and untimely passing, we thought it would be fun to honor the late great director by looking at some of our favorite movies of his, begining with this one...Spinal Tap!

To quote the Drive-by Truckers, the Viola have been falling for so long it's like gravity is gone and they're just floating. That won't stop your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots from getting on the mic and trying to figure out where it's all gone wrong, other than everywhere. It's just Hines and Tito this week as McMike's got holiday duties to attend to, but we maintain a pretty good level of absurdity regardless. This time around, we're looking back at the past couple of weeks and handing out some awards, including one we've had to rename in light of recent events. Then we take a look at some simple adjustments the Viola could make to stop losing like the losers they are. Staying in this present eventually got depressing, so we decided to look into the future and saw, well, an unremittingly grim landscape. Yep, we discuss relegation (one of us is surprisingly confident that Fiorentina's staying up) and the January mercato before closing out with a look at the coach, the fans, and the general feeling around the squad. Along the way, we learned about Mike's pandering to a younger listening demographic, Tito's Slingblade psychosis, and a new social experiment to conduct if you're listening in a crowded, public space. Thank you as always to Sport Social Podcast Network for hosting us and to Windchime Weather (Nate's got new music out!) for the music. And as always, we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making this. You could leave a rating and review if you want, but whatever. Learn more about your ad choices. Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Al Golden publicly defended safety Geno Stone ahead of the Week 18 game, offering a relatively positive evaluation of the veteran despite widespread criticism of Stone's play this season. Golden highlighted Stone's leadership and communication as key factors in the defense's improved performance over the past eight games, suggesting that Stone has played an important role in helping the unit find its footing of late. Golden credited him with getting the secondary aligned properly and being a stabilizing voice on the field. Golden explicitly pointed to Stone's contributions to recent defensive success, saying that much of the late-season improvement can be traced back to the safety's steady presence. He acknowledged that both he and Stone, along with teammate Jordan Battle, would like to have “one play back here, one play back there,” but maintained that Stone has improved from the previous year and continues to develop. Golden emphasized a positive outlook on Stone's future, stating he sees a “path forward” for Stone to keep improving with continued coaching. It's notable that while Golden praised Stone's intangibles and leadership, he stopped short of committing to wanting Stone back in 2026, deflecting future-oriented questions by focusing solely on the final game of the season. Stone is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and Golden didn't directly address plans for next year. Golden's comments have drawn mixed reactions, with many fans seeing his praise as coach-speak protecting a struggling player, while others interpret it as a genuine belief in Stone's value beyond traditional statistical performance. In short, Golden is publicly backing Geno Stone as a leader and communicator with room to grow, even as broader analysis and fan sentiment remain skeptical. ====================================================SUSCRIBETEhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNpffyr-7_zP1x1lS89ByaQ?sub_confirmation=1==================================================== LECCIÓN DE ESCUELA SABÁTICA I TRIMESTRE DEL 2026Narrado por: Eddie RodriguezDesde: Guatemala, GuatemalaUna cortesía de DR'Ministries y Canaan Seventh-Day Adventist ChurchJUEVES 01 DE ENEROLAS IGLESIAS DE FILIPOS Y COLOSAS Lee Filipenses 1:1-3 y Colosenses 1:1, 2.
In this episode of Hero or Villain, Roger Moorhouse and Patrick Bishop evaluate the military career of Josip Broz Tito, the "titan of Central Europe" who led the Yugoslav partisans during World War II and served as President until 1980. The discussion traces his journey from a decorated Austro-Hungarian sergeant major to a revolutionary swayed by communism while a POW in Russia. The hosts highlight his strategic brilliance in liberating Yugoslavia largely through indigenous guerrilla efforts and his notable "independent streak" in defying Stalin to pursue a "Third Way" during the Cold War. While acknowledging the high human cost of his tactics and post-war repressions like the Bleiburg repatriations. What do you think? Is he a hero or a villain? Cast Your Vote!
