This week, we're excited to have the opportunity to record a special episode with Matt Corley and Sara Tantlinger about a very cool project they have in the works. For those who don't know them, Matt is a writer who specializes in RPG gamebooks and who has also launched his own publishing company, Saturday Morning Scenarios. Sara is a writer, a poet, editor, and teacher whose works include the Bram Stoker Award-winning poetry collection The Devil’s Dreamland: Poetry Inspired by H.H. Holmes, To Be Devoured and Love for Slaughter. She also edited the upcoming anthology, Not All Monsters, from Strangehouse. The exciting project they are getting ready to release is the H.H. Holmes inspired novella The Devil's City and the accompanying RPG game, Horror in the Windy City. We often think of books being adapted into movies or TV shows, but I really think that Matt is on to something fun and unique by adapting literary works into immersive RPG games. The conversation with both of them was fascinating as we had a lot of fun as always but also learned what goes into creating an immersive project like The Devil's City and Horror in the Windy City. They are currently running a Kickstarter until Thursday, April 30th to help fund the project and we HIGHLY recommend backing it if you are able. The story and game are great and there are some gorgeous illustrations that will make it a must-own for horror fans. Here's a link to the Kickstarter: The Devil's City Kickstarter. During the episode, we talked about Sara's interest in H.H, Holmes, the collaboration process of The Devil's City, Matt's introduction into RPGs and his publishing company's goals, what goes into a successful Kickstarter, the benefits of outlines, adapting books into RPGs, the community aspect of building Horror in the Windy City, upcoming projects, and so much more. Check out our conversation with Matt and Sara now right here on Ink Heist or on your favorite streaming service.

In The Devil’s Dreamland: Poetry Inspired by H.H. Holmes (StrangeHouse Books, 2018), Sara Tantlinger intertwines fact and speculation to examine inner workings of H.H. Holmes, a man who committed ghastly crimes in the late 19th century and who is often credited with being America’s first serial killer. Narratively arranged, these poems offer up an evocative and chilling imagining of life and times of Holmes along with his wives, victims, and accomplices. A profound and fascinating collection for anyone interested in the riveting realm of true crime. “The building shivers beneath each curve of my footstep, my home, my castle fit for Bluebeard himself, entwining murder and luxury like salt and sugar placed gently on the tongue where each tiny grain dissolves in a way blood never will.” — from “Shades of Wild Plum” Sara resides outside of Pittsburgh on a hill in the woods. Her dark poetry collections Love for Slaughter and The Devil’s Dreamland: Poetry Inspired by H.H. Holmes are published with StrangeHouse books. She is a poetry editor for the Oddville Press, a graduate of Seton Hill’s MFA program, a member of the SFPA, and an active member of the Horror Writers Association. Sara’s poetry, flash fiction, and short stories can be found in several magazines and anthologies, including the HWA Poetry Showcase Vol. II and V, The Horror Zine, Unnerving, Abyss & Apex, the 2018 Rhysling Anthology, 100 Word Horrors, and The Sunlight Press. She embraces all things strange and can be found lurking in graveyards or on Twitter @SaraJane524 and at saratantlinger.com. Andrea Blythe bides her time waiting for the apocalypse by writing speculative poetry and fiction. She is the author of Your Molten Heart / A Seed to Hatch (2018) a collection of erasure poems created from the pages of Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyers, and coauthor of Every Girl Becomes the Wolf (Finishing Line Press, 2018), a collaborative chapbook written with Laura Madeline Wiseman. She is co-host of the New Books in Poetry podcast, serves as an associate editor for Zoetic Press, and is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association. Social Media Conference, Public Speaking, Marketing, Networking, DIY Entrepreneurship, and more with Wesley Hoffman and Corey Smale. Find them on Twitter: The Strangehouse, @thestrangehouse, Wesley Hoffman, @wesleyhoffman, Corey Smale, @coreysmale.  MHH147 -  Wesley Hoffman. Corey Smale. Today's show is brought to you by Casper. Meet the guys behind #STRANGEHOUSEWORKSHOP and @thestrangehouse Podcast. A new kind of marketing conference. Food and brew included. They hired me to speak about my longevity and how I learned to connect with my audience above all else. And that led me down the social media path pretty early on. We started our website MXPX.com on March 19, 1996. In this episode we talk mainly about the event and the business atmosphere in St. Louis. March 11. We also cover the actual planning and workflow that was done to prepare for the event. We get a little granular at times but ultimately we bare out some gems. I'm hoping you agree. We get inside a few deep layers here. I really hope you can get something good out of this talk. I did. I'm always learning new ways to live and think. As I travel I'm always meeting new and interesting people. St. Louis was no exception. Listen and enjoy a look inside the stories that make up our lives. And please send in your comments in the section below or wherever you see me on social media. TOPICS- Delayed flight. City Museum. Food. Drinks. Social media. Songs. I always change my set. So I do things I don't plan. And don't do things I do plan. It's like joy/pain. Bitter/sweet.  MORE TOPICS- Morning routines. weekly habits. Mentioned docs & TV- Viceland- Fuck that's Delicious, Bompton with Kendrick Lemar. Recent Books. Are you an entrepreneur or Freelancer?  I'm a dichotomy. I'm both. But something like a business type can't really define you. We are always making micro adjustments in our lives and in our world view. Business is the perfect example because it never stops changing and common sense is common of reason. A big turning point and catalyst for change in my life was inevitable. But specifically for me it was continued self-learning. Books. Then The Internet. Podcasts. YouTube. Documentaries. Live Performance. I study humans. And writing. Questions. Is exercise important to being happy? What does it do for you? If not, why don't you need it? 2 Pac. Hit me up. Bad boy killas. I work out to shit like that. I get serious about it. But I also think a lot. Solve problems. Ideas just hit me. Hit me up. I'm always writing down lines and ideas between sets. On my phone usually. I look like a teenager glued to my phone. But I'm writing it down cause every time I don't, I forget.  I also work out to songs like, Fat Bottom Girls by Queen. Try not getting a burst of energy with that kick drum pumping and Freddy giving so much of himself. SO music can definitely move you. However, we don't talk about Queen in this episode. Get after it! FREE MUSIC CONTEST- After the weekend I will pick 1 lucky winner from my email list. PRIZE-That person will get to choose 1 of any piece of music off of the MXPX Merch Arsenal. WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
