Before inspiring the horrors of *American Horror Story: Hotel*, H.H. Holmes' Murder Castle in Chicago was a real-life house of nightmares—filled with trap doors, gas chambers, and victims who checked in but never checked out.IN THIS EPISODE: It's one of the most infamous and macabre subjects of Chicago history – it even served as inspiration for TV's “American Horror Story: Hotel”. It's what has become known as “The Murder Castle” where serial killer H.H. Holmes committed his monstrous crimes. But even today, Holmes continues to terrify… in spectral form. (H.H. Holmes' Hellish Hotel And Lingering Haunting) *** A woman tries to save the soul of her daughter, believing her to be possessed… but her solution to drive out the demon was to murder her daughter using a holy crucifix. (Murder By Crucifix) *** What's worse than proclaiming yourself to be a supernatural being and starting your own cult? How about telling your followers you are God so you could do drugs and have sex with teenage girls? It's the disturbing true story of the cult called “The Group”. (Theodore Rinaldo – The Drug Cult Rapist) *** Shrunken heads – believe it or not, they are real. And some tribal peoples create them even today – from real human heads. But why do it at all? We'll look at the reality behind shrunken heads, the reason they are created… and even how they are created. (The History and How of Shrunken Heads) *** A terrifying series of paranormal activities invade a family's home in Wales. (The Swansea Entity) *** Tenome is a Japanese Urban Legend about a blind man who was robbed and murdered. His dying wish? To have eyes on his hands so he could see. (The Seeing Hands of Tenome) *** Unsolved mysteries are intriguing simply because they are unsolved. That's why we are so fascinated by stories of people disappearing without a trace. But one man's disappearance is so bizarre, so weird, that upon hearing the story you'll be scratching your head wondering what the heck you just heard. Lights Out: A Pioneering Horror Radio Show The radio show "Lights Out" captivated audiences with its chilling horror and suspense stories from 1934 to 1947, albeit with some interruptions. The initial run from 1934 to 1936 was followed by a hiatus, but the show's revival in 1942 reignited its popularity, solidifying its status as a prominent program in the genre. Groundbreaking Sound Design and Disturbing Narratives The show's creator, Wyllis Cooper, was already renowned for his contributions to other successful horror and suspense radio shows like "Quiet, Please!" and "The Witch's Tale." In 1943, the reins were passed to Arch Oboler, a prolific figure in radio production, who further elevated the show's reputation. "Lights Out" distinguished itself through its innovative use of sound effects and its exploration of unsettling themes. The show's mastery of sound design created an atmosphere of palpable suspense and terror, leaving a lasting impression on listeners. The narratives frequently delved into the darker facets of humanity, featuring tales of murder, madness, and the supernatural. Enduring Legacy Even today, "Lights Out" holds a special place in the hearts of old-time radio enthusiasts and horror aficionados. Its groundbreaking use of sound and its ability to deliver thought-provoking and often disturbing storylines continue to resonate with audiences. Memorable episodes like "Chicken Heart," featuring a woman trapped with a mysterious killer, and "Cat Wife," exploring a man's unsettling marriage to a feline entity, exemplify the show's enduring appeal. These episodes, among many others, showcase the chilling and suspenseful narratives that made "Lights Out" a landmark in radio history. The Adventures of Superman radio serial, which aired from 1940 to 1951, featured the DC Comics character Superman. Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938. The following year, the newspaper comic strip began and four audition radio programs were prepared to sell Superman as a radio series. Superman was first heard on the radio less than two years after the comic book appearance, with Bud Collyer in the title role. The juvenile adventure radio serial, sponsored by Kellogg's Pep, was a huge success during World War II and the post-war years, with many listeners following the quest for "truth and justice" in the daily radio broadcasts, the comic book stories and the newspaper comic strip. Airing in the late afternoon, the radio serial engaged its young after-school audience with its exciting and distinctive opening, which changed slightly as the series progressed. In the first few episodes, Superman's home planet of Krypton is located on the far side of the sun, as opposed to a distant star system as it is in most stories. During the journey to Earth, baby Kal-El grows into an adult and emerges fully grown from his ship after it lands on Earth. He is never adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent and immediately begins his superhero career. This was eventually retconned in later episodes to match the narrative of the comic books. The syndicated series, titled simply Superman, first aired via pre-recorded transcription disks over 11 stations beginning on February 12, 1940, with an origin story, "The Baby from Krypton". The series aired in 15-minute episodes three times a week until May 9, 1941, with the conclusion of the "Nitrate Shipment" storyline. By that time, it had expanded to 63 stations.

(Uwaga. I wreszcie: DLACZEGO zabijał? O tym jest pierwszy odcinek najnowszego podcastu Jagny Kaczanowskiej "Twarze zła. Zbrodnie psychopatów".

The legend of H.H. Holmes and his so-called "Murder Castle" is an American Tall Tale gone bad... Holmes wasn't just any killer—he was one of America's first real serial killers. And it wasn't just the body count that made him infamous. It was that house. Initially, people thought it was just a regular hotel, a smart business move by Holmes to cash in on the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. But, when the police finally took a good, hard look inside, they found something straight out of a nightmare. The Murder Castle wasn't some run-of-the-mill hotel with a few secrets behind the wallpaper and a revolving bookcase. No, this thing was a cathedral to the macabre. It wasn't built for guests—it was built for victims. As for the body count? Well, that's still up for debate. Some say Holmes killed as few as nine people. Others think he might've murdered as many as 200...Either way, he wasn't running a hotel—he was running a slaughterhouse. Some might even say he was running the prototypical, "Haunted House"...If you found Kinda Murdery because of the Hillbilly Horror Stories Halloween Special, thank you so much for being here! Are there really Crystal Pyramids under the water in the Bermuda Triangle?Could the film “Terrifier 3” be the Christmas bloodbath we've been waiting for? In our final bonus episode for Series 4, we're exploring the truly wild life and genuinely abominable crimes of H.H. Holmes, America's first serial killer.Part of the "Something Wicked" series, we start by chatting through how communication technology in the 19th century created a much more anonymous society, one in which a man born Herman Webster Mudgett in New Hampshire could grow up and skip across national borders, and between over a half dozen states, to assume new identities and commit both audacious acts of fraud and ghastly murder sprees for over 20 years without getting caught. We then discuss the specifics of Mudgett's life, including his multiple marriages, early career selling cadavers, and the journey that brought him to his most infamous hunting ground: Chicago, at the time of the 1893 World's Fair. From his many wild money-making schemes to the construction of his custom-built 'Murder Castle' into which he lured and dissected his victims - thought to number up to 200 people - we dig into the details. What is actually known about what he did, what is speculated upon, and how the "yellow journalism" of his time made Holmes a folk hero - all before the truth started to emerge about his grisly journey to incarceration and, ultimately, the hangman's noose.Along the way we'll also be answering important questions, such as, how many wives is too many wives? And how exactly do you build a Murder Castle? But unlike some of our previous Something Wicked subjects, there's no ambiguity about this one: Herman Mudgett was an extraordinarily evil man, and to discover quite how evil then do be sure to gather round the campfire and listen in...The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Hi friends, happy Tuesday! Today we're talking about the man who is famously known as America's first ever serial killer- H.H. Holmes. But did he kill for money, or for fun? Living in Chicago in the mid 1800s, his dream was to get rich by any means necessary, even if that meant murdering his friends, lovers… basically everyone close to him. The truth of this story is wild enough, but the lies people told to sell newspapers are next level. Do you think there's any truth to any of it? Also, let me know who you want me to talk about next time. Hope you have a great rest of your week, make good choices and I'll be seeing you very soon xo Bailey Sarian ________ : : F O L L O W M E : : Discord: http://discord.gg/baileysarian Tik Tok: https://bit.ly/3e3jL9v Instagram: http://bit.ly/2nbO4PR Facebook: http://bit.ly/2mdZtK6 Twitter: http://bit.ly/2yT4BLV Pinterest: http://bit.ly/2mVpXnY Youtube: http://bit.ly/1HGw3Og Snapchat: https://bit.ly/3cC0V9d RECOMMEND A STORY HERE : cases4bailey@gmail.com Business Related Emails : Baileysarianteam@wmeagency.com Wanna Send Me Something? Bloodstains is the startling tale of one man's search for the truth after inheriting the personal diaries belonging to his great-great-grandfather who, he discovers, was America's first and most notorious serial killer Herman Webster Mudgett. Better known by his alias H.H. Holmes, Mudgett was the mass murderer who struck terror in the nation by being the proprietor of the infamous Murder Castle and stalking the streets of Chicago during the 1893 World's Fair. During his incarceration awaiting execution, well over a century ago, Holmes admitted killing 27 innocent victims, but the evidence the author locates indicates hundreds more likely. From his investigation, Jeff Mudgett, the direct descendant, learns that Holmes' reign of terror was worldwide and not limited to Chicago as has been so widely believed. Based upon never-before-revealed historical facts, Jeff pieces together a dynamic and extraordinary puzzle, including the strong possibility that Holmes was also Jack the Ripper. Far more than a documentary, Bloodstains is precariously balanced on the very edge between non-fiction and the paranormal, as the author's research of his evil ancestor quickly takes on a personal aspect. Jeff soon fears that his efforts may have awakened the legendary "Holmes Curse" of the 1890s - the one investigated and written about by most of the nation's major publications, including The New York Times. In fact, the deeper he digs into Holmes' devilish past, the stronger the monster's hold on him seems to become, testing the limits of his own sanity as well as humanity. Racked by a mysterious and never before experienced epilepsy, Jeff suffers crippling grand mal seizures whenever he disobeys the haunting voices in his head. Finally, with nowhere else to turn, Jeff is forced to make the decisions of his genetic lifetime in a life-or-death struggle in order to win the greatest prize of all: his survival.
IN THIS EPISODE: It's one of the most infamous and macabre subjects of Chicago history – it even served as inspiration for TV's “American Horror Story: Hotel”. The building looked out of place in the calm suburb of Chicago. It was a hodgepodge podge of different materials making up a three-story structure. The ground level floor was made up of shops, the middle floor apartments. And the top floor? Well, that was for murder. Our Sources Morbid Curiosity
