Can blockchain technology which streamlines and secures supply chains operate across widely different industries?‘Yes’, says Stephan Nilsson, founder and CEO of the Oslo-based enterprise blockchain platform UNISOT. ‘Well, I might be persuaded,’ says Sukhi Jutla, co-founder and CEO of MarketOrders, a London-based online platform for the gold and diamond jewelry industry. The two entrepreneurs were brought together for this week’s episode of CoinGeek Conversations, in which Charles Miller invited them to compare their respective fields – jewelry for Sukhi, and, as his first case study for UNISOT, Stephan’s experience with supply chains in the Norwegian fish industry. The discussion revolved around how blockchain would be utilized to establish faster and cost-effective transactions, as well as boosting transparency levels within the supply chain. At MarketOrders, precious stones and jewels are constantly being moved from one location to another and because of this, Sukhi stresses transparency is key. “When something goes wrong during the process, who is to blame? There is no transparency in the industry.” To address the issue, MarketOrders is exploring blockchain solutions.MarketOrders published a white paper last year detailing the use of blockchain technology. One use case Sukhi mentions is the technology’s ability to provide tools that could help the company speed up payments hence avoiding large transaction fees. “We've got as far as creating MarketOrders Tokens. We envision this is to have an ecosystem on our platform whereby our suppliers and our customers actually settle payments using the tokens.”Stephan couldn’t agree more with Sukhi when it comes to blockchain and transparency. UNISOT specializes in the use of blockchain to efficiently manage supply chains, starting with the seafood supply chain. He outlined some similarities between UNISOT’s objective and what MarketOrders wants to achieve. “There's a lot of the same thing here, we have to take care of a product that is being moved around in the world, and today there are a lot of problems encountered while doing that, and that's where this technology can help.” Stephan goes on to describe his experience working with Bitcoin SV, UNISOT’s preferred blockchain technology. He almost refers to it as the gold standard when it comes to scalability. “With this blockchain technology [BSV], it's so scalable and so low cost.” As he points out, scalability is essential for a growing business. “You must have a system that is scalable because you don't want to rebuild your application or your whole system every six months when a couple of developers decides to put in a new function.” Sukhi admits not having heard of BSV before but after speaking to Stephan about its scalability and micro-payment capabilities, she was ready to explore further with Stephan, to find out about his UNISOT solution.Stephan didn’t shy away from speaking his thoughts on Ethereum, which Sukhi had been looking at: “It doesn’t scale: Ethereum offers a lot of solutions but none of them are in production. No one has actually been able to run this production using all the functionality of the Ethereum blockchain because it's simply not scaling.”The podcast capped off with a brief discussion on cryptocurrency and its price volatility. Sukhi reacts to the recent publicity around BTC stating, “the price volatility is a huge distraction and my focus is always on the application of the technology… blockchain is actually a technology. It's an application. It's a different way of doing something. And in my opinion, it's a far more trustworthy and efficient way to do a process that's already existing.”Stephan ended his interview with a recommendation for Sukhi and people who are interested to learn more about BSV. He suggests watching ‘The Bitcoin Theory’ with Ryan X Charles on YouTube. “It has e

This week, the spotlight falls on Sukhi Jutla, Co-Founder of the"uber for the gold and diamond industry" that is MarketOrders - an award-winning B2B platform that she launched four years ago, that enables independent retail jewellers to buy gold and diamond jewellery directly, securely and seamlessly from international suppliers, using blockchain technology. A process, which I of course ask Sukhi to breakdown for me in layman's terms! Having won numerous awards including Asian Women of Achievement, Female Entrepreneur of The Year and named a Top 100 European Digital Pioneer by The Financial Times and Google, not to mention revolutionising a previously old fashioned and often corrupted industry; the former investment banker-turned-entrepreneur sat down to chat with me a few weeks ago about the realities that she's faced behind the scenes in her business journey so far. From how she's learnt en route how to block out unsolicited advice and trust her own judgement when it comes to decision making, why she opted to sell her handbag collection to save money in the early days; to why Ben & Jerry's came in handy when she realised that she needed to walk away from £250k; to this is Sukhi's story so far!PS. Welcome to one more episode of the agile entrepreneurial podcast. And this is your host Ramesh Dontha. Today I'm very excited to bring an entrepreneur from United Kingdom. She's the founder of www.marketorders.net. She's a very sought-after international speaker, leader and qualified IBM blockchain developer winning numerous awards including Asian women of achievement, female entrepreneur of the year, and top 100 European digital pioneer by the financial times, no less and of course Google. In 2018 Sukhi made global headlines becoming the world's first number one bestselling blockchain app. Sukhi, I am so glad to have you on my podcast. Welcome. 00:53 Sukhi: Hello Ramesh and it's really, really great to be here and thank you for that wonderful warm introduction. 01:01 Ramesh: All right, Sukhi, so please, let's go ahead, please introduce yourself and then let's talk about your business. What is it? 01:07 Sukhi: Yeah, sure. So you know, you introduced me in a great way, but in my own words, I usually say I'm a bit of an accidental entrepreneur. I actually started my life as; I usually say a corporate cog. I sort of fell into that rabbit hole of doing a 9 to 5 job working for a very prestigious bank. And I was in banking for a number of years, but it was just something in my soul I think that always was quite creative and just very entrepreneurial. And over the course of the last 10 to 12 years, I've actually started a number of different businesses. Some didn't work how it, some had some you know some promise. But at the end of the day I think I was just trying to figure out what it is I wanted to do with my life. And today I'm the cofounder of market orders. And so I feel like I find what it is I'm supposed to be doing. I really enjoy being an entrepreneur and being a technology entrepreneur and marketing order today is a tech marketplace where we connect suppliers and retailers who want to buy and source gold and diamond jewelry products. And what we're doing is very disruptive, because it's a very traditional industry whereby most of the transactions when it comes to high value products like gold and diamond jewelry is still very much done in person because of that trusted element. But what we are doing is, I usually say it's like the Uber for gold and diamonds. We just, we are just a better way to help suppliers and the retailers to access the products that they need in a much more efficient manner. 02:56 Ramesh: Wow. So it's a high value business and you're using latest technology like a blockchain to disrupt the gateway. So when did you start market orders? 03:05 Sukhi: So market orders were started in the summer of 2016. So we are speaking in January 2020. So it's coming up to four years. And over the course of four years we have really iterated ...

Amazon disrupted publishing in the first wave of the Internet. Could this behemoth now be and disrupted decentralised by pebbles on a Blockchain? Today’s interviewees are Josef Marc, whose background in digital media and interest in Bitcoin led him to investigate ways to make the technology work for others, and Sukhi Jutla, author of three books, two by ‘conventional methods’ and the latest, ‘Escape the Cubicle – Quit the Job You Hate, Create the Life You Love’, the first in the world to be published on the blockchain. As Sukhi says to those who question her: “I wasn’t rejected by publishers - I rejected them!” The biggest issue for authors is, of course, getting their books to an audience. Even selling via what Josef calls ‘the A word’ and refers to as ‘the Amazon graveyard’, books get posted and then just sit. It’s up to the author to do the promoting. And even if a sale is made, and notified (eventually), Amazon keeps quite a chunk and the money doesn’t hit the author’s bank account for anything up to 6 months. Josef’s project is Publica, built on the blockchain for authors to sell or self-publish in return for a simple 10% fee of sales to keep the platform running. Authors put a book, even a draft or a chapter or whatever they want to sell to their audience, onto the platform, or run a book ICO, and sell their token - yes, a real book token - in a smart contract, managed entirely by themselves. Including the price. And when a sale is made, the reader immediately gets the access key in their wallet and the author gets instant payment in theirs in Publica’s Pebblecoin. Sukhi says there are three excitingly different things about publishing this way. Firstly, you have a one-to-one contact with the reader, in that there is no third party taking a cut. The second is that the digital files have a resale value, which you can set at the time of your smart contract. In normal life, when a book gets given away or sold, that’s it for the author - no more value. And thirdly, many people don’t know this but Amazon only has reach in 96% of the world - so even a behemoth like that can’t be truly global. And as Josef says, if you run an ICO for your book, taking advance orders which fund you to finish and distribute it to your fans, it is not like publishing and waiting for the sales to happen - you can even use your Publica page as your only website for the project. And running an ICO is much more of a conversation-starter with your fans than just selling via the Amazon mass-grave. Sukhi said she set aside an hour to set up her digital wallet, she was worried about the complexity of the technology. Ten minutes later, it was done. And a minute after that she had the app downloaded from the AppStore and she was ready to go. Her advice to other authors? It’s really simple. If this brings another way to distribute your work to a wider global audience, that has to be a good thing. And if it puts you at the centre of the financial transaction - even better! It allows authors and creatives to be empowered.

His latest collection, The Transparency of Sutures, is available on Kindle This Month's IndieVoices Each month on IndieVoices, I'm going to take a theme of interest to indie authors and talk to experts to help us understand it. Today, I'm going to discuss something that everybody is talking about, but very few people actually understand. Blockchain. My guests will be Josef Marc, CEO of a company called Publica, which is designing a blockchain system for indie authors, Sukhi Jutla, who is researching Blockchain for the Alliance, and Dan Holloway with the news. Topics discussed this week include: Introducing IndieVoices, a new broadcast from ALLi. Blockchain is something that everybody talks about, but few really understand. Introducing Josef Marc of Publica. What is the problem that Blockchain is solving for writers? You don't subscribe to a service, you subscribe to an author. Cryptocurrency for authors. What is the five-year plan for Publica? Introducing author Sukhi Jutla, who also has a banking background. She's writing a white paper on blockchain for authors Blockchain removes the middleman and gives authors more-direct access to readers. Blockchain White Paper will be released in April at the London Book Fair. Introducing Dan Holloway, ALLi's news editor. Most exciting thing about blockchain is control of rights management. At minute 17, Howard's cat, Story, contributes a couple of "meows." People are focusing on payments, but blockchain has the potential to be even more disruptive. Bitcoin and blockchain are not synonymous. Blockchain crosses national boundaries. Wordpress has a new podcast plugin that's exciting to writers. What is Geoblocking? Howard says a bad word and is "bleeped" out by an overzealous podcast producer. Information wants to be free, except when money is to be made.
