These finalists were selected last autumn and were competing for a $1 million investment. More than 300 Michigan-based startups applied. Now, just four finalists remained. This interview was one of four right before they took the stage, each pitching with the goal of the Million. LANSING, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Michigan State University (MSU) Research Foundation to announce Adrenaline Interactive as the grand prize winner of the 2026 PitchMI Championship. Following a high-stakes "Shark Tank" style competition at Grewal Hall in Lansing, the company was awarded a $1 million investment, bringing its total PitchMI winnings to $1.375 million. “Winning feels surreal. To be honest, I still don't really believe that I won, because the other companies were just so phenomenal,” said CEO and founder of Adrenaline Interactive, Max Albert. “There were four great companies up there, and I feel so lucky to share the stage with all of them. In terms of the future, this check is so meaningful to help us bring back advertising dollars to the state of Michigan.” PitchMI (pronounced “Pitch-Me”) is one of the nation's largest founder-focused startup competitions, designed to identify and invest in Michigan's most promising startups. The PitchMI Championship served as the culmination of a statewide search for Michigan's most innovative startups, highlighting the state's commitment to fostering a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem and supporting founders who want to make a career or business in Michigan. “Michigan is a place where big ideas come to life, and today's PitchMI Championship is yet another example of how Michigan is creating the jobs of the future,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “Congratulations to Adrenaline Interactive and all of the competing companies. By investing in our homegrown entrepreneurs, we are creating high-tech jobs and ensuring Michigan remains the best place in the world to innovate, grow a business, and dream big.” The road to the championship began in the fall of 2025 with four regional pitch events across the state, which saw 375 applications from founders in more than 100 Michigan communities. These regional competitions focused on key growth sectors.

Pilled Iranian Monarchists feat. Josef Burton (E371)

QAnon Anonymous

Play Episode Listen Later May 6, 2026 102:39

We're joined by former U.S. diplomat Josef Burton to examine modern Pahlavism: an online, diaspora-driven movement built around nostalgia for Iran's deposed Pahlavi dynasty and the imagined restoration of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. What was once a marginal exile politics of royalist uncles, former regime officials, and anti–Islamic Republic hawks has, in the past decade, been transformed into a bizarre right-populist scene. It's part monarchist revival, part regime-change lobby, part “Make Iran Great Again” fandom. Josef traces how this movement emerged from the trauma and politics of the Iranian diaspora, then accelerated through Persian-language satellite TV, social media influencers, think tanks, bot campaigns, and the broader ecosystem of neoconservative, Israeli, Gulf State, and MAGA-aligned regime-change politics. Pahlavism presents itself as the authentic voice of Iranians, but often functions more like an astroturfed culture-war identity: anti-regime, pro-Western intervention, aggressively nostalgic for a whitewashed “Iran before the revolution,” and hostile toward Iranian dissidents who favor diplomacy, pluralism, or any future not centered on the Pahlavi name. The movement has started to resemble a QAnon-style political subculture: very online, retribution-focused, conspiratorial, obsessed with hidden agents and imminent deliverance, and convinced that posting, doxxing, street theater, and displays of loyalty are forms of revolutionary action. But unlike QAnon, modern Pahlavism's fantasy of “the storm” has been tied to real intelligence networks, real lobbying money, and real military escalation. When the long-promised war finally arrived and failed to produce a restored monarchy, the movement was left to cope with betrayal, humiliation, factional infighting, and increasingly bizarre displays of royalist devotion. What if the thing you're using to feel better is actually keeping you stuck? In this episode, I'm joined by psychiatrist Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring, who has worked inside Big Pharma and the FDA, and what he shares will seriously challenge the way you think about antidepressants, anxiety, GLP-1 weight loss injections, emotional eating, and mental health. We talk about why so many people are being given drugs to numb symptoms without ever addressing the root cause, why food can become a form of self-medication, and why weight gain is often a symptom of something much deeper. This is not an anti-medication conversation. It's an honest one.If you're a woman over 40 who feels stuck with your weight, constantly turns to food for comfort, or feels like you've tried everything and nothing works, this episode will help you see the real issue more clearly.Because the problem is rarely just food. It's stress. It's emotional regulation. It's nervous system overload. It's identity. It's the feelings you keep trying to avoid. And until those root causes are addressed, the same patterns keep coming back. This episode is a must-listen if you've ever wondered whether quick fixes are really solving the problem… or just delaying the moment you finally have to face it.Watch my The Cravings & Fat-Burning Masterclass:  https://www.neverdietagainmethod.uk/register-podcastFollow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/max.lowery/Book a Food Freedom Breakthrough Call: https://www.neverdietagainmethod.uk/call-ig

Creep (2014) is one of the most unsettling found footage horror movies of the 2010s, and in this episode of Cutting Deep into Horror, Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi dig into why Patrick Brice's microbudget nightmare still works so well. This episode centers on Creep, the 2014 psychological horror film directed by Patrick Brice and built around the deeply unnerving chemistry between Mark Duplass and Brice himself. The uploaded episode notes describe the discussion as a deep dive into trust, manipulation, ethical boundaries, filmmaking, and emotional vulnerability, with the hosts also teasing One Cut of the Dead for next week.  Inside this episodeWhy Creep feels so real and why its awkward, intimate style makes the horror hit harderJosef as a manipulator, using warmth, humor, and vulnerability as weaponsFound footage tension and how the film turns normal social discomfort into dreadFilmmaking ethics and performance, including how the movie comments on directors, subjects, and emotional exploitationHenrique and Rachael's own filmmaking stories, including videography and client-boundary experiences that echo the film's anxietiesThe final act and ending, and why the movie lingers long after it is overThese themes line up closely with the episode chapters and summary embedded in the uploaded transcript file, including sections on wedding videography struggles, first impressions, the shift in atmosphere, the Peachfuzz reveal, manipulation, and filmmaking truths.   About the filmCreep premiered at SXSW on March 8, 2014. It was directed by Patrick Brice, with story credit shared by Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass, and it has gone on to become a modern cult favorite in found-footage and psychological horror circles. It stars Mark Duplass as Josef and Patrick Brice as Aaron. Where to watch (U.S., this week)Current U.S. availability appears to include Netflix, Netflix Standard with Ads, Amazon Prime Video, and Amazon Prime Video with Ads for streaming, with Amazon Video and Fandango At Home showing rental and/or purchase options. I'm only listing options that were corroborated across multiple sources. Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi go beyond a surface-level review and really get into why Creep feels so disturbing, how Josef weaponizes performance, and why the movie doubles as a nasty little commentary on storytelling itself.

Stijn Schmitz welcomes back Josef Schachter to the show. Josef is Founder of Schachter Asset Management Inc. The discussion centers on the significant disruptions in the global oil and gas market caused by recent geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East. Schachter provides a comprehensive analysis of the current energy landscape, highlighting the potential long-term implications of supply constraints and infrastructure damage. According to Schachter, the conflict has already removed approximately 14 to 16 million barrels of oil from daily production, with strategic petroleum reserves and shadow fleet inventories currently offsetting the supply shock. He anticipates that if the war continues, oil prices could reach $80-$90 per barrel by year-end, with potential risks of prices climbing to $150-$180, which could trigger significant demand destruction. They discuss the broader implications for the energy sector, with Schachter emphasizing that the current environment presents attractive opportunities for investors. He recommends focusing on companies with large reserve life indices, low operating costs, and attractive valuations. Specifically, he highlights Canadian energy companies in natural gas and oil sands sectors as promising investments. Schachter notes that the energy landscape has fundamentally changed since March 1st, with companies now needing to focus on growth strategies. He believes the sector is still in early stages, comparing it to being on the fourth hole of a golf course, with significant potential for future development. Companies with strong balance sheets and the ability to capitalize on higher commodity prices will be best positioned. The conversation also touches on potential demand impacts, with Schachter suggesting that prices above $150-$180 per barrel could trigger severe economic consequences, potentially leading to demand reduction that would stabilize prices. He recommends investors carefully evaluate energy companies, looking at metrics like finding and development costs, operating efficiency, and management’s equity stake. Ultimately, Schachter believes the energy sector offers significant long-term investment potential, particularly for those willing to be patient and strategic in their approach. Pourquoi le mot “robot” vient-il du tchèque ?

Choses à Savoir

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 2, 2026 2:00

He explains why he now believes psychiatric medications don't work for most conditions and describes how time-pressured, checklist-based care and “chemical imbalance” narratives lead to escalating drug cocktails without addressing root causes. He warns that benzodiazepines may help short term but can worsen anxiety over time, cause interdose withdrawal, degrade sleep architecture, and impair concentration, making them a “Faustian bargain,” and stresses slow, supervised tapering due to difficult withdrawal. Dering outlines non-drug approaches targeting body, mind, and “soul” (health behaviors, skills-based therapies, relationships, and meaning). Architect Mariam Issoufou has always been very ambivalent about museums: "Who decided that the only way to look at art is inside this intimidating, grand building, full of looted objects? For me, they are where history goes to die". So she was sceptical about accepting the job of designing a new museum in the city of Tambacounda, Senegal. Will she succeed in creating a museum that breaks the mould? With thanks to Mariam Issoufou and her team, Bassem and Wassim Shaaban, Professor Harriet Harriss PhD, Professor Lesley Lokko OBE, the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, and Nicholas Fox Weber

TODAY on the GWA Podcast: the renowned art historian and writer, Nicholas Fox Weber discussing ANNI ALBERS! A graduate of Columbia College and Yale University, who received his PhD at the University of Groningen, Weber is a prolific and esteemed author of over a dozen books – including The Bauhaus Group, Le Corbusier, Balthus A Biography, Patron Saints, The Art of Babar, and many more – as well as being the founder of a non-profit organisation that supports arts, education and medical care in Senegal… But! The reason why we are speaking to him today is because, for nearly 50 years, he has devoted himself to the lives and works of the pioneering 20th century German-born artists – who lived in the US for much of their adult life – Josef and Anni Albers. As the Executive Director of their foundation, Weber has written extensively on them, bringing their work to the fore, and championing and preserving their legacy. While Josef Albers is a trailblazing artist whose theories on colour, and teaching methods, have shaped much of contemporary art, it is the brilliant Anni Albers who we will be discussing today. Born in 1899, and a student of the Bauhaus and a teacher at Black Mountain College, Albers is known for spellbinding weavings that span large-scale practical wall-coverings to smaller thread-based works that she infused with geometric, rhythmic patterning and electric colouring. The first artist working in textile to be honoured with a major solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, and a celebrated writer known for her books – On Designing / On Weaving – Albers, it is fair to say brought the medium into the modernist world, while also deeply rooting it in ancient textile traditions from around the world. I am delighted to be speaking to Weber ahead of the publication of his extraordinary new book, Anni Albers: A Life, out this April, that charts the life of this artist who he was lucky enough to call a close friend, and who we are lucky to now witness in a new way thanks to the extensive personal stories he has gathered from the many times they would meet, whereby he would rush to write down everything she said verbatim, so we could one day have this extraordinary record. It was a great weekend for motorsports in Phoenix as IndyCar had a successful return to the desert as part of its doubleheader with NASCAR. Conor Daly was in town to take part of the festivities, and he's reporting what he saw on a new edition of Speed Street. He joins Producer Bobby to break down the action from the high paced one-mile oval, debate who was wrong in the on-track collisions and celebrate the enthusiastic environment surrounding the event. They also look ahead to the Arlington Grand Prix this weekend and give some picks for the series' inaugural trip to Jerry Land. Race winner Josef Newgarden joins the show to discuss his 2026 season so far, which currently finds him atop the IndyCar points standings. A sneaky good day in St. Pete and a closeout victory in Phoenix gives the two-time champion a five-point margin over Kyle Kirkwood. The guys discuss using the high line on ovals and how a love for high-speed corners has led to Josef ranking seconds on the all-time IndyCar oval wins list. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
