Sky, Storytelling, AI and the Future of Youth Education with Nishy Lall In this episode of The EdTech Podcast, Philippa is joined by Nishy Lall, a strategic senior leader with over 15 years' experience shaping large-scale social impact, youth engagement, digital equity and inclusion programmes across the UK, Europe and the US. Nishy leads Sky's youth and social impact work, helping young people fulfil their potential through digital access, creativity, storytelling and real-world industry experiences. Through initiatives such as Sky Up Academy Studios, The Edit, and wider Sky youth programmes, she shares how Sky is opening doors into media, technology and creative careers for young people who may not otherwise see those pathways as available to them. This conversation explores how immersive media experiences, AI, creative technology and industry partnerships can help young people build confidence, communication skills, digital literacy and a stronger sense of belonging. From creating news reports in professional-style studios to using tools such as Adobe Express for storytelling challenges, Nishy explains how Sky's programmes support both teachers and learners by connecting curriculum, creativity and future skills. At the heart of the episode is a powerful message: opportunities shape futures. When young people are given access to the right environments, tools and encouragement, they can begin to see themselves differently — not as a finished article, but as someone with agency, curiosity and potential. Episode Summary Nishy Lall from Sky joins The EdTech Podcast to discuss how Sky's youth programmes are helping young people build confidence, skills and aspirations through digital media, AI, creative technology and real-world industry experiences. The conversation explores Sky Up Academy Studios, where young people step into studio environments, take on production roles, create their own news reports and experience the power of storytelling from script to screen. Nishy also shares the impact of The Edit, Sky's schools-based storytelling challenge developed with Adobe, which gives young people access to creative tools and the opportunity to explore themes such as climate change, diversity, mental health, wellbeing and media literacy. Philippa and Nishy discuss the role of AI in education, the importance of ethical and responsible use, and why young people should be supported to see technology as an enabler rather than a replacement for human creativity. They also explore digital equity, inclusion, teacher support, lifelong learning, creative career pathways and the importance of helping every young person feel that they belong in future-facing industries. Key Themes Sky's youth and social impact work Nishy shares how Sky's social impact programmes are designed to help young people fulfil their potential through digital access, creativity and future skills. Sky Up Academy Studios The episode explores how students visit immersive studio spaces, take on roles such as presenter, editor, director and camera operator, and create their own media content linked to curriculum themes. Digital equity and access Nishy describes digital equity as fairness — ensuring young people have access to tools, experiences and environments that allow them to express themselves and discover new possibilities. AI, creativity and responsible use The conversation explores how young people are already engaging with AI, why prompt literacy and critical thinking matter, and how AI can support ideation and storytelling when used responsibly. Creative technology and career pathways Sky's programmes help students understand the range of roles within media, broadcast, film, storytelling and creative technology, opening up pathways they may never have previously considered. Supporting teachers and curriculum learning The discussion highlights how media production can bring subjects such as history, geography, English, climate education and online safety to life in new and memorable ways. Belonging, confidence and inclusion Nishy shares examples of young people thriving in studio environments, including those who may struggle in traditional classroom settings, and explains why confidence and belonging are central to long-term impact. Kaila Yu lived many lives before she decided to write a memoir. As an actress, musician, and import model, Kaila learned firsthand about all the ways it is challenging to be Asian American, particularly as a woman. But she didn't write about that experience until seeing her fellow Asian Americans attacked and vilified in 2020. Now a travel, food and culture writer, she has released a memoir titled Fetishized: A Reckoning with Yellow Fever, Feminism, and Beauty. In this book of essays, Kaila challenges the pressures Asian American women face to perform for the white male gaze and details some of the history surrounding that social pressure. With Fetishized, Kaila is shining a bright light on a specific prejudice in our country and I am excited to amplify that light with our conversation today. Sheena shares her experience of growing up as a 7=year old having just arrived in Canada from the Philippines and how humiliating it was not to see one person who looked like her on TV, in magazines, on streets. “Preethi Nair is a one-woman whirlwind” – Harper Collins Preethi Nair worked as a management consultant and gave it up to follow her dream and write her first book, Gypsy Masala. Having been rejected by most publishers, she set up her own publishing company and PR agency to publish and promote the book all whilst putting on a suit and pretending to go to work. Working under the alias of Pru, Preethi managed to gain substantial coverage and after two years of a roller-coaster journey, she signed a three-book deal with HarperCollins. She won an Asian Women of Achievement Award for her endeavors and “Pru” was also shortlisted as Publicist of the Year for the PPC awards. Having never acted before (not even at school), Preethi went on to write, act, and produce Sari: The Whole Five Yards, a sell-out one-woman show in the West End. Sophia's definition of happiness @ 0:00Sophia discusses her background in the corporate world, including roles in management consulting, a hedge fund, and consumer companies. She explains that she never really aspired to be an entrepreneur, but was inspired to start Oddball after becoming frustrated with "catfish foods" - highly processed products masquerading as healthy. Also, seeing more diverse role models in entrepreneurship gave her the courage to make the leap. When she was younger, she did not see female founders that "looked like her". So in the beginning of her career, the thought of starting up on your own was too daunting. We are also talking about the importance of meaningful work, making a difference in the world and meaningful relationships. Sophia explains that as she has grown, she has learned to rely on different friends for different needs, rather than expecting one person to fulfill all her needs. She openly shares her challenges with stress and anxiety, and finding ways to truly relax and recharge. She finds solace in activities like travel, exercise, and discovering new, beautifully curated spaces. Connecting with other entrepreneurs also helps provide perspective and motivation when she struggles.Sophia started Oddball to create a healthy, minimally processed snack inspired by how ate growing up in Hong Kong and Singapore: balanced and whole food-based eating. The goal is to bring bach the fun and joy into snacking, without the guilt or pressure associated with many health foods today.Sophia is gearing up for a nationwide launch by the fall and discusses the lengthy prosedd of perfecting the product formulating and building out the team and supply chain to support the larger launch.Follow and learn more about my guest today:Instagram: Sophia Cheng LinkedIN: Sophia ChengInstagram: Oddball WorldWebsite: Oddball WorldTo learn more about SHIFT HAPPENS, click here To learn more about Claudia's business Curated Conversations and her Salons in New York, Zurich and Berlin, click hereYou can also connect with Claudia on Instagram @shifthappens.podcast and LinkedIn at ClaudiaMahlerNYCThis podcast is created, produced and hosted by Claudia Mahler.Social Media support Magdalena Reckendrees

What you might not know about Sierra (unless you watch her new special, FUNT) is that she's also a little sister. She and Jordan discuss that list, and why Sierra isn't interested in representing anyone but herself onstage. Sense of Self invites listeners to reflect on their own self-narratives and explore the forces that shape their identities. Through these conversations, we hope to inspire listeners to embrace their true selves, question the stories they tell themselves, and embark on their own journeys of self-discovery.A note from our host Dr. Gowri Aragam:I had the privilege of exploring the stories of women of color who have rewritten the scripts they were given. In each episode, we delved into their journeys of self-discovery, discussing the defining moments, relationships, and pressures that shaped them. These women shared their experiences of feeling disconnected from their self-narratives and the process of reclaiming their identities. In their stories, we hear about finding strength in adversity, rediscovering one's voice, and embracing authenticity, and the importance of inner security and self-acceptance. Ultimately I hope that Sense of Self can be a platform for listeners to reflect on their own narratives and explore the stories that shape who they are. Thanks for being here. A note on ethics, process, and safety: The individuals in this podcast have graciously shared their stories and it's important to note that while these discussions are enriching and enlightening, they are not a substitute for therapy or mental healthcare. Please note that each guest has given their consent to participate, had full control over what aspects of their journey were shared, and either currently engages in therapy or has done so in the past. Thanks from all of us at Sense of Self and The Mission Entertainment.
This is an episode that feels very personal to me, and one I feel will be able to connect with so many others. My guest, Sheena Yap Chan, is The Wall Street Journal Bestselling author of “The Tao of Self-Confidence” and an award-winning podcast host who has interviewed hundreds of Asian women about their inner journey to self-confidence, which is all part of her journey to help women overcome their self-limiting beliefs and live a better life. When I read Sheena's book, I appreciated her desire to bring these cultural and historical mindsets to the forefront. Too often, we inherit limiting beliefs and behaviors that hold us back, and I really saw my own experiences reflected in those pages. These barriers of self-confidence, imposter syndrome, trauma — these are universal challenges, and I think it's so valuable that more people are openly talking about their experiences overcoming these roadblocks because, as Sheena shares in this episode, it's so much harder for us to do that without community, without stories to fuel us with inspiration. So I hope you are inspired by Sheena's story, and I'm thrilled that I can support her on her mission to help Asian Women live their authentic selves and create a stronger voice in the world.Resources:Learn more at https://www.sheenayapchan.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sheenayapchan/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sheena.yap.chan/

Today's episode is my first completely unedited, extremely raw update - recorded in my bathroom, where I often talk to myself. Before you worry; I am A-OK, and honestly in a better place now than I ever have been. I've been spending the last year(s) and especially the last six months really focusing on my health in all the ways: mentally, emotionally, physically. I also started a dream job four months ago, so I could not be more grateful for where I am and who I am surrounded by. Even as I appreciate all I have now, I (very often) have moments like this episode. I wanted to share these parts of my journey, and not just the “Happily Ever After, Here's How I Overcame, I'm an Asian Hustler” ending - because in life, the real ending is … death! Haha. I will continue to feature guests, but now and again I'm considering sharing my unfiltered ramblings since they require a lot less editing. Here goes….*Vyvanse, the drug I mention, is prescribed to those diagnosed with ADHD **correction: Uncle Ben, not Aunt May says “with great power comes great responsibility” - this has been attributed to Winston Churchill, Voltaire, etc…IG: GetRAW_podcast Stephanie@getrawpodcast.org
Introducing Justin Ross Lee the "Super Charged Super Jew" who refuses to fly anything other than first class or private, runs a company called "Pretentious Pocket Square," which sells super d paisley silk pocket squares with names like,"the Bateman" "the Madoff." A guy who calls himself the "Jewish Robinhood" because he deigns to leave first class and pour the "putz's" in coach glasses of Moet. If you combined things like: Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Global warming, bottle Service, private Planes, South Beach, corporate greed, trust fund babies, herpes, russian prostitutes, Bravo TV, cocaine conversations, new money, all the Real Housewives, guys who don't wear socks, investment bankers, Republicans, Hermes belts, Dolce Gabbana anything, and put them into a blender and then added a dash of semen, a gallon a jet fuel, and a sprinkle of Vagisil and you would create the Molotov cocktail that is Justin Ross Lee. His ringtone is Ass n Titties by DJ Assault, claims he doesn't like Asian Women because he doesn't do the "MSG" and is dripping in so much false testosterone and confidence that you feel like you have to take a shower the moment you lock eyes with him. It took him all of 5 minutes to show me a picture of his Tower of Piza leaning dick which has got to be a record for me. And even though he loves girls who are "shiksalicious," meaning fake tits, big vacant eyes, and super blonde hair with a crucifix hanging in their cleavage, our entire conversation was spent with him trying to figure out whether he wanted to fuck me, or kill me maybe both at the same time who knows. This was a challenging interview for me because while he represents pretty much everything I hate on the planet I ended up really enjoying our conversation and liking him. To a fault I commend anyone who has the chutzpah to do something different in a funny way, and let me tell you this mother fucker is hilarious. He's memorized a million sound bites and spits out his little mantras like a tennis ball machine hooked up to a nuclear powered generator right at your head. I can't even fathom the amount of time he has spent in front of the mirror like Stewart Smalley. (I'm Good Enough I'm smart enough and gosh darnit people like me.) Yet, we got along swimmingly...which is disturbing onto itself But let me be clear, Justin is whip smart, and has found way to literally fake it until he made it.. So with no further ado, I present to you J.R.L vs Z.N - 35 minutes of head to head battle...who wins? I'll let you decide. (the answer is EVERYONE LOSES) Recorded and edited originally by Jimmy Vallance Remastered by Josiah Lejuwaan Music: Fame - David Bowie Rivolta - Polo and Pan Here are some great tweets from him: Hopping a Gulfstream GIV down to Boca to thaw out my matzo balls. #FuckTheWeather#TheJewishAmericanDream Subaru needs to re-market itself as the official vehicle of slow driving lesbians with too many pets. (this is very funny) The novelty of a gorgeous model wears off the moment you fuck her and realize she's no better than anyone else. I think I'm in an abusive relationship with LA. Every time I beat the shit out of her she always comes back. I make a flight attendant come with one finger. Did you grow up wishing you looked different? Because there was a lack of representation in leadership and in the media. In this episode with Sheena Yap Chan, we discuss: - Why she is an Asian woman but wanted to have blonde hair and blue eyes, and what was the one small thing that allowed her to change. - How sometimes you don't know where we're going, and why it's important to keep taking one small action that will lead to a big change overall. - What you can do to create the change you want to see, and build your personal brand. - Why it's important to share your struggles because your identities, voices, and unique stories matter. - How you can create a podcast that has over 1 million downloads and get a paid publishing deal with one of the top 5 publishers in the world. - How you can let go of toxic narratives that you should be a certain way, and start advocating for yourself and setting healthy boundaries. - How you can be aware of generational trauma and shame, and embrace who you are and forge your own path. In this episode we interview Professor Elisabeth B. Armstrong. Armstrong is a professor of the Study of Women and Gender at Smith College. She teaches courses on feminist political praxis, with a focus on transnational feminist movements seeking social, economic and environmental transformation. Her courses include Marxist feminism, Women, Money and Transnationalism, decolonial feminist archives and gendered movements about the land, food and survival. Many of her courses are community-based research courses linked to regional and international community movements for the basic needs of land, food, labor, and embodied self-determination. In addition to the book we discuss in this episode Armstrong is the author of The Retreat From Organization: U.S. Feminism Reconceptualized, and Gender and Neoliberalism: The All-India Democratic Women's Association and Its Strategies of Resistance. In this conversation we are here to talk about her latest book Bury The Corpse of Colonialism: The Revolutionary Feminist Conference of 1949. In 1949, revolutionary activists from Asia hosted a conference in Beijing that gathered together their comrades from around the world. The Asian Women's Conference developed a new political strategy, demanding that women from occupying colonial nations contest imperialism with the same dedication as women whose countries were occupied. This book tells the remarkable story of how these bold activists constructed a blueprint for anti-imperialist feminist internationalism and shows how movements create a revolutionary theory over time and through struggle. The book is a great discussion of conjunctural analysis, the dedication of these women militants, from communist parties and other antifascist, anticolonial, and anti-imperialist formations in the 1940's. We talk to Dr. Armstrong about how these women developed their strategy, what they were experiencing in their struggles, and how they sought to put their strategy of an inside/outside approach to anti colonialism and anti-imperialism into practice in the middle of the 20th century as the international anticolonial movement was developing.
