Friends of the Rosary, Today, September 29, is the feast of the Archangels St. Michael, St. Gabriel, and St. Raphael. This feast, superseded by the Sunday Liturgy, is called "Michaelmas" in many countries. The three Archangels, Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, are the only angels named in Sacred Scripture, and all three have important roles in the history of salvation. Michael (Who is like God?) was the archangel who fought against Satan and all his evil angels, defending all the friends of God. He is the protector of all humanity from the snares of the devil. Gabriel (Strength of God) announced to Zachariah the forthcoming birth of John the Baptist, and to Mary, the birth of Jesus. His greeting to the Virgin, "Hail, full of grace," is one of the most frequent prayers. Raphael (Medicine of God) was the archangel who cared for Tobias on his journey. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, "The existence of the spiritual, non-corporeal beings that Sacred Scripture usually calls "angels" is a truth of faith. The faithful join with the angels to adore the Trinitarian God. Angels are pure, created spirits, heavenly beings of a higher order than humans. The name angel means servant or messenger of God. Angels have intellect and will and are immortal. They have no bodies. They are distinct from saints, which men can become. They are a vast multitude, but each is a person. Archangels are one of the nine choirs of angels listed in the Bible. In ascending order, the choirs or classes are 1) Angels, 2) Archangels, 3) Principalities, 4) Powers, 5) Virtues, 6) Dominations, 7) Thrones, 8) Cherubim, and 9) Seraphim.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come! Friends of the Rosary, Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, a feast to behold the truth of who God really is: a communion of Persons: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Introduced in the ninth century, the feast of the Blessed Trinity needs to be understood as the solemn expression of our faith in this triune life of the Divine Persons. The Father sent his all-obedient, all-loving Son and the Holy Spirit—the fruit of the love of Father and Son—who came to dwell in the Church, in order to fill our hearts with a true love of God and to share with the uncreated Persons of the Trinity and with one another a communion of divine life. Only in heaven we will properly understand what it means, in union with Christ, to share the very life of God through the Holy Trinity. Today is also the Memorial of the St. Philip Neri, superseded by the Sunday Liturgy. Come, Holy Spirit, come! Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! In this Episode… Kelsey Bosworth Bonavida did not know what was coming. In April of 2010, she and a friend went to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish for Sunday Mass. It wasn't just any Sunday Liturgy though…it was Pentecost. As Holy Mass started, the ladies knew something was different. Somehow, in some new way, God was moving. And it became the experience of a lifetime! In this new series “Touched by the Spirit”, Kelsey takes us back in time to explain how the Holy Spirit moved in her life. It is remarkable. Acts 11:1-18 records Saint Peter retelling a story about what he had experienced with a group of Gentiles who had come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. During the time together, Peter witnessed the Holy Spirit at work in their lives, but he needed to give an explanation to the Church in Jerusalem as they questioned his wisdom and judgement. Father Blackburn explores the assumptions made by both Peter and the Jewish Christians and how we sometimes find ourselves in the same mind as they are. We apologize that this sermon appears later than usual; there were a few technical difficulties with the recording equipment, and Father Blackburn had to record it after the Sunday Liturgy.
