The Pope insists that AI may imitate reasoning and creativity, but it cannot possess conscience, moral responsibility, love, suffering, transcendence, or the spiritual destiny proper to the human person. Human beings must never be reduced to data points, behavioral predictions, or economic units.Technology is never morally neutral, says the Pope. AI systems reflect the intentions, ideologies, and power structures of those who design and deploy them. Because of this, Leo XIV warns against allowing a small number of governments or corporations to concentrate excessive technological power. Friends of the Rosary,Today, May 26, is the Memorial of St. Philip Neri (1515-1595), a gracious, cheerful saint, and Rome's apostle of the sixteenth century.Born in 1515 to a wealthy Florentine family, the young Filippo Neri was brought up with a classical education by the Dominicans of the Monastery of San Marco.His unique charism was his burning love of God, a love that he communicated to all. So ardently did this fire of divine love burn that in his twenty-ninth year, the beating of his heart broke two ribs. It was a wound that never healed.A great educator of youth, Philip Neri, often visited the seven principal churches of Rome. He spent entire nights at the catacombs, near the tombs of the martyrs, meditating on heavenly things. He had a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and burned with an unbounded love for mankind.As a confessor, he was in great demand; among his penitents was St. Ignatius. Friends of the Rosary,Today, May 1, Friday of the Fourth Week of Easter, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Joseph the Worker.St. Joseph educated Jesus and patiently schooled him in carpentry. By the daily labor, offered to God with patience and joy, St. Joseph provided for the necessities of his holy spouse and of the Incarnate Son of God, and thus became an example to all laborers.“Work was the daily expression of love in the life of the Family of Nazareth,” explained Saint John Paul II.The feast of St. Joseph the Worker was established by Pope Pius XII in 1955 to Christianize the concept of labor and to give all workmen a model and protector. Pope Pius XII expressed the hope that this feast would accentuate the dignity of labor and would bring a spiritual dimension to labor unions. "Workmen and all those laboring in conditions of poverty will have reasons to rejoice rather than grieve, since they have in common with the Holy Family daily preoccupations and cares," said Leo XIII.Alleluia! The Lord spoke of treachery: “The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me.”Bishop Barron writes, "Consistently, human beings have preferred the isolation of sin to the festivity of the sacred meal. Theologians call this tendency the mysterium iniquitatis (the mystery of evil), for there is no rational ground for it. In their road to Emmaus, the disciples' perception was clouded by grief and shock — while Christ showed his patience. In their confusion, they saw the necessity of Christ for true understanding.Emmaus represents every Christian's journey. Do not be afraid.”Throughout the Scriptures, water is a symbol of danger and chaos, darkness and disorder, and God has lordship over all of that.At the beginning of time, the Spirit of the Lord hovered over the surface of the waters.Later, through Moses' prayer, the Israelites, escaping from Egypt, confronted the waters of the Red Sea and walked through the midst of the waves.In the New Testament, the boat with Peter and the other disciples is a symbol of the Church, which moves through the waters as we move through time.Bishop Barron writes, “All types of storms—chaos, corruption, stupidity, danger, persecution—will inevitably arise. But Jesus comes walking on the sea. Yet His miracles in governing the whole world are so constant that almost no one considers the wonderful works of God exhibited in every grain of seed.""He has reserved to Himself certain works beyond the usual course of nature, that those who lightly esteem His daily works might be struck with astonishment at beholding not greater, but uncommon works."The Holy One made the earth, so it's not about marveling at his miracles but seeking to know its depth and understand its spiritual meaning.For example, the five loaves are the five books of Moses. The two fish signify the priest and the ruler, who were anointed to sanctify and govern the people in the Old Testament. Christ came sustaining in His one person both characters. In it, Christ said:“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. What is born of flesh is flesh, and what is born of spirit is spirit.”Spiritual rebirth means ongoing transformation by the Holy Spirit. It goes beyond baptism. It's faithfulness to the teachings of Christ and His Church, resulting in a personal, living relationship with Jesus.Spiritual rebirth is not just intellectual assent. We cannot manufacture it on our own. The work of the Spirit is mysterious, powerful, and beyond our control. It's God's gift.So the question remains: Are we living as born-again people? Friends of the Rosary,Today, March 29, is Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion, the beginning of Holy Week. This feast commemorates Christ's entry into Jerusalem. Following the Jews' example, we proclaim Christ as a Victor over death and sin, taking us with Him into the kingdom of His Father in heaven.We say Hosanna to the Messiah, the Son of God, Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord.But He is the sign of contradiction, as He is acclaimed by some and reviled by others.Sent into this world to unchain us from sin and the power of Satan, He underwent His Passion, a punishment for our sins, completing the Paschal Mystery.In the Procession with the Palms, in the Gospel, we see a very large crowd spreading their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the road. People were crying out and saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David.”When He entered Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken and asked, "Who is this?" And the crowds replied, "This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee." (Matt 21:7-11)In the Liturgy for Palm Sunday, the priests and deacons wear red vestments. Friends of the Rosary,Today, March 20, a day after the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, is the memorial of St. John Nepomucene (1340-1393), a priest of Bohemia who was martyred by King Wenceslaus IV because he refused to break the seal of confession.In the Gospel, it's shown that the enemies of Christ have increased hostility, becoming more violent and more determined to kill the Author of Life.Our Lord, however, as He nears the end of His public life and awaits His hour, continues to teach in the temple during the day, and large crowds come to hear and admire Him.And while His enemies plot His downfall, Christ Jesus spends the nights in prayer on the Mount of Olives.The contrast between the character of Christ and that of His enemies could not be more pronounced.Back to today, we have to analyze whether we seek vengeance upon those who oppose us, or wish them evil, and urge others to despise and condemn them. Friends of the Rosary,Today's Gospel (Luke 15:1–3, 11–32) portrays the prodigal son.The father stands for the divine mercy of God, and the older son stands for all of us sinners who misunderstand divine love.“Everything I have is yours.”The Father says the same to us today.In this magnificent parable, we see the prodigal son agonizing over his sins, feeling a great emptiness after he turned the divine gift into the ego's possession.Finally, he realizes that only the compassion and the mercy of his father will save him.We are the real prodigal sons whom God has forgiven and brought back into his love.Also, today, the Church celebrates the Memorial of Saints Perpetual and Felicity (d. 203), two martyrs whose names are mentioned together in the Roman Canon of the Mass.These two women, relying on the strength of Christ, who was fighting with them, were exposed to the fury of wild beasts in the amphitheater at Carthage and finally killed by the sword. Friends of the Rosary,Alongside Saints Cyril (827-869) and St Methodius (826-885), we honor today St. Valentine, Bishop and Martyr of Rome (died c. 269), a blessed Catholic priest beheaded.Valentine, along with St. Marius, aided the Christian martyrs during the Claudian persecution.Claudius Caesar, the Emperor, issued a decree forbidding young men from marrying to increase the size of his army. He believed that single men made better soldiers than married men.A young priest named Valentine defied this decree and urged young lovers to come to him in secret so that he could join them in the sacrament of matrimony.Claudius arrested and brought before him, attempting to convert him to Roman paganism rather than execute him. But Valentine tried to convert Claudius to Christianity, at which point the Emperor condemned him to death.While in prison, Valentine converted his jailer, Asterius, and his blind daughter, miraculously restoring her sight.The night before his execution, the priest wrote a farewell message to the girl and signed it affectionately "From Your Valentine," a phrase that lives on even to today.After performing many miraculous cures and giving much wise counsel he was beaten and beheaded under Claudius Caesar on February 14th, 273 AD in Rome.The church in which he is buried was already the first sanctuary Roman pilgrims visited upon entering the Eternal City.Today, St. Valentine's Day is a universal symbol of friendship and affection shared each anniversary of the priest's execution. St. Blaise was a physician and Bishop of Sebaste, Armenia, and was martyred under Licinius. St. Blaise is included in the list of Fourteen Holy Helpers.On this day, the Church celebrates a "Blessing of the Throats" in honor of St. Blaise. St. Ansgar (801-865) became known as the "Apostle of the North" for his great evangelical work in Denmark and Sweden. He was Bishop of Hamburg, Germany, and then of Bremen, Germany. Friends of the Rosary,Today, February 2, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.This celebration, which takes place forty days after the birth of Jesus, is also known as Candlemas Day, since the blessing and procession of candles are included in the Mass.Christ is the light of the nations, hence the blessing and procession of candles on this day.Jesus' presentation signifies God's entrance to His temple. Soon after the Baptists' birth, God made man enter His temple, presenting Himself to those who were truly seeking Him.Attached to “Candlemas Day”, we also celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life, founded by Pope St. John Paul II in 1997. That's because the consecrated men and women are to be the light in the world, imitating Jesus, the Light of the World.On this day, the Church expresses its gratitude to all in the community who dedicate themselves in a special way to prayer, and to those with a particular religious vocation to the contemplative life.In the figures of Simeon and Anna, Jesus' presentation in the temple reminds us that prayer and contemplation are well-spent time. Only those who pray and offer penance, like Simeon and Anna, are open to the breath of the Spirit.This feast of the Presentation has a strong Marian dimension:On one hand, Simeon's prophecy emphasizes Mary's sufferings. And He said,"Blessed are the poor in spirit,for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."The significance of the "poor in spirit" is revealed in the Beatitudes. This expression points to those whose hearts and consciences are intimately directed to Our Lord and who are tried by moments of suffering and difficulty. They don't confide mainly in themselves but in God.The poor in the Bible are the humbled, just, and meek, those who bear a burden on their shoulders, but are given God's favor.They are called blessed and happy because God's merciful and compassionate gaze rests on them.The poor detach themselves from the possession of persons and things, and above all, of themselves. Friends of the Rosary,Today, January 31, the Catholic Church celebrates the Memorial of St. John Bosco (1815-1888), Apostle of Youth and the founder of the Salesian Society (the Salesians), named in honor of St. Francis de Sales, and of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Auxiliatrix, Help of Christians.Born near Castelnuovo in the archdiocese of Turin, Italy, in 1815. His father died when John was only two years old, and it was his mother, Margaret, who provided him with a good humanistic and Christian education.St. John Bosco, Don Bosco, was an enlightened educator, innovator, and leader. He had no formal system or theory of education; rather, he formulated one based on "reason, religion, and kindness." His methods centered on persuasion, authentic religiosity, and love for young people.Despite receiving criticism and violent attacks from the anti-clericals, he conducted workshops for the tradesmen and manual laborers, schools of arts and sciences for young workers, and schools of the liberal arts for those preparing for the priesthood.In 1868, there were 800 students involved in this educational system.This great apostle of youth died on January 31, 1888. Many referred to him as "the new St. Vincent de Paul." He was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1934. Friends of the Rosary,In today's Gospel reading (Matthew 11:11-15), Our Lord, while saying that "there has been none greater than John the Baptist", reveals to us:"From the days of John the Baptist until now,the Kingdom of heaven suffers violence,and the violent are taking it by force."This ambiguous passage has been interpreted essentially in two ways over the centuries.
