Father Anthony with Cristina and Tony, gather to discuss the goings on, and people in the Parish.  Father Anthony is joined by his guest Alice Babij (Bobby) today.  Father greets everyone and they briefly chat about the current conditions with the air quality being impacted by fires and then he mentions his renewed focus on the church now that the school has closed.  After prayer, Father continues his discussion from yesterday focusing on discipleship bringing Alice into that discussion.  He calls on us to consider how we navigate living our faith in these diabolical times.  For us to consider how we really become disciples-do we actually consider ourselves disciples while reminding us that we are disciples by nature of our baptism.  After a break, Father welcomes back Alice Babij (Bobby) who introduces the book “The Sword of St. Michael”, by Rev Scott Haynes.  The book explores the mysterious alignment of seven churches across Europe that appear to represent a sword.  The book explores this alignment as it delves into historical details, miracles and spiritual significance of the sanctuaries.  The book is available at priestlypress.com.   St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish priestlypress.com

Jamie and Dwaine both preached the same passage — John 5:1-15 — at different services, and now they sit down to unpack what happened when the sermon became an encounter. Fresh off week five of St Michael's "Encounters with Jesus" series, they explore the story of the man at the pool of Bethesda: thirty-eight years of waiting, one question from Jesus, and a healing that came with a challenge. You can catch up on the talks on this channel or here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwZVgOUjAOg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgABWLCljkA Dwaine opens up about preaching from experience rather than just information, and why he set up communion as a response — creating space for people to come forward vulnerably, publicly, and wait on God together. Dwaine and Jamie go into John's prologue and how the same creative power that spoke the universe into being is standing in front of this man, offering to make him new. But the episode doesn't stop at the miracle. They dig into what happens after: Jesus finds the man again in the temple and warns him, "Go and sin no more, lest something worse happen to you." Why the confrontation? Why the deeper cut? What does it mean to give Jesus the whole of your life — not 99%, but the whole? How do you stop looking to everything else to fix the problem, and finally turn to the One who can actually heal? And why is waiting on God one of the hardest things we're ever asked to do — especially when we've been waiting thirty-eight years? This episode is for: --Anyone who's been waiting a long time for breakthrough, healing, or freedom — and wondering if God really sees them --Believers who've been trying to fix their own problems and are exhausted from holding everything together --Those wrestling with the gap between God's power and their own unbelief --Worship leaders and church leaders learning to create space for genuine encounter, not just information --Christians who know they're holding something back from Jesus — and don't know how to let it go --Anyone asking: if Jesus heals me, what comes next? What does he actually want from me? The tables turn this week: Jamie Mulvaney takes the hot seat while Dwaine leads the questions. Fresh off week four of St Michael's “Encounters with Jesus” series — the healing of the official's son in John 4:46-54 — they dig into the single, disarming challenge running underneath every encounter in John's Gospel: will you take Jesus at his word? Even when his words feel harsh, countercultural, or far bigger than we can grasp. You can catch up on the ‘Sovereign' talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl1u9y21zPs Jamie unpacks the ‘Cana sandwich' — the way John brackets two miracles at Cana around the encounters with Nicodemus, the woman at the well and the temple — and what that deliberate structure tells us about who Jesus is. In this second sign, Jesus heals a dying boy twenty miles away without ever making the journey, revealing himself as sovereign over time, space, geography and death itself. If he can reach into a situation with nothing but a word, what does that mean for the situations we can't control? From there the conversation turns practical and honest: what do you do when scripture points one way and your emotions pull hard the other? Why is the gospel ‘done' rather than ‘do more' — and how does knowing who Jesus says you are reshape the way you strive, react and protect yourself? Jamie and Dwaine also talk about the fertile ground of the dry seasons, why signs are only ever signposts to the real reward (Jesus himself), and how to honour a searching friend's faith — however small the first step. This episode is for: --anyone who has asked God for something specific — and been surprised by the answer he gave instead --believers wrestling with scripture that points one way while their emotions pull the other --those learning to hold scripture and experience together through dry seasons and dark nights of the soul --Christians wanting to help searching friends, and to honour even the smallest, most fledgling faith --anyone struggling to trust that Jesus is truly sovereign over the situations they can't control Mentioned in this episode: Wendy Mann's Equip talk from the previous week, the earlier episode with Miles Toulmin, and Professor John Lennox's interview with Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO. …in which we take a midsummer stroll through Hawkshead to learn about the village's deep history and its tiny school that had a big impact – not just locally, but on the world stage. Accompanied by Joanne Heather, director of the Hawkshead Grammar School Foundation, we set out from the meadows above the village to explore Hawkshead's long history – its Norse roots, the chapelry that served Furness Abbey, and the wool trade that put the market town on the map, long before neighbouring Ambleside, Coniston and Windermere. Visiting the church of St Michael & All Angels, Joanne introduces us to the Sandys family of Graythwaite, and Edwin Sandys, Archbishop of York during the reign of Elizabeth I, who founded the school to train new generations of clergy. Arriving at the Grammar School, museum assistant manager Hollie Barker talks us through life at the school: the hours of Latin and scripture; the cock fights and sword fights; the strict rules that allowed boys (no girls) to smoke and drink, but never gamble. In the confines of the school library, we learn about old boy and London vintner Daniel Rawlinson – great grandson of Daniel Hechstetter, the patriarch of Keswick mining – who founded the school's collection of priceless books, which includes a guide to dissecting elephants. Finally, we turn our attention to the school's most famous alumnus, William Wordsworth, enrolled into the school after his mother's death, who excelled at maths and who led a seemingly idyllic school life 'midst the family trauma, with days off spent ice skating, visiting the Duddon sands and eating strawberries and cream. Hawkshead Grammar School Museum is open 1 April–31 October, Thursday–Monday 11am–4pm during term time, and daily 11am–4pm during school holidays. 2026 exhibitions are ‘Friends Before Fame', about Wordsworth's school friends, and ‘America 250', highlighting the school's links with America. More information about the museum and library conservation project can be found on Bloomberg Connects and at www.hawksheadgrammar.org.uk. New volunteers are always welcome; contact Joanne at hgsmuseum@gmail.com. The museum is hosting a series of evening talks, usually on the last Monday of the month. The talk on Monday 29 June is Mark Hatton (see Countrystrides past) discussing the history of Coniston Copper Mines and its links to the school. For details and tickets go to EventBrite and search for ‘A Talk at the School', or see www.hawksheadgrammar.org.uk.

"This Saint was from Synnada in Phrygia of Asia Minor. In Constantinople he met Saint Theophylact (March 8); the holy Patriarch Tarasius, learning that Michael and Theophylact desired to become monks, sent them to a monastery on the Black Sea. Because of their great virtue, St Tarasius afterwards compelled them to accept consecration, Theophylact as Bishop of Nicomedia, and Michael as Bishop of his native Synnada. Because St Michael fearlessly confessed the veneration of the holy icons, he was banished by the Iconoclast Emperor Leo V the Armenian, who reigned from 813 to 820. After being driven from one place to another, in many hardships and bitter pains, St Michael died in exile." (Great Horologion)

Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Temptation isn't the end of the story and it isn't even a sin. That one truth can crack open a path out of shame, especially for young men trying to live with integrity in a porn-saturated culture where the cycle of “try hard, cave, repeat” feels inevitable. We talk through the Claymore approach to Catholic formation and spiritual battle using a real moment from a men's conference in Milwaukee. Three teenage boys spot a St Michael banner with a flaming Claymore sword, walk up with a father, and end up hearing something they've been aching for: a battle plan that's actually doable. We unpack the big questions stirring in young hearts right now, identity, purpose, truth, love, and why we're created male and female, and we speak plainly about sex, sexuality, lust, and the desire to be free. The practical takeaway is simple enough to start today: Order The Claymore Battle Plan Handbook! Visit the Website: ClaymoreMilitesChristi.comDiscuss and Meditate on One short “ACT” from the Claymore Battle Plan Handbook each week. Talk through the discussion questions with a brother, and commit to the 10-minute morning ritual. We call it “knees before the phone,” and it includes “praying with temptation,” a concrete way to redirect desire toward freedom and fulfillment. You'll also hear Luke's unforgettable line, “I've been praying for this,” and why we believe the world changes when we pass down what is true, good, and beautiful. If this stirred something in you, don't ignore it. You've been the strong one for so long you've forgotten what it feels like to be held. And your body is starting to keep score. Sound familiar? In Episode 4 of The Soul's 8 Thresholds of Transformation, Nina Hirlaender OFS takes you to St Michael's Mount off the coast of Cornwall, where the land itself asks you a pointed question: Are you shining, or are you burning out? This is the Summer Solstice threshold — the place where your full visibility, leadership, and power either become sustainable or consume you. Drawing on the theology of Julian of Norwich, the calm authority of Archangel Michael, and a story from a pilgrim named Margaret who realized she'd been "fighting like she was afraid she'd lose," Nina offers a grounded path to radiance that includes receiving, not just giving. You'll leave with a five-minute practice that trains your nervous system to hold power without strain. What You'll Learn:Why your success feels hollow when your body is running on adrenaline and your joy has quietly disappeared. The moment on St Michael's Mount that shows you exactly how you approach every challenge in your lifeWhat Julian of Norwich understood about power and tenderness that most modern leaders get dangerously wrongA five-minute practice that rewires your nervous system to hold visibility without grippingThe one shift that turns overgiving from a fear response into genuine, sustainable strengthYour Next Steps:Watch the free class replay: "The 8 Seasons of the Soul (And How to Know Which One You're In)": https://nina-hirlaender.mykajabi.com/8-seasons-of-the-soul Register for the final Celtic Shamanism in England pilgrimage (May 23 – June 2, 2026): https://dancingspirittours.com/journeys/england/Book a call with Nina: https://calendly.com/nina-hirlaender/15minSupport the showRate, Review & Follow If Holy Rebels has helped you practise your spirituality in real life, would you take 30 seconds to leave a quick rating and review? The Rev'd Dr Thomas Plant (Fr. Thomas) was installed and licensed as Rector on Monday 12 May 2025 following four years as a university chaplain in Tokyo. He has previously served in Lichfield Cathedral School, St Michael's Camden Town and St Peter's Berkhamsted. He holds a 2nd dan black belt in Aikido and enjoys playing blues piano and the Japanese shakuhachi flute. He is also a sci-fi, fantasy and real ale fan.
