In this marathon episode, Lionel dissects the legal absurdity of hate crimes, arguing that the justice system has turned prosecutors into mind readers. The conversation pivots to a "Round Two" of COVID nostalgia, where he roasts Dr. Fauci and dissects Ilhan Omar's "mysterious" encounter with apple cider vinegar. Battling a freezing studio, Lionel shifts gears to "Epistemology for Dummies," debating whether God picks political sides and explaining the difference between reality and how we perceive it. Finally, on The Other Side of Midnight, take a trip through the bizarre history of Atlantic City diving horses and 1905 doomsday prophecies as Lionel shadowboxes with the absurd. Keith Paul of Good Egg Dining discusses the challenges and strategies of navigating the modern hospitality landscape, particularly in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City markets. Keith shares insights on the resilience of the restaurant industry, his philosophy of hands-on coaching and management, and the necessity of prioritizing human connection over "clunky" AI and automation in service. They also examine the economic pressures facing the industry, from minimum wage hikes in California to the rising Consumer Price Index (CPI), emphasizing that slow, intentional growth and a picky hiring process are key to long-term stability.Key Takeaways Industry Resilience: Despite revenue problems and national chaos, the restaurant industry remains one of the most resilient sectors. Coaching as Management: Keith's approach to leadership involves understanding the court (the business) and coaching people rather than just managing silos. Local Market Focus: Keith emphasizes the value of a deep local presence in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, managing multiple successful concepts within a specific neighborhood. Recruiting for "Smiles": Hiring should focus on innate hospitality traits—like a genuine smile and comfort with people—rather than just technical server skills. The AI Disconnect: Many current AI and robotic solutions in restaurants are still "clunky" and risk devaluing the human experience. Picky Growth: Success often comes from having no desire for rapid, uncontrolled expansion; instead, being picky about the team and locations ensures quality. Economic Pressures: External factors like the $20 minimum wage in California and general CPI increases are creating "scary" new realities for hospitality margins. Deep Customer Conversations: Moving beyond surface-level interactions to "deeper conversations" is essential for high-value enterprise wins. High-Fidelity Service: In an era of mobile apps and digital exposure, the fastest way to lose a customer is to neglect the "human" element of the mission

William Person is a former nine-year Team USA Bobsled athlete whose career left him battling the devastating effects of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). At his lowest point, he could barely get up off the floor, lost in confusion, depression, intense headaches, and a deteriorating brain. Hope came when he discovered Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which restored clarity in his thinking, color to his vision, and purpose to his life. William shares his story to raise awareness of brain damage in sports, the military, and other lifetime collisions and share the importance of protecting and healing the brain. His mission is to open a nonprofit CTE Recovery Center to help athletes, veterans, and civilians heal from brain injuries -- at no cost to them. To realize this mission, he's launched a GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/93ff9c6e, which will help him raise funds to purchase a medical grade hyperbaric oxygen chamber to open a CTE Recovery Center where anyone battling CTE and brain injury symptoms can get free treatment. William's YouTube channel is at https://www.youtube.com/@BrainInjurySurvival. The State of Wisconsin's Dose of Reality campaign is at Dose of Reality: Opioids in Wisconsin. When therapists start sending clients to us, it's usually because the real issue isn't communication or labels — it's unbroken cycles, emotional reactivity, and unhealed identity patterns. We talk about why people keep choosing the same partners, why labeling someone a narcissist doesn't fix the problem, and how cognitive distortions keep you stuck in the same outcomes. If you've been through therapy, books, or programs and still feel trapped in the same relationship dynamics, this episode will challenge how you think about healing. This conversation is about responsibility, consistency, and becoming the kind of person who no longer repeats the past — whether you're married, divorced, or preparing for your next relationship. If you want a different future, you can't rely on insight alone — you have to become someone new.

This week on Power House, Zeb sits down with David Kooris, Executive Director of the Connecticut Municipal Development Authority, for a wide-ranging conversation on how urban planning shapes the long-term success of communities. David explains why urban planning is no longer just about zoning and land use, but a holistic approach that balances infrastructure, housing, climate resilience, and economic development. He shares insights from his own unconventional path into the field (spanning architecture, archaeology, and planning) and how that perspective influences his work supporting municipalities across Connecticut. The conversation explores why demand is shifting away from sprawl toward walkable, compact communities; how climate risk is reshaping development decisions; and why community engagement has become central to successful projects. David also offers practical guidance for investors and developers interested in transit-oriented development, emphasizing the importance of understanding both the public and private dimensions of place-making. Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn: Why urban planning is becoming a holistic community strategy Why walkable, compact communities are gaining demand How community engagement shapes successful development Why investors must consider the broader neighborhood context How climate risks are influencing planning decisions What best-in-class community engagement looks like today Why successful developers actively curate amenities and public space Related to this episode: David Kooris LinkedIn Connecticut Municipal Development Authority The Power House podcast brings the biggest names in housing to answer hard-hitting questions about industry trends, operational and growth strategy, and leadership.
