On this episode of Le Run Down we went on an adventure with ultra distance runner and World explorer Ray Rahab. Looking at him now you'd never guess he used to be a big smoker and drinker. But in his early 30's he decided he had enough and changed the course of his life. He's travelled through jungles, extreme cold and grueling heat. Crossed countries, continents and thousands of miles. Including crossing the sahara in 111 days, which opened his eyes to all of life's possibilities. Grant Writing & Funding
Ep. 145. 5 Virtual Fundraising Ideas For Thanksgiving

Grant Writing & Funding

This year is definitely a bit different when thinking for end of year fundraising. Let's be real.  But not doing fundraisers may not be an option (and shouldn't be) for your nonprofit, or the nonprofits that you serve.  Let's be real. People still want to give to your nonprofit. And some people may have some extra cash this year as they aren't traveling and doing all the normal holiday things. Other people may even realize the impact your nonprofit really has in the community and understand that you haven't been getting the funding you normally do. Therefore, I encourage you to do your fundraising events. But I also realize that you may not be able to do the good ole brick n' mortar (or live) ones that you usually do. So here are some great ideas for nonprofits to do some virtual fundraisers over this Thanksgiving or over the holidays in 2020 and beyond. 1. Build Relationships - Thank Your Current Donors Before you start asking for money, you want to make sure you first have given thanks. This is your time of year to also recognize those who have given in the past. So give a shout-out and nurture that relationship before you ask for another donation.  Ways to thank your donors:  Snail Mail! Send out a thank you card! We love snail mail right now! Recognize (and tag) donors on your social media accounts. We are all online more right now. Be sure to recognize people! For a list of 15 Creative Ways to Recognize Donors and Thank Them, you can listen to Podcast #33. 2. Virtual Turkey Trot Fun Run & Scavenger Hunt A fun way to earn some funding on Thanksgiving is to organize a Turkey Trot 2K, 5K, or 10K. But what about now? Virtual fun runs are all the rage right now. Adding a virtual scavenger hunt can be tons of fun (and way less work than organizing an in-person 5K, believe me).  I love Scavify. :) 3. Baking Competition This is a great way to add a variety of food for people right now. We are all tired of cooking and ordering and need some variety! Host a seasonal baking competition utilizing the top bakers in your community. Entry fees can be very nominal to try out samples of the baked goods. This competition will create a buzz about the baked goods and may not raise a lot of money, BUT to upsell you can create an online order form for people to order the winning baked goods! So, all of a sudden the pumpkin pie that won the competition, you can now sell pre-orders on your website! 4. Gift Baskets Create a gift basket, complete with your logo and a brochure about your organization, and go get corporate orders! Yes, corporations love giving out gift baskets to their clients and staff, but they also want something new and meaningful each year. If they order the gift basket from your organization, you can still include the typical cheese, fruits, and baked goods, but you can also add your swag and personal touch so everyone that receives the basket knows that their gift benefited a nonprofit! Tip: Take orders (paid orders) from corporates beforehand so you do not hold onto any unwanted inventory. 5. Holiday Virtual Trivia Night This is a fun alternative to an in-person trivia night. People want to have fun right now and this is a great way to still have people connect and have fun online. Have people register online with a certain monetary charge per team. Get some great donated prizes and find some snazzy holiday trivia questions! So those are 5 Great Virtual Fundraising Events for Thanksgiving! Favor, please? If you love this podcast, would you please do me a favor and leave a review on iTunes or your podcast listener? This helps others find the podcast and I read each and every review! If you have any questions, feel free to email holly@grantwritingandfunding.com I’d love to connect with you!

Sometimes guests are hard to secure during the holidays. Sometimes you are pulled in many directions and don't have the same time for your show. That's OK. Make the use of this time to improve your podcast for next season. Listen to these 10 tips you can start right away.  You can listen, or just jump to this list without the logic behind it: Review all posted episodes for typos, check links. Review your music, commercial, intro, outro. Is it time to freshen them up? Is host info still current? Verify your host and team have added to their LinkedIn profiles. Can you do a few recap episodes - highlight reels to save production time during the holidays and year-end? If these are in a drip campaign, test each drip, links, graphics to make sure they all work. How does your show look in all the podcast venues? Have you missed any or have new ones been added like Podchaser that you want to be listed in - it's free. What about a "tell us your favorite episode" contest on social. Have them tell you a quote and a timestamp from an episode. Give out show swag. T-shirts, caps, etc. Look at your stats and do a post on the top episodes for the year and top episodes for all time to link back to them - don't forget to mention those guests, their companies, and THANK THEM!

We see them around. We know of them. We've seen them help our loved ones as they are in pain. We see them take care of strangers as if their own blood. We see them put their lives on the line as diseases threaten to take our loved ones away. And we THANK THEM for their commitment to humanity. But deep down, how well do we truly appreciate what they do? And more importantly, should it really take a pandemic for us to begin truly appreciating our Healthcare Professionals? In these uncertain times, it’s important to have cheerleaders – and THANK THEM. In this Roundtable Edition of I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, our podcast team members take a moment to recognize and celebrate our personal and professional cheerleaders. We discuss how and what they do to encourage us to be the best versions of ourselves, and why we are so grateful to them for cheering us on. We hope this inspires our listeners to call and thank THEIR cheerleaders, or to become a cheerleader for someone who needs to know someone gives a shit about them during the current existential crisis we are living.

I LOVE the mission that Tiffany and Keirstyn are on, and I'm so grateful they are willing to share their stories. They are out to bless the world, and free victims from broken-ness in relationship trauma. It's a brave journey they are taking, and I whole heartedly commend them! They want to help people become better, and I'm very happy to help spread their message with all of you. I believe in marriage, in working through issues, in forgiveness, but when it comes to abuse, I fully support the victims getting out. They talk about the shame, but they want the world to know that you don't have to be perfect to be loved.  These ladies talk a lot about what we can do NOW as we are raising our children, to help them feel their own individual worth, and I was EATING IT UP! "It's not enough that we are saying uplifting things to our kids, they have to say it to themselves."  I just hope and pray that the words of these ladies will bless others, and if you know someone that would benefit from hearing their stories, PLEASE share this episode with them.   Please see the links in the show notes to find them on their website, social media, join their forum, check out the workshops and resources they have to offer at TheRelationshipRecovery.com  I would love you to join me over on instagram: @CapturingJoy.KristenDuke to discuss this episode, and give Tiffany and Kierstyn some LOVE and THANK THEM for sharing their story! Share on instagram what tidbit you are taking home.

In a Universe that is thirteen point seven billion years old, on a planet that has only existed for four and a half billion years; our species: homo sapiens sapien, has only been around for two hundred thousand years, in fact modern day homo sapiens with our language, culture, use of tools, barter between groups, art, game playing, music, and reliance on symbolic thought only began to arise 50,000 years ago.  Civilization, as we know the word, started to arise around 10,000 years ago in the middle east, near where Iraq is today…you and I fellow runners are a part of an infant species with respect to the age of all that there is.   Think about that for a moment. Everything you know….everyone you know, everything that has ever happened in the ten thousand year history of civilization of fellow human beings has occurred only on this four and a half billion year old planet three orbits out from a four and a half billion year old star in a single, typical spiral galaxy out of a hundred fifty billion in the entire universe?   Our galaxy is moving through an expanding universe that will one day distance itself from all other existing galaxies such that the very atoms which comprise our long past living bodies will no longer exist in motion, and all that ever was will stop within an impossibly long distance between every other point of definable matter.   Why then, do we live in a world where hatred, anger; and distrust seems to prevail?  What is it about our human condition that causes us to experience such animosity and distrust?  Ignoring that question, if we take the premise as fact: then what are we to do about it?   Well, here’s one thing we can do: and maybe this won’t change the course of the mighty river of war, or hold back the tide of hurt, pain and hate…but if we as a community of fellow runners can demonstrate to those around us that we can be friends despite our many differences: if we can, by example, explain to anyone we interact, socialize or come in contact with that we have friends all over the world, who run together every day…and if we can take a global event like the World Wide Festival of Races and use it as an example where good people of different nationalities, different religious backgrounds, different ethnic origins, different social or sexual lifestyles and different political interests can overcome all those differences and extend respect and dignity across a little blue bubble that we share together in space: then we’ll have done our part.    Thank you for being a part of this fifth annual world wide festival of races.  Thank you for being a friend and helping to celebrate this community of fellow runners, who today ran all over the world: in Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, the Channel Islands, China, the Congo, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Gabon, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, South America, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, Vietnam and the Virgin Islands.   It is an honor to run with you.  Think Global, Run Local.   Show Links:   Please support in the fight to stop the Nike Corporation from forcing Indonesian workers into slavery.   THANK YOU BLACK LAB! The Song “Start a Fire” was an exclusive release by the Official Band of the World Wide Festival of Races: BLACK LAB, from their new album “Two Strangers”.  Go to to download TWO FREE SONGS as a Virtual Goody Bag Gift from Paul and Andy.
