The God of the Holy Bible has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. So when life becomes overwhelming we have the option to turn to Him and let Him be the support we need. Guest, Karen Dittman shares the insight she's gained through her seasons of life on the hamster wheel. She knows that God meets on that wheel and she's here to share the various ways we can do more than survive, we can thrive even in the midst of overwhelming situations. Summary: - Karen Dittman discusses her journey of faith and personal growth amidst challenging life circumstances. - Of her two books, one focuses on the benefits of 7 minutes with Jesus, practicing gratitude and the other is a simple yet life changing perspective on wellness from a biblical perspective, introducing concepts like the Grace Cycle. - Karen's life was profoundly impacted by her daughter's addiction, which led her to seek a deeper connection with God. - She describes feeling overwhelmed during a difficult period, likened to being on a "hamster wheel," with multiple personal and family challenges. - A pivotal moment was when she learned to surrender control and place her daughter "on the altar," trusting God's plan for her. - Karen emphasizes the importance of experiencing God's presence in the midst of life's struggles, rather than seeking to change the circumstances. - Her journey led to a deeper understanding of God's love, transforming her perception of her own worth and identity in Christ. - She discusses the concept of the grace cycle in her latest book, promoting gradual, supportive changes rather than drastic overhauls. - Karen concludes by reassuring the audience that they are not alone in their struggles, as God is always present and ready to offer support and love. Podcast Intro: Karen Dittman, my guest on this episode, shares her journey through overwhelming personal challenges. I say overwhelming because in an by itself each one of these challenges could take its toll on any of us and Karen was juggling many of these life challenges at the same time. In Karen's personal example she didn't have the option to put life on hold, catch her breath and reengage. Life was coming non-stop, fast and furious and in serious ways. Serious responsibilities that included her husband and her children. She and her husband fostered and adopted, and after struggling years with infertility she's surprised with a bio child at 47 (God has a sense of humor right!). She discovers that her adult daughter is struggling with addiction, and Karen has walked through other challenges with her children, things like anxiety, ADHD, autism. Rather than delve into each one of these areas we touched on a couple but I thought it important to discover how did Karen learn to lift our head under the weight of everyday life. I want to know not only how she survives but actually thrives. What did she discover about Jesus in the midst of what she terms as life on the hamster wheel? Life can be very chaotic and I loved the way Karen pursed the heart of God for a practical solution that met her where she was at. She discovered that God cares about the hamster wheel and that He had solutions and practices that would keep her tethered to His heart, walking His pace and staying in grace, peace and true joy. We talked about her book: Thriving in Grace: Unleashing Wellness from a Biblical Perspective. I found great value in the Grace Cycle. A process for change that focuses on acceptance, small steps to turn things around and celebrating progress. The Grace Cycle is so simple and yet life changing. I scratch my head sometimes. How is it that I overlook the power of Christ's simplicity. There are often times when the simplicity of God is my stumbling block to breakthrough! Also, Karen has a spiritual discipline of spending 7 minutes with Jesus throughout the day. I knew immediately the value of this because when I am intentional about making this a priority to my day I'm refreshed, I have clarity and I'm motivated. So I loved this reminder. She gives us great info on the benefits of 7 minutes with Jesus and how she practices that but she goes into greater detail in her book The Fruit of Gratitude: Cultivate a Thankful heart of Experiencing God's Goodness. Karen's ability to find peace and purpose through pain serves as a beautiful inspiration for those of us facing similar challenges, offering hope and practical guidance for deepening one's relationship with God. That my friend, intimate relationship with our Creator enables us to lift our head under the weight of life in its most crushing seasons. Let's listen in so that we might discover how to live loved and thrive in the midst of the overwhelming seasons of life! To be cynical is to have a mindset of seeing the world as if everyone is out for themselves. If you are a cynic, you may find yourself suspicious of everything and distrustful of other people. You may find it hard to see the world and humanity as redeemable. American pastor and influential 20th-century author […]
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:12
In this sermon, Pastor Ed explores Psalm 92, a psalm of thanksgiving, and delves into how cultivating a grateful heart enhances our spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. Drawing from biblical principles, practical insights, and illustrative stories, we unpack the profound benefits of living with gratitude and reflecting on God's goodness. Key Themes & Takeaways: Purpose of Psalm 92 A weekly hymn for the Sabbath, celebrating God's steadfast love and faithfulness. Gratitude is central to our relationship with God, as it fosters joy and strengthens faith. The Power of Thankfulness The psalmist highlights the goodness of praising God, both in the morning (to set the tone for the day) and at night (to reflect on His faithfulness). Benefits of gratitude include better sleep, improved mental health, and stronger relationships. The Righteous vs. the Wicked God blesses the righteous with spiritual vitality, strength, and fruitfulness, even in old age. In contrast, the wicked, though they may flourish temporarily, face ultimate destruction. Expressions of Gratitude Worship through music and instruments enhances the experience of thankfulness. Declaring God's works reminds us of His faithfulness in our lives. God's Judgments and Blessings His judgments on evildoers demonstrate His justice and sovereignty. Love, joy, and peace are the pillars of a healthy heart. Thanksgiving activates love, joy, and peace inside of you. Thanksgiving is a perspective. It is not based on what you've been through but what you choose to think about.

Biblical Examples of Solitude (1 minute)** - **Jesus sought solitude for prayer and renewal**: - *"Mark 1:35 says, ‘Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.'"* - *"Jesus made solitude a priority even amidst a demanding ministry."* - **Solitude before major decisions**: - *"Luke 6:12 tells us, ‘Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.'"* - *"Before choosing the twelve disciples, Jesus spent the night alone with the Father."* - **In moments of distress**: - *"In Matthew 26:36, Jesus withdraws to the Garden of Gethsemane, telling His disciples, ‘Sit here while I go and pray over there.'"* #### **3. Practical Steps for Practicing Solitude - Set aside intentional time: - "Start small—find 10 minutes in your day to unplug from distractions and focus on God." - Choose a quiet location: - "Like Jesus, find a ‘solitary place' where you can focus." - **Use the time to pray and meditate on Scripture**: - "Bring a verse like Psalm 62:5 – ‘My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.'" - "Solitude isn't about escaping life—it's about stepping away to reconnect with God so we can return refreshed and refocused." - "This week, take a moment of solitude and seek God's presence. Start with Mark 1:35 as your inspiration." **(23:00 – 0:00)* * PART 1 Intro: Living as a "new self" is not just an inward change but should be visible to others. Gratitude should be an outpouring of this new life in Christ. 1. Overflowing with PEACE: Gratitude Rooted in Unity (v.15) Paul calls us to let Christ's peace rule, promoting unity and gratitude within the body of Christ. Application: Gratitude fosters unity, while bitterness and self-centeredness tear it down. What actions come out of a Thankful heart and influence our unity? - promotes humility, readily forgives, lifts up others, etc 2. Overflowing with WISDOM: Gratitude increased as We Grow in the Word (v.16) When the word of Christ dwells richly in us, it transforms our minds, shaping us into grateful, wise people. Application: A heart filled with Scripture is naturally inclined toward thankfulness. The better we know God and understand what He has done for us, the more thankful we will be. 3. Overflowing with PURPOSE: Gratitude expressed in All We Do (v.17) Living in the name of Jesus, on His mission, means every act—big or small—is done with thankfulness to God. - Application: We can honor Christ in all things when we remember that everything we do is an offering of thanks. A person who sees their work, family roles, and daily interactions as opportunities to thank and glorify God. How does a Thankful Heart encourage us on the mission of Jesus? -reminded of what Jesus did for use -want others to share in the blessing **(00:00) END PART 1** **(27:00 – 5:00) BEGIN PART 2** Why Thankfulness Matters - It reflects a heart aligned with God's will and purpose. - Gratitude transforms our perspective, shifting focus from circumstances to God's goodness. The Command to Be Thankful 1. Biblical Foundations - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. - Psalm 107:1: “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” - Emphasize thankfulness as a command, not an option. 2. Thankfulness as Obedience - It's part of submitting to God's lordship. - Disobedience in thankfulness can lead to bitterness or discontent. Thankfulness in Difficult Circumstances 1. Biblical Examples - Job 1:21: “The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” - Habakkuk 3:17-18: “Though the fig tree should not blossom... yet I will rejoice in the LORD.” - Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” 2. God's Sovereignty and Goodness - Trusting God's plan even when it's not clear. - Thankfulness as an act of faith and trust. The Fruit of Thankfulness 1. Influences Your Relationship with God - Deepens your relationship with God. (Psalm 50:23: “The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me.”) - Promotes joy and contentment (Philippians 4:11-13). 2. Your Thankfulness Influences Others - Thankfulness is contagious and glorifies God before unbelievers (Matthew 5:16). - It fosters unity and encouragement within the church body (Ephesians 5:19-20). 3. Practical Challenge - Write a letter of thanks to someone who has blessed you. Closing Thoughts 1. Key Points - Thankfulness is God's will for you. - It's not dependent on circumstances but rooted in who God is. - It transforms your heart and your witness. 2. Challenge - Memorize 1 Thessalonians 5:18 this week. - Start a blessing journal, remember what God has done. **(5:00 – 1:00)** Doctrine of the Month - Doctrine of Man Humanity's Purpose - *“Have you ever wondered why you were created? What is the purpose of life from God's perspective?”* - *“Today, we're exploring humanity's purpose according to the Bible. From the beginning, God designed us with intention and meaning.”* - *“Let's look at Scripture to understand why God created us and what our lives should be about.”* #### **2. Humanity Was Created to Glorify God (1 minute)** - **Primary purpose: To glorify God** - *Isaiah 43:7*: *“Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”* - Emphasize: *“We are made to reflect God's glory in our words, actions, and attitudes.”* - **What does glorifying God mean?** - To glorify God is to honor Him and display His character. - *1 Corinthians 10:31*: *“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”* - *“Every aspect of life—work, relationships, and even recreation—can glorify God when done with the right heart.”* --- #### **3. Humanity Was Created for Fellowship with God (1 minute)** - **God's desire for relationship**: - *Genesis 3:8*: *“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.”* - *“This verse shows that from the beginning, God desired close fellowship with humanity.”* - **Sin broke fellowship, but Christ restores it**: - *John 17:3*: *“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”* - Explain: *“God's purpose is for us to know Him intimately, not just as Creator, but as Savior and Father.”* --- #### **4. Humanity Was Created to Serve and Steward Creation (1 minute)** - **Stewardship of the earth**: - *Genesis 1:28*: *“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'”* - *“This means we are caretakers of God's creation, managing it responsibly for His glory.”* - **Good works as part of our purpose**: - *Ephesians 2:10*: *“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”* - Connect: *“Serving others and fulfilling the tasks God gives us is part of our God-given purpose.”* --- #### **5. Humanity Was Created to Enjoy God Forever (30 seconds)** - **Eternal joy in God's presence**: - *Psalm 16:11*: *“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”* - Explain: *“Our purpose includes delighting in God, both now and for eternity.”* - Summarize: *“God didn't create us out of necessity but out of love, to share His joy and glory with us forever.”* - Recap the key points: - *“We were created to glorify God, enjoy fellowship with Him, steward His creation, and ultimately experience the joy of His presence forever.”* - Call to action: - *“Take time this week to reflect on these truths. How can you glorify God in your daily life? How can you grow in fellowship with Him?”* - Encourage with Scripture: - *“As Colossians 3:17 reminds us, ‘And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.'”* **(1:00)** - “Thank you for listening today! Hi, I'm John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you're listening to Share Life Today. According to a popular survey last year, ninety-three percent of Americans celebrate Christmas. That's really amazing when you think about it! And even more shocking: many of the people celebrating Christmas don't know the Savior who it's all about. This gives us an incredible opportunity amidst all the Christmas songs, shopping, parties, and festivities to tell those around us about the true meaning of Christmas—that in the city of David, a Savior was born, which is Christ the Lord. When we talk about Jesus' birth, life, death, and resurrection, we're giving them an opportunity to respond to what Jesus has done for them. So let's share the Gospel and ask our friends and family if they want to accept the greatest gift that's ever given—forgiveness through trusting in Christ alone. It can be as easy as asking them if they know what Christmas is really all about! For help in getting started, visit our website at www.sharelife.today.

Thank you for joining us for this week's message! We are continuing to give thanks for how God is leading our church as seen in the pledges made for next three years, and today, we consider how we are led to live lives of gratitude. When we examine the life of King David as a guide for cultivating a thankful heart, we learn to slow down, to stay grounded, and to recognize the giver. If you prayed to make Jesus your Lord today, we want to rejoice with you! If you would want someone to pray with you, we are eager to do so! If you would like more information about our church, we're want to share. Please text the word "NEXT" to 407-77 so we can engage with you. Thankful Heart - Lesson 2 - Pastor Mitchell Bland
Hi, I'm John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you're listening to Share Life Today. In the past month, my grandson had his birthday, and upon receiving his gifts, he said, “Wow! These are so cool I can't stop being grateful!” We chuckled at these heartwarming words from a seven-year-old, but isn't it just profound? When we are given good gifts, we just can't help but be grateful. And we have received good gifts from our Heavenly Father–of first importance, the gift of salvation! He promised a Messiah who would come take away our sins, and He fulfilled the promise of salvation through Jesus to all who would put their full trust in Him. We have seen God's goodness and faithfulness through Jesus, and we can also cling to His other promises that He's made for us. The result is a heart ready to believe God at His Word and fulfill His purpose for our lives. Let's obey Jesus by following His Great Commission to us to go and share the Gospel with our communities and families! For help, visit www.sharelife.today.
Hi, I'm John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you're listening to Share Life Today. What is a major characteristic of a heart changed by Jesus? Well, it is a spirit of joyous, vibrant, passionate thankfulness. As people rescued from sin and darkness, we are transformed into grateful children of God who walk in His light. And as His ambassadors, we're told to walk in the Spirit, grow in Him, and tell others about who Jesus is and what He did on the cross. As we learn more about what we've been rescued from—God's wrath, the debt of sin, our old fallen nature...our gratefulness to our Savior also abounds. So let's be planted like the tree found in Psalm 1—by streams of water, which yields its fruit in the season. Our growth comes from Christ and our fruit should be blessing those who walk by us with the message of the Gospel that saved us. Let's tell others about the Savior that we are thankful for and the Good News of the Gospel! For more, visit www.sharelife.today.
Thankful Heart - Pastor Mitchell Bland
Christian virtue is not just knowing the definition, but it is in putting virtue actively in the presence of every moment. The virtue of trust, thanks to God in all things, must be acted out in a real life to be understood and copied.
