Overachiever. Perfectionist. The strong one. The one who holds everything together. Most of us wear these labels like personality traits. But what if a lot of them are actually who we have to become? In this episode, I'm taking a closer look at the survival patterns that show up so often in the women I work with and mentor; the ones that started as solutions to real pain and real environments, and somewhere along the way became an identity. This isn't about shame or tearing down what's gotten you this far. It's about getting curious enough to ask: is this a God-given gift, or is this a strategy I no longer need? Also, don't forget!
Josh Berman was an Ivy Leaguer on his way to becoming a professional skier when a catastrophic knee injury derailed his chances of becoming pro. But Josh's passion for skiing was as strong as ever and pre-surgery, Josh strapped up his leg, headed up the mountain and went out and shot for his first Level 1 Production. What was supposed to be a 3-year adventure in filmmaking turned into an award-winning 25+ year career in snow. It's one of those episodes that I had to record, for historical purposes, before I end the Movement. Freedle Cody asks the Inappropriate Questions. In this podcast, Greg Voisen sits down with Rosie Ward, Ph.D., author of Future-Proofing Leadership: Navigating Change and Disruption to Thrive in an Uncertain World. Together, they expose the hidden "stuckness zone"—the widening gap between an increasingly chaotic world and the ancient, self-protective biological hardwiring that causes leaders to freeze, panic, or micromanage when disruption hits. Dr. Ward peels back the corporate mask to share a deeply personal look into her own journey, proving that no one is entirely immune to the subtle internal biases that quietly sabotage our best strategic intentions. If you have ever felt completely overwhelmed by rapid organizational shifts or wondered why your team defaults to a state of defensive paralysis when under pressure, this eye-opening conversation is your ultimate invitation to upgrade your inner operating system. By exploring the core human challenges beneath corporate strategies, this episode maps out a practical blueprint for stepping away from fear-based habits and moving confidently into authentic, resilient execution. What happens when the life that looks successful on the outside is slowly costing you everything on the inside? In this powerful episode of Leading You, Julie Hyde sits down with leadership expert, former corporate executive and author Fleur Marks to explore the hidden cost of perfectionism, burnout and achievement addiction. For years, Fleur appeared to have it all. A successful corporate career, leadership credibility, a loving family and a reputation for delivering exceptional results. But beneath the surface, she was exhausted, overwhelmed and carrying impossible expectations. Then her body forced her to stop. Following a life-threatening health crisis, multiple surgeries, autoimmune disease and cancer, Fleur found herself confronting a reality she could no longer push through. What followed became the catalyst for a complete reset of how she lived, worked, led and defined success. Together, Julie and Fleur explore why so many high-performing women tie self-worth to achievement, how perfectionism disguises itself as excellence, and why sustainable leadership requires boundaries, recovery and self-compassion. In this episode, we discuss: Perfectionism and high-functioning burnout The overachiever identity and achievement addiction Leadership pressure and emotional exhaustion Chronic stress and the impact on physical health Why ambitious women struggle with "being enough" Sustainable success and redefining achievement Boundaries, rest and recovery for leaders The neuroscience behind overachievement Excellence without self-sacrifice How to break the overachiever cycle One of the most powerful moments in the conversation centres around a simple but confronting question: "How different would your life be if you truly believed you were enough, had done enough and had enough?" This episode is for leaders, founders, professionals and ambitious women who are tired of carrying everything while quietly running on empty. Anne talks about writing engaging books without producing an overwhelming, thesis-like tome. She explains using story-based structures where the reader is the hero, emphasizes saving "sidebar" material for future books, bonuses, or social posts to test ideas, and outlines a healthy role for AI in repurposing and outlining while warning against drafting, losing voice, and copyright issues. Anne Bartolucci, Ph.D., is a writing mentor, USA Today bestselling author, and psychologist. She has over twenty novels and novellas in print under her pen name Cecilia Dominic and two nonfiction books including Better Sleep for the Overachiever as herself. In her company Psych Up Academy, she brings the fun and magic of fiction to the nonfiction writing process to help heart-centered entrepreneurs write world-changing books that readers can't help but learn from, devour, and recommend to their colleagues.
Mario Fraioli has coached hundreds of athletes and written over half a million words about running—and his most important lesson is to do less. He is the founder of The Morning Shakeout, a weekly newsletter read by tens of thousands of runners since 2015, a longtime running coach, and a Masters competitor still toeing the line himself with a 4:09 mile to his name. Two days after the 2026 Boston Marathon, Mario sat down with Dominic to break down what he witnessed, what the sport is getting wrong, and what keeps him coming back every single year.In this conversation, Mario makes the case for his "Go One Less" philosophy and why the athletes most motivated to push are the ones most likely to break—a lesson he learned the hard way through stress fractures and disordered eating. He shares what it was like training alongside some of the best runners in the country and being stunned by how slow their easy days were. And he talks about what curiosity (not ambition) has driven everything he's built, from his first newsletter issue sent to 200 people to the coaching business he never planned to have.Take the pursuit seriously. In Part 2 of this deeply honest conversation, Dr Jodi Richardson continues her chat with Fleur Marks about the hidden cost of overachievement, the importance of rest, and learning to believe: you are enough. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Danielle Griffin — somatic exercise therapist, certified hypnotherapist, and former higher education researcher — to talk about something most high achievers never want to admit: the body keeps score, and burnout doesn't just live in your mind. Danielle walks me through how years of unprocessed workplace stress, grief, and pressure physically manifested in her own life — and how she discovered somatic healing and hypnotherapy as the entry points that finally allowed her to change. What I love about her approach is how accessible it is. We're not talking about hour-long meditation sessions or clearing your schedule. We're talking about 90-second pauses between Zoom calls that actually shift your nervous system. We also get into the workplace mental health conversation — why giving employees a meditation app isn't enough, what organizations are getting wrong about burnout, and why most people don't unwind until day three of a five-day vacation (and then immediately crash back into stress the moment they return). Danielle also shares how her Rise and Renew retreat came out of watching people try to rest without the tools to actually do it — and why having guidance matters more than having willpower. And yes — we do a live 90-second somatic practice in the episode. You'll feel it. If you're a high achiever who's been pushing through, telling yourself you don't have time to pause, or wondering why vacations aren't fixing things — this one's for you. Have you ever been forced to stop… and realised the way you were living or working just wasn't sustainable anymore? Like something in your life hit pause - and you were left questioning everything you thought success looked like? In this episode of It's a Mindset, I'm joined by Fleur Marks - globally recognised leadership trainer, performance mindset coach and author of The Overachiever's Reset. Fleur built a highly successful career over two decades in senior leadership, driven by ambition, high standards and relentless performance. But that same pace ultimately led to a life-threatening health crisis - what she describes as the “waiting room of death” - forcing her to confront the reality that the way she was succeeding was unsustainable. What followed wasn't a step back from ambition… but a complete reset. In this deeply honest and powerful conversation, Fleur shares how she rebuilt her mindset, redefined success, and now helps high performers break free from the overachiever's cycle - where self-worth becomes tied to achievement and external validation. I was deeply moved by Fleur's strength of character and her ability to stay positive through such significant health challenges. This conversation is a reminder that true success isn't about doing more - it's about understanding what matters, and learning to lead and live in a way that supports both performance and wellbeing. Key Episode Takeaways: How Fleur navigated major health challenges and used them as a catalyst for change Why so many high performers are trapped in the “overachiever's cycle” The power of radical self-acceptance in breaking free from relentless striving How believing you are enough could change everything - for you and those around you The importance of focusing on what's in your control and consciously choosing your response About the Guest: Fleur Marks is a globally recognised leadership trainer, performance mindset coach and author of The Overachiever's Reset. After two decades in senior leadership at WPP, a life-threatening health crisis forced her to stop and completely rethink how she was living and leading. Today, Fleur helps high performers break free from the overachiever's cycle - where self-worth is tied to achievement - and supports them to lead with clarity, impact and sustainability, without sacrificing themselves in the process. I've been quiet for a year. And in this episode I'm finally telling you why.2025 was supposed to be my year of new beginnings. Instead it became one of the hardest years of my life — health wise, emotionally, and professionally. And the hardest part wasn't the hard season itself. It was what I made it mean about me.In this episode I'm talking about:Why high achievers are the worst at navigating lower seasonsThe hidden cost of being the "perfect child" — and what happens to your identity when life forces you to stop performingWhy the damage isn't the winter season itself, but the story we tell ourselves while we're in itThe shift that changes everything — from worthiness based on output, to worthiness as a baselineThis one is personal. And I think if you've ever felt like a lower season was proof that you were never as capable as people thought — this episode is for you.
Your calendar fills up fast.A meeting here. A “quick chat” there. Another request you say yes to… just to be helpful. And before you know it.. you're fully booked, mentally drained, and wondering when you'll actually have time to think. Not because you don't know how to manage your time…But because you haven't mastered how to decline it.In this week's BFG episode (Part 2 of the Taking Back Control of Your Calendar series), we're zooming in on one of the most underrated leadership skills: The Clean No.Here's what we unpack:The anatomy of a Clean No—a simple, no-drama way to decline requests (without overexplaining, apologizing, or leaving the door open for negotiation)The subtle habits that are keeping you overcommitted—like soft nos, guilt-driven yeses, and “just this once” decisions that quietly overload your calendarHow clear, direct boundaries instantly elevate how you're perceived—so you're seen as decisive, focused, and operating at a senior levelBecause saying no isn't the problem. It's how you're saying it.If every decline turns into a paragraph…If you find yourself justifying your time…Or if “no” somehow keeps turning into “maybe”…This episode will show you how to communicate boundaries in a way that's clean, confident, and actually respected.Enroll in BFG: Want to eliminate stress, self-doubt, and overworking so you accelerate in your demanding corporate career without grinding your way to the top? You know exactly what you want to say. You've rehearsed it in your head. It's clear. It's sharp. Today we explore the concept of the inner child, or the parts of self from childhood that may be subconsciously influencing our life as an adult. The inner child carries both positive traits like creativity and playfulness, as well as negative unresolved traumas, fears, or unmet needs. Today's conversation ends with a guided inner child exercise with Dr. Betsy. What We Cover in This Episode: The common question of why dredge up memories or feelings from childhood when it is in the past. Whether it is necessary to work with inner child if you have few memories from that time period or if you had a “relatively” happy childhood. The major signs that your inner child is in the driver's seat. The 7 inner child archetypes: The Caretaker, The Overachiever, The Underachiever, The Rescuer/Protector, The Life of the Party, The Yes Person, The Hero Worshipper. A tool for reparenting yourself. Charisma Quotient: Build Confidence, Make Connections and Find Love
Are you a smart, successful and high achiever who has your life together but when it comes to dating and flirting you feel completely stuck? What if the very strengths that make you thrive at work are holding you back in your love life? In Episode 435 of The Charisma Quotient, "Breaking Free from Overachiever Habits in Dating: Coaching with Kimmy," Kimmy sits down for a coaching call with Elena, a smart, stylish, and accomplished woman who finds herself struggling to tap into her feminine energy, especially in the dating world. They dig beneath the surface, exploring the root causes behind why high-achieving women often get stuck in the friend zone rather than the flirt zone. Elena bravely shares her experiences growing up in a Latina, Catholic household where strength, leadership, and independence were heavily emphasized—and how those qualities, while powerful in her career, present real challenges in romantic scenarios. Kimmy breaks down three key roadblocks—from childhood conditioning and cultural influences to control as a form of emotional safety—which can make it difficult to relax, be playful, and enjoy receiving attention. You'll hear: How career-driven habits can sabotage your ability to flirt and connect in romantic settings The difference between leading with masculine energy vs. tapping into your feminine energy (and why it matters) Why many high-achieving women default to "interviewing" on dates and how to break this pattern The impact of early family and cultural messages around strength, attractiveness, and being "enough" Kimmy's targeted advice and specific "homework" assignments to practice receiving attention and getting comfortable being seen If you have difficulties being playful, flirtatious and having fun with dating, then join Kimmy's next LIVE co-ed workshop How To Meet People IRL. You'll learn how to use your energy, body language, and subtle flirting cues to invite connection without forcing it or feeling awkward. Just go to www.stophatingdating.com to register. Hurry! Do you feel like the only way to stay ahead at work is to control everything—every detail, every outcome, every possible problem before it happens? For high achievers in demanding corporate careers, the drive to overwork and grind often comes from a deeper belief: If I stay on top of everything, I'll stay safe. But the truth is, the constant need to control can quietly create the burnout, anxiety, and exhaustion you're trying to avoid. In this episode, I unpack the control illusion—and why learning to let go of what isn't yours to carry is one of the most powerful leadership skills you can develop. In this episode, you'll learn:Why high performers often overwork as a way to feel in control—and how that pattern actually fuels stress and burnoutThe six hidden reasons many leaders feel the need to control everything at workThe mindset shift that helps you stop focusing on what you can't control and start leading from clarity and confidenceA simple daily tool—the Leaning In vs. Letting Go T-Chart—to help you redirect your energy toward what actually moves your career forwardBecause the most effective leaders aren't the ones gripping tighter and tighter to every outcome. They're the ones who know when to lean in—and when to let go.Enroll in BFG: Want to eliminate stress, self-doubt, and overworking so you accelerate in your demanding corporate career without grinding your way to the top?
