Enjoy this sneak peak into the Stories of Hope with Dr. Samuel Thomas Podcast!  Dr. Samuel Thomas of Hopegivers International paints the heartbreaking picture of the life of a street child in India. Without a stable home or a mother and father to care for them, children are forced to scrap, beg, or steal. Many of them are trafficked, forced to take drugs, and work for criminals who keep them addicted and enslaved. Hopegivers works to rescue orphaned, abandoned, and at risk children from circumstances like these. They bring them into Hope Homes where the children are loved, fed, educated, and cared for in the name of Jesus Christ.  Listen to this episode and then follow the Stories of Hope with Dr. Samuel Thomas podcast to hear the full journey of hope from an unwanted child to a pioneering church planter and pastor.    Bio Dr. Samuel Thomas is a pastor and the President of Hopegivers International, a ministry that rescues and redeems at risk and abandoned children in India and Haiti. How are we to keep our faith in Jesus when things go so wrong? I posed this question to Dr. Samuel Thomas of Hopegivers. Dr. Thomas is no stranger to suffering, as his life of service to the orphan, widow, and unreached of India has lead to assassination attempts, jail, and sorrow upon sorrow. He first met her mother when Dr. Samuel himself was in jail. Puja's mother was brought in for murdering her husband who had been abusing her for years. The mother recognized Dr. Samuel as someone who often came to her village as a missionary. Knowing that she would be imprisoned for the rest of her life, the mother asked Dr. Samuel to have someone from Hopegivers to take her ten-year-old child into their orphanage. When Dr. Samuel was released from prison, he was finally able to meet Puja. She was grateful for being taken care of at the orphanage, with the ambition to become a policewoman so that she could ensure that her murdered father gets the justice he deserves. Years later, when Dr. Samuel encountered her again, Puja wanted to become a missionary. She said, her time at the orphanage had taught her to forgive her mother and that Jesus had died for her. She wanted to share that good news with others. She is now in charge of 118 boys at an orphanage. Puja now hopes that her mother can make bail and be released from prison so she can come help at the orphanage. That is the joy of knowing Christ. There is nothing that you've been through that Jesus can't redeem. Hopegivers International is a ministry started by M.A. Thomas more than 60 years ago in India. In this introductory episode, his son Dr. Samuel Thomas shares the story of how his dad planted his first churches, as well as how his mom, dad, and a small band of partners sacrificed everything to go to North India to share the gospel. You'll hear about M.A's arrest for preaching, how the first church started from believers he shared the gospel with in jail, and about the vision and impact of Hopegivers in the last 60 years.

Today on the show I'm talking with Samuel Thomas. Sam is a longtime friend of mine I met while we were both attending college in Phoenix. He's a music producer and audio engineer, and his artist name is 'self-taut'. If you like the music on this podcast, well that's my friend Sam and I always link to his work in the show notes. The reason I wanted to have Sam on the show is partly that he's my friend and I wanted to catch up with him, but the other reason is that Sam and I are both biracial. We've never really had a conversation about our lived experiences in that context, so I thought when better to discuss that than right now, while our national conversation is centered on matters of race, systemic racism, and political struggle. This is a long conversation and so I've decided to break up the show into two parts, and I'll be releasing them on the same day. Part 1 will be Sam and I speaking about childhood and part 2 will be about adulthood.
