They raise them on iPads. The kids don't shake hands. Hold eye contact. They don't have manners. Everything Amy and I do with our kids is intentional. We do a family huddle. Pray together. Give mom a break every week. Date night. Eat most dinners together. I take my kids to the ranch and teach them life skills. I have them work shovels and brooms and machinery. My kids have bank accounts. They understand the value of work. They're educated on how money works. My kids get jobs every summer. We don't give them allowance. Teach them finance. Hard work. Teach them how to get out of tough situations with hard work, dilligence, and discipline. We can't rely on the teachers to be the leaders for our kids. It's no secret that a lot of Americans and people had a tough year. In a short period of time, we had to endure a ton of financial pain. Back in 2021, interest rates on mortgages were at 3-4%. Cryto, NFTs, cars were selling for over asking. But within 10 months of time, housing prices went up because of interest rates; they doubled. The luxury watch industry was out of control. Rents went up. If I were a candle maker and my rent went up, I couldn't pass that to my customers. They'd stop buying candles. As a business owner, you have to eat that shit. If you had a rough year, I guarantee you that you learned what matters most to you. With the rising costs of everything, you probably asked why you fucking bought what you bought. At the end of 2022, my mentor told me to fire most of my staff and sell my shit. I didn't listen. But the experiences and lessons learned, priceless. And I found out what matters most to me: my family. They kept me sane through all of this. Everything else is not as important, except for my ranch and my tractors. Lean into what matters. Everything else, comes and goes. Family is forever. In 2017, I was having an event at my office. I had a guy come in that had done a billion in financial transactions. He was an amazing dude. Great speaker and he said something that really resonated with me. He said when he was starting his business, he had to dial down his salary, take a step back and make room so he could prepare for the future of what was coming. He's since sold his company. It's a great lesson. Life is like that. Many people become victims when they have to take steps back to grow their business and life. I've learned one thing in this business world....... A motherfucker's word ain't shit. I assumed because I'm a person of my word and integrity, that everyone else is. I used to believe people and take their word. When I worked in the streets, we didn't have contracts. Now days, I don't just let people talk to me. I have them write up everything they're going to do and send it to me. By doing this I can hold them accountable when they don't do shit for something I paid them for. My grandparents always told me to get everything in writing. Keep records. Refer to the documents when someone comes up short. It's one way to keep the dishonest ones out of your business. All of these episodes are helping us to further sharpen of minds and brains, and connect better with others, for improved productivity and success in our work and personal lives. For today's EP 373, we go back to EP 27[iv], recorded October 2019, with pioneer in neuroleadership, neuroscientist, Friederike Fabritius[v], from Germany. On this episode, we covered her book, The Leading Brain: Neuroscience Hacks to Work Smarter, Better and Happier. Friederike returned again to the podcast, for EP 258[vi] recorded in November 2022 advancing our conversation with her next book, The Brain Friendly Workplace. Both of these interviews covered important tips that I think we should all take into consideration to be happier, and therefore, more productive at work. Going along with our theme-that if we don't like what's going on outside of ourselves, let's dive deeper into understanding how our brain and minds work. Which brings us back to FRIEDERIKE FABRITIUS, MS, is a neuroscientist and pioneer in the field of neuroleadership. She trained at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research and is an alumna of McKinsey & Company (helping organizations to create change). Friederike delivers brain-based leadership programs to Fortune 500 executives and organizations around the globe to transform how they think, innovate, and navigate change. I'm always looking for productivity tips that we can all use, and it's clear that stress in our workplaces is at an all-time high, globally. We know that “2/3 of people report being stressed at work, to the point they can't sleep at night”[vii] and in our first clip, Friederike reports that “only 20% of people feel passionate about their jobs” and that “40% of people never experience FLOW in their jobs.” I think there has to be another way to find balance here. When we are having fun at work (not the after work party kind of fun) where you have fun after the work is done. I'm thinking of having fun related to the task at hand. And when we are having fun, our brains release a neurochemical called dopamine. Dopamine is a real brain booster. It makes you think faster. It helps you to do everything a bit speedier and better, and makes us more creative.”

I've taken a lot of courses on leadership. Read a lot of books on it. Been to tons of conferences. I do not believe I am a leader, but I've been designated as one from the people I serve. I don't know why some of these people follow me and turn to me for advice. I wasn't a leader in school. Wasn't a shot caller in the prisons or a gang leader. What I do is just do what's best for me. As a result, I see people coming to me to help them do the same for them. If i have problems, I have to figure them out. I'm not going to share them with others. I keep it to myself and figure shit out. If it is to be, it's up to me. I learned this from a guy at the car wash where I worked. He was from the Brian Tracy organization. That stuck with me. The leader doesn't get bailed out. They have to be good at figuring things out by themselves. In order to be a the best leader I can be, I have to be a really good follower. Once you master this, you'll have people following you, but it requires you to help them. Do this and you'll never have to beg people to follow you. One thing I can tell you is, you can't group everyone into one category just because one of them has made mistakes or became a bad example for their people. We can't lump people together in anything. Operating with absolutes. It cripples us as a whole. What I can tell you is, we do have a responsibility to call people out of every race, creed, color, etc. As the human race, we have to make clear the directions of what's acceptable and not acceptable in society. So, the next time you hear someone of a certain race, color or creed did something fucked up, just know there's a counter balance in existence. One person does not have the power or authority to represent one whole population or segment of people. Keep it light and do right, no matter the shades of good and bad. I once had an event in my old office. A man that ran a multi-billion dollar company in finance came to talk to some of my guests. He talked about having to take a step back in his company, so he sold some of his cars, watches, and real estate. He did this so he could have the capital necessary to build his company to a multi-billion dollar company. This man needed to take a couple of steps back and advanced the money he was living on into the most capable hands to help him advance his company where he needed to go. The same applies for everything you do in your life. Sometimes you have a take a step back to reasses where you're trying to go and sacrifice today's luxuries or comforts for the benefit of tomorrow. As a result of doing this, he was able to find killers in each area he was needing and was able to sell his company for a billion + valuation. That's how you manage a team and lead from the front, and sometimes it takes you going to the back of the line and feeding those first who are the most hungry and capable to make things happen that you can't.
