On this week’s episode of Speed Secrets Podcast, Brian Ghidinelli, founder of Motorsportsreg.com, joins me to talk about how to make a comeback in racing, focusing on the basics – vision, braking, steering, throttle – first, then racecraft and the track, the importance of focusing on one’s own performance and not the lap times or competition, and how competitive nature can interfere with having fun! Brian also shares his personal experience with preparing to compete in the SCCA Runoffs at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in October 2021, and how Hagerty purchasing MotorsportReg.com has impacted Brian’s life. We also get into how the pandemic has impacted the motorsports. Brian’s Speed Secret: You see in your own performance what you want to see or what you can see - you have to get someone else without your filters to help find the details. Check out Brian below! Hagerty.com MotorsportReg.com @ghidinelli When eight-year old Brian was told he would never curl his tongue because it was hereditary, he practiced in front of the mirror for days until he learned. He has stubbornly ignored conventional wisdom since. He is currently the Managing Director of Hagerty Motorsports since Hagerty acquired his company in 2019. Previously, Brian co-founded San Francisco design and technology firm VFIVE. Award-winning web work for Macromedia, Yahoo and Billabong led to an acquisition by global agency IconMedialab. He also once played the role of journalist, flying in a Soviet-era helicopter to cover the TransSyberia Rally from Moscow, Russia to Ulaanbataar, Mongolia for SPEEDTV.com. Brian lives near Sonoma Raceway in San Rafael, California with his wife, dog, racecar, motorcycle and shifter kart. He is a dual American-Italian citizen thanks to his Nonno. This episode is a great chat with MotoAmerica racer Kaleb De Keyrel who joins me to discuss his recent back to back wins in Twins Cup races 1 and 2 at the opening round of the MotoAmerica season that was held two weekends ago at Road America in Wisconsin. We talk about the race weekend and the activities leading up to his victories as well as how he got himself and his Yamaha FZ07 ready for racing this year, including with some help and coaching from this year’s World SBK rookie, and previous MotoAmerica racer, Garrett Gerloff. We also talk about the unusual circumstances of being at motorcycle races held under the restrictions required because of the current COVID-19 pandemic. And we talk about Kaleb’s prior racing experiences, his recovery from a serious crash at an AFM race event at Thunderhill Raceway Park in 2019, and also the YouTube channel and videos that he and his girlfriend produce together to help promote motorcycle road racing and MotoAmerica. Stay tuned as I will be doing as many of these podcast recordings as possible using Facebook Live on Wednesday nights at 8 pm ET and I will of course continue to make the audio portion available via this podcast. On this episode of the Autoweek Podcast, host Rory Carroll talks about his recent trip to the US Grand Prix at Austin, Texas. He and Jimmy Pelizzari go over the food, general experience and Rory’s discussions with Daniel Ricciardo and other members of the Red Bull Racing team. The gang also talks about the race, their expectations going into it and Kimi Räikkönen’s upset win over the dominant Lewis Hamilton. After the Formula 1 chitchat, Jimmy tells us about his trip to the Lake Superior Performance Rally, where his Subaru got a stage win. He also talks about his end-of-season results. Jimmy riffs briefly about the history of LSPR before guiding you through his trip behind the wheel of his Subaru rally machine. Following that, Jake Lingeman and Wesley Wren interview Deepak Kamath, Deepak Gupta and Avinash PS of the Dominar Polar Odyssey excursion. For those unaware, these three are riding motorcycles from, essentially, the North Pole to the South Pole. Wesley and Jake ask them about the start of their journey and what they expect to see during their adventure. Rounding out the episode, Rory left the keys to the studio on his desk during his trip to this year’s SEMA Show, and Wesley, Jake and Graham Kozak snuck in to talk about Graham’s Packard and Jake’s latest drive of the Hyundai Veloster N at Thunderhill Raceway Park.
