NASCAR drivers may get all the glory. But just like a grower depends on their hands in the field, a driver depends on the team around them. And without the eyes in the sky of the team spotter, a NASCAR team would be blind as they tried to coordinate their strategy on the track. So in this episode, we're back at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with Brett Griffin, NASCAR spotter for Kaulig racing, owner of Spot-On Activations, and host of the podcast, Door, Bumper, Clear. He also hosts “Leading the Field,” Nutrien Ag Solutions' new video series, and we're going to talk about what he's learned from touring growing operations across North America, where the business worlds of sustainable agriculture and NASCAR racing intersect, and how NASCAR spotters help foster the teamwork that it takes to win races.

Over the last six years at Kaulig Racing, Matt Kaulig and Chris Rice have built a winning Xfinity series program, bringing in veteran NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger to lead them to a series of big wins this year and positioning them to compete for a championship in Phoenix. Similarly, growers are building, growing and planning sustainability in their farming operations year over year as well, prioritizing long-term success. Nutrien Ag Solutions is proud to be a sponsor of Allmendinger's #16 Chevy Camaro, because he exemplifies the hard work and determination that it takes to find success in the field. So in this episode, Tom and Sally visit with AJ in the infield at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, a few hours before his thrilling comeback win in the Bank of America ROVAL 400. He tells us what it means to represent agriculture on the track, how cooperation and hard work power success in both the worlds of racing and farming, and how he's positioning himself to bring home a championship this year in Phoenix.

On the newest episode of All Gas No Brakes our host Scott Barglof previews the Duel in the Desert with announcer Chad Meyer.Chad resides in Whittemore, Iowa, where he announces regularly at Kossuth County Speedway and Hancock County Speedway as well as announcing special events for tracks and broadcast companies. One event Chad never misses is the Duel in the Desert, which holds a special place in his heart. While the XR Super Late Models haven't been a regular class at the Duel in the past, Chad states that the best drivers in the country have shown up to take on the big half-mile. Adding such talent to an event that was already considered a crown jewel truly makes the Duel in the Desert a national event. With a laugh, Chad says he is really excited, but also doesn't know what to expect for the $25,000-to-win, 100 lap XR Super Series Karl Kustoms Stock Car feature. Chad recalls the exciting feature in 2021 between Zane DeVilbiss, Dallon Murty, Damon Murty and Jesse Sobbing, and the wild and exciting show they put on. There will be no surprise if the XRSS Karl Kustom Stock Cars steal the show.Historically a Modified gem, the Duel in the Desert will continue to host a number of big hitters in the XR Modified division who have found success at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, as well as some who are still looking to hit the jackpot. At the top of Chad's mind to watch are Dominic Ursetta, the Yaegers, Jeff Taylor, Sir Lawrence O'Connor, and “The Weekend Warrior” Ricky Alvarado. Chad was last heard on XR+ from the Colossal 100 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway alongside Jason Frommelt, who will be the other half of the announcing duo at The Duel. This dynamic duo provides intelligent race announcing with witty banter. Mike Nuchols will also join the team, providing technical explanations and filming trackside action to use on the live broadcast. To hear Episode 13 of All Gas No Brakes, listen here or Subscribe on your favorite podcast player.Event Info: https://racexr.com/e/duel-in-the-desert/Watch Live: www.racexr.plusGet Tickets: www.racexr.shop

Danica Patrick Pretty Intense Podcast

Denny Hamlin enters his 17th full season driving the #11 FedEx Toyota in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2022 with Joe Gibbs Racing and fourth-year crew chief Chris Gabehart. Hamlin has won 46 races in 578 career starts at stock-car racing's highest level since bursting onto the scene with two victories and “Rookie of the Year” honors in 2006. The 41-year-old Chesterfield, Va., native has scored 198 top-five and 305 top-10 finishes and contended in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs in 15 of 16 years behind the wheel of the #11 car. The FedEx Racing driver enjoyed a record-setting year in 2021, earning a career-high 25 top-10 finishes and leading a career-best 1,502 laps. He also tied his career high for top-five finishes with 19. Hamlin completed all but four of the season's 9,200 laps on the way to his first full season with no DNFs (Did Not Finish). He notched two wins on the way to making his third straight trip to the Championship 4 race, where he finished third in the standings. Hamlin kicked off the 2020 season with a Daytona 500 win, becoming only the fifth driver in NASCAR history to claim three victories in the “Great American Race.” He went on to score a total of seven wins on the season, advancing to the Championship 4 for the second consecutive year. He finished the year ranked fourth in the standings, compiling 18 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. And, in an unusual season featuring a 10-week shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hamlin also excelled in an iRacing season from his at-home racing simulator, scoring two televised wins against his Cup Series competitors at virtual racetracks. 2019 was a statement season for Hamlin and rookie crew chief Gabehart. After registering no wins in 2018, the veteran driver rebounded in forceful fashion to score six wins on the year, including his second Daytona 500 victory. Hamlin's successful 2019 season also included 19 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes – both career season-highs – and three Busch Pole Awards. He capped off the year with a Championship 4 berth in the season-finale race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he drove to a fourth-place finish in the point standings. Hamlin boasts an impressive 33 career poles, the second-highest record among active Cup Series drivers. Hamlin collected 10 top-five and 17 top-10 finishes during the 2018 season that earned him an 11th-place finish in the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series standings. He added four Coors Light Pole Awards to his résumé, including a first-place starting spot for the Series' finale race at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the second-consecutive year. Hamlin jumpstarted his 2017 campaign by collecting his third career Duel victory (2008, 2014) during Daytona “Speedweeks,” eventually scoring two more regular season wins after dominating performances at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway. He also added two Coors Light Pole Awards to his season accomplishments – one at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Playoffs and one during the season-finale race weekend at Homestead-Miami. Overall, Hamlin tied career-bests with 15 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes en route to finishing sixth in the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series standings. His 2016 season began triumphantly when he claimed the prestigious Daytona 500 win – his first-ever Daytona victory – in a historic finish, edging out Martin Truex Jr. by .01 seconds. Hamlin went on to score two more wins.

Door Bumper Clear returns from Las Vegas Motor Speedway to recap the first race of the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. Brett Griffin, T.J. Majors and Freddie Kraft discuss their casino experiences, running into Kyle Larson, and the biggest jackpot Brett has ever won. First in Spot On, Spot Off, the crew breaks down Bubba Wallace wrecking and fighting Kyle Larson after Larson ran Wallace up the track and into the wall off Turn 4. The guys explain why the start was just a racing incident and discuss why Wallace's actions were unacceptable. Plus, Wallace's spotter Freddie shares his point of view from the accident. Next, Ross Chastain and Chase Briscoe weren't able to hold on to the win and clinch their spot in the Championship 4 as Joey Logano passed them late. The spotters applaud Briscoe for his recovery after a rough first half of the race and react to Chastain losing the win late and what his moves say about his mindset in the playoffs. Kurt Busch announced his retirement and that Tyler Reddick will replace him in the No. 45 car next year. They discuss how Busch's concussion was bigger than anybody expected and how big of an asset he has been for 23XI Racing this year. NASCAR penalized Cole Custer for race manipulation at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The table explains why they should have taken action for Chase Elliott at Bristol last year if using the same logic and predict there will be more manipulation at this upcoming Martinsville playoff cutoff race. Finally, Dodge has reportedly pulled out of talks to rejoin NASCAR. The guys reveal what team they were potentially looking to join and why NASCAR lowering the horsepower is not attracting more manufacturers. In Reaction Theatre, fans call in about Hailie Deegan's Xfinity Series debut, Bubba Wallace wrecking Kyle Larson, and a rap about Sunday's race. Later, hear which spotters may be on the move this off-season, major controversy in DBC picks, and expectations for Homestead-Miami Speedway in the new car. This week's Wind Tunnel takes you inside one of Honda's flagship teams, behind the scenes in a pursuit of one of racing's most unique trophies and analysis of a team's attempt to manipulate a race's outcome. When the Bank of America Roval 400 went to overtime, it set up n exciting finish that catapulted Christopher Bell into the Round of 8. It also set up a desperation laden final 2 laps for SHR's Chase Briscoe who needed to gain several spots to knock Kyle Larsen out of his transfer spot. As Briscoe carved through the field on new tires, his teammate, Cole Custer slowed on the backstretch which resulted in several of the spots Chase was pursuing to slow as well. A post race analysis of Custer's actions resulted in $200,000 in fines as well as hefty points penalty. In a rare departure for normal Wind Tunnel episodes, Jack breaks down the situation and offers his opinion on the optics as well as the actions.Meyer Shank Racing finished off their 2022 IMAS Campaign the same way that they started it….by Winning! Sellers and Layne Riggs took the Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series National Championship right down to the final races at Dominion Speedway and only after a post season audit did Sellers discover that he had lost the title that he left Dominion thinking that he had won.But Sellers found a silver lining to that cloud when he took the top honors after 15 years of trying  at MARTINSVILLE Speedway's Valley Star 300 adding a Grandfather clock to his Trophy Case.  Sellers takes this week's Advance Auto Parts Victory lap and we talk about the roller coaster ride of emotions those 7 days created. All that as well as a recap of the NASCAR Playoffs stop at Charlotte Motor Speedway's Roval on this week's Wind Tunnel.

Current events are on the docket as Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis unpack the turbulent happenings of NASCAR's weekend in Texas on this week's episode of The Dale Jr. Download. Not only that, but they've brought in a guest who was very much a part of the turbulence, recent Bristol night race winner Chris Buescher. Dale and Chris have had some friendly banter over the past few weeks after Dale mistakenly referred to Chris as “Christopher” during a race broadcast. As the misstep reoccurred, Dale began to embrace the name change-up in an effort to catch his fellow commentators in the same spur-of-the-moment confusion. Chris caught wind of the joke via social media and took it in stride, even going as far as to change his profile name on Twitter and the driver name decal on his Roush Fenway Keselowski No. 17 car.  Dale explains that he first grew to admire Chris when he bested then JR Motorsports driver Chase Elliott in the 2015 Xfinity Series season points standings. They discuss Chris leaving his hometown of Prosper, Texas at the age of 15 to move to North Carolina to pursue a career in motorsports. Chris credits his upbringing from his parents and knowing he was there to work and race. A huge part of Buescher's journey was a friendship he forged with Ken and David Ragan, which stemmed from a black flag incident during the Summer Shootout Legends car event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Chris recalls getting in trouble for rough driving during the race and being sent to Ken's office, who was managing 600 Racing at the time. After the Shootout, Ken explained to Chris' family that if they were serious about racing, they needed to move out east. When they established that they were not in the place to do that at the time, Ken offered the spare bedroom in his house to Chris.  Chris talks about getting involved in the Roush Racing development program thanks to help from the Ragans. His first step up the ladder was the ARCA Series, where he raced out of Midlothian, Illinois with the Roulo Brothers Racing outfit. He also discusses adapting to a stock car after transitioning out of Legends cars, and how he knocked the nose off his car on a start in one of his first races at Salem Speedway.  The story of Chris making his Xfinity Series debut is a wild one, as he was tabbed last minute to fill in for Trevor Bayne in 2011, who went on medical leave. After forgetting to plug his phone in overnight, he was awakened by Gary Roulo who informed him “get your stuff, we're going to the airport”. In the car, Gary explained the situation, and soon Chris was at Richmond Raceway getting fitted to hop into the No. 16 car with no practice laps or simulator time.  The interview also discusses Chris' time with Front Row Motorsports after winning the 2015 Xfinity Championship and his rain-shortened Cup victory at Pocono in 2016. Dale asks about the culture change at RFK since the arrival of Brad Keselowski. They also discuss the NextGen car's tire issues and what changes can be made to Texas Motor Speedway to help better the racing there.  With only a few races left in the 2022 Cup schedule, Chris is optimistic about where the RFK Racing organization is heading, and he's looking forward to capitalizing on the momentum they've built in the past few weeks.  DIRTY AIR Before Chris joins the show, Dale, Mike, Alex and Hannah discuss: NASCAR's eventful stop in Texas  Denny and William Byron have a dust-up The NextGen tire problems continue in a big way What to do about Texas Motor Speedway?    ASKJR presented by Xfinity This week the fans asked questions about: Dale's reaction to Jimmie Johnson retiring from full-time competition in 2023 Which underfunded driver would he like to give a shot in a JRM ride Smaller steering wheels vs. bigger Where Noah Gragson's Waffle House tradition stems from To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. This week in the third and final installment of our conversation with David Ifft, he tells us HIS side of the story of a long-ago riot before, during and after a Waylon Jennings concert at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Then, it's on to his infamous stint in a Mexican jail while en route to the 1980 season finale at Ontario … a race he would win with Benny Parsons behind the wheel. After that, David remembers parting ways with … first … Benny … and then team owner M.C. Anderson and driver Cale Yarborough.Hosts Rick Houston and Steve Waid then tie into the July 9, 1981 issue of Grand National Scene. Cale Yarborough used a slingshot move on the last lap to get by Harry Gant for the win at Daytona. Cale got the victory and Harry wound up with ANOTHER second-place finish.Ricky Rudd escaped what could very well have been a devastating crash that also involved Dale Earnhardt, who was making his first start for car owner J.D. Stacy.Jake Elder makes good on a promise to stay put with Terry Labonte … for a while … and James Hylton gets a dream sponsorship from STP for an upcoming race at Talladega. Finally … an earlier column on women in the pits and garage gets things stirred up in this week's letters to the editor section.NOTE: This show is not associated in any way with American City Business Journals, owner of the Scene brand. Please consider supporting this show via: www.patreon.com/thescenevaultpodcastwww.paypal.me/thescenevaultpodcastwww.venmo.com/thescenevaultpodcast

Just three Bad Dads this week and since that's three for the price of none, only you can judge whether that represents value for money. With all of us having equine obsessed daughters it seems suprising that it has taken us this long to discuss the Top 5 Horses, especially as reviewing our back catalog demonstrates that we've held a stable interest in them. We've reviewed a couple of Steven Soderbergh movies on the pod already – MAGIC MIKE, BEHIND THE CANDELABRA - but after the latter's release in 2013, Soderbergh decided to retire from filmmaking, citing the "absolutely horrible" mistreatment of directors by Hollywood producers, before returning with 2017's LOGAN LUCKY. And I say he retired but it wasn't exactly 4 years of sitting around and twiddling his thumbs. In that time, he composed an edit of HER for Spike Jonze (which he didn't use but said helped him finish the movie), posted edits of classic movies such as 2001 and PSYCHO on his website, edited the Magic Mike sequel MAGIC MIKE XXL and then produced and directed two ten episode seasons of Cinemax medical drama THE KNICK. Anyway, after he'd stopped all that mucking about, Soderbergh directed and edited this heist comedy based on a screenplay by his wife Julie Asner, in which Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) loses his job as a bobcat operator beneath Charlotte Motor Speedway due to being deemed an insurance liability and so plans a perfect crime in retribution. Together with his brother Clyde (Adam Driver), a former veteran with a missing hand, and his sister Mellie (Riley Keough) the boys set out to break the Logan family curse and rob the venue on its biggest weekend of the year, the NASCAR race on Memorial Day weekend. Well-made, fun and with a good bit of the old cultural critiquing go on around America's treatment of disability and the ugliness of the insurance industry whilst giving a platform to show a little warmth to the less featured red states, we're glad he decided to get off his lazy arse and start working again. From the people that brought you OCTONAUTS comes this not quite as charming redo of the same general principal, with a more cynical eye on penetrating the US market and toy tie-ins. We look at THE CREATURE CASES (Netflix), which came highly recommended by my youngest and sees Sam Snow, a snow leopard, and Kit Casey, a fox, working as agents for CLADE, the Covert League of Animal Detective Experts. It's monsoon season and the animals are escaping the perilous jungle floor to get to higher ground using the bullet train style Monsoon Express. But when the chief engineer is bitten by one of the venomous snakes aboard, it becomes a race against time to locate the perpetrator, extract their fang juice and synthesise an antivenom before the train crashes, killing them all. SPOILER ALERT, they do in fact all die.We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it.
