In this episode of “The Logbook” - John Yasenko recounts the discovery and historical significance of a unique 1935 front-wheel-drive speedster created by Benjamin F. Harris III. Initially found in a neglected state in 1987, the vehicle's unusual design and Harris's innovative contributions to automotive history intrigued John and his Brother, leading to an extensive pre-internet research endeavor. Ben Harris, an early industrial designer and motorsport architect, was deeply involved in the development of American road racing and SCCA's national organization. He collaborated with notable figures like Harley Earl and Jim Kimberly, and played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Road America race track. John presents us with rich with historical insights, personal anecdotes, and acknowledges the extensive research and supportive collaborations that uncovered Harris's legacy, culminating in his posthumous induction into the SCCA Walk of Fame in 2020. John Yasenko's purchase of the remains of the 1935 Harris FWD Speedster decades ago led him into conducting 36 years of research into the car and its creator, Benjamin F. Harris. John's objective has been to document how Harris was a key figure in postwar racetrack design and development, and in transforming the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) into a national organization. John is a lifelong car enthusiast, business owner, restorer and historian, automotive show host, and all-around jack of all trades. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Discovery of the Harris Speedster 01:15 Ben Harris: The Man Behind the Machine 02:54 Innovative Design Elements of the Harris Speedster 03:33 Harris's Collaborations and Achievements 05:27 Racing Legacy and Contributions to Motorsport 09:36 Involvement in SCCA and Road America 17:29 Advocacy for Safety in Motorsport 24:29 Legacy and Induction into the Walk of Fame 29:15 Conclusion and Acknowledgements ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net More Information: https://www.motoringpodcast.net/ Become a VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/gtmotorsports Online Magazine: https://www.gtmotorsports.org/ This episode is part of our HISTORY OF MOTORSPORTS SERIES and is sponsored in part by: The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC), The Society of Automotive Historians (SAH), The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Argetsinger Family - and was recorded in front of a live studio audience.

Welcome to our motorsports podcast where we discuss F1, IndyCar, IMSA, NASCAR, our own racing adventures, and some other adventures! Will Byron wins on fuel strategy at Iowa in NASCAR. Next week, NASCAR Goes Bowling at the Glen!Max Verstappen looked like a hungry-hungry hippo the way he was passing just about everyone in the mid-field but it was Nico Hulkenberg and Kimi Antonelli who were the hungriest of hippos that moved up 5 places each by the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Taking the top step of the podium was Lando Norris with Oscar Piastri close behind. One of the McLaren drivers are just about certain to take the WDC for this year but it will be a battle that will likely come down to the final races to decide a champion. This year seems to mirror that of about 10 years ago when it was Lewis and Nico at Mercedes.A good weekend of sportscar racing took place at Road America. BMW got their first win in GTP and it was also a 1-2 finish for the team. BMW also took the win in GTD Pro!Coming up this weekend: NASCAR at Watkins Glen, Indycar at Portland, Super Formula at SUGO, & Supercars at Ipswich

Welcome to our motorsports podcast where we discuss F1, IndyCar, IMSA, NASCAR, our own racing adventures, and some other adventures! After a minor summer break of our own, Nate and Christian are back and do their best to recap all the action that has happened this past month.NASCAR was at Sonoma, Dover, and Indy these past three weeks. SVG solidifies his playoff presence with his 3rd win of the season at Sonoma. Nate gives us his on the ground report from Dover where Denny Hamlin took the win there. Last but not least, we touch on the Brickyard 400 where William Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. comes out on top!IMSA is going to Road America this weekend but we recap their previous race at Mosport which had plenty of action! AO Racing claims their first LMP2 win and DragonSpeed take the win in GTDPro.Staying in the sportscar world, we also recap WEC's 6h of Interlagos. A race that went green for just about the entire way with only a couple VSCs or code 60s which was great to watch a race play out in its entirety that led to not only Cadillac's first win in Hypercar but their first 1-2 as well! Lexus takes their first LMGT3 win too!IndyCar had 4 races in the past 3 weeks where two drivers split the wins - Pato and Palou. Impressive drives by Kyffin Simpson, Christian Lungaard, Rinus Veekay, and David Malukas over the course of these past few rounds as well. After all the racing that did happen, it's looking more and more likely that Palou will indefinitely take his 4th IndyCar championship. He could even clinch the title after this next race at Portland.Formula 1 went to Spa this past weekend where once again we had rain. This time was not as severe as 2021 and we were able to go racing after a delay but the response after the race was one that drivers thought they could've gone racing a bit sooner. In the end, they played it safe and McLaren was able to secure a 1-2 with Piastri ahead of Norris. F1 heads to Hungary this weekend before they take their traditional summer break.Coming up this weekend: NASCAR at Iowa, IMSA is at Road America, and F1 is at Hungary.

After an insane Road America IndyCar race, 2012 series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay joins from the ground in Wisconsin, but is also here to tell us about his incredible Indy 500 bid which really could and should have ended with victory.Hunter-Reay and host Jack Benyon look at Palou returning to form and how likely it is anyone can stop him after winning six races halfway through the season.Key storylines from Road America are also delved into before Hunter-Reay tells the story of how a pitstop practice car - drafted in after his primary car caught fire in practice - nearly won the 500.It's the kind of incredible story which makes the Indy 500 one of the best races in the world, and we hope you enjoy it.Want ad-free listening? The IndyCar Series took on legendary Road America this past weekend, and our resident open wheeler Conor Daly was once again in action. He joins co-host Chase Holden this week on Speed Street to discuss his struggles throughout the weekend and how a penalty sunk his efforts at a decent finish. Conor explains that the new hybrid continues to be difficult for his team, as the added weight has caused everyone in the paddock to go back to the drawing board for setups and balance. Ultimately, a design difficulty in the aero screen caused Conor to misread an IndyCar official's hand gestures, which led to him receiving a stop-and-go penalty, effectively taking him out of contention.Road America pole sitter Louis Foster joins the race to celebrate his first ever series P1 start and how he and his team were shocked to have found so much speed throughout the qualifying session. He and Conor share thoughts on the search for consistency throughout a season, and how it can be frustrating competing against the better funded teams who seem to have things together week in week out. Louis speaks on the viral clip of his mustache shaving from the past weekend and how out of the car storylines are good for IndyCar fans to get to know the drivers better. The guys also touch on Louis' major crash in St. Louis, changing team culture and the upcoming test at Iowa.
Tonight, on Trackside with Curt Cavin and Kevin Lee, they recap Alex Palou winning yet again this past weekend from Road America on a fuel mileage. In the second segment of the show, they answer fan questions on X and talk more free agency news. They also talk about Devlin DeFrancesco’s gift to the FOX camera man. Then to wrap up another edition of the show, Kevin recaps the latest Indy NXT testing from Milwaukee and answers more fan questions on X.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Palou rang in a novel sponsorship in the best way possible at Road America.
