I recently opened up boxes of three different 2023-24 Upper Deck Hockey products and in this episode I share some thoughts on what I found. I opened a 2023-24 Star Rookies box set, a 2023-24 AHL hobby box, and a 2023-24 Upper Deck Allure hobby box. Thanks to Upper Deck for providing the boxes for me to review! Box battle with four current hockey card products from Upper Deck. He evaluates the boxes based on contents from 2023-24 Trilogy, 2023-24 Black Diamond, 2022-23 Ultimate Collection, and 2023-24 SP Game Used. Initially ranking Trilogy the highest, the results surprise him after opening the packs. The SP Game Used box, featuring standout cards like a Jason Robertson dual patch, takes first place. Ultimate Collection comes in second due to its impressive autographs, while Trilogy and Black Diamond follow. The video explores the nuances of card collecting, the importance of meaningful combos, and the challenges of redemption timelines and packaging. 01:36 Unboxing Insights: The Intricacies of Packaging 06:49 Ranking the Boxes Pre-Opening: Expectations vs. Reality 07:43 Revealing the Results: Surprises and Disappointments
I discuss three different Upper Deck Hockey Products from the 2022 and 2023 seasons. I opened 2022-23 Upper Deck Synergy, 2022-23 Parkhurst Champions, and 2023-24 O-Pee-Chee. Go GTS Live, May 2, 2024: Cheers Trading Cards
Four unique hockey card products from Upper Deck, beginning with 2022-23 Parkhurst Champions, praised for its blend of veterans, legends, and rookies, despite its lack of premium feel. Then 2022/23 Upper Deck Clear Cut is scrutinized for its confusing release year and the unusual gamble of obtaining a card from either of two different years in a single pack. 2022-23 O-Pee-Chee Platinum, shiny appearance and systematic insertion of cards, which offers a sense of predictability and organization that appeals to Dr. Beckett. Finally, 2023-24 Upper Deck Hockey Series 2, highlighting the excitement of pulling a Conor Bedard YG rookie card, making this box a significant win. Throughout the review, Dr. Beckett intersperses his personal memories, expert insights into card collecting dynamics, pricing strategies, and market pressures. 00:52 2022-23 Parkhurst Champions 01:50 2022-23 Upper Deck Clear Cut 05:35 2022-23 O-Pee-Chee Platinum 08:31 2023-24 Upper Deck Hockey Series 2 10:32 Reflections and Insights on Card Collecting

There four releases come in at a variety of price points, but as you'll hear, buying singles might be the way to go for some of these. This is an audio review of Upper Deck's Series Two hockey product, featuring Young Guns and much more - I got lots of Dallas Stars (that's good) but too many Las Vegas Knights (that's bad for a Stars fan).
I did a fantasy tournament of four different Upper Deck hockey boxes evaluating each by non-standard criteria as befits an audio podcast - thanks Upper Deck!
Broke a box of this year's hockey - thanks Upper Deck - as always my audio set reviews are a reflective combination of my past, present, and future thoughts.
I surprised myself by actually preferring the box with fewer cards even though I loved the design of SP Authentic - I am becoming exclusively a player collector with a large number of players that I follow (in all sports).
Today I discuss the boxes of 2020-21 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection and 2020-21 Upper Deck Stature I had a chance to open. I share what I like, the challenges of opening high end products, and my suggestion on the best way to go after these cards! I did a write up on Upper Deck Stature and you can read it here. It's a hockey-centric show for Episode 16 of the Cardfellas Show Podcast. We're talking 2005-2006 Upper Deck hockey. It's a set with two all-time great NHL players' rookie cards... but they're not easy pulls! If you're looking to pull Alex Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby Young Guns rookies, you'll need deep pockets! We're also discussing our picks to win the Stanley Cup playoffs and debate whether hockey cards present a pure collecting opportunity not found in more popular sports card genres.
I compare Upper Deck Hockey Series One with O-Pee-Chee - both fine hockey products - I preferred O-Pee-Chee based on my collecting approach but UD Series One was probably better due to the Young Guns phenomenon. Thanks Upper Deck!
What a power-packed full episode this is with first time co-host Greg Lanctot! Greg and I ended up talking for an hour about which cards to buy in Soccer, Hockey and F1. Not only that, but we also hit on subjects like Dusan Vlahovic, Trevor Lawrence, Darius Garland, which rookies to chase in 2021-22 Upper Deck Hockey, which F1 Drivers are missing from our Sports Card Investment Report Top 100 and Sports Card Investing theories related to Soccer Cards for Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and whether or not you can make money over time buying and flipping the same player - like Lamar Jackson. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/sportscardstrategy/support
EPISODE 26 - Clark, Hyung, and John kick off this show with what they're doing with modern base cards as the prices continue to tumble. Is it time to panic and liquidate or buy more at the dip? Then the guys get into the meat of today's episode by dissecting Josh Luber's (StockX Founder and now Chief Vision Officer of Fanatics Trading Cards) insightful White Paper/Essay on the state of the hobby. They discuss whether they agree or disagree on some of his key points including his reason for the hobby boom and subsequent major correction earlier this year. And they talk about whether they share in Luber's optimism of the hobby's future. Plus they react to some of his surprising statements in a recent interview such as his initial thoughts of Fanatics Trading Cards not likely to produce their own branded trading cards or set up their own grading company. This episode ends as usual with the "Pick One segment - the Hot Takes edition" with each of the guys offering two hobby hot takes and then debating on which they believe in more. The Pick One pairs in this episode are: PSA 10 is underrated vs. BGS 10 is overrated; Wander Franco will be the 2022 AL MVP vs. Luis Robert will be the 2022 AL MVP; and the Panini Select set will be irrelevant by 2026 vs. Upper Deck Hockey will be irrelevant by 2026. Are Upper Deck hockey cards ready for the bright lights? With the #NHL and #ESPN coming to an exclusive multi-year deal, hockey games are going to be broadcast everywhere. I personally cannot help but think this will be good for the hockey card market and their prices. While I do not expect the gains seen in other sports card markets, I do believe we could see some very nice gains this year and beyond. Four interesting products - which would you chose if you had $100 to spend? Alexis LaFreniere, Star Rookies, UD Extended, or Trilogy? I am a law-abiding rule-breaker.
Billy Celio hypothetically breaks down some Upper Deck hockey products including his favorites along with some inside info.
Today I discuss a unique set building project I went after. I built a complete Upper Deck Hockey relic set completely through purchases on COMC! I wrote a guest blog on COMC which covered the same topic, and you can find that post here! The set I built was the 2019-20 Upper Deck Series 2 Rookie Materials set. It contained 40 cards and since it has several scarcity tiers, it proved to be a bit of a challenge to complete. I had to have some patience and do a bit of hunting to get it done!
