The new, large NHL contracts makes you appreciate Sidney Crosby only signing for $8.7 million. Lou in Staten Island, a Canadians fan, doesn't want to see Montreal give up pieces if they traded for Crosby. If Aaron Rodgers continues to play well and wants to come back, we all would consider it.

Back with me this week is a true class act and a member of our Thursday Night Tailgate Guest Hall of Fame—Sirius/XM NFL Radio and NHL Radio host, Zig Fracassi. Zig's reputation as one of the finest interviewers in the business is well earned, and I've long said it's a mystery how he doesn't already have millions of followers on social media. His insights into both football and hockey are second to none, and his character is even better. In this segment, Zig and I dive into the state of the Pittsburgh Penguins, where Sidney Crosby continues to shine but Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang are showing their age. We discuss whether it's finally time to break up the Penguins' big three and the impact of Erik Karlsson's contract. From there, we turn to Buffalo and the rise of Tage Thompson, before looking ahead to the Winter Olympics—can the U.S. finally get past Canada, and who else could contend for gold? Then we shift gears to the NFL, where Aaron Rodgers made headlines by signing with the Steelers and silenced some doubters with his Week 1 performance against his former team. Zig also weighs in on the Dallas Cowboys and shocks me to announcing they are no longer his favorite team. We unpack Jerry Jones' surprising decision to move on from Micah Parsons, one of the best defensive players in the game. If you're not already following Zig on X @zigsportsvoice, do it because you're missing out on great insights and a very special human being.

The boys are back for a fifth season! Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne and Sam McKee catch up before kicking off the new year with the biggest storyline heading into the season: Connor McDavid's uncertain future with the Edmonton Oilers. They discuss what the superstar needs to see to stay, whether the goaltenders in Edmonton play a role in his decision, and whether the Oilers will consider a trade at any point this season. Then, they get into Kirill Kaprizov turning down an NHL-record contract, Anže Kopitar's final season, the chances McDavid is thinking Toronto in 26-27, and why a Sidney Crosby trade makes sense for both Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Ailish Forfar and Justin Cuthbert kick things off, discussing the Jays' clinching the playoffs and their path to clinching the AL East. Then, Frank Seravalli joins the show (10:07) to discuss a rather quiet NHL offseason, what the future has in store for the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid, the chances of Sidney Crosby getting traded, if Kirill Kaprizov is worth the rumoured price, and much more. Then, Buck Martinez joins the show (30:10) to discuss the Jays' expectations for the postseason, the atmosphere this season in the Rogers Centre, the passion of the Jays fanbase, and much more. Then, Ailish and Justin discuss the major CFL rule changes and what to expect going forward. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise takes stock of the AFC North after two weeks of action in the 2025 NFL season. How does the picture change now that the Bengals have lost QB Joe Burrow for at least a couple of months? Are the Ravens now a runaway favorite? Or did the loss by Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and Co. versus Buffalo in NFL Week 1 show that Baltimore is still a flawed team? Can coach Kevin Stefanski turn the Browns around? Or is he in over his head with Joe Flacco and rookies Dillion Gabriel and Shedeuer Sanders as his option at QB? And where do Mike Tomlin, Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers fit into the conversation? Paul tackles those questions, plus offers reaction to Penguins GM Kyle Dubas speaking about Sidney Crosby's future in Pittsburgh. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Max said he gets asked more about the two goals in Game 7 to win the Stanley Cup Final than the shhhh move against the Flyers. Max said you can't read much into the Sidney Crosby rumors to another team. Max said maybe the team won't play that well, but there's still a chance to watch Crosby, Malkin, and Letang should be a driving force for people to go to the rink.
Hour 2 with Bob Pompeani, Joe Starkey, Tyler Kennedy, and Max Talbot: Max said he gets asked more about the two goals in Game 7 to win the Stanley Cup Final than the shhhh move against the Flyers. Max Talbot explains how he and Tyler Kennedy got to the Penguins at the right moment. Max was asked before Game 7 who he thought could make a big impact, and Max said he would like to believe it's him!
Is Aaron Rodgers already having buyer's remorse about choosing the Steelers? With injuries at QB in both Minnesota and Cincinnati, Rodgers could be stuck with a bad offense. Poni thinks the Week 2 performance and loss, filled with multiple gaffes, could already create some cracks in the armor. Can Mike Tomlin save this thing? HOCKEY TALK! Kyle Dubas responded to the rumors of Sidney Crosby – or his agent – tossing out the idea of a future trade. Dubas said if he placates Crosby right here and now, that doesn't help his team in the future. The guys think Dubas has already tried things ‘Sid's way' and they didn't work, so now they are facing a rebuild. PG columnist Jason Mackey joined the show. Jason feels more confident than ever that the Ben Cherington era will be over in Pittsburgh as the Pirates skid to the finish. What does the future look like for this team? Jason still thinks Paul Skenes wants to win here. Jason doesn't expect the payroll to go much higher in 2026 – maybe around $90M.
A former Steeler texted Joe that Jack Sawyer should start, Nick Herbig rotate in, and Cole Holcomb play instead of Payton Wilson. This former Steeler also thinks Yahya Black should start over Keeanu Benton. Kaleb Johnson is being taken off the kick return team. Sidney Crosby said he loves Pittsburgh and wants to be here.

Hosts Alex Kirshner, Ben Lindbergh, and Lindsay Gibbs discuss the beginning of the NFL season, and the Kansas City Chiefs' 0-2 record; their worst start since 2014 when they last missed the playoffs. Has their aging lineup started to catch up to them? Plus, the return of tush-push discourse. Next, the 38-year-old Sidney Crosby has played a whopping 20 seasons for the Penguins and is arguably the best player of his generation. But as the Penguins continue to flail, Crosby's management is signaling he may not be long for the team. What do teams owe to their oldest, most storied players, and is it the end of the one-team legend? Then, Angel Reese publicly criticized her Chicago Sky teammates in the Chicago Sun Times, calling out weak recruiting and their reliance on injured players. Reese and the team have reconciled, but for how long? We also catch up on the WNBA playoffs: The Lynx may feel inevitable, but Lindsay argues there may be some meaningful challengers as the playoffs roll on. In afterballs, the Tyreek Hill's domestic violence allegations are barely registering in conversations about his rumored trade to the Kansas City Chiefs. Lindsay looks back at the details of the claims against him, and why they're important to remember. On the bonus episode available exclusively for Slate Plus members, the panel discusses Phillies Karen, the ball hawker who went viral after demanding the return of a ball from a child. After several false accusations and an ongoing campaign to unmask the ball-taker, have we taken bad ball park etiquette too far? .
