In the third of the NHL Wraparound Celebrity Series, Neil and Vic welcome three-time Super Bowl champion placekicker with the New England Patriots Stephen Gostkowski to the show. The four-time Pro Bowler and Patriots all-time scoring leader covers a range of topics from his early days or an athlete, to playing under Bill Belichick and with Tom Brady to life after football.Gostkowski even mixes in a little hockey as a young fan of the Buffalo Sabres and, more recently, the Boston Bruins.IN THIS EPISODE:[01:49] - Neil welcomes Stephen Gostkowski to the show. Gostkowski shares how he got into placekicking as well as the uniqueness of the position where the participation in a game is brief but, often, very noticeable. Simply, the life of a kicker.[06:47] - Given the apparent isolation for a kicker, Stephen shares who he bonded with during the course of his career.[10:20] - The expectations succeeding Adam Vinatieri, a kicker who had carved his niche in NFL lore with four Super Bowl wins (three with New England) including some of the great clutch kicks in league history.[13:16] - The relationship with head coach Bill Belichick.[15:33] - Gostkowski's interesting take on why there's likely no coaching comparable in hockey, baseball or basketball to Belichick.[17:29] - How 'bout Tom Brady?[20:33] - Born in Louisiana and spending some early years in Buffalo, Gostkowski laced skates up at an early age and even suffered a casualty quite common to NHL players. However, any thoughts of playing hockey were erased by a move to Mississippi and played a significant role in Stephen eventually playing football.[22:43] - A fan of the Sabres growing up, Stephen still recalls the heartbreak of the 1999 "Toe in the Crease" controversy which delivered the Stanley Cup to Dallas. Since coming to the New England area almost two decades ago, his team allegiance has shifted as he's gotten to know some of the Bruins players.[24:51] - Remaining a fan of the team Stephen made his mark with. [26:18] - Thoughtful dialogue about transitioning from pro sports back to a "normal life." It's something Gostkowski had to adjust to and an area he wants to be able to assist others with.[31:17] - The deeper dive of the transition is the locker room/team environment being replaced family life and other activities which can be fulfilling, albeit not on a competitive level. Stephen adds a bucket list item for himself.[35:49] - After investing so much in himself, Gostkowski was recognized in March...and just might be again in 2026...Website: www.nhlwraparound.comX: https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/NHL Wraparound Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/#NHLWraparound #NHLWraparound.com #ShortShifts #NYCentric #CelebritySeries #HallofFameEdition #StanleyCupdate #SummerCoolers #Smith'sPix #NeilSmith #VicMorren #PatrickHoffman #NHL #SummerCoolers #BobbyValentine #ChrisChelios #StephenGostkowski #NewEnglandPatriots #TedyBruschi #AdamVinatieri #BillBelichick #NorthCarolinaTarheels #TomBrady #WayneGretzky #MichaelJordan #LeBronJames #DerekJeter #KobeBryant #AlexanderMogilny #PatLafontaine #RobRay #DominikHasek #MikeVrabel #AlexeiKovalev #CraigWolanin #NationalAmericanPolishSportsHallofFame #ProFootballHallofFame #PatrickChung
This week in the Niche Cache we gather excitement for calm, relaxed, mellow Test cricket between New Zealand and West Indies. We dive deep into Blackcaps Test and ODI stuff as well as checking in with the Plunket Shield where a cluster of emerging batters scored runs in the first round. Then we debate about how effective Wellington Phoenix men have been to start the season, Auckland FC's positive results despite being far from their best and how Pia Vlok has emerged with Wellington Phoenix women. Joe Bell is on the cusp of a rare Flying Kiwis achievement, NZ Breakers can't win back to back games but they are winning a few games now and then we finish with a look at the new signings for NZ Warriors for the 2026 NRL season.(00:00) Blackcaps(46:42) Plunket Shield(01:01:12) Mindfulness(01:02:59) Wellington Phoenix men(01:33:01) Auckland FC(01:47:01) Wellington Phoenix women(01:55:40) Joe Bell(02:00:51) NZ Breakers(02:04:44) NZ WarriorsPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/elnichecacheNewsletter: https://thenichecache.substack.comHook us up with a brew: https://buymeacoffee.com/thenichecachethenichecache@gmail.com

Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open a new week on The Fan Morning Show with a Maple Leafs autopsy following back-to-back losses over the weekend. They begin by dissecting the team's issues in the crease, careless turnovers, and the stars offering bare-minimum brilliance, before asking what a full Toronto referendum would look like if Edmonton can wear a 9–1 loss. After the break, they consider the idea of Max Muncy to the Blue Jays, and unpack an “intentional balls” gambling claim, separating allegation from fact and precedent. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

Send us a textJoin Coach Damon Wilson on this episode of the Lax Goalie Rat Podcast as he chats with Ray Carnicelli, the passionate voice of Jacksonville University lacrosse and a former standout goalie from Cortland St. (now SUNY Cortland) (Class of 1990). Dive into Ray's lacrosse origins in the early 1980s, from backyard games to his first formal gig in ninth grade, and how he honed his skills without today's online resources—relying on mentors, observation, and sheer passion.Ray shares nostalgic tales of the sport's evolution: bucket helmets, muddy fields with unpredictable bounces, and the shift from "crazy guy or fat kid" goalies to today's athletic giants. Hear about his roundabout path to Cortland via junior college, backing up an All-American, and peaking post-college in Florida's competitive scene. As a broadcaster, Ray reveals his prep secrets—like detailed roster charts and high-energy calls—and why he celebrates saves from both sides.Packed with goalie wisdom: tips for backups (trust coaches, lead off-field, master clearing), developing vocal communication, the "head, ball, pocket" mantra for focus, and drills like rapid-fire saves with a zip-tied stick. Ray emphasizes compartmentalizing life stresses, staying passionate, and having fun—or finding another position!Whether you're a young goalie, coach, or fan, this episode blends storytelling, mindset advice, and broadcasting insights. Send us a textAs Mercyhurst University makes its ambitious leap into NCAA Division I men's lacrosse, one name to watch between the pipes is sophomore goalie Jaret Jawor.A native of Lockport, Illinois, Jawor played his high school lacrosse at Wheaton Academy, where he developed into a strong and athletic netminder. Now standing at 6-foot-3, Jawor brings size, reach, and a calming presence to the crease—traits that are quickly turning heads in his second collegiate season.Jawor made his college debut in 2024, seeing time in six games as a freshman. He made 21 saves while posting a 6.95 goals-against average and an impressive .618 save percentage, finishing the season with a 1–0 record. His early showings hinted at potential, and in 2025, that potential has started to materialize. This season, Jawor has stepped into a more active role, appearing in five games and making one start. Across 143 minutes of action, he's registered:38 saves36 goals against15.06 GAA.514 save percentage1–1 overall recordBut the numbers only tell part of the story. In NEC conference play, Jawor has stepped up under pressure, delivering a .571 save percentage across two appearances—highlighted by a standout 19-save performance against Robert Morris. Though the Lakers didn't secure the win, Jawor's poise and shot-stopping ability stood out in a hard-fought matchup. The 2025 season is a landmark one for Mercyhurst. After years of dominance at the Division II level, the Lakers have entered the Division I stage with a youthful roster, a new head coach in Trey Keeley, and something to prove. While postseason eligibility will have to wait, performances from players like Jawor have helped Mercyhurst secure key wins—most notably a dominant 22–6 victory over Hampton. As Mercyhurst builds its foundation in Division I, Jaret Jawor is emerging as a core piece of that future. With two years of eligibility left and a growing confidence in the cage, expect Jawor to continue evolving into one of the NEC's top goaltenders.Keep your eye on No. 12—he's just getting started. Enjoy my conversation with future star Jaret Jawor.Support the show
