In this episode, I am joined by my wonderful friend and fellow history nerd Alycia as we kick off the American Legend Series. A series of shows dedicated to looking into American Legends and seeing if we can find enough evidence to give the big red FACT stamp OR... send back to the story books with the Fiction stamp. Molly Pitcher was the name given to multiple women throughout the Revolutionary War. We are focusing on the two most prominent characters who may have earned this title. Both women found themselves on the battlefield, both saw their husbands go down, and both took up their spouse's positions and started fighting back. Join us for that story and more! CORRECTION: In the EP I state that I was in the room when the first women infantry officers were "commissioned" - that is not true. I was in the room when they were "branched" or selected to serve as Infantry officers. I did not edit or remove that statement for transparency. Thank you. Dick Mann, who passed away April 26th 2021, will always be remembered as one of, if not the, most versatile American racer. Revered by many of his peers, Dick won the Daytona 200 twice in consecutive years and was AMA Grand National Champion twice. He raced the dirt tracks, road races and competed successfully in the International Six Days Trial. We hope this podcast introduces Dick Mann to a world who never knew him, and brings back great memories to those that did.
Our guest this week is likely the most popular and most successful motorcycle drag racer of his era, if not of all time. He turned his racing accomplishments into one of the great businesses in the motorcycle aftermarket. The story of Terry Vance is one that fits into the AMA Hall of Fame as well as it does the Forbes Magazine list of successes. Huge thank you to Dunlop for supporting the American Legends Show. With the running costs involved in producing a weekly podcasts, we wouldn't be able to continue to put the shows out for free for all to watch & listen to, so their support is vitally important.
This American Legend is one of the most amazing and unique people in the motorcycle community, Champion Observed Trials rider of international repute and pre-eminent Hollywood Stunt Performer - working on over 200 movies and TV shows during her long career – meet the one and only Debbie Evans.

America's winningest road racer is actually French-Canadian. His 86 AMA road race wins sets himself in a world apart. But that is only the start of the story with this son of a legendary father. Miguel Duhamel, is not only a born motorcycle racer, he is a great story teller with a unique sense of humor.
A Three-time Grand National Flat track Champion with 25 mile wins in a six year career, the Stroh Miles Championship, Pro Athlete of the year twice, AMA Superbike Champion, and inspired so much confidence in Honda that they offered him a Grand Prix ride in 1989, with the expectations that he had what it would take to become a world Champion. Unfortunately, following this third race, there was a horrendous accident at Laguna Seca, on the cool down lap that almost cost him his life. We'd like to thank Bubba for his honesty and allowing us to publish this episode in full.

Jeff Bezos (Founder of Amazon) – Top 20 Quotes & Lessons We can all learn from some of the greatest entrepreneurs like Jeff Bezos, whether we are inventing the next Amazon.com, are bringing fresh and creative new ideas to our workplace or are simply trying to solve hard problems. While these rules and quotes are definitely relevant to our professional lives, many of these rules you may find can be equally and more importantly applied to our personal lives as well. For instance, trying new ways to approach a client may not be nearly as important or impactful to our lives as "inventing" new ways to reach through to our kids, spouse or other loved ones in our lives... Look for Henry Gindt's American Legends to tune into this series, which includes other great entrepreneurs like Elon Musk, political powerhouses like John F. Abraham Lincoln (US Senate Candidate): "A house divided against itself cannot stand" (June 16, 1858) (Springfield, Illinois) Thanks for tuning into Henry Gindt's American Legends series. On today's episode: Abraham Lincoln. Feel free to save and download the episode so you can come back and listen to it again later. Also, feel free to share it with friends, family or colleagues if it inspires you as it did me. Let's get started. Some of Abraham Lincoln's most famous words came in 1858, when he was running for the US Senate seat of Illinois against Stephen Douglas. Lincoln ultimately lost the US Senate race, but of course went on to become the 16th President of the United States two years later after winning the 1860 Presidential election against than Stephen Douglas in a rematch (as well as defeating 3 other candidates in the 4-way race). Talk about a comeback. The beautiful irony should not be lost as well that Barack Obama, an African American, late ran approximately 150 years later for the same US Senate seat and of course later also became President of Our United States. The following speech by Abraham Lincoln is oftentimes referred to as Lincoln's “House Divided” speech for arguably the most powerful words of the speech “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” which are actually direct quotes from Jesus, according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke of the New Testament of the Bible. This speech was delivered on June 16, 1858 to more than 1,000 convention delegates, who met in the Springfield, Illinois, statehouse for the Republican State Convention at the height of tension between Northern “free” states and the Southern “slave” states. During Lincoln's time in office, in order to keep the “Divided House” together, approximately 750,000 soldiers died during the American Civil War, which lasted for 4 bloody years and 27 days from April 12, 1861 to May 9, 1865, with casualties being roughly similar for both sides of the bloody conflict. Remember that America has been divided many times in our history, but we always emerge united and stronger than ever before. Let this speech from Abraham Lincoln help inspire us to reach out to our fellow American brothers and sisters of the opposite party and try to hear their points of view without automatically assuming they have no basis for their political views or beliefs. Abraham Lincoln: June 16, 1858 Springfield, Illinois -- Mr. President [of the Convention] and Gentlemen of the Convention, If we could first know where we are, and whither we are tending, we could then better judge what to do, and how to do it. We are now far into the fifth year, since a policy was initiated, with the avowed object, and confident promise, of putting an end to slavery agitation. Under the operation of that policy, that agitation has not only, not ceased, but has constantly augmented. In my opinion, it will not cease, until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed. "A house divided against itself cannot stand." ... --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/henry-gindt/support

Now on the MotoStarr video podcast, a great insight into America's Three-time AMA Superbike Champion (2006-7-8), and the 2009 World Superbike Champion, which he won in his rookie year with 11 out of 14 pole positions and winning 14 out of 28 of the Championship races. This is Ben Spies. There is much to learn about this Texan, and he has, as he did throughout racing career, has much to offer. As you'll hear in the episode, we'll soon be launching a second podcast show to this feed - the window on the world of motorcycling, where we interview guests from all corners of the globe and aspects of motorcycling. Click subscribe and the first episode of that will be in your podcast feeds very soon! Thank you
Episode 14 of the MotoStarr Video podcasts is with a man who has lived with the name of a motorcycle racing legend all of his life. He followed in his father's footsteps by also winning a 500cc World MotoGP Championship, making them the only father and son to ever have won a motorcycle World Title and the only pair to have won any major motorsports World Championships while both are still alive. This is Kenny Roberts Jr.
One of the best kept secrets in American Motorcycling is the World Endurance Championship that my guest for Episode 13 won in 1993. He was the first American to do so and he did it at a time when so few American's knew that there was a World Endurance series. In many respects for my guest, that might have been be the pinnacle of his racing success after learning his craft on the race tracks of America, but his career in motorcycling continued with American Honda and an opportunity to pass along his expertise to a new and different audience. Through his tenure with Honda, his successful racing career, and his time in the media with Cycle World, Doug Toland was able to live his dream, and occasionally wear a tie!
Scott Russell, perhaps equally known as “Mr. Daytona", is the quintessential American Racer. His successes are legend. World Superbike Champion, Suzuka 8 hour winner, AMA Superbike Champion, and AMA Supersport Champion, where he won every one of his races in his winning year and a record 23 victories in that class, and likely what he will forever be remembered for, 5 Daytona 200 victories, hence his moniker. Of course, he may also be remembered for his amazing helmet design. Enjoy!
'Flying' Fred Merkel was the first ever World Superbike Champion - he won it not only once, but twice in total, taking the title in 1988 and 1989. He's also a 3 times national Superbike champion over in the USA as well. He's a very laid back character and it was a total joy to hear some amazing stories from the 80s and 90s, told a few decades on from his home in San Francisco. Enjoy.
One of the most fascinating characters in Grand Prix racing history. John Kocinski is another World Champion few have heard from in the decades since he retired from the sport. This is one of the most interesting episodes you'll hear on the American Legends show, so sit back and enjoy. If you like what we're doing here, just another reminder that you can support the show through buying a book from motostarr.com, it really helps what we're doing here. Thank you!
Many riders can get podiums at GP level, fewer can win, fewer can win World Championships, even fewer can win multiple, then there are a special few who change the game altogether. Kenny Roberts Sr is one of those characters. Not just famous for who he was on the track but off it as well. This is another exclusive sit down interview with a giant of motorcycle racing. We give you, King Kenny Roberts.
Today's guest is a multi time World Champion who's aim is to have as much impact on the sport in his post riding career, than his did during his prime riding years. We all know the story of Wayne Rainey's racing career, his accident and many will know a lot about his role in MotoAmerica. This is a man, however, with hours and hours of untold stories to tell. We hope you enjoy the episode.
Sticking with not just a World Champion on the dirt, but another American great of Speedway. This is the story of double World Champion, Bruce Penhall, who not only was a demon on the race track but off it, was able to turn his hand to something totally different altogether - acting! Hope you enjoy the show.
The 4-time World Champion who is rarely heard of these days. Eddie Lawson is one of the giants of motorcycle racing, not just in the US but all around the World. A quiet character who did most of his talking on the track, but that takes nothing away from the stories this man has to tell. Hope you enjoy it! As always, if you'd like to support the podcast and the work that goes into the show, please consider buying a book from motostarr.com. It's the easiest way to keep the show on its feet! Thank you.
This is the story of a man who needs little introduction. One half of one of the most iconic rivalries in motorcycle racing history, a World Champion and a hero to a whole generation of racing fans. This is a full one hour of pure inspiration from the one and only, Kevin Schwantz.
Episode 113 - Don McLean!!! Don is truly a living legend. His music continues to be all over pop culture even to this day. His iconic song “American Pie” was listed at number 5 for “Songs of the Century” by the Recording Industry Association of America. In this episode Don discusses his rise to the top as well as his ambivalence towards success. He also tells me the story of Buddy Holly’s brother and his reaction to American Pie, as well as who he was referring to in the song when he mentions “the king.” 00:00 - Intro01:30 - Opener & Manager 03:15 - Mindset & Swimming 04:20 - Finding Music & The Weavers 06:48 - Beginning of Music Career 09:17 - Breaking Through Fear & Mission 10:12 - Finance Degree 11:25 - Pete Seeger and an Political Correctness 14:00 - The World Changing 18:30 - Overcoming Adversity of Tapestry Album 22:12 - American Pie Album & Artwork 24:52 - American Pie & Travis Holly (Buddy's Brother) 27:05 - Ambivalence Towards Success 30:15 - New Projects & Staying Busy 31:25 - YouTube Channel 32:26 - Roger Daltrey's Teen Cancer & Chemicals35:03 - Wrap Up Don McLean Website:https://donmclean.comTeen Cancer America Website:https://teencanceramerica.org/donate/Chuck Shute Website:http://chuckshute.comSupport the show (https://venmo.com/Chuck-Shute)
A second venture onto the dirt for the podcast but switching our attention from Motocross to Speedway. Greg Hancock is a 4 time Speedway World Champion and with over 200 Grands Prix to his name, he's not just the greatest Speedway rider to come out of America, he's up there with the greatest Speedway riders of all time.
A switch from the road to the dirt for this episode of the podcast as Peter is joined by America's first World Champion in Motocross - Brad Lackey. He took on the world at a time when few Americans even really knew what Motocross was and beat the very best! His story is a truly fascinating one. We hope you enjoy it.
America's FIRST Motorcycle Road Racing World Champion, Steve Baker. A legend of two wheels rarely heard from these days - at least in podcasts and interviews. Steve won the Formula 750 World Championship back in 1977, and was simultaneously runner up in the 500cc World Championship that year to a little known racer called Barry Sheene - perhaps you've heard of him before? In this episode, we chat through Steve's career, what pressure he was under during 1977, his iconic showdown in Talladega with Kel Carruthers, as well as his perspective on the modern era of racing. As always, if you'd like to support the podcast, please consider buying one of my books at motostarr.com. Thank you!
'Fast' Freddie Spencer. Where do you even start? Three times a World Champion in Grand Prix racing, two of those titles won in the same YEAR! The word 'legendary' is thrown around flippantly these days, but managing to win a 500cc World Championship and a 250cc World Championship in the same season really is a legendary feat, especially given such an achievement hasn't been replicated since, nor will it ever likely be repeated. What's more, many of Freddie Spencer's achievements beginning with "the youngest rider in history to..." have only JUST in the last decade been beaten, by none other than a certain Marc Marquez. These days, Freddie works as the chairman of the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel at all the races on the Grand Prix calendar, so in amongst his incredibly busy schedule with that, we're very fortunate he found the time to speak for a full hour on the MotoStarr Podcast to tell stories from his book, "Feel", as well as stories not in the book. If you enjoy the episode, please leave a review on your corresponding podcast platform, it'll really help. Thank you.

Julianna, despite speaking fluent Spanish, struggles throughout the tale of Indigenous Venezulan goddess Maria Lionza. Sabryna tells the very strange story of Chilean water and earth snakes. To commemorate the final episode of Season 1 we imbibe on a refreshing Jack Rose cocktail (https://www.beyondreproachpod.com/the-cocktails/2019/5/17/episode-10-the-jack-rose) , made with Applejack, America’s first spirit. We learn about the history of its distillation and how it links to Tux’s scandal. We depart slightly from our politically scandalous program to explore two folk heroes of American foundational mythology Johnny Appleseed and Davy Crockett, revealing how their real stories are more scandalous than the fairytale portrayals we learned about in grade school. Also covered: Stephanie’s lies, our summer break, brain damage lite, apple botany, the state of Franklin, sick burns and dolphins. Tux explores how Johnny Appleseed wasn’t the quirky selfless loner travelling around sprinkling appleseeds so that future settlers would have a wholesome food source when they arrived at the frontier. In reality he was much more of a shrewd real estate developer and a hippie mystic than a promoter of apple consumption. When I was in elementary school we were told the stories of the great American folk heroes that helped explore, settle, and exploit the American frontier. Some of you are old enough to remember the guys I’m talking about- Walt Disney made them famous back in the 1950’s. They actually showed us the cartoons in the classroom. There was Paul Bunyan with his Blue Ox, Babe, who conquered the north woods by chopping down and clearing out millions of acres of pine trees from Maine to Minnesota. And the steel driving man, John Henry, who could drive a rock drill with a sledgehammer faster than a steam powered machine, cutting tunnels through the Appalachian Mountains for the expanding railroads across the country. And Pecos Bill who was raised by coyotes on the high plains of Texas, used a rattlesnake as a lasso, once roped a tornado and rode it into submission, and scared all of the war paint of them Injuns, which made the painted desert. Yeah, kind of gave all of us in elementary school back then a warped sense of history, being that some of our greatest American heroes were completely made up bullshit. But, there was one of Disney’s American Legends that was an actual person; Johnny Appleseed. And according to Disney, he may have been the most IMPORTANT of all American frontiersmen. Johnny Appleseed Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=484AJlOnOnc According to old Walt’s cartoon, Johnny Appleseed’s story was told by an old settler who knew him well (more on that guy later). Armed with only a Bible, a bag of apple seeds, and a tin pot for a hat, Johnny was encouraged by his VERY own guardian angel to go west and plant orchard after orchard of apple trees from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania, over the Appalachian frontier into Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, so the settlers across this growing land could have tasty apples to make Apple Tarts, Apple Cobbler, Apple Sauce, Apple Butter, Apple Fritters, Apple Cake, and, on and on and on. We were all taught that only because of Johnny Appleseed and his dedication to spreading the apple across our nation, we have that most American of foods, Apple Pie. But, there was one thing that Disney didn’t really explain; John Chapman, (his real name) wasn’t growing apples for Apple Pie. He was growing them for cider. And not the kind of cider that we let the kids drink on Halloween. No, John Chapman was cultivating orchards and nurseries of apples for one purpose; hard cider, Early America’s favorite alcoholic beverage.
