Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Are you having some fun with this team right now? The White Sox have already passed their win total from 2024. They are playing with house money and it has been fun to watch. Sox should have swept the Angels but instead won their 3rd series since the All Star break. Many players are contributing and Luis Robert, Jr. will continue to be one of those players. Can the Sox win 63 games? 65 games? Let's hope the new core continues to grow and that it will force the organization's hand in the offseason. Thanks for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox
Greg is back from a month hiatus with a myriad of topics to discuss, which include the rise of Colson Montgomery, how Kyle Teel might fit in the outfield, where the current rotation fits as part of the future rotation, and the never ending question around why Luis Robert is still here.
BT and Sal delivered a heated analysis of the Mets and Yankees trade deadlines, with BT arguing that both teams "crushed it" by addressing their biggest needs without giving up top prospects. He believes the bullpen reinforcements for both clubs were massive upgrades that saved their seasons. Sal, however, countered that while the moves were "fine" and earned a solid "A," they ultimately amounted to the "bare minimum." He believes neither team went over the top to land a true game-changing player like Luis Robert or Sandy Alcantara, citing a reluctance to part with their top prospects as the reason they didn't get that "knockout punch" and earn an "A+."
BT and Sal went head-to-head on the Yankees and Mets' trade deadlines, with both agreeing that the teams improved but clashing on whether they did enough. Sal argues that while the teams filled critical needs—bullpen arms for both, a third baseman for the Yankees, and a center fielder for the Mets—they only did the "bare minimum." He believes the front offices, particularly Brian Cashman and David Stearns, were reluctant to give up top prospects for a "knockout punch" player like Steven Kwan or Luis Robert, preventing the teams from reaching an A+ grade. BT, however, is more satisfied, noting the immense value of acquiring multiple "nasty" bullpen arms for both teams without sacrificing their farm systems. He feels these moves give both the Yankees and Mets a legitimate chance to compete for a World Series, and he believes the reluctance to trade a prospect like Spencer Jones for a pitcher with a 6.50 ERA (referencing a hypothetical trade for Sandy Alcantara) was a smart move. The conversation also touched on Michael Cole's visit to the studio to promote SummerSlam, revealing his passion as a lifelong Mets fan and his insights into the business of wrestling.
Hour 4: Ike, Spike and Fritz react to a report from Bob Nightengale who says the White Sox were "begging" the Phillies to take Luis Robert. Plus, the Top 5 at 5 and the Text Line.
Today on Hooked on Sports:John reacts to the biggest stories and movements that transpired during the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline, including the Padres, Mets, Yankees going for deep bullpens, the Phillies adding a pure fireballer in Jhoan Duran, the Mariners adding two big bats to their lineup, the Minnesota Twins' clearance sale, the Astros surprisingly getting Carlos Correa back from the Twins, the Giants sudden pivot from buyers to sellers, the White Sox holding onto Luis Robert, Jr., and more.
In this segment, BT and Sal dissect the recent MLB trade deadline, expressing their disappointment that neither the Mets nor the Yankees made a "knockout punch" trade for a big bat or ace pitcher. While acknowledging both teams added valuable pieces, particularly in the bullpen, they lament the absence of a truly impactful, "over the top" acquisition like Luis Robert, Steven Kwan, or Sandy Alcantara, questioning if playing it safe will ultimately hinder their World Series aspirations
Francisco Rojas is back with a new episode of Phillies Today. On this episode, it's all things related to the trade deadline for the Fightins. The Phillis suffered a rough loss to the Chicago White Sox yesterday in a series they were expected to sweep. But Luis Robert's performance could be seen as a positive if the Phillies try to make a move for the White Sox outfielder in the next 2 days. Was Robert auditioning to be a Philly and do you even want the Phillies to trade for him?
The New York Mets are facing a fiery trade deadline, with Mark Vientos at the heart of the speculation. Despite his recent grand slam and offensive potential, the Mets are reportedly open to moving Vientos, with the White Sox eyeing him in a potential deal for Luis Robert. This difficult decision stems from the Mets' abundance of infielders and their need for a true center fielder to complete their championship puzzle. While Vientos can carry a team offensively, his defensive deficiencies and inconsistent effort raise questions, making him a prime candidate to be traded as the Mets look to acquire pieces that fit their immediate winning agenda.
Bob Nightengale says that the Phillies are not as high on Luis Robert as some might think. The Phillies have been linked to Robert ahead of the trade deadline. Robert has talent, but has not been able to put it all together. Joe DeCamara rephrases the question about the Eagles stadium having a dome. Rather than asking if it is something you'd want, he asks if it will happen in the next 10 years. Joe DeCamara is staunchly against the Eagles having a domed stadium.
