Aug. 30, 2014. Valerie Miles, founding co-editor of Granta en español, will share some of the anecdotes and stories that led to the publication of her unprecedented book, "A Thousand Forests in One Acorn." Composed over many years of conversations and literary adventures throughout the Spanish speaking world, the book captures the voices of leading writers as they reflect on the particular work they consider closest to their heart, or that best expresses their driving creative obsession, in answer to the question; "What do you consider your best pages?" In conversation with Manuel Roig-Franzia, Washington Post writer, she will also read from a few of their selections, bringing their voices and work to life; Nobel prize winning author Mario Vargas Llosa, or Carlos Fuentes, Javier Marías, Ana María Matute, and Enrique Vila Matas, among many others. The book serves as a privileged invitation into the private quiet of these great writer's studies, bringing a breathtaking panorama of the moods, colors, and themes that compel the brightest minds in contemporary Spanish language literature today.
