In this third episode of Season 7, we hear from Tim Burnette, Founder/Core Curator of Way Collective. Tim is a dreamer, philosopher, and theologian. He has spent years reflecting on the evolving Christian faith, and earned his doctorate from Claremont School of Theology, where he studied process metaphysics, philosophy and theology, and compassion. He currently curates Way Collective, which is a community of shared practices and values. Where they believe that a way of living is at the heart of the Christian wisdom path. whereas much of religion is complicit in systems of exclusion and oppression, they gather around practices and values that lead us to life And they see that these practices and values can be shared by people from diverse traditions, religious paths, and non-religious philosophies. “You cannot believe yourself out of belonging here.”Tim Burnette founded a spiritual community that is hard to define. It's not quite church - not everyone is Christian - but they do gather on Sunday mornings. They don't even have a shared set of beliefs, only a shared set of values. Their goal is to be a contemplative community in action. But what does that look like, when everyone believes differently? When everyone is at different stages of spiritual growth? How do you make sure everyone belongs?Join us on the Spiritual Wanderlust podcast to explore what it might look like to have an expansive, inclusive community centered in the contemplative.Tim Burnette is a writer, philosopher, teacher, and founder of the Way Collective. He believes liberation is possible when we approach reality in a holistic, relational, embodied, contemplative way. He agrees with Vonnegut that: "You can see all kinds of things from the edge that you can't see from the center."Learn more about what he's up to at www.waycollective.org.

For this episode of On Carrying a Concern we are excited to welcome three guests from different parts of the Protestant Christian world. We thought it would be interesting to hear from other Christians, who are not Quakers, what they hear in the stories that Friends tell about leadings and service in the Friends’ tradition. Show notes with questions for discussion, resources mentioned in the episode, and a transcript are all available here. Tuhina Rasche calls herself a “Hudu.” Growing up Hindu in Colorado she was converted to Christianity during and after college. Currently she is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), though she serves an African Methodist Episcopal church on the team at University AME Zion Church in Palo Alto California. Her website is here: https://www.tuhinavrasche.com/ Tamisha Tyler is a PhD student at Fuller Theological Seminary in Southern California. She was born and raised in Long Beach, CA but currently resides in Pasadena. Her interests include engaging the intersection of theology, ethics and culture through the work of Octavia Butler. She co-hosts a podcast entitled Why We’re Friends. She is an activist in the #SeminaryWhileBlack #ToxicFuller movement addressing the ways in which predominantly white seminaries (like Fuller) are not safe places for black students (search the above hashtags for more info or see the resources below). Tamisha’s website is here: https://www.tamishatyler.com/ T.D. (Tim) Burnette is the founder and co-curator of the Way Collective, a spiritual community of shared practices and values in the Jesus way in Santa Barbara, CA. He is a pastor in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination. He hosts a podcast called the Theopoetics Podcast. He's also a partner, father, poet, and musician who agrees with Vonnegut that: "You can see all kinds of things from the edge that you can’t see from the center." Although, sometimes it's nice to be centered out on the edge as well. The website for The Way Collective and Tim are here: https://www.waycollective.org/

Tripp was in Santa Barbara where the Way Collective sponsored the Believing Skepticast at the phenomenal Third Window Brewing Co. Tripp and Tim talk about what is happening with religion in the 21st century and navigating the tricky waters of faith and doubt. Whereas in the past, atheists and believers from separate camps would debate in the public sphere, today we often see hints of both schools of thought within the same person! Plus, as religion (especially Christianity) is changing all over the place, we need more conversations like this that help us stay tuned-in and promote more compassion! Sometimes it's easiest to give in to the division we see all over the place, but conversations about faith and doubt can help us see a different way to be together: one of unity in a fragmented world! That's why a new movement is beginning in Santa Barbara to develop a community for those wanting to have fresh and transformative conversations about deep living for the common good. This movement is called the Way Collective, and emphasizes practices and values that create more adventure, wholeness, beauty, and sustainability for all. The Way Collective will be hosting friend of the podcast Peter Rollins for a night of pints and parables on Friday, May 26th. If you're in the Santa Barbara area and want to be confronted with probing parables revealing what lies beneath the surface, you won't want to miss this! In this intimate event, Pete will be offering some of his favorite parables along with some reflections and conversation. You can get tickets here.
